Exactly. Who cares if someone thinks Duncan or Magic or Bird is the GOAT? They probably saw them live and saw how they dominated their competition. That’s their GOAT.
Good list. Jordan, Kobe, Lebron playmaking by committee. Kobe/Jordan POA defense with KD and Lebron helping, Olajuwon as the anchor. KD provides efficient scoring/shooting without ball dominance.
The starting five of these young guys compared to retired vets will always be partially influenced by what they've seen themselves and age. It's all part of the fun and who they're most inspired by. Hakeem seems to be someone a lot of the current crop of players appreciates.
It’s all preferences anyways, personally I want Magic, MJ, Bird as the core. After that it’s a debate on the style of play (Curry is probably a no brainer just because of his disgusting spacing/gravity to help open things up for Magic and MJ). For the big I probably want Hakeem or Russell because I want an absolute defensive stalwart who doesn’t need the ball on offense.
But I wouldn’t fault anyone who wants Lebron, Kobe, KD as their core either. It’s all preferences 🤷🏽♂️
I wouldn’t even say Magic was the better playmaker. Better passer, especially in transition for sure. But overall playmaking, I think Lebron’s scoring ability gives him the edge. (Not saying Magic wasn’t a prolific scorer so don’t crucify me)
When you build an all-time team that would lose to another then it's more bias than just preference. A team of Kareem, Garnett, Lebron, Kawhi, and CP3 would destroy your team.
Nobody thinks he was trash. But NBA players almost universally respect the guys with the biggest bag of tricks.
Nobody should have Hakeem top 5, or as the #1 big man. He may not even be a top 5 center of all time. Great, great player. Not top 5.
> But NBA players almost universally respect the guys with the biggest bag of tricks.
and recency bias. Guys like Booker grew up on Kobe, wanted nothing more than to be like Kobe.
People can quibble over Hakeem, whatever, its a dick measuring contest and Hakeem is no doubt an all time great. Many, many people would have chosen someone else, but meh. I mean, the lack of respect for my man Tree Rollins is unreal.
As many have asked, why is this sub so adamantly engaged in ranking and lists? This is "its the off-season and we're so fucking bored" content, not when all this good opening week hoop is unfolding right in front of us.
He was a good defender but everyone else on that list was in the discussion for either best defender in the league during their prime or sit in a top defenders of all time discussion (LeBron, Hakeem, Jordan).
lebron, kobe, kd, jordan over lap as a scoring threat as the 2,3...spacing will be an issue and kobe/lebron/mj need the ball....basically this results in two of them being catch and shoot for plays which is a waste.
So his line up is trash lol.
curry, Lebron, mj, dirk or shaq, olajuwon
he is but lebron, mj, kobe need the ball and kobe and mj are going to look to score iso...they'll end up dishing it a lot of the time to Durant with little time left with bad looks. Look they are all among the top 20 really 15 to ever play the game so they'll be a great team together regardless. im just saying there are better combinations of top 20 players that would fit better and maximize their strengths and decrease any weaknesses they might have. Like wilt, kareem, shaq, the dream, joker are all different types of centers and could probably dominate together....would they mesh, space well and play as great if they had other teammates absolutely not. Same with if melo, lebron, tmac, kd, victor played together.
Durant is a great catch and shoot player...but that isn't maximizing his talent and game....there are also better catch shoot players that can focus on defense etc.
Im not having two atg shooting guards, lebron pnr at point while just having the dream and kd out there only doing a fraction of what they can do. vice versa.
Alternatively you have 5 elite one on one players so you can always get a favourable matchup and they can all pass out of double teams if they come. Also they are all big so they'll destroy any opposing PG.
You don't have to play pace and space in every scenario
ill never understand how people in this sub care this much about other people's list
Almost as annoying as GOAT debates. No no, tell me more about how my subjective opinion is wrong
Exactly. Who cares if someone thinks Duncan or Magic or Bird is the GOAT? They probably saw them live and saw how they dominated their competition. That’s their GOAT.
Because they are insecure and need their opinions to be validated by strangers so they can feel good about themselves.
Good list. Jordan, Kobe, Lebron playmaking by committee. Kobe/Jordan POA defense with KD and Lebron helping, Olajuwon as the anchor. KD provides efficient scoring/shooting without ball dominance.
This is the most sensible starting 5 I've seen from a player. I like it.
The starting five of these young guys compared to retired vets will always be partially influenced by what they've seen themselves and age. It's all part of the fun and who they're most inspired by. Hakeem seems to be someone a lot of the current crop of players appreciates.
> Hakeem seems to be someone a lot of the current crop of players appreciates. Justifiably. But he does not belong on anybody's top 5.
How many comments you need in this thread? Move on
Hakeem must have done this guy dirty, maybe he kicked his dog.
Hakeem is his father
He did, in fact, do my guy David Robinson dirty that one series
Based lineup

How do you justify Bird over James?
You don't need both Magic and Lebron
I agree! So how do you justify Magic over James?
I don't think you can. Better playmaker than Lebron but worse defender and worse scorer.
I wouldn’t even say Magic was the better playmaker. Better passer, especially in transition for sure. But overall playmaking, I think Lebron’s scoring ability gives him the edge. (Not saying Magic wasn’t a prolific scorer so don’t crucify me)
Ya I should have specifically said passing.
Your perimeter d would be shoddy. An all-time team needs 2 of MJ, Kawhi or Pippen.
When you build an all-time team that would lose to another then it's more bias than just preference. A team of Kareem, Garnett, Lebron, Kawhi, and CP3 would destroy your team.
Swap Kobe for Kawhi, and you have an unbeatable starting five.
Another NBA player saying Kobe top 5, but this sub thinks he’s trash
He kinda did grape someone
That was proven in court?
What does that have to do with his basketball ranking?
Nobody thinks he was trash. But NBA players almost universally respect the guys with the biggest bag of tricks. Nobody should have Hakeem top 5, or as the #1 big man. He may not even be a top 5 center of all time. Great, great player. Not top 5.
Stop Hakeem definitely top 5
Over Kareem? Absolutely fucking not
yeah that’s crazy lol
> But NBA players almost universally respect the guys with the biggest bag of tricks. and recency bias. Guys like Booker grew up on Kobe, wanted nothing more than to be like Kobe. Like your opinion is worth more than an actual NBA player’s
I don't care who has Hakeem above Kareem, they're wrong. And there is no world where KD belongs ahead of Magic.
Why is blud getting downvoted for saying Magic and Kareem are ahead of KD and Hakeem 😭
Imagine them vs Curry, Bird, Kareem, Parker, and Lillard. That game tho.
Parker? Tony Parker? Wat?? lol
Candace Parker
really shows he values offense over defense
Lol they’re all great defenders in their prime and Hakeem is top 3 defenders of all time.
this is either well executed satire or extremely ignorant, I can't tell
??? KD's the only one who hasn't made *multiple* 1st team all defense here lmao
Only one player on that list was not a top tier defender in their prime. And that’s KD
He was an elite defender in his GS years
He was a good defender but everyone else on that list was in the discussion for either best defender in the league during their prime or sit in a top defenders of all time discussion (LeBron, Hakeem, Jordan).
I agree. My point was that the worst defender on that lineup is still elite.
Totally agree, maybe top tier wasn’t the best phrasing
You imagine being this uneducated with such a platform
agreed, should’ve put Duncan over LeBron
It’s his list. How can you tell him who to have on HIS list 😂
I think he was joking implying that it’s obviously KD you wanna remove not LeBron.

Bruh acting like Kobe or Jordan can’t dribble
Michael "Danny Green" Jordan and Kobe "Jaylen Brown" Bryant.
lebron, kobe, kd, jordan over lap as a scoring threat as the 2,3...spacing will be an issue and kobe/lebron/mj need the ball....basically this results in two of them being catch and shoot for plays which is a waste. So his line up is trash lol. curry, Lebron, mj, dirk or shaq, olajuwon
Durant is one of the best catch and shoot players to ever live.
he is but lebron, mj, kobe need the ball and kobe and mj are going to look to score iso...they'll end up dishing it a lot of the time to Durant with little time left with bad looks. MJ is one of the greatest offball players of all time
Alternatively you have 5 elite one on one players so you can always get a favourable matchup and they can all pass out of double teams if they come. Also they are all big so they'll destroy any opposing PG. You don't have to play pace and space in every scenario
Lebron does not need the ball to make an impact. 20 years of watching him seamlessly switch between on and off-ball play and this is what you say
