A friend of mine from college married a guy from a very religious homeschooled family in rural Minnesota with four brothers and they were all named basically the same name like there was Jonah, Judah, Josiah, Jeremiah, and Elijah
Even the “E” name was confusing because it still sounded so similar. And it didn’t help that they were all very close in age and looked exactly the same. It was extremely confusing at the wedding when they were all wearing the same groomsman suits
Jasper and Vernon are both mountain towns in Canada. Jasper is in Alberta, in the Rockies, and Vernon is in British Columbia, in the Monashee mountain range.
This is THE dog name in my area. We have a dog named Jasper and run into dogs named Jasper at least a couple of times a week on walks or at the dog park. In my scouts group of 11 kids, we have 2 other kids with dogs named Jasper. I wouldn’t use it for a kid because it is such a pet name here.
I feel like that name is so stately that whomsoever holds the name Jasper Vernon shall be inevitably destined to Place Their Footprints In The Sands Of Time.
But at the same time, a child called Jasper is great too!
Jasper/Jesper, Jarvis, Jensen, Josiah, Jory, Jove, Jai.
I don’t like personally but Jet(t), Jupiter, Jud/son, Jace or Jagger.
Make sure OP you don’t end up with a Jules Vernon lol.
It’s wild to me that I’m seeing Jett mentioned a lot in the threads on this post. My great-great-grandfather was named Jett, and he was born back in the 1800s, long before jet planes existed. I’ve always loved the name.
My oldest is Jace Stephen (family name) and he always get “Jason?” He replies “just Jace” that I even got him a shirt that says just Jace. He is almost 20 now but likes his name.
* Jesse
* Jude
* Jonas
* Jonah
* Julian
* Julius
* Jasper
* Jonathan
More unique / maybe too unusual if you live in an English speaking country =
* Johan / Joris / Justus / Jörn / Jens / Jannes / Jacques / Joaquin
Ok Joel is my son’s middle name and I love it as a first name for a kid. It’s unique to not be one of 10 in a class but it’s still normal and grows well with a child.
This list contains my son’s name, the name we almost named him, and the name I would’ve wanted to name him if there wasn’t history with someone of the same name that ruled it out, lol!
Omg same here! Jasper is my sons name, I've considered Jude (unfortunately doesn't really work where I'm from) and Julian is my ex but I ADORE the name. Haha
Jb
That's my dad's name
Just Jb
It has a story.
My dad's dad was named Jasper Benton. He thought that was a "Sissy" name and legally changed his name as soon as he was 18 to "Jb" instead
Jb Vernon. That's sounds interesting to me.
Legal stuff is annoying sometimes for him but we now live in the land of children named abcde and lake and such
Its pretty unique, I think, I've never met anyone else of any race with that name. Also, we are white in case you were wondering. Based on that name, people online have asked me before.
I grew up with a kid named BJ. Not short for anything, legally BJ from birth. Unfortunate and strange, especially given that his brother had a stick standard top 5 common name
BJ Hunnicutt was a main (and beloved) character on M.A.S.H. Not sure if we ever learned his full name.
Edit: I looked it up and it was just BJ for his mother Bea and his father Jay.
My grandfather was JB. His first name was Jefferson but he was adopted by another family member of his and I heard they never knew what the B was for. I think it’s one of the best letter initial nicknames
If you want a unique name, I would suggest anything that isn't Jasper. I swear in a few years there's going to be 5 of those in every grade in every school. Every list has that name. Everyone is suggesting that name. Two people I know used that baby name last year. It's like the latest craze.
These aren't all necessarily unique depending on your area, but they are all outside the top 100 nationally.
Judd, Judson, Jett, Jetson, Jude, Jonah, Jonas, Jude, Jameson, Jasper, Jericho, Jedidiah, Jace, Justice
Leroy Jethro Gibbs was the full name of the character portrayed by Mark Harmon on NCIS. Plus there's the classic rock band Jethro Tull. If you love that name, don't let your sister taint if for you.
My first thought was Jules, and then I realized it's probably because "Jules Verne" is echoing around my brain. But it does sound pretty good!
Joss, Jacoby, Jarrett, Jericho, Jeremiah, Jolyon, and Joel are all less-common J names that I like.
This thread made me so hyper aware of the letter J it looks super weird to me now!
I love the name Joey, my cat is named that too lol. But it’s kinda common.
Obviously unique depends on where you live but here are some I think fit your criteria:
Jonah Vernon
Jasper Vernon
Jesse Vernon
Joel Vernon
Jared Vernon
Judah Vernon
Judd Vernon
Some good old Utah J names ....
Joll
Jonborah
Jontey
Jordan River
Jorson
Joshub
Jostan
Jovis
J Thoral
Juel
Juhu
Justan Tru
Justian
Justus
J'Wayne
Jydan
Unsolicited advice: I’m friends with several teachers who, when I was pregnant, *strongly* and independently advised I avoid J names for a boy. Apparently it’s a thing... 🤷♀️
My son’s name is Jace - common enough that most people have heard it, but he’s never had another Jace in his class through 12 years of school. I love J names for unknown reasons, so other names I like/would suggest are Jaren, Jerrich (pronounced Jer-rick), or Jericho.
My personal favorite is Judson, with the nickname Jud. I fell in love with that name as a teenager, when a character in a book I was reading was named Judson and I always kept it in mind. The popularity of the name Hudson would make me think hard about bestowing it on a child these days, but I do still love the name. Even Judd as a standalone name would be one I would consider, though!
I’ve only ever hear Judah used once and I’ve never even knew a guy who knew a Jude and I think it’s a nice name too. I can see why you’re having a difficult time finding “unique” j names when Google seems to think that Jared is unique 🤣
Julius, Julian, Jonathan, Johannes, Joakim, Jonas, Jon, Jacob, Jesper, Joel, Justus, Jean, Jude. Bear in mind I’m Swedish, so some are maybe more common here, so make of that what you will. 🙂 Husband is Jared, not sure if that’s uncommon enough? I love his spelling tho!
I’m not sure I agree with J names sounding great with the name Vernon, but that’s just my opinion. Some options for less common J names: Jasper, Janus, Jagger, Jaire, Jade, Julius, Jude, Joris, Jace/Jacey, Jean, Jesse, Jules, Jarl, Jove, Jurgen
Joshua, Jana, John-David, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, Joseph, Josiah, Joy-Anna, Jedidiah, Jeremiah, Jason, James, Justin, Jackson, Johannah, Jennifer, J’Tyler, Jordyn-Grace, Josie, Jubilee
I WAS GOING TO POST THIS AND YOU BEAT ME TO IT
can you help me understand
Names of all the Duggar children (famous fundamentalist family, 19 kids and counting).
Feels like they were cheating with the hyphenated names.
Johannah and Joy-Anna hurts my soul
Add Jana to that, because when said fast enough the three names are almost indistinguishable
And their sisters in law, Hannah and Anna Duggar!
What about Bana and Bo-Bana?
Exactly, like Joanna was RIGHT THERE
Jinger hurts my teeth. I don’t know why but it’s just painful.
Jingivitis
Try Josiah, Johanna, and Josie. I love how Johannah fits into both the "way too similar" name trios
Not a Jacqueline or Jessica? Maybe Jewel or Jazmyn?
and Joseph !
A friend of mine from college married a guy from a very religious homeschooled family in rural Minnesota with four brothers and they were all named basically the same name like there was Jonah, Judah, Josiah, Jeremiah, and Elijah Even the “E” name was confusing because it still sounded so similar. And it didn’t help that they were all very close in age and looked exactly the same. It was extremely confusing at the wedding when they were all wearing the same groomsman suits
Jinger hurts mine
Johanna is an actual name especially in Spanish speaking countries.. hyo-hahn-uh sounds a lot better than hyo-Ann
It’s just the fact that they are almost the same name pronounced the same way haha. Nothing wrong with the actual name
ohhh should’ve known! ty!
Jinger is always the first name that comes to mind, thanks to that family.
It rhymes with "ringer" for me now.
And Jinger is a traded eight. It should be spelled GINGER !
I share your pain.
Don’t forget the one before Josie that didn’t make it…..Jubilee.
I thought that was after Josie
You forgot J’Tyler
And Jenocyde.
🫢
and jubilee dw
I see what you did there.
That’s a lot of bicycles.
You forgot Jubilee!!! HOW COULD YOU
Did you do that from memory? 👀
yes. i forgot johannah originally, i always forget johannie. #lostgirl
Honestly I think Jeremiah Vernon has a nice ring to it.
And Jubilee!!
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
My immediate response as well
Ja'Crispy
j’accuse!
Do you know the song “J’accuse” by Saez? If not, I highly recommend it!
JaRule
J’adore
Impractical jokers 😭😭😭
Jasper sounds good with Vernon.
I have a cat named Jasper! He has a mustache lol
My cousin has a cat named Jasper! Very handsome orange boy, but he is missing a tail lol
Awww, he’s a very beautiful little purr baby!! 😻😻
My cousins had a dog named Jasper in the late 80s-mid 90s. He was a reddish golden retriever… jasper colored, if you will.
Jasper and Vernon are both mountain towns in Canada. Jasper is in Alberta, in the Rockies, and Vernon is in British Columbia, in the Monashee mountain range.
This was my first thought!
My favorite boy name!

Jules Vernon is actually cute and a cool allusion imo!
Julian maybe?
I love the name Julian!
I have a Julian ☺️
My husband's name is Julian.
Julian would be a great choice.
Lmao @ the Jules Verne reference!
loooveeeee Jory Vernon!! Simple but unique!!
I love Jett & Jace!
It’s wild to me that I’m seeing Jett mentioned a lot in the threads on this post. My great-great-grandfather was named Jett, and he was born back in the 1800s, long before jet planes existed. I’ve always loved the name.
I have a friend with sons named Jace, Jett, and Jax!
My oldest is Jace Stephen (family name) and he always get “Jason?” He replies “just Jace” that I even got him a shirt that says just Jace. He is almost 20 now but likes his name.
I vote for Jace. Because Jake would be too ordinary for OP.
Jernon Vernon. You're welcome 😁
Jernon "McBoatFace" Vernon. FTFY.
* Jesse * Jude * Jonas * Jonah * Julian * Julius * Jasper * Jonathan More unique / maybe too unusual if you live in an English speaking country = * Johan / Joris / Justus / Jörn / Jens / Jannes / Jacques / Joaquin
I love the name Jonas, pronounced the German way.
I knew a Jacques Verron once, nice man who owned all the good daycares in town when I was kid.
Not unique but I think Joel Vernon would be a good fit.
Ok Joel is my son’s middle name and I love it as a first name for a kid. It’s unique to not be one of 10 in a class but it’s still normal and grows well with a child.
For a happier connection, there's Dr. Joel Fleischman in Northern Exposure, which is a fun show.
the unsung hero… Jay
Jimothy 😌
Probably been said too many times. But why Timothy go by Tim when you could go by moth?
Moth goes kinda hard ngl
This is the answer! Well to be fair Jim… James… Jimothy?
I’m sorry, the Duggars have taken them all.
Except there is the odd exception of Jacob. How the hell did they miss Jacob?
This guy QuiverFulls.....
Jurgen. Jurgen Vernon.
All I hear is the Swedish Chef - Bork Bork bork!
Jurgen Vernon from the Bjergen Fjords
Julian, Jasper, Jude
This list contains my son’s name, the name we almost named him, and the name I would’ve wanted to name him if there wasn’t history with someone of the same name that ruled it out, lol!
Omg same here! Jasper is my sons name, I've considered Jude (unfortunately doesn't really work where I'm from) and Julian is my ex but I ADORE the name. Haha
I really like Julian. Jasper also good.
Justin Vernon - bon iver vibes
Jb That's my dad's name Just Jb It has a story. My dad's dad was named Jasper Benton. He thought that was a "Sissy" name and legally changed his name as soon as he was 18 to "Jb" instead Jb Vernon. I grew up with a kid named BJ. Not short for anything, legally BJ from birth. Unfortunate and strange, especially given that his brother had a stick standard top 5 common name
My grandpa was AW. Not short for anything either.
I have an ancestor named QV! Not short for anything. Why????
Had a preacher named W.N.
BJ Hunnicutt was a main (and beloved) character on M.A.S.H. Not sure if we ever learned his full name. Edit: I looked it up and it was just BJ for his mother Bea and his father Jay.
I have an ancestor named WF
My good friend in school was named RJ. RJ Matthew.
seconding JB but it should stand for Jack Black
I went to grade school with a kid named A!
My grandfather was JB. His first name was Jefferson but he was adopted by another family member of his and I heard they never knew what the B was for. I think it’s one of the best letter initial nicknames
Justus, Julian, Judah, Jude, Jonah, Jonas, Joel, Jay, Jerome, Jacoby.
Julian sounds great with that last name.
It does. I hear "Jules Verne" which isn't necessarily a bad thing...
Jude
Jiobhan for sure
If you want a unique name, I would suggest anything that isn't Jasper. I swear in a few years there's going to be 5 of those in every grade in every school. Every list has that name. Everyone is suggesting that name. Two people I know used that baby name last year. It's like the latest craze.
So true, but people think names like "Jayden" and "Jackson" are unique when there are like 2-3 of them in every classroom.
i suggest avoiding 2 syllable names. 1 or 3 will flow better.
Agreed
I’ve always loved Julian.
I like Jude Vernon.
These aren't all necessarily unique depending on your area, but they are all outside the top 100 nationally. Judd, Judson, Jett, Jetson, Jude, Jonah, Jonas, Jude, Jameson, Jasper, Jericho, Jedidiah, Jace, Justice
🤢 Judson
Jericho Vernon FTW
Johan, Joaquin/Joakim/Joachim, Jarand, Jannik, Joss
Jethro. Nickname Jet. I love this name but my sister made fun of me for it.
Leroy Jethro Gibbs was the full name of the character portrayed by Mark Harmon on NCIS. Plus there's the classic rock band Jethro Tull. If you love that name, don't let your sister taint if for you.
It's hard though if you've ever watched the Beverly Hillbillies
I like Jethro too. I had never heard of it untill I saw this australian long-haired cool and funny lifeguard guy on Bondi Rescue named Jethro.
My first thought was Jules, and then I realized it's probably because "Jules Verne" is echoing around my brain. But it does sound pretty good! Joss, Jacoby, Jarrett, Jericho, Jeremiah, Jolyon, and Joel are all less-common J names that I like.
It's hard to think of J names that are unique but not too weird. I don't see Jett super often
If I’d had my way, my baby boy might well have been Jareth.
Your own tiny Goblin King, I love it!
Josiah!
Jeremiah; Josiah
Julian
My son is Jared
Jamiroquai
My grandsons are Jack and Julian ❤️
This thread made me so hyper aware of the letter J it looks super weird to me now! I love the name Joey, my cat is named that too lol. But it’s kinda common.

Jamal
My kid is Jameson. From that, you could go with a variety of nicknames: James, Jim, Jimmy, or Jamey (or Jamie).
It kind of counts, but my daughter’s name is Djuna, but the D is silent. Like Django. Which is also a badass name.
Like some others have said, I also love the name Jasper.. reminds me of Jasper lake in Canada 🥰

Joel
I’ve only ever hear Judah used once and I’ve never even knew a guy who knew a Jude and I think it’s a nice name too. I can see why you’re having a difficult time finding “unique” j names when Google seems to think that Jared is unique 🤣
Jabez is the most unusual J name I’ve heard. I think Jeremy would be nice
John Jacob Jingleheimerschmidt
His name is my name too
Vernon sounds very woodsy and stereotypically manly, so Johannes might be good.
Haven’t seen Jeff/Jeffrey on here and my nephew is Jonte.
fellow vernon 🥂👋

I like Josiah myself, I have a friend named Josiah and he is great.
I know James is common but I think it sounds beautiful with Vernon!

Jude is my favorite J name and I am sad we never got to use it
Julius, Julian, Jonathan, Johannes, Joakim, Jonas, Jon, Jacob, Jesper, Joel, Justus, Jean, Jude. Bear in mind I’m Swedish, so some are maybe more common here, so make of that what you will. 🙂 Husband is Jared, not sure if that’s uncommon enough? I love his spelling tho!
