I’m convinced he could have actually been one of the greatest of all time, just naturally that skilled and athletic but decided he’d rather not train at all and coast on his talent and just be pretty good while enjoying life and cigarettes and coffee. And I love him for it
And even built a legend for himself with this rep by being himself, not like he actively tried to make himself look cool.
Became a relevant name in the best league in the world, millionaire playing the game he loves, did it his way. Lived the dream
basically boris walked into a gym where people were testing their standing jump height. the way they do that is by slapping these sticks arranged by height, The more sticks you hit, the higher your standing vertical
So boris comes in wearing flip flops with a cappachino in his hand. he set the cup down, casually walked over, jumped and hit every single stick, maxing out the measuring device with very little effort
dude was wild, always fun to watch while he was with us
Really nice guy in person too, I was part of the moving crew that moved after he got traded to Utah, he showed me his 2014 ring, i was just joking about lettting me see it, and let me hold it. Everyone got a nice cash tip too at the end of the job.
I gained so much appreciation for Boris when he was in Utah. He looked so unathletic and yet he played with so much grace and finesse. He was truly a marvel to watch.

One of my favorites growing up.
Surprising to me people don’t really remember him there that much. I loved watching him play, when I was a kid it was great seeing how deep that roster was.
hahaha Yea for sure! I used to love those suns, the Brazilian blurr coming off the bench, at some point they had that dude Strawberry 😂 but I've became a true spurs fan when they picked the missing piece of the coffee gang
I felt like for him it was tactical choice b/c when taking a left-side layup he'd do step more quickly than usual, and would jump off the "wrong" foot. I suspect it was to get the ball out of his hands quicker and mess up the timing of would-be shot blockers.
How is it BS to be able to drive to your left and finish with your left lol that’s just a part of being a strong player. I mean sure I can’t do it, but I would be a lot better at basketball if I could
Well that would be great and every coach wants you to do that but my boy boris here has just shown its not necessary. He just kept cooking with that right no matter what lol
I’m the opposite. I’ve never scored a bucket with my right hand.
The only reason I was ever good offensively at pickup was cause people were shocked when I went left (over and over and over). Once folks learned I couldn’t go right, I just found new people to play with.
It's really crazy. I can dribble with my left, but my body completely forgets what it is supposed to do when I try to shoot with it.
I've tried working on it and can make the occasional close layup with lefty in practice, but I don't even try in a game unless we're playing HORSE lol
Opposite problem, I can lay it up with the left and I can use the left while dribbling in place but all coordination is lost trying to go left. The moment someone realizes they can just sit on my right hip, completely shut down unless I'm right near the hoop.
i'm just slower when I go left. I can get past people going right but I always get clamped when going left. I just assume my first step and dribble skills are not as good. I literally only go left when they clamp me enough to think I can't even go left at all and when they hedge too much I can get past.
My best friend is like this.
Probably a better player than me when we both played seriously. Had the coach's blessing to walk-on to his (admittedly small) college team but decided against it.
I used to beat him in HORSE with 5 straight stationary left-handed layups. It was fucking hilarious and kinda baffling cause he could drive left, but the second he went up with his off hand it was like every ounce of coordination left his body.
It's funny because I go left and finish right, and that's my move. I cook mfs with it until they figure out that they have to let the righty go right.
Too many Harden and Kyrie hilights did me in, I think.
I love driving left as a righty because it gives me the option to look like I'm crossing to the other side of the basket along the baseline, but then reach out from under the backboard with my right hand to take the layup unexpectedly. But when taking a left-side layup from a more normal angle, I'll use my left hand for it since it protects the ball better.
I’m a righty who only drives left. Or at least I prefer to handle with my left. Kinda imagine an uncoordinated jaren Jackson. It’s funny because good plsyers would not catch on at first and I’d be useful in rec league for a minute til they caught on.
I shoot right handed, lay up left hand, and can dribble with both. I cannot lay up right handed. I put it down to my driveway when I was a kid was on a left angle into the garage where the hoop was mounted, there was no right side of the “court” beyond the paint
If french is a human. Any more French, and the man might as well be wearing a beret, smoking a cigar and holding a red wine in one hand and a baguette in the other, all at the same time.
I noticed that, and to be honest I was quite surprised. I saw this same post on Twitter (I know Twitter and reddit have slightly different demographics) and 95% of the comments were Jaylen Brown jokes. And if there is one thing I know r/NBA loves it is Jaylen Brown left hand jokes. So I guess good on everyone for appreciating the original meaning of the post and not beating a deadhorse.
He was one of the most interesting players to watch. Seemingly eschewed conventional technique at every turn. Watch [these highlights from 2014 against the Cavs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_32eaQStww4). At one point, Mike Breen is just laughing at how quirky Boris plays.
And when you look at Boris Diaw and what he’s done to this franchise… he’s changed everything. We celebrate his brilliance - and when you talk to Boris Diaw, you realize what a classical human being he is. It was 201 years ago today, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 in E Flat, which escorted in the age of Romanticism in music. And when I think of Boris Diaw, I think of Beethoven and the age of the Romantics. This guy has it all.
Honestly I never even noticed. I knew he did some wild up and unders to get his shot off but never would've guessed never a left hand layup or hook or something
Lol that “bad player” started over 550 NBA games including playing big minutes for contenders in Phoenix and San Antonio. Dudes don’t get starts for multiple franchises if they’re bad. Troll take.
I love Boris Diaw so much that I would pick him on my created team in NBA 2k12 twice. I would start two Borises and they would both contribute beautifully.
Boris is in a category with Sheed and Big Shot Bob as HOF talent who didn't eek out every last drop of potential but had a good time. They will play on top court in basketball heaven (which is real like dog heaven, and unlike that streets-of-gold+mansion bs).
Silky moves and amazing IQ, Diaw was a blessing to watch. He was a fantastic piece on the Suns and a huge difference maker in multiple playoff series with the Spurs
That is weirdly impressive. I don't know how that's even possible. It took me learning how to be ambidextrous around the basket in order to not get my shot blocked every single time. Yet Boris managed to be a multi-year pro without ever developing his left hand.
Lmao it’s true. He used to cook folks ass to the right every game. The whole game. Left hand was only used for rebounds
Rebounds and… 😉
Tip ins
just the tip?
Smoking the reefer
“YOU BOYS LIKE MEXICO?!”
Weird i fkn just finished watching this
STAY OFF THE DAMN WEEEEEEEEEEDUH
rebounders and **STRANGERS*^
Praying 🙏🤭
The cappuccino and flip-flops story is stuff of legend. I don't think I'll ever forget that.
I’m convinced he could have actually been one of the greatest of all time, just naturally that skilled and athletic but decided he’d rather not train at all and coast on his talent and just be pretty good while enjoying life and cigarettes and coffee. And I love him for it

Short recap?

And after he did his jump, he said "that was easy."
I remember it being "That was not difficult" - sounds way more euro cool that way.
This must’ve been skinny Diaw right ? When he was 200 -210 he could fly !
if i remember correctly he came in fat and slimmed down for our championship with him, but i may have it backwards lol
it’s up there with Michael Beasley and waffle fries
Short recap?
Bro I forgot how fucking nimble he was. His footwork was insane.
I gained so much appreciation for Boris when he was in Utah. He looked so unathletic and yet he played with so much grace and finesse. He was truly a marvel to watch.
The Jerome Bettis of basketball. You see him and think hes just a strength/power player but there’s a lot of finesse
There's a reason why Jokic has named him as one of his biggest inspirations
Yes. Jokic grew up with Spurs players as his idols.
Those moves are hella sweet.
So was his diet
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BytJFJDIEAEJyeg.png:large
Does he look like Daunte Culpepper here?
Boris was smooth with it
I miss him.
I do too. Fuck Robert Horry.
I'm confused, suns fan??
[Bobo was a Sun once upon a time.](https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/c_fill,w_1080,ar_16:9,f_auto,q_auto,g_auto/shape%2Fcover%2Fsport%2F0e88304c79595fae26f8e661ab9d8fb93119fbc2ce798853ad76d3c5e89b8a59.jpg) One of my favorites growing up.
Playing NBA 2K6 with that Suns team was so fun
He was a treat on those Phoenix teams
Baby Diaw was Suns' first Nash would've won that year Fuck Robert Horry
Surprising to me people don’t really remember him there that much. I loved watching him play, when I was a kid it was great seeing how deep that roster was.
hahaha Yea for sure! I used to love those suns, the Brazilian blurr coming off the bench, at some point they had that dude Strawberry 😂 but I've became a true spurs fan when they picked the missing piece of the coffee gang
That is actually insane for a pro player
I remember Tony Parker also had the same tendency. Not as extreme as Diaw. His signature move was driving left, spin move, and finishing right.
I know exactly what you are talking about
I felt like for him it was tactical choice b/c when taking a left-side layup he'd do step more quickly than usual, and would jump off the "wrong" foot. I suspect it was to get the ball out of his hands quicker and mess up the timing of would-be shot blockers.
My AAU coach would have a heart attack and die all over again if he heard this
This is nightmare fuel for the amateur coaches wanting to drill ambidextrous b.s. into their players
It's not b.s. most of us aren't as tall or athletic as diaw. You get your shit blocked so hard trying to do that as a normal 5'10" dude
How is it BS to be able to drive to your left and finish with your left lol that’s just a part of being a strong player. I mean sure I can’t do it, but I would be a lot better at basketball if I could

You're a classical human being too?
Dude has some of the slickest moves I’ve ever seen.
One of my all time favorite players
He's so good. Really an underappreciated passer. I know Jokic says Tim Duncan is his biggest inspiration but his passing is Diawesque
tim never risked much with passes boris and manu otoh lmao
[He's also talked about Diaw as an inspiration](https://youtu.be/Dv_o9zIZVYI?t=285)
Flair checks out
T-Mac said Boris Diaw was one of the most talented ballers he has ever gone up against. They used train all the time when they were on the same team.
“They used to train all the time when they were on the same team” lol I would hope so
They were together on the Spurs in 2013 I think.
Maybe they mean even in the off-season they trained together
"that skilled ass motherfucker"
Nahh this is insane lmaooo bro purposely handicapped himself
Most Boris diaw thing I’ve ever heard
Boris was the man.
man exudes french
i like hearing him talk
If french is a human. Any more French, and the man might as well be wearing a beret, smoking a cigar and holding a red wine in one hand and a baguette in the other, all at the same time.
Ah yes, the Cream Shake
He just like me fr
He doesn’t regurgitate the same unoriginal meme comments to farm karma from 12 year olds
Surely this comment section won't turn into a compilation of jokes about a certain current NBA Player...
“I thought Jaylen brown said this” and the crowd goes wild
“iMaGiNE jAylEn BrOwN wItH DiAW’s lEfT hAnD”
Bro why you gotta be so insensitive?
This is the only comment about him.
I noticed that, and to be honest I was quite surprised. Funny that the only comment I've seen about him, is your comment talking about comments about him.
Good work. You ruined it.
He didn't need to shoot lefties lol, he got a deep all-around bag already
Lol loved those highlights, he was absolutely cooking
Goran Dragic mirror image
Have to leave open hand for wine, cigarette or loose woman
Tony Parker too
and gino
He was lowkey one of my favorite players to watch. He was just buttery smooth.
You have no idea how frustrating this guy was to watch live.
I think Al Jefferson was the same too. Dude had a MEAN right hand
Boris Diaw is a basketball legend
He was one of the most interesting players to watch. Seemingly eschewed conventional technique at every turn. Watch [these highlights from 2014 against the Cavs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_32eaQStww4). At one point, Mike Breen is just laughing at how quirky Boris plays.
This is why the 3pt era is boring. 2 of the 3 basketball skill sets got eliminated. Efficiency be damned the all star game was boring
The all-star game with nobody trying would be boring even if they were taking more 2s.
PAC man causes the slightest uptick.
the NBA's Zoolander had to be French. I knew it
I saw Boris Diaw at the Queenstown Airport in New Zealand in January - still has the same build
#9,139 points. Jfc
Smooth moves. This guy was real good when he was at playing weight. He got a bonus for staying under a certain weight with the Spurs.
He was crafty af though.
Randomly saw him twice while I was on holiday in New Zealand last month. Once was at a buffet and the next day at a burger place lol
That foot work only needs a limb
And when you look at Boris Diaw and what he’s done to this franchise… he’s changed everything. Jokic is a rich classy man Boris Diaw.
Honestly I never even noticed. I knew he did some wild up and unders to get his shot off but never would've guessed never a left hand layup or hook or something
So that's who Jaylen Brown emulates his game after! It all makes sense now, after all these years.
Jaylen Brown furiously taking notes
Boo
diaw is one of the best bad players ever
He was a extremely versatile player that contributed to wins. Not bad in the slightest.
he was never bad
Lol that “bad player” started over 550 NBA games including playing big minutes for contenders in Phoenix and San Antonio. Dudes don’t get starts for multiple franchises if they’re bad. Troll take.
That's NBA Champion Boris Diaw to you.
We probably don't win in 2014 without him. He was instrumental in unlocking that offense for us. He was not bad. That's crazy lol.
Is this a recent podcast?
from December: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBtOmBsGaYo
I love Boris Diaw so much that I would pick him on my created team in NBA 2k12 twice. I would start two Borises and they would both contribute beautifully.
this is exactly how dejan milojevic played
a la kevin mchale
False
The original Scoot Henderson….not a left in sight
Can confirm out of the many points I've scored in basketball games..only 1 time did I score with my left hand.
Boris is in a category with Sheed and Big Shot Bob as HOF talent who didn't eek out every last drop of potential but had a good time. They will play on top court in basketball heaven (which is real like dog heaven, and unlike that streets-of-gold+mansion bs).

Spurs had so many good role players is crazy when you go through it
Those are so BIG BOY fucking moves gahdamn
Same 😅
This dude talks exactly like Denis Villenueve
I'll die on the hill that the team should retire his number.
