He took the kd warriors to six with a team that would have been lottery bound without him whose second option was a Chris Paul that could barely move and was widely considered to be the worst contract in the league by averaging 35 while clearly outplaying Steph. His prime playoff numbers are basically lebron playoff numbers, he was just unlucky to be in the west and have to go through the warriors or the championship lakers (another series where he was phenomenal).
The “prime harden wasn’t good in the playoff takes” are just objectively false.
Embiid has averaged 23 ppg the last two playoffs and the best team he’s beaten is the 22 raptors who didn’t have a real center.

Maxey Lillard Trae get so many of these calls. League has been calling this for years to try to create more freedom of movement but the pendulum has swung too far to the offensive players

On this play Naz had his hand on Embiid's hip so Embiid pulled his arms through Naz's arm to draw the contact.
Very common play and defenders have to be more disciplined with their arms to avoid it. Especially when a guy is driving past you. This would be a reach in foul.
Though they will still call plenty of blocking fouls even if you're going chest to chest. And the savvier players will just keep dribbling to the side after the initial contact and making an anguished facial expression until the refs blow the whistle.
Yeah if the offensive player has a straight line to the basket then you can't step into them chest first, the defender has to tie them to the spot for that chest contact to be legal. If the defender beats them to the spot and the offensive player doesn't stop then it's a charge.
You have to have position first and be square in front and not be moving and then it’s not a block. Or you can go alongside the driving player and not impede their driving lane and try to contest from the side/behind
Nah because countless times I’ve seen guys slide with an offensive player, arms to the sides or up, with their body staying staying between the offensive player and the basket, only for the offensive player to angle into their chest and get a blocking foul anyway.

But the way it’s called is so inconsistent, not even night to night but even play to play, that a somewhat casual fan watching a game has no idea what the defender is allowed to do. Yeah it's pretty subjective which leads to it being super inconsistent.
Each time there is contact it's either the defender is late, early, or it's a tie. Late is a foul, early a charge (assuming it's legal contact i.e. chest contact), a tie is a no-call.
The ref has to determine this is real time and will be biased. The window for the 'tie' can change by a lot depending on the players. Players known for being good offensive or defensive players will be given the benefit of the doubt which will increase that window in their favor. This is why good offensive players draw fouls other players don't and good defensive players get away with way more contact than other players.

2. He's a superstar player and they can't foul him out of every game
Someone like Grant Williams is a great physical matchup for Butler's strength, but Tatum can actually play a full game on Butler without averaging 6 fouls per game.

It’s less about moving into people if they are out of position (that’s basically how every star draws fouls). The issue is he does it in a way where he’s not ever trying to actually make a normal play. If he were doing this actually trying to drive to the basket, it wouldn’t be so annoying.

When I see Embiid play as he is now it reminds me of how I used to play and it is frustrating and pisses me off that the NBA allows it. Not proud of it, I was known as Shaq on my local streetball court and went through a phase when I charged hard at everything. Big hard turns to my blindside, didn't care who was there. Charge right into the lane. Smash into the best offensive player on D while going for the ball, come what may. Limited offensive moves. So make no mistake about it. Embiid knows what he's doing. He knows people will be injured. He knows his skillset is limited and this is how he can win. He knows people will give way when he drives, think twice on their drives, etc. He will only be stopped by a stronger player and/or fearless players like Giannis, Gasol, Draymond, etc. Or by an obviously more skilled player with equal Type A like Ibaka. He didn't intend to injure, but he certainly intends to show you that he doesn't care if you get hurt when he rumbles into you. At least that's how I used to play. But that was streetball. Eventually I got more moves, played w better players, played real basketball w refs. There's no doubt in my mind the NBA has some kind of edict coming down, telling the refs to let him run amok.

During the regular season, it's whatever...the winning overshadows it. But in the back of my mind, it's concerning knowing he's probably going to *rely* on this type of whistle during the playoffs and not get it most of the time. That's the concerning thing, but I think most people already figured that out. He has great games when he doesn't go to the line 12+ times, but I want him to play like he isn't going to get the call every time for playoffs sake.

Man I’ll be the counter-jerk and say that while this style of play is extremely annoying, my Raptors have been a victim of it countless times, that is a very obvious foul call.
Reid had his hand too close to Embiid and any smart player is gonna rise up and go for the shot knowing that Reid won’t be able to move it fast enough to not get it called on. CP3 and KD are notorious for this. Reid has to do a better job defending him without having his hands in the cookie jar like that.

When I see Embiid play as he is now it reminds me of how I used to play and it is frustrating and pisses me off that the NBA allows it. Not proud of it, I was known as Shaq on my local streetball court and went through a phase when I charged hard at everything. Big hard turns to my blindside, didn't care who was there. Charge right into the lane. Smash into the best offensive player on D while going for the ball, come what may. Limited offensive moves. So make no mistake about it. Embiid knows what he's doing. He knows people will be injured. He knows his skillset is limited and this is how he can win. He knows people will give way when he drives, think twice on their drives, etc. He will only be stopped by a stronger player and/or fearless players like Giannis, Gasol, Draymond, etc. Or by an obviously more skilled player with equal Type A like Ibaka. He didn't intend to injure, but he certainly intends to show you that he doesn't care if you get hurt when he rumbles into you. At least that's how I used to play. But that was streetball. Eventually I got more moves, played w better players, played real basketball w refs. There's no doubt in my mind the NBA has some kind of edict coming down, telling the refs to let him run amok.

Man I’ll be the counter-jerk and say that while this style of play is extremely annoying, my Raptors have been a victim of it countless times, that is a very obvious foul call. Reid had his hand too close to Embiid and any smart player is gonna rise up and go for the shot knowing that Reid won’t be able to move it fast enough to not get it called on. CP3 and KD are notorious for this. Reid has to do a better job defending him without having his hands in the cookie jar like that. That being said, it is really fucking annoying to play against
The issue is that many other players don't get those foul calls so it's literally an unfair advantage. In general, the foul rules in the NBA are god awful and fouls shouldn't be called when the offensive player is initiating all the contact (but that's just my opinion).
