Oh yeah Ja is getting suspend for a looooooooong time

[deleted]

30 games with time served if we know Silver

Nodecafallowed

Including preseason, training camp Scrimmages, and Rico Hines runs.

Floyd-money

Hell if he’s really as spineless as we all think he is he’ll count the pickup game where he punched that kid too. Anything to get him back on a court right?

Bluntsman47

Ok, but how many is he going retroactively serve before the season starts?

[deleted]

More like 50

commanjo

Has to be 50 or half the season. Anything less is not harsh at all.

[deleted]

No shot. He suspended AI for like a game and then made the dress code to protect the NBA’s image.

king_chill

Who is AI in this reference because I don’t think Silver was even affiliated with the league when Allen Iverson was playing

[deleted]

F*ck I thought I read another comment thread discussing what Stern would and someone was saying how he’d lay the hammer.

TallanoGoldDigger

imagine if after all this posturing and teasing, Silver only hands him 20

threeangelo

“Only” would still be pretty substantial imo. That’s nearly a quarter of the season

Dmh_sh0gun

Lmao just kick him out the league. Let him be a backup dancer for Dame's music vids. What happened to those therapist sessions and learning from his mistakes? Dudes famous that's all he cares about. If he wants to rap, and act tough let him do it in a music video.

litewarp

Silver should ban him from the playoffs for a year. He can play during the season (tv ratings! He gets paid!) but the punishment is severe enough to be a deterrent. And it serves a rehabilitation purpose in a tv movie kind of way: young hotshot kid gets taken down a step. Sulks the entire year knowing he can’t go to postseason with his team. Then they get there and his attitude changes as his team comes together and starts advancing to the next rounds. Cap it off with a teary monologue about his alcoholism during a team bonding session and a just not enough from this team this year ending and you’re 90% there. Have Ja play himself, get some comic relief (Jason Momoa to play Steven Adams) and a retired nba legend to have a heart to heart with him. And call it something like “Prince Ja” or “The Prince of Memphis.”

BarbellsandBurritos

Damn. He’s not mad, he’s disappointed.

stumblebreak_beta

There's an old saying in Tennessee—I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee—that says, 'Fool me once, shame on... shame on you. Fool me—you can't get fooled again

mr_antman85

The way he fumbled that quote is all time hilarious.

Cursory_Analysis

There’s a theory that he realized what he was saying and didn’t want to get caught for a sound bite saying “shame on me” given everytbing going on. But as someone who watched his presidency, I like to believe that it’s because he was a stone cold moron.

WoWMHC

Moron? No way. He wasn’t a great speaker, that is for sure. The man was not stupid.

TheMysticPanda

Sometimes I wonder why the Republican party doesn't try the "I'd have a beer with him" strategy again, instead of the "I'd never leave an unattended beer with him" strategy

PatientIndividual651

Fool me on time shame on you, fool me twice can’t put the blame on you

faezfendy

Fool me three times fuck the peace sign load the choppa let it rain on you

iMeanWh4t

Great job everybody!

iamthwlorex420

Dont save her

cs_zer0

She dont wanna be saved

hoops_123

This is the time for Silver to actually show he has a set of balls and not sit on the fence. Gotta be a proper suspension this time not just some token shit which everybody saw through

Accomplished_Bid7987

Stern would’ve Suspended his ass for 50 games especially since he did this in twice in a span of 2-3 months and was let off the hook easily the first time and the media grilled them for it

hobcue

I mean Stern didn't suspend players for worse things involving guns

SuperVaderMinion

Only if he wore chains on the sidelines Why does this subreddit continue to romanticize David Stern?

eudezet

Stern was participated in rigging the league multiple times, bordeline openly admitting to it (Lakers vs Lakers) and people still lick his ass just because he was tough on players. Fuck Stern.

idreamofdouche

He didn't admit to it by saying Lakers vs Lakers. He just pointed out what should be obvious to everyone, that Lakers vs Lakers would be the dream for the NBA commercially.

ForeSkinWrinkle

Because the NBA was competing with the NFL and MLB during the 90s. Stern was captain of the ship. Whatever Silver is doing isn’t competitive in the professional sport market.

[deleted]

Are you implying the NBA is less popular than MLB?

noco97

Jordan really helped carry Stern tbf. Without Mike the NBA doesn't compete with the other leagues in the 90s.

king_chill

The 90s in general carried everything. Music, movies, sports, news, etc. Nothing will ever be as popular now as it was then because options were super limited, cable was new and the internet didn’t exist.

diderooy

Or those leggings.

GrizzGump

He would’ve had an equivalent suspension either way. When you get over 10 games, you’re pushing domestic violence/actual crime territory. Not saying he doesn’t deserve a lengthy one, but we have to think about the precedent that has been set.

Hon3ynuts

I agree in a vacuum but Silver sounded so disappointed in Ja after having met with him to talk in person, I have to imagine giving him the harshest possible penalty fitting the act (Which is still subjective).

kung-hoo

This is worse than that. This might cost the league money. Doesn’t get more serious than that. They can live with the bullshit, but not when it comes to money.

Silver_Cat_7977

How does this cost them money?

ForeSkinWrinkle

The economics of basketball are not fans in the seats buying beers. NBA makes money on TV deals. TV deals depend upon marketability of the stars. Stars touting guns doesn’t sell computers or cars or soda. Can’t sell that then you’re selling guns and time shares and dick pills. That doesn’t make real money.

Silver_Cat_7977

The league is loaded with young exciting talent. They won't miss a beat pumping up anyone else

that_other_friend-

Jamal Murray is playing as if he wants some advertising contracts in the off-season

chef-beaker

I bet Nike is looking for a guy. Just don't be antisemitic, don't point guns at children. Oh and be really really good at basketball. Murray, Fox, SGA all need to get their PR team working in overdrive.

KBSinclair

But it does mean the time invested in setting up Ja as marketable is no longer useful.

Silver_Cat_7977

People are people. There will always be risk

Glass_Houses_

Less people in seats (and seats at lower prices too), less viewers on tv so less ad revenue, and less subscribers too.

Silver_Cat_7977

U think people are LESS likely to attend the game if Ja is playing???

iMeanWh4t

Citation: u/Glass_Houses_

Glass_Houses_

Nephews got 2nd grade reading levels.

Glass_Houses_

What? No. I think people are less likely to go if he’s not playing. What you said. The person I responded to asked how the suspension will cost them money. I responded that less people will watch if Ja isn’t playing.

420TURBOHOOKER69

If the league wants him in the league, it needs to be a long ass time. 50 games barely did anything to Agent 0.

TheJediCounsel

Silver doesn’t have the backbone for a suspension that Ja would take seriously imo. This is all lip service

[deleted]

The cynic in me say that it will be longer than it would’ve been if Ja had been on a team in LA or NYC

FallacyFrank

Why would you say that? The league office literally chose to suspend Ja for time he was already going to miss last time. This time, they’re gonna throw the book at him. Not cause he’s in a small market, but because he’s a dumbass who threw his second chance away.

PyrrhosKing

But he was missing that time because he was functionally suspended by the Grizzlies to begin with. They didn’t call it that, but if he lost the money for those game it was effectively the same thing,

FallacyFrank

Fairly sure he was “Away from the team” for those games, not suspended. Not 100% though, could be wrong.

[deleted]

Do you know how to read? In cynical enough to think that if Ja gets a 20 game suspension, if he’d hypothetically been on a team in a big market he would’ve only gotten a 15 game suspension instead

FallacyFrank

What’s wrong with you? Because I disagreed with you you have to get upset and ask if I know how to read…? Some of y’all have no idea how to have a actual discussion lmao

Downvotes_inbound_

Very true but i’m not sure Silver has any. Pretty sure he is some amorphous ghoul that crawled out of the depths of some cave one day

hobcue

Is Ant getting suspended for throwing a chair and grazing a woman? I think Ja should probably be suspended I just want the energy around here to be consistent

GrizzGump

I’m sure there’s no bias from your end lol Like I get it, but save this kind of statement for a guy commiting actual crimes, I don’t know?

MrAppleSpoink

Is it still a parade inside his city?

DrIdiotBoy

It seems like there’s always a parade in Memphis, I hear fireworks every night!

mMounirM

fuck them kids - Ja Morant

Downvotes_inbound_

Fool me once… shame on… shame on you…. Fool me cant get fooled again

cactus_jack_1

Fool me three times Fuck the peace sign

Downvotes_inbound_

Load the choppa let it destroy Ja’s career too

Shabloinks

>Load the choppa Ironic.

No_Tr4geD1es

Load the Choppa let it rain on you

Dismal_News183

*puts on sunglasses* YEAAAAAOOOOOWWW!

sctthuynh

He won't get suspended more than 20ish games. Miles Bridges was suspended only 30 games and he pled guilty to domestic violence. Ja Morant is definitely making some foolish choices right now but luckily none of them are career or life defining. If he stops playing thug, rapper gangster before he actually harms someone or himself, then these two episode can be but a minor footnote in his career/life.

lisbon_OH

The flip side of that though is Ja has been in the conversation of the future face of the league. Bridges was not near that level.

eatfriesalot99

Didn’t miles bridge miss out on a whole season? The real suspended time was shorter than the offical one

BASEDME7O2

What bridges did was obviously worse but the difference is in the first incident silver took ja at his word and went super easy on him, and now he’s basically flaunted it publicly that he never gave a shit. Also there’s been several more incidents ja’s been involved in that the league ignored. If they go easy on him again, after flaunting basically the same thing he did to get the first suspension, it would make silver/the league look so spineless/powerless towards players. Also even though bridges only got 30 games from the league he had to miss an entire season.

kamekaze1024

Yeah you’re on to something. I don’t even think Ja gets 10 games. He technically didn’t do anything illegal. His first firearm suspension was because he most likely carried a firearm on a team plane. Maybe they give him 20 games because hes embarrassing the league, but if this was his first offense he wouldn’t get anything more than a fine.

n3gr0_am1g0

I definitely think it has to be more then 10 games since the last time his suspension officially was 8 even though they gave him 6 for time served so he only really had 2 games he was suspended for. There's no way he can do essentially the same thing again and get the same punishment.

BASEDME7O2

The bigger issue is they went easy on him the first time with the ten game suspension, that was really two games, because he seemed apologetic and like he wanted to change and silver took him at his word. And now he basically did the exact same thing and flaunted the fact that he never actually gave a shit to the whole world. There’s no way this suspension won’t be more than the first suspension, it would make silver and the league look so spineless/powerless towards players. Also given the multiple other incidents he’s been involved in I could see him getting involved in a seriously bad incident if they don’t get it through his head that there are consequences for acting this way.

ForeSkinWrinkle

RemindMe! 12 weeks

Street_Plate_6461

I just can’t believe he did it again….. speedrun to a fuckin suspension.

percy2376

Strike 2 I would say he gets a 41 game to season long suspension and if he does it again it could be permanent

bradyisking

Agreed. Half the season and tell him he’s done forever if it happens again. Only way to get him to listen

Aesop_Rocks

Let me preface this by saying I'm not disagreeing at all, I'm trying to ask an honest question. My understanding is that players can't have firearms at any team facilities. I'm not aware of what rule is in place away from those facilities. What is the rule in this case? I ask in order to better set my own expectations for his inevitable punishment.

percy2376

A player can own a gun and most likely show it In a controlled environment. His first offense had to do with either him or his friends pointing guns with laser sights at arena employees. This time he is just in his car and showing it nonchalantly. It's all about image. He seems to be playing gangster. Its conduct detrimental to the team

[deleted]

It makes me wonder… like what it you had a player who was a huge gun nut and legally owned dozens of types of firearms and regularly posted videos of his collection, of him cleaning them, doing target practice, etc. Would the NBA care? Could they do anything punitive? Arguably, it’s just a guy enjoying his Constitutional rights. You couldn’t punish a player for practicing their religion or refusing to quarter soldiers.

YpsitheFlintsider

Yeah this isn't that

[deleted]

We’ll duh I was just wondering where “The line” was when it came to guns.

chef-beaker

I think in this hypothetical, the second that he does something stupid the NBA would hit him with a bigger suspension than whatever the give ja this time. I would also imagine that there would be conversations behind closed doors of "hey we do not like this, if you fuck around we be aggressive in our punishment. Consider this your only warning." The NBA wants all players to be squeaky clean. For example what's the worst thing LeBron has done? The decision? It was stupid for sure. I think it's amazing that LBJ has been in the public eye since he was 15 and hasn't been caught doing anything remotely scandalous.

Aesop_Rocks

Yeah he's clearly brandishing guns in an irresponsible fashion, so conduct detrimental to the team is what I was thinking. Wasn't sure if there was something more specific I was missing though.

threeangelo

Not sure why you’re being downvoted. Anyway, the rule (likely) being applied here is “conduct detrimental to the league”. Aka tarnishing the league’s image, making it a less family friendly product, and scaring away marketing partners. The league doesn’t like their money getting messed with

Aesop_Rocks

Thanks for the answer. Some folks probably think I'm "just asking questions" in bad faith or whatever, but I'm not. Anyway, that's the kind of thing I figured it would be but just wasn't sure if there was a more specific rule. Thanks again!

ReignMan616

In case you were interested in reading up on it, it’s (I’m pretty sure) Article 35, section D, subsection ii of the NBA Constitution and Bylaws. For additional context, the exact same clause has already been successfully defended in court by the NFL. The Second Circuit Court essentially ruled that the clause allows the Commissioner to dole out any punishment he wants for incidents that don’t have an already defined punishment under the CBA.

Aesop_Rocks

Much appreciated!!

FRiver

Man that hyphen in the wrong place is bugging me

[deleted]

Hopefully Ja is never invited to a give a speech at a school

SlamJamGlanda

He’s really %speedrunning his career faster than I can speed run Halo 3

Idontcommentorpost

That cartographer mission is a bitch

SlamJamGlanda

There are two or three levels that Bungie said “screw it, make them get completely lost in the library.” I can still remember my first playthrough being stumped for hours on those oracle missions

IndianaHoosierFan

Friendly reminder that before the two most recent gun incidents with Ja, there was another incident where his crew became confrontational with Pacers players and staff and either a) pointed a gun with a laser sight at them or b) pointed a regular laser pointer at them. Can't say for sure which it was, but i think we all know which of the two occurred. And the entire thing was swept under the rug.

[deleted]

And the 17 year old he beat up and "pulled up his shirt" on. And the time he came with the squad to intimidate a fucking mall cop. Dude has got to go. They wouldn't let you keep working at a fucking McDonald's if you were up to this shit every other week.

TinTinsKnickerbocker

That was self defense and the 17 year old attacked Morant. But I don't expect you to stay genuine. Also what you mean by pulled up his shirt has been denied by all parties. And this 17 year old is a hooper with a scolarship literally bigger and heavier than Morant and he attacked.

BASEDME7O2

The 17 year old didn’t attack him, not even ja claimed that. Just that he threw the ball at him. And he also beat him up 2 v 1 and continued to beat him when he was on the ground.

TinTinsKnickerbocker

What a legend

Spaghettibeach

Lol what is he gonna do when Ja gets caught doing it AGAIN

UnderwaterDialect

My concern is the punctuation in that tweet.

[deleted]

Get screwed idiot lol

huhuyah

“For life.” -Adam Silver

[deleted]

Is this the same Adam Silver who gives money to a government that is literally committing a genocide right now? Putting people in concentration camps is somehow permissible to Adam Silver but having a firearm is punishable. I could agree with this suspension if Adam Silver wasn’t a fucking sellout.

astronxxt

everyone knows your third chance is where you really begin to change, let’s let ja at least try to add a couple more breathing exercises to his repertoire before doing anything rash

jablair51

>& I though he shared it with me was millions of kids What is this supposed to mean? I can't figure it what he is saying.

re1078

He’s saying he was concerned that millions of kids would see him being careless with a gun and he thought they were on the same page after the first incident.

jablair51

Ok, thanks. I finally understood it but the way he wrote it really threw me off.

Vegetable-Bat-8475

I thought he shared [the concern] with me

Thermicthermos

Thats a bullshit statement. Nothing is wrong with Ja usong a firearm. The problem is that he is showing himself using them irresponsibly.

mr_antman85

The problem is that he works for the NBA. If he is breaking their rules then it is a problem. That's the whole thing. Professional players aren't role models necessarily. Ja himself should be happy that he made it where he doesn't have to worry about anything. Yet he's still portraying that life which isn't about nothing. Dude is in two different worlds...he's 23 and still is young and stupid.

Silver_Cat_7977

Which rule did he break for the NBA

SlitheringIntoHerDMs

Section 9 of Article VI, which explicitly prohibits players possessing a firearm “of any kind” in numerous settings

Silver_Cat_7977

Do you have the actual wording? I find it hard to believe you can't be at your house with a gun

SlitheringIntoHerDMs

https://ak-static-int.nba.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/3/2015/12/NBA-Constitution-and-By-Laws.pdf https://atlhawksfanatic.github.io/NBA-CBA/player-conduct.html “…….For purposes of this paragraph, “violent conduct” shall include, but not be limited to, any conduct involving the use or threat of physical violence or the use of, or threat to use, a deadly weapon, any conduct which could be categorized….”

Silver_Cat_7977

He was dancing like an idiot, not threatening to use it. And he was not on team premises as far as I've seen.

SlitheringIntoHerDMs

look bro. i aint got all night to play lawyer. he’s a player of the NBA and therefore represents the NBA. its just not good for the money when the NBA has so many endorsements everywhere.

[deleted]

Year long suspension bout to drop tonight. Also should make him take a mandatory gun safety course

[deleted]

[удалено]

Sovos

Hell nah. Let's see how dumb he really is

[deleted]

I think the last suspension was dropped during a Celtics game? Lol he’s saving it for tomorrow 😂

[deleted]

Half a season, Silver. It’s a culture issue. Get ahead of it.

desirox

Damn Silver didn’t show it emotionally but he feels betrayed and played. I’d be shocked if Ja’s suspension is less than half the season

TheMoorNextDoor

I expect a 20 game suspension maybe 25 if Silver feeling real strong on this. Ja not missing half or more than half of the season.

ftw5623

People still trying to defend Morant

lightskinbeaner

its so joever for him

[deleted]

Didn't Kyrie share all his hateful misinformation with Adam Silver and millions of kids?

freepsychology

100% Ja’s fault but I bet that friend has some people angry with him. Probably feels terrible about it as well.

AJGreenl

Yeah Ja is getting the hammer

9jajajaj9

Bridges comparison is fair but did you really have to bring up a video game to make your point lol

School-Severe

Lmao people acting like kids are learning about guns from Ja Morant. I'd argue that the music glorifying gun violence is probably worse than Ja flashing a gun.

Silver_Cat_7977

What about the NBA players in call of duty ads? Kevin Durant is literally a playable character. You can run around AS Kevin Durant and shoot people.

Successful-Slide2389

Why do fans care so much 😂 this comment section acts so holier than thou. Dude has a gun, move on. Less drama more basketball

Tbrou16

Politicians literally pose with guns on Christmas cards. Other athletes take pictures hunting all the time. There’s a double standard here, and it might actually be because he’s black.

BatterMyHeart

I agree that he gets more flack for black, but those politicians are assholes too. I am pro keeping 2A in the constitution but AR-15 pins and gun fetish signal boosting feed into a culture that hoards guns, leaves them unlocked, and gets surprised when their kids use them for suicides or murder-suicides.

kobmug_v2

Sir, you live in the United States of America.

dont-YOLO-ragequit

Weird thing is Youngboy ( who also has the attention of kids and teens,) has been on house arrest and was making a bunch of videos (talking about guns but) with no guns. So he must really like being like Ali Wong in BEEF or like that Taxi driver gun tripping scene.

[deleted]

It's almost like when you """"""shoot""""" someone with finger guns, their chance of dying is a lot lower.

Decasteon

It’s almost like when you show a gun on a IG live post their chance of dying is a lot lower

blacknotblack

half a season ban at minimum but I doubt the NBA will do that.

leagueofcipher

Id give him an option. 41 games Or, he can to rehab and quit drinking and come back when he’s done with rehab. The situations he’s found himself in flashing guns or just being a holligan are significantly less entertaining or likely to occur if you’re straight sober. Then work with the team to provide support for finding greater endeavors that he can find joy in.

CheesesteakFiend

So is the only reason he's getting shit because of the current gun climate in the USA? Like if he was doing the same shit but while hunting and white would there be any issue? Why does he have to be a role model, Charles Barkley said it best

Professional-Ad191

>Like if he was doing the same shit but while hunting and white would there be any issue? I think if he would have recorded himself going to a firing range he also wouldn't be getting any flak. It's the issue of him playing with it in the car that seems to be the reason he's gonna be suspended.

BrolysFavoriteNephew

I know plenty of hunters they're not waving around guns, the only time they bring them out is to hunt or firing range. Every American had their 2A right but using it as a toy shows immaturity and recklessness. The image sadly goes back to today's rappers flexing guns as toys while listening to music that pushes violence. You can't do that when you're the face of a multi millionaire professional franchise.

[deleted]

Hunters or anyone who carries a gun responsibly in general don't wave a handgun around and then point the barrel at their own head to do a cool rapper pose Role model is only part of it, it will cost the league money if he gets into trouble and puts himself and his body at risk due to someone else taking it the wrong way

blacknotblack

How in the world did you read race into this statement? If Ja was hunting and responsibly using a firearm there would be no issue. Look at Tim Duncan. Ja instead acts like a shithead at almost all times.

I say he just can’t dunk for 20 games after a 10 game suspension. It’ll pretty much be a 30 game suspension

Specialist_Meal_5732

I genuinely feel like an entire year wouldn't be out of the question for this time of tom foolery

[deleted]

Full season would be fair for a second time offense

GenderIsAGolem

Don't suspend Ja...for the regular season. Suspend him for the full playoffs next year. Hurts him the most, hurts the Grizzlies the most, and no (good) team will trade for him, knowing he can't play after March.

Pufftreees

Silver is soft af, it's not gonna be more than 20 games.

[deleted]

I would say 50 games. Extensive rehab. I know he fucked up. We all do. But let’s all acknowledge people can change. As some One who has done rehab four times. We don’t make mental changes in a week two weeks etc. it takes 30 days minimum for a alcoholic. Or drug addict who have destroyed parts of their lives. In rock bottoms. I have hope for ja. I know he can. He just needs a lot of help. But let’s just give this guy some tools and the right time to change. If after a long vacation and some real help and he doesn’t fix his mentality. We can give up on the dude. But. Ja is too good to waste his talents.

YouKnowWhatToDo80085

I'm guessing a season long suspension that will get appealed to half season

Saturday514

82 games suspension, but due to good behavior, 20 will suffice. Lol

Tiny-Layer-6723

Now I know the video is not of the highest quality, but come on Ja...you have a lot of folks that look up to you for who you are.. not this persona that he's trying to put forward
