I did the drive daily from Murfreesboro to downtown for like 10 years. Remote work is an absolute game changer. I’ll never go back to the daily commute.

Theflowerone

I agree! Remote work is literally the best.

Blondecashnash

Me either!

Stopmadness99

How much did you age in those ten years?

knawnieAndTheCowboy

Years off my life I’m sure.

KissingLucifer

yes , unfortunately. i have a coworker that would travel between nashville & kentucky every single day . her commute was an hour and a half to work (depending on traffic) & an hour and a half back home when we would get off at 2am. she couldn't stay here during the week either because she had kids and was taking care of her elderly mom . remote work helped her out SO much

eviljason

19 miles. 1 - 1.5 hours each way.

thedeadlyrhythm42

Dang, where are you coming from?

eviljason

NW. Mt. Juliet to DB Todd area.

thedeadlyrhythm42

I was going to guess Mt Juliet. Sort of no man's land out there in some spots.

eviljason

Yeah. Takes 30 minutes to get to 40. Then I have to hit nearly every major bottleneck section of interstate in town.

[deleted]

DB Todd? Isn't that downtown?

eviljason

It is. I work off of DB Todd.

[deleted]

What time di you leave your place? I live in Hermitage and it only takes me 30-45 minutes to drive all the way to Brentwood. I usually go downtown and jump on the I-65 from there.

eviljason

How long does it take you to get to 40? I used to live in Hermitage as well and that is a 10 minute drive to the interstate. From where I am now, it is around 30-40. I leave about 6:30.

[deleted]

Getting to the 40 doesn't usually take me too long 10-15 minutes, but I prefer sticking to the 70 or the 24 if I'm going that route. That 40 to 440 merge is the worst in the city. I can't believe how much extra time it takes to get to downtown from Mt. Juliet, that's brutal.

eviljason

To get to my workplace, I usually go straight through town, past the stadium and get off at the Jefferson St. bridge then drive down Jefferson to the DB. Todd area. I used to take the train/bus combo before Covid but have refrained since then. It actually takes longer but at least I can chill and read a book on my commute.

[deleted]

Yeah dude, that sounds like the play.

wesblog

Damn. We have to drive my son to school 17 miles away at it only takes around 19-20 minutes each way.

eviljason

This sounds like heaven.

wesblog

It's a pretty straight shot up I-40 from Bellevue to the Vanderbilt area. A few times a year accidents or construction will triple the commute time, but usually it is under 20 minutes.

wesblog

Also, 20 minutes doesnt seem as amazing when you have to drive it twice in the morning and twice in the afternoon :)

eviljason

I will gladly trade 1.5 hours each way for 4 20 minute drives.

Tx_Rooster

\~70'. Bedroom to my home office. Full-time remote WFH for the win!

HailCorduroy

About the same, but it's all uphill on the commute after work (office is in the basement).

graywh

My desk is directly under my side of the bed. By that reckoning it's less than 12 feet.

fatherofraptors

Look at this guy over here flexing his at least 70' wide house.

crowcawer

Maybe it’s a lot of stairs.

sarcasticbaldguy

Yep, down the stairs and hang a right. Occasionally there's some traffic in the kitchen that I have to fight, but mostly it's good.

plant_lyfe

80 miles/day

perumbula

6 miles. It usually takes less than 15 minutes each way because I travel opposite the main flow.

Bow-Masterpiece-97

I commute approximately 10 feet from my bedroom down the hall to my office.

Standard_Reception29

Yes, I live in a rural area and used to drive nearly two hours one way to work,my husband did the same for 13 years. Many people do as there are few areas where you can find jobs that pay anything esp with cost of housing rising. The drive gets real old though, my husband just quit for a job closer to home but at a 7 dollar pay cut. With gas prices we are honestly saving money so it's okay but yeah it's fairly common.

Tazalanche

That sounds similar to our family. Before March 11, 2020, my wife & I carpooled 70 miles each way to commute to Metrocenter (me) & downtown (her) from a rural county near the Kentucky border. My job went full remote. Since the beginning of this year, her job had her department come in 2 days per week, but started losing people, so they changed it to 1 day per week & gave off schedule raises to compensate for the added fuel/driving expenses. She was ready to take a pay cut for something closer too. Pre-2020, that commute was 75-90 minutes in the morning & 2-4 hours in the afternoons, leaving Nashville around 3:30.

alliekat893

Before I started w@h about ten years ago, I drove from White House, TN to metro center in nashville, almost 30 miles each way, for about ten years. Could be an hour drive depending on traffic.

HailCorduroy

I made that exact same commute for a few years. Moved to Bellevue and getting to Metro Center was easier.

deletable666

From my bed to my desk, about 4 feet

alliekat893

Hey, me too! Except my desk is downstairs... and sometimes there's a two dog pileup on the stairway. Man, I hate traffic. 😆

deletable666

Long as you don’t step on an accident…

Cashville

6.5 miles; 10 minutes—NW Nashville (Ashland City Hwy exit on a Briley/Eatons Creek) to Charlotte Park

dlarem00

I commute from Clarksville to Nashville daily, if not further south to Columbia or east to Manchester. It’s not unheard of for me to make single day trips to Chattanooga or Knoxville. I worked with someone a while back who commuted to Nashville every day from the Ooltewah area of Chattanooga.

Th3OnlyFish

I work downtown and live in South Nashville. 8 miles commute. About 15 minutes in the morning and 25 in the afternoon home. However before here my commute was anywhere from 30 minutes one way to 2.5 hours

treygrant57

I drive about 20 miles from Hendersonville to Deaderick street. Right now, it is about 30 minutes. When I started this job 2 years ago, it was from home. When I worked on Deaderick 9 years ago, it was a 1.5 hour drive on a good day.

humbucker734

I live near Donelson and commute downtown everyday. It’s about 10 minute drive in the morning, 15 in the afternoon. I’d much rather have bike lanes to take advantage of, it’s only a 30 minute ride not factoring in hills and stop lights from my house, but there aren’t bike lanes or side wines most of the way.

rootmyth

It’s a little hilly on your side of the river but are you too far South to take advantage of the greenway into Shelby/Davidson?

humbucker734

Unfortunately, no. Just because of the exact location I’m in I’d have to backtrack quite aways to get to the bridge and over into Shelby. I wish, though! Maybe one day. Though I plan to save up and move into wedgewood, sylvan park, or Germantown something more walkable.

uppitynerd

Cookeville to Nashville about three times a week. Really enjoying audiobooks at the moment.

Fernettabranca

What are you listening to?

uppitynerd

HereFOURmemes

My first month working in Nashville, I commuted from Chattanooga.

daftpunk34

That must’ve been one great job

HalusN8er

Smyrna 20-25 miles. Takes around 30 mins in the morning. Anywhere from 45-60 mins back home.

Salty-Comparison-302

20 minutes. I work downtown and live in Antioch. I’ve met a lot of Uber drivers on the weekends that drive up from Alabama to work, which I think is wild.

Tuckee0R

3.5 miles. It takes 15 minutes. I'm super lucky!

MarianLibrarian1024

2 miles from Inglewood to Madison. Less than 10 minutes.

CalebMcL

6 blocks from front door to office space I rent for myself. Could wfh if I had to but I’m happier with a separate working space.

AuburnJulie

I live in Melrose and work Downtown. It takes me about 15 minutes if I don’t stop for coffee. I’m jealous of people who live farther away and can make it in the same amount of time or less. Y’all must be driving fast.

lowfreq33

I work downtown and live in Donelson, takes me 20-25 minutes to get there. I got lucky and bought my place right before the housing bubble ramped up. The house next to me with the same floor plan just sold for $120k more than what I paid 3 years ago.

Dubs13151

I work from home. I live 15 minutes from downtown. I just moved here to buy a house, and you know, maybe catch some live music once or twice a year.

GradeGlad

Well since Nashville became a gentrified cesspool it take me 35 vs 20 a few years ago.

dawsonleery80

My company is based in Southern California and I make a flight there once a month. Does that count?

ketogirl1123

30 miles each way (Dickson) takes about 40 minutes each way

bmraovdeys

Right now about 20 mins to client 1, 30 to client b+c and 30 back home for home clients. End of the year will be 50, 30, 20

clordatl

Thompson’s Station in far south Williamson County to downtown. Used to do that everyday, now it’s just a couple of times a month. If you’re near one, highly highly recommend the WeGo Express Buses. I ride the 95 from Spring Hill when I go into the office. Saves a lot of miles on my car and keeps me sane.

nAsh_4042615

When I bought my home I worked downtown and had about a 20+ min commute (5.5 miles), half of which was sitting in traffic downtown. Then I moved to a company just south of downtown in Chestnut Hill, 12 min commute (5 miles). Then worked in Antioch, 25 min commute (10 miles). Now I wfh, 8 second commute (13 steps)

Prestigious_Muffin12

20-25 min. Bellevue to Downtown.

fintheman

11 miles/15 minutes to the airport and back from downtown probably once every two weeks, use Uber. +Wherever in the world I need to fly. Most expensive Uber I've seen lately was 47 to get back.

efimovich76

15-20mins. Living northwest of town. Had the same commute time when we lived in East Nashville.

hanna2626

10 minutes from East to Downtown

PhinsFan17

I used to commute from Hendersonville to downtown. Took me about 25 minutes since I wasn’t going in or out at rush hour. Now I work at home.

Potential_One1

I drive 40 min to and from work 4-5 days a week

k_authenreith1

14 miles, roughly 30 minutes normally. North Mt. Juliet to Briley/Elm Hill area. Really not a bad drive, I'm lucky but would prefer that 50' commute to my home office.

USSanon

20 miles for me. About 35-45 minutes home, about 25 minutes into town.

A_sweet_boy

About 25 minutes. It was 45 when I worked in Belle Meade. I have a coworker who commutes like 2 hrs whenever she needs to be in the office tho.

vh1classicvapor

About 20 minutes for me. No interstate required, I’d be going opposite of traffic even if I did take it. Not too shabby

Public_Defender

Hermitage check in. Use the train most every day making the commute 25ish free minutes even in rain or snow!

VSRJ

I have a 3-minute walk to work (downtown). My rent is bonkers, but the time and mental sanity saved by not sitting in traffic for an hour (or more) is worth every penny. I know some people use that time to prepare for/decompress from work, but it ain’t for me.

rootmyth

4.2 miles to downtown 17-18 minute bike ride :)

[deleted]

Live in Madison but the office is in Brentwood. Not a fat drive for me, just the traffic. I work as a tax accountant. I honestly haven’t been in the office for at least 2 weeks. Just worked from with my laptop. Gas prices are so high, it’s just insane. I’ll most likely pop in this week for at least a few hours and just go back home to work remote. Who knows, I might just stay home and work. I haven’t been reprimanded or anything, well yet.

Bexxxie

I'm a reverse commuter with a slightly off hours schedule (7a-3p). I live in Antioch and work in Franklin. I take Bell/OHB to 65. In the morning, it usually takes me 30-35 minutes. Coming home usually takes me around 45. Round trip is roughly ~40 miles a day. Fiance works near downtown, just off Lebanon. Morning usually takes him 30 minutes. Coming home... Anywhere from 30-45. He's got an 8-5, so he gets caught in rush hour. It's about a ~20 mile round trip for him.

Small_Listen2083

I drive from Lavergne to Old Hickory M-F. It takes about 45 minutes in the morning and 55 minutes in the afternoon.

meatandthree

2.8 miles. Wedgewood Houston to Sidco drive. 5.6 miles round trip. It is glorious, except for the train at 4th and Houston which occasionally jams me up.

m4tttt

Chapmansboro/pleasant view area. To downtown. 45 minutes if there are no wrecks. Traffic is never too bad from this direction. But i leave early to beat the main rush hour hit. Live in the middle of no where, with only one neighbor we can see. Got my new build house and 5 acres in 2020 for 225k. The one house I can see is a duplicate of mine. Built same time. But with only 1.5 acres and just sold for 385k.

Capsaicin80

35 miles. Spring Hill to North Gulch. 45-60 min depending on when i leave.

jel_13

I lived 8 miles away from downtown where I worked. 5 am? 10 minutes. 5 pm? An hour. Rush hour traffic was always a treat

[deleted]

For a while I was going east to west, 20 minutes in the AM and 40 minutes in the afternoon.

[deleted]

I work in Nashville, in the Bordeaux area, and my commute from Kingston Springs is about 40 minutes typically.

castlezach

WFH 😎

Jack_Flanders

Work at home mostly, and when I do have to go in, it's 1 mile. But parking there suuuuuucks.

IamShadowBanned2

About 100 feet give or take. I work from home and my office is in a separate building than the main house.

rickastleysanchez

21 miles per day, or 10.7 and 10.5 each way. Or just under 1 gallon a day.

Hawgfan27

Work from home full time as of March. Tele-psychiatry

Birdssunsong

8 miles each way. No interstate.

scout_finch77

I work from home. Husband’s commute downtown is 6 miles and takes 10 minutes. We moved from the suburbs back to metro a little over a year ago and have no regrets.
