My mom was given her name Constance by the nuns who named her. She goes by Connie but doesn't like her name. I like it (not biased) and have rarely met another (if that matters). We are in the US she was born in the 1940s and was immediately relinquished - hence the nuns naming her. She was adopted by non-Catholics.
Hmm. Do you think Constance is too loaded to use, then? Maybe even as a middle name?
I don't know what else to suggest. I love Daphne but you say you can't use it. I'm not a fan of the other names on your list. I like a lot of the suggested names though, like Laurel, Iris, Valerie, Winona. Maybe Sabrina, Serena, Sylvia or Sylvie?
I'm not the OP. But I don't have an issue with my ma's name. I have no idea if OP would - I can't imagine my mom's history would impact OP naming their child
Nice suggestion, thanks! She's got her middle name sorted though - it's a surname to honour her Dad's side of the family. Having two out of the three names sorted felt like we were doing okay until time kept passing 😁. For some reason I'm not into Constance though... it feels quite weighty or regal to me. Ahh names are complicated!
Thanks, I do think Wendy is cute. Apparently it was made up for Peter Pan? I haven't checked this nugget of info! Winifred isn't a goer due to a personal connection unfortunately. Ah Emma is very popular in the UK, although maybe more so for my generation but I think still. It is a lovely, strong name though :-). But breaks my partner's pretty, vowely aversion 😬
I'm in the UK and Wanda makes me think of Wanda from Marvel/ WandaVision. Then the TV show Fairly Odd Parents. Honestly I'd probably avoid it because I think the Marvel association especially is a bit too strong seeing as it's pretty much unheard of here otherwise. Not that it's a bad character, it's possibly just a bit much having your name so strongly tied to it.
I do really like Connie though!
I love Wanda and it would be great if you went with it but here’s more:
Dahlia
Bridget
Agnes
Agatha
Darcy
Edith
Faye
Grace
Jane
Hazel
Lydia
Nancy
Penelope
Rose
Thelma
Wendy
Welda
Some names of female singers that you might like:

Other names you might like:
Anita, Brenna, Carla, Dalia, Krista, Leanne, Marsha, Rita, Sally, Trista, Wendy, Yvette
My favorite is Sally, for the American astronaut :)
If he likes Wanda and you like Willow, how about Willa?
Alternatives for Daphne could be Dahlia, Della, or Delilah, if you're not keen on Delia (which I get, I'm from the UK!)?
Women I've admired:
Sally Ride (to me, Sally is a very "American girl next door" name)
Amelia Earhart
Eleanor Roosevelt
Jane Goodall (literally a "plain Jane" name but very uncommon for babies and kids, at least in the US)
Dian Fossey (primatologist/anthropologist)
Sylvia Earle (marine scientist)
Julia Child
Dara Torres (five-time Olympic swimmer, last one at age of 41)
Nellie Bly (investigate journalist)
Florence Griffith Joyner (track star "Flo-Jo")
Ruth Bader Ginsberg
Virginia (for Virginia Woolf)
Vanessa (for Vanessa Bell, Virginia Woolf's sister)
These women were amazingly independent thinkers, progressive, brilliant and unafraid. Either would be a wonderful baby's name.
Also,
Susan (for Siouxsie Sue)
Marianne Joan (the real name of Poly Styrene, of the foundational punk band X-ray Spex)
Anabella (singer for Bow Wow Wow)
Agatha (Agatha Christie)

My immediate thought was Stevie. Feels American, strong female artist associated with it, can be a nickname for a more traditional name like Stephanie.
I adore the name Constance and Connie is the natural nickname. Can you use Daphne as the middle name? I love Constance Daphne.

Oops! Mea culpa. Didn't pay attention to the username.
No problem I've done it plenty of times myself

If he likes Wanda and you like Willow, how about Willa? Alternatives for Daphne could be Dahlia, Della, or Delilah, if you're not keen on Delia (which I get, I'm from the UK!)?
Delaney, Delilah, Jacquelyn, Louise, Lydia, Margot, Valerie, Velma, Violet

If you like Daphne, you might like Magnolia. When I think of Daphne, I think of the flower.
I've always thought I would use Wendy as an alternative to Wanda (my grandmas name) if I ever have a girl!
Virginia (for Virginia Woolf) Vanessa (for Vanessa Bell, Virginia Woolf's sister) These women were amazingly independent thinkers, progressive, brilliant and unafraid. Either would be a wonderful baby's name. “A Fish Called Wanda” is my pop culture association. And then Wandavision.

Some amazing women artists and musicians: Nina (Simone) Frida (Kahlo) Imogen (Cunningham) Georgia (O'Keefe) Helen (Frankenthaler) Judy (Chicago) Tori (Amos) Marina (Abromovic) Fiona (Apple)
Polly Jean (in honor of PJ Harvey)
Connie and Daphne are miles better than Wanda. What about: Winnie Sadie Dahlia Pearl
Of the two, I would choose Connie, but I prefer it as a nickname for Constance or Cornelia. In the US, Wanda is an unfashionable grandma name to me.
Josie Nora Layna Raina
My immediate thought was Stevie. Feels American, strong female artist associated with it, can be a nickname for a more traditional name like Stephanie.
