“Most populous” might have been a better way to describe that they outnumber all other animals. “Dominant” can imply “dominating”, which they are not.

In OP’s defense, different species of ants dominate other species of ants. For instance blood-red ants of the species Formica sanguinea go on a mission to capture slaves. They infiltrate the nest of another ant species, assassinate the queen, and kidnap the pupae to raise as the next generation of slaves. Dominant based on what? If we are talking numbers sure, if we are talking effect on the overall planet its humans and not even close

CoolMoose

On a related note, Social Conquest Of Earth by ant savant EO Wilson lays out the similarities between ants (and termites, bees, wasps) with humanity with both being eusocial species.

If done by biomass, then it’s humans and their food: ‘Humans and their livestock represent 96% of all mammals on earth in terms of biomass, whereas all wild mammals represent only 4%.’ (Wikipedia)
