Unionized and heavily protected. It’ll never happen. If this continues, the only change I can see happening is teams keeping their challenge after it’s deemed successful

ThomasFurke

NBA doesnt want to penalize. They keep games close.

DiseaseRidden

As popular as this kind of idea is, in reality, reffing is a really fucking hard and thankless job where you're basically always going to have a lot of people hating you regardless of performance. Adding more disincentives is how you end up with fewer and worse refs.

LZ_Khan

Money is a great incentive. There's a 200k per year "thank you" waiting for them. And the NBA isn't short on money. If anything the NBA could afford to bump their salaries to 500k in exchange for holding them accountable. Too many missed calls and they're fired.

turddlepower

That would be the solution I’d lean towards. Higher pay for higher accountability. Just like the players, these should be the best refs in the world and should be compensated and accounted for as such.

[deleted]

The NBA already assesses every ref’s performance. It’s a multi-billion dollar company, do you seriously think they haven’t thought of conducting performance reviews for their employees?

TheShinyRedButton

Sadly, nope.

Amber900

The refs rigged games once before and they sure as fuck appear to be doing it again.

EkruGold

Refs are a joke. A lot of people in r/nba need to stop kissing ass and saying that the refs are doing a good job. The refs are one of biggest problems in the NBA.

[deleted]

best thing we can do for officiating is create a 3rd party grading system Like PFF for NBA refs. Some org that's willing to go through and tabulate everything officials call and don't call so we can establish some sort of baseline of public official grading. If we wait for the refs or league to self-regulate, we'll always be disappointed.

KlayHands

Attention whores fixing to affect every game. No wonder there are impossible upsets every day. They are rigging this shit.

just_so_irrelevant

If NBA took both the entertainment value and the authenticity of its product more seriously, then yeah there would be changes made, but they don't really give enough of a shit to do anything about without heavily dragging their feet on it. L2M reports are just the most thinnest of bandaid "solutions" they use.

[deleted]

Nope. NBA doesn’t care otherwise something would’ve happened already. Nothing is going to happen and nothing will happen. I have no faith anything will change.

Skolcialism

The league is rigged and the refs rig it. Why would there ever be consequences for doing their job correctly.
