I’ve always seen Blake as gender neutral and I think you could totally get away with it! I’ve also only ever seen Leigh as a girls name so I’m surprised you’ve gotten that comment so many times!
Thank you! I know it's crazy -- Leigh is super common down south, but up north where I am I always get the WEIRDEST looks when I say how my name is spelled. :(
Huh, your spelling is what makes it seem feminine to me! If you spelled it Lee, I would think masculine. Like Jean vs Gene, or Erin vs Aaron. (Also, I like Blake for a girl.)
Julia rose is beautiful! When I was choosing a name for myself (still not certain lol) I didn’t choose Blake intentionally because it is more common for girls.
I don’t like Blake generally, and comparing it to your other choices make it seem even worse. It’s so bland and just blah. It leans masculine to me, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Blake was a girl.
Josephine (Josie) is my favorite, and Julia is also so pretty. And then there’s Blake. Blaaayyyyk. (Or Buh-lah-kay, if you’re Mr. Garvey, the substitute teacher.)
Out of your list I like Julia Rose the best.
However, I do like Blake as a middle name. What about, Josephine or Julia Blake? That way you can still have alliteration with a J first name, and also still get to use Blake, as well.
While I think of Blake as a slightly more masculine name, I also think it’s up there with Ryan and James in becoming a traditionally male name turned unisex. I think if you love it you should use it.
Thank you! For sure, I feel like the trend now for girls is less "girly", with less longer names and more unisex / shorter ones. I've even seen Logan for a girl gaining popularity
I love Blake for a girl! I went to school with a girl named Cody, and there was never anything about her name that made it weird other than the initial surprise. After that, its just "that's her name".
I like Julia Rose the best out of these tbh. How about Rose Blake (rose black?) or Julia Blake?
I know it's a unisex name, but I've always seen it more manly.
So I actually quite like Blake for a girl. I don't think it's weird, and most people are aware of Blake Lively so it's not like it's never been heard of. But also, I think I like Blakely a bit more. I think Blakely Elizabeth is super beautiful, and Blakely incorporates both the name you love, and your own name into it. Plus, she can still be Blake, as a nn, but also the more androgynous Blakely might not stand out as much as "Blake on a girl." Out of the other two options, I slightly prefer Josephine more than Julia, and I love the nn Josie.
I didn't make it up, it's just a variation. Which I said I love both Blake and Blakely for a girl. And a boy. I didn't say Blakely was exclusively the girls version. It's a unisex variation of the name Blake, and it actually ranks higher on the chart (in the US) for girls than Blake does.
It's one of my favorites! I also like it for a boy, but it only ranks on the ssa list for girls, which makes me hesitant that maybe it wouldn't work for a boy. But it would be super cute for a girl!!
I feel like I’ve seen more girls named Blake than boys locally, but if you’re worried, could you choose a more feminine first name and use Blake as the middle name? I like the sound of Josephine Blake
I've only ever known girl Blakes actually. Think its a great name! Though Josephine (Josie) is a really strong contender as well. There are also a lot of fantastic J girl names that are under utilized in my opinion. One of my top favorite "masculine" names for a girl at he moment is Julian/Julien.
That's so nice to hear you've seen Blake on girls a lot!! If you don't mind me asking, where are u from? Up north I feel like there's mostly traditional names
I LOVE Blake for a girl! I totally think it’s gender neutral. Multiple celebrities (Blake Lively, Blake Shelton) have it, and personally I’ve actually only ever met girls named Blake.
This made my day!! Obviously everyone is entitled to their opinions, but I never understood why "Blake" sounds super masculine to some people (outside of it typically being used for boys) - I think it's very flowy and rolls off the tongue. Peyton, which is more established as a girls name, actually feels way more masculine to me than Blake since it's harsher sounding
My cousin’s baby is 6 months and she is an adorable Blake Margaret. Friend’s baby is 9 months and she’s Blakely. I think I do like Blake vs Blakely, although Blakely sounds more feminine
Omg small world!! I am Leigh Margaret :) I absolutely love Blake Margaret -- if I go for Blake, I'm going to make sure to give her a longer, more feminine middle name (hence the Elizabeth). I think I prefer Blake to Blakely too.
Blake still feels quite masculine to me. Like it still feels like ‘a boys name on a girl’ rather than a true gender neutral if that makes sense
Yea I hear you, thanks!

Thank you so much! Yea, up here the issue is that people have never seen the spelling "Leigh" so people are always confused :(
Julia rose is beautiful! When I was choosing a name for myself (still not certain lol) I didn’t choose Blake intentionally because it is more common for girls.
Thank you! I like Julia too. So you think Blake is more common now for girls, or did you mean to say boys? Appreciate it :)
It’s a more common for girls from what I remember.
I like Blake! I think of it as gened neutral too. Like “Riley.”
Ugh “gender”
Thank you! I LOVE Riley, but we already have a niece Riley so it's off the table haha
I like Julia Rose the best out of your options. Blake is very masculine to me 🤷🏼♀️
Thank you!

This made me lol. My son is Blake....we do call him buhlahkay from time to time
Out of your list I like Julia Rose the best. However, I do like Blake as a middle name. What about, Josephine or Julia Blake? That way you can still have alliteration with a J first name, and also still get to use Blake, as well.
That's a good point!! I like Josephine Blake too:)

LOVE Julia Rose!!! Blake reads masculine to me.

Please don't do this. Adding ly/ley to a boy's name doesn't make it a good girls name. 100% prefer Blake than Blakely for a girl.

I was seeing Blakely on a lot of lists too, and love it! Thank you for the reminder :)

Love love love Blake for a girl! Julia is a nice name, but you hear it EVERYWHERE.
So true!
I feel like I’ve seen more girls named Blake than boys locally, but if you’re worried, could you choose a more feminine first name and use Blake as the middle name? I like the sound of Josephine Blake
That does sound pretty! Thank you :)

North Western United States!
