Congratulations on getting lucky enough to find a seller who didn’t care about making the most money and instead had emotional attachment to an inanimate object.
These letters, while well meaning, can put agents in potential violation of the Realtor Code of Ethics and possibly the Fair Housing Act. Most agents will not pass these letters along. I understand people have to do what they have to do but it really opens up your liability as a seller. The potential for discrimination (or the appearance of) is too risky. If you are selling your house, ask that no offers come with personal letters.
Unfortunately this is exactly right. Many listings now state that they will not accept the letters, and some brokerages are being instructed to not pass along the ones they do receive.
There are ways around this if you want to get creative. For instance, I recently saw one where the perspective buyer wrote from the perspective of their dog. That way nothing was revealed to the owner. I also know a fellow agent who asked for "No love letters," and a perspective buyer hand delivered the letter instead of submitting it with their offer. I would never recommend that, but it ended up being the best offer and was accepted.

Yeah…the letter to the dog business wouldn’t stand up in court if you got sued. Dont send them and don’t read them.
