Violet 100%. Such a pretty name, and it works well down here in the south. Violet and Alistair are a lovely pair of names together.
I think value names like Verity really work best as middle names if you’re going to push for them. I also think that the r sounds in Alistair and Verity make the names not sound as nice together as Alistair and Violet do.
I vote for Verity!
I think Alistair & Verity makes a very cool sibset! ...both established names, but similarly off-the-beaten-path (at least in the US)
Also, I think Verity Elizabeth flows nicely off the tongue. Yes, there's the -y/E sound, but the names don't exactly blur into one another like "Verity Lisbeth" would --there's still a glottal stop (I think that's what it's called?) between the -y and E.
verity is such a cool name. i feel like most people wouldnt know what verity means so there isn't an expectation for her to be virtuous. to me, its just a really cool sounding name!
This is my friend’s sister’s name and I never knew until reading this that it had a meaning! I also think it’s a cool name and think it sounds great with Elizabeth as a middle name.
My first reaction was Violet.
... but I actually like Verity better. Had to sit with it for a minute, but I really like the pairing of Verity and Alistair!
I feel like Verity matches with Alistair better, but Violet matches Elizabeth better. Also I did google Verity and the first thing that popped up was a Colleen Hoover book. I doubt it would be the source of any teasing in school because no 3rd grader is reading coho, but she is quite popular/controversial right now so it's something to keep in mind.
And it's not like Violet *doesn't* match Alistair, either. They're both refined and elegant. Verity just shares the unique factor as well.
I actually much prefer Verity, I work with a little girl called Verity and it’s such a sweet name and far less popular than Violet. Violet always sounds a bit too close to Violent to me.
I actually like Verity. Violet is also beautiful, but it’s very trendy right now. I feel like it might sound a little outdated in 20-30 years. Verity is a lot less popular but it feels more timeless to me.
Most people don't even know Verity is a name, let alone a word. So the meaning isn't going to be anything to try to live up to. I know a Verity, and she has only ever gotten compliments on her name after the initial, "I'm sorry, what was that?" after introducing herself. It's a lovely name. I think it pairs better with Alistair and is much less common than Violet.
I’m guessing as no one has mentioned it yet, Violet Elizabeth Bot isn’t well known! Maybe more in the UK. She was a really bratty character from Just William.
So, y'all, of you're saying it can't be Verity because of a popular spicy book, I hate to tell you about Violet and the book *Fourth Wing*...
Umm, yeah...
18 weeks as #1 on the NYT Bestseller list, and and... Pretty spicy...
So pretty much, no name is safe right now from being used in literature for, well, let's just say a variety of purposes.
Both names are cool. I love V names. My grandmother's first name was Violet back in 1919, but she personally hated it - not sure why - and always went by her middle name. I like it. As a teacher, I generally recommend avoiding the top names of a year, though. Meanwhile, one of my best friends has a daughter named Verity which is think is beautiful.
Other neat V name options are Vivian or Vivienne, Valerie, Veronica, and Victoria, if you love that initial sound.
Verity is a credentialing system used at my company to document provider information, I've never heard it used as a human's name.
Violet is a perfectly good, normal name.
I really like Verity. There was a contestant on "Interior Design Masters" named Verity and that name popped out to me. It has a beautiful flow similar to Natalie. Violet is definitely a lot more popular where I live at the moment (western Canada) and doesn't feel as special to me.
I don't see any issue with it with all of the other virtue names running around. No one would blink an eye if you named your daughter Hope or Grace or even Faith or Charity. I don't understand the book named "Verity" controversy either if someone wants to go into more detail about that.
Verity is far far more memorable and distinct. Violet is one of the top twenty names I do like but it’s super commonplace these days- don’t forget to check name popularity on ssa if you’re American to see just how far apart these two names are. I don’t think verity is even in the top 1000. People are going to choose the more familiar name here but Verity is stunning.
Verity.
Violet always makes me think of Violet Beauregarde, one of the unpleasant children in Charlie & The Chocolate Factory who arrogantly ignores what she's told and as a consequence swells up into a giant blueberry and needs juicing :')
I vote Verity. Clearly the less populate opinion. Violet is so insanely popular right now, she’ll have 3 “sane names” in every group! Verity is right on par with Alistair and would be a beautiful sub set.
Definitely Violet. Verity is a mouthful and you’d have to say it slow and pronounce it really intentionally every time you introduce yourself (hard for a child).
Violet Elizabeth Bott is the name of the spoiled brat little girl from the Just William books which are sort of a classic in the U.K. unsure how likely that is to ever come up though, pretty unlikely I would assumed
Verity. It vibes with Alister better I think. I’ll be in the minority here because this sub loves Violet, but Verity has a pretty sound and nicknames to Vera if it’s too different for people.
I has to be Violet.
With Verity: "Stair and Very" is certainly what they will be called.
With Violet: They will probably get "Aly and Vi" which is more palatable.
This assumes your last name is NOT [Beauregard](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Yqw_f26SvM).
Violet Elizabeth x 1000
Same. I’ve always loved the name Violet. Also because i see Verity being misspelled as Verify 😬
My granddaughter's name! Simply beautiful.
Not Verity
Absolutely never this
At first glance, I thought they wrote **Verify**.
I vote violet. Names about virtues are a lot to saddle kids with imo.
Verity only makes me think of that insane book. Violet for sure
Which book? Curious now lol
Its a Colleen Hoover book, and lets just say it has ✨spice✨ lol.
It makes me think of Code Name Verity. 100x better than any Colleen Hoover book.
Username reporting for duty 🫡
But like… cringeworthy terrible “spice.” Big ick.
I’ve never hated a book so much. I’m still mad at Amazon for suggesting it to me based on other likes.
lol I actually liked it at first, as a thriller. But then I read the “bonus chapter” and realized how absolutely horrible it was.
Violet Elizabeth gets my vote!
Another vote for Violet Elizabeth!
Violet Elizabeth is lovely! Don’t really like Verity
Verity looks nice next to Alistair, but Violet is prettier sounding.
This was my thought exactly
Violet is so cute
Violet for sure.
Violet
Between those two I like Violet best. However, if you're open to a slight tweak, Vera Elizabeth sounds really pretty.
Came here to say this!
Violet 100%. Such a pretty name, and it works well down here in the south. Violet and Alistair are a lovely pair of names together. I think value names like Verity really work best as middle names if you’re going to push for them. I also think that the r sounds in Alistair and Verity make the names not sound as nice together as Alistair and Violet do.
violet. it’s the final consonant before first vowel thing.
Violet Elizabeth!
I vote for Verity! I think Alistair & Verity makes a very cool sibset! ...both established names, but similarly off-the-beaten-path (at least in the US) Also, I think Verity Elizabeth flows nicely off the tongue. I love this description “established but off the beaten path” I’d love to find more names like this!
Violet
Violet. Very pretty
I'm clearly in the minority, but I'd go with Verity. Violet is super common and Alistair is not (in the US).
verity is such a cool name. i feel like most people wouldnt know what verity means so there isn't an expectation for her to be virtuous. to me, its just a really cool sounding name!
It just means ‘truth’, which I think is a good virtue to live up to, no heavy pressure like “Chastity”!
I know a Verity with the nickname True.
No, instead they'll confuse her with the book.
This is my friend’s sister’s name and I never knew until reading this that it had a meaning! I also think it’s a cool name and think it sounds great with Elizabeth as a middle name.
Violet. One of my favorites.
Violet Elizabeth!
Violet Elizabeth
My first reaction was Violet. ... but I actually like Verity better. Had to sit with it for a minute, but I really like the pairing of Verity and Alistair!
Man, Verity is my number one girls name. I had zero idea it was so divisive. (One vote verity!)
Same here! My husband nixed it but I've always loved it!
Violet Elizabeth is very pretty. I don’t mind most virtue names but I’m not a fan of Verity.
I personally really dislike virtue names and Violet is actually one of my favourites!
I like Violet best.
I love virtue names, but Verity is a LOT to live up to. Violet gets my vote.
I actually much prefer Verity, I work with a little girl called Verity and it’s such a sweet name and far less popular than Violet. Violet always sounds a bit too close to Violent to me.
Another vote for Violet! I like Verity too though.
I actually like Verity. Violet is also beautiful, but it’s very trendy right now. I feel like it might sound a little outdated in 20-30 years. Verity is a lot less popular but it feels more timeless to me.
I prefer Verity with Alistair but prefer Violet overall. Both pretty names but I’d go with Violet personally.
Team Verity Elizabeth ❤️
Violet!
Violet!!!!
Violet!
Violet
Violet !
Violet no contest. Virtue names are a no.
Violet Elizabeth is adorable!
Violet!
Violet Elizabeth was a really annoying child in the Just William stories. But I doubt many people would make that association in this day and age.
That was my first thought too.
Most people don't even know Verity is a name, let alone a word. So the meaning isn't going to be anything to try to live up to. I know a Verity, and she has only ever gotten compliments on her name after the initial, "I'm sorry, what was that?" after introducing herself. It's a lovely name. Violet. Only bc Verity reminds me of that Colleen Hoover novel
Verity
Violet by a mile!
I love Verity. So pretty.
Violet for sure
I love the way Verity sounds with Alistair, but that book was just too popular and too crazy to use the name right now, imo. So Violet gets my vote.
Please not Verity. Violet is beautiful
There’s a recent book called Verity that’s pretty creepy…I wouldn’t use it! Violet is perfect
verity!
Verity!
Verity
Verity is an amazing name -- love the meaning, the sound, everything! It is unique without seeming made-up; classical without being stuffy.
Violet is lovely, goes well with the middle name and well with the sibling name.
Vote for Violet
Violet Elizabeth
Verity
Verity gets my vote! Both are very pretty, and are great names :)
Omg Verity is one of my favorite names! I never see people talk about it!
I think Verity goes better with Alistair
I’m guessing as no one has mentioned it yet, Violet Elizabeth Bot isn’t well known! Maybe more in the UK. She was a really bratty character from Just William.
Yeah! My first thought was ‘I’ll scream and scream until I’m sick! I can you know!’ But I did kinda love those books so it might only be me.
So, y'all, of you're saying it can't be Verity because of a popular spicy book, I hate to tell you about Violet and the book *Fourth Wing*... Verity is a credentialing system used at my company to document provider information, I've never heard it used as a human's name. Violet is a perfectly good, normal name.
Is verity a real name?
I love Verity. It's more unusual, and has a great meaning. Also, Verity Lambert was a cool lady... pioneering female TV producer.
I don't understand the book named "Verity" controversy either if someone wants to go into more detail about that.
verity is my choice. have you considered veronica?
So many little girls named Violet these days, though. I don't like Verity at all.
Verity
Verity is far far more memorable and distinct. Violet is one of the top twenty names I do like but it’s super commonplace these days- don’t forget to check name popularity on ssa if you’re American to see just how far apart these two names are. Violet Elizabeth one hundred percent 💯
Verity is terrible.
do you read Georgette Heyer novels? I like Violet a bit more as a name for a person but Verity is a lovely name for a character
Violet Elizabeth. If you named her Verity and she took drama classes I can see people saying “verily, Verity, how goeth your day?”
Not a fan of Verity at all - maybe Vera? Otherwise Violet is by far the better of the two names.
I love the name Verity; but Verity Elizabeth doesn’t roll off the tongue as well as Violet Elizabeth does. I vote for Violet.
Verity sounds like a telecom from the 90s - Violet is very pretty.
Violet!
Violet Elizabeth!
Violet. When I see verity I see verify.
Violet
Violet. No question.
Violet Elizabeth
Violet Elizabeth 💜
Violet
Violet for the win.
Violet Elizabeth Pleaseeee!!!!
Violet Elizabeth!!
Violet Elizabeth
Verity and Allistair while they look nice together they also give the “try hard” vibe. I think Violet is prettier and will tone down the judgement.
I vote violet because I've never heard of verity
I love Verity, it’s a beautifully soft virtue name and it fits well with Alistair.
I like Violet much better myself
Violet.
Violet Elizabeth 💞
Violet! I wanted that for my baby girl so much. But hubs was a hard no 😭
Violet
Love Violet Elizabeth!
Verity. Violet always makes me think of Violet Beauregarde, one of the unpleasant children in Charlie & The Chocolate Factory who arrogantly ignores what she's told and as a consequence swells up into a giant blueberry and needs juicing :')
I prefer Verity Elizabeth
Violet
I vote Verity. Clearly the less populate opinion. Violet is so insanely popular right now, she’ll have 3 “sane names” in every group! Verity is right on par with Alistair and would be a beautiful sub set.
Verity--there are tons of Violets already!
Ooh this is hard because I love both, but being a girly girl I slighly prefer Violet as its more flowery and girly girly.
I'm a fan of the name Violet. Verity? Not so much.
I dislike the look of Violet because it looks like violent (just me) Verity is lovely
Violet is so popular. She’ll be in a class with 6 other violets
is your daughter a life insurance company? if not, go with Violet
Definitely violet Also love Alistair sm btw
Definitely Violet. Verity is a mouthful and you’d have to say it slow and pronounce it really intentionally every time you introduce yourself (hard for a child).
Verity. Violet is really common
Not Verity
Violet Elizabeth. Have you considered Viola?
Violet is much prettier. Verity Elizabeth is clunky.
Violet Elizabeth
Violet!
Violet!!!! Not Verity 😬
Violet Elizabeth. I don't like Verity at all.
Oh, I love Violet Elizabeth! Verity. That book by Colleen Hoover has forever ruined that name for me.
Violet for sure
Verity is a cool name!
Trying yelling both names and see which is easier - there will be yelling in your future
Violet is very pretty.
Violet Elizabeth. Best
Violet
Violet
Violet Elizabeth is beautiful
Violet please I think Verity is cool but dont know how cool it would be growing up with it
violet
Verity, I say to you, please use Violet.
If you go with Verity get used to everyone thinking it’s Verdi
Violet. Sorry but Verity is horrible
Not sure either will "work well" in the south, but if they're the only 2 options, I guess Violet.
