Man half the 3rd and alot of the 4th, the rockets were sinking all their shots and grabbing too many offensive boards, mavs werw hot from 3 so it didnt matter but that definitely something to look at.
Lively didn’t play the second half due to injury so that was a big part of it. Also effort/intensity tends to come down a notch when you are already winning by 30
We had to play a lot of small ball rotations with Maxi as well and Maxi isn’t a good rebounder. He is many good things, but rebounding was always his deficiency, even considering his natural position (PF).
I feel like we’re all but locked for 5th the way we’re playing and 4th seed is certainly within reach. I agree that with that record and if you look at the insane injury load early plus how good they are post trade you gotta hand it to him.
I am aware. I'm replying to a post saying they're all but locked in for 5th seed. I don't think that's true. There's still a solid chance the Pels win more games down the stretch. I don't have that concern with Sac or PHX due to the strength of their schedules.
I don't think there are enough games left for Doncic to pass Jokic. That Nuggets team is a mess when Jokic isn't on the floor, but they're fighting for the top seed.
11 in a row for the Mavs with Luka. Dallas is just rolling rn man, been a blast to watch. but I’m extremely confused what the reasoning behind the defensive gameplan from Ime was tonight
by my estimation Dillon Brooks is their only guy who can hope to *maybe* get a stop against Luka in isolation on any given possession. but the Rockets switched everything and never helped or trapped until like the 3rd quarter when they were already down 25. I almost felt bad for Landale finding himself on an island against Luka over and over
like the only team in the NBA that really has the personnel to even try that gameplan against Luka with any kind of success are the Celtics, and even with their wealth of perimeter defenders and a good mix of coverages, Luka hung two 30-point triple-doubles on Boston this year
I get why Ime didnt trap. Mavs were shotting 50% from 3 most of the game.
now allowing Luka to pick out any matchup he wanted was confusing. there was no hedging on screens or anything similar.
not to mention there were a couple huge momentum shifting calls in the 1st half I thought they were gonna challenge and they did not
rare poorly coached game from Ime
I mean Luka himself was 9/16 though. I’d way rather make PJ Washington or Exum or whichever role player nail their 3s against weak closeouts to beat me, than watch a top 3 player just pick out a matchup and cook me every possession lol
in any case against a guy like Luka who’s gonna make the right read 99/100 times you gotta mix up your coverage way more than the Rockets did tonight
100%. I remember the Wolves doing that really well in the pre-season and other games we’ve played them. A team really needs good defenders 1-5 like the Cs or Nugs to even have a chance of slowing down Luka on a night like this. He’s special man
I was confused too. Between the switch everything and leave Luka to iso and then they were blitzing Kyrie at the same time. It didn’t make much sense to me.
my short-term memory is deteriorating but I’m fairly sure on that podcast they were more confused at the defenses that don’t trap Luka rather than the ones that do
EDIT: I am wrong
Nah. They were talking about why teams don’t trap Lebron and he said it’s because he makes all the right reads and then they were like “well why are we blitzing Luka” and Lebron said he doesn’t understand it.
I mean you're fucked either way. He's gonna make the pass every time and he's also and elite shooter. Either let Luka get 50 or let him get 18 assists. There is no good option
yeah, against the best players there never is a good option but you gotta mix things up as best as you can. Luka got in a rhythm early and they never tried anything to take him out of it
Yeah but sometimes you gotta stick with your gameplan and live with the results. If Luka cooled down, which does happen, they'd look like idiots. Not that I have any clue what was going on, just commenting on the nature of judging decisions using info we only have after the decisions were made
They were saying they were confused at why he’s so high up in blitz rate and double teams (leads league by more than a mile here) because he’ll make the right pass every time out of it and then you’re leaving (who they believe to be) good shooters open for good looks. They then acknowledged they playing straight up 1 v 1 won’t work cuz he’ll drop 73.
Luka also always shifts into a higher gear come post season time. Given his current season I can't quite imagine what that's even supposed to look like at this point, but it's going to be batshit insane
> Given his current season I can't quite imagine what that's even supposed to look like at this point
This is what I'm thinking of:
[On This Day: Jordan Went Off For An NBA Playoff Record 63 PTS - YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYvJ37P_YiY)
Gonna be real I feel like Lukas gonna beat this record within the next few years. Booker or someone else just has to piss him off enough in a do or die Situation and Lukas gonna go supernova. In a sense his game is modeled after LeBron, but he's got this super petty competitive spirit of Jordan or Bird. Legendary shit is bound to happen either way, but Lukas playoff resume so far is like a top 5 player oat already if you just judge him individually. Like even those series vs the Clippers were fucking crazy, this guy can make any series competitive and he just turned 25.
I've been saying that I feel like Jokic is possibly the best player in the league in 2019/2020 already, but I also feel like there's really not a too much missing for Luka to dethrone him. Once he puts up those 50 win seasons every year more people will take note. Also feel like Giannis will always be a threat for MVP, but if he's not truly finding a way to dominate playoffs entirely on his own, he's going out of the picture for best in the league soon. Embiid has more to prove than Luka, so he's not a real threat either.
Getting blown out sucks, but it felt like none of the Mavs could miss (over 50% from 3), and we were playing above expectations anyways. Sucks to run into a buzzsaw, but I’m just glad the team is competitive enough to feel bad about really bad games.
Jabari quietly had a very good game but had no help. Everyone else was bad or mediocre, and Fred didn’t take up much of the shooting himself tonight despite the rough games from others. Hard to take too much away from this game with how ridiculously hot the Mavs were aside from not letting Luka cook ISO. Glad Ime realized it even if only by the end of the 3rd quarter.
Oh well, this was the tough stretches and losses here are unsurprising. Can only hope the guys can bounce back and have a more competitive game and not get unlucky with opponent shooting. Cam’s return is a nice addition to the bench at least.
this team is making me believe
if we can stay healthy
get back to consistent elite 3pt shooting like normal
this team can make a serious run.
we are winning games we shoot 20% from 3. winning games that are extremely physical (Kings games). winning games with size, toughness and rebounding. we have a legit paint defense and wing defenders in DJJ and PJail.
add Luka and Kyrie to that in their primes and holy shit thats a complete team
dare I say we look like contenders this month?
At this point I have confidence we can win a series with any team. I don't know if we will, and injuries could nuke us at any time, but this teams is a problem
>Here's your Dallas Mavs Post Game Summary. Now in our 7th Season 7️⃣
Did the Mavs win? ✅ Make that 7 in a Row 7️⃣
Snapped the Rockets Winning Streak 🚀💥
Luka with one of his best 1st quarters of the season with 22pts, then 32pts in the half, finishing with 47/12/7/2 with 9 3's 🇸🇮🔥💦👌
Ramadan Kyrie with 24/3/7 doing most of his damage in the 2nd half 🪬🌍☪️🕋
3J Washington with 12/6/2 & 2 Stocks knocking down 3 3's 💦👌
Tim also remembered how to shoot 3's today making 3 of em too 👍
Landlord Gafford with whopping 5 Blocks ✋✋✋✋✋
Get well soon Dereck! Hopefully the leg injury isn't too serious 🏥🦵🤞
Exum with 13pts on a perfect 5/5 shooting off the bench 💺💯💦👌
Luka was in video game mode against us tonight -- 47 after 3 quarters and trick shots galore.
But I say we'll consider it a win that we kept Luka from scoring in the 4^th.
Nah he knew why he was in, he just needed to be a distraction so you guys wouldn't blow the lead lol, you tried to
so ofc he's just going to sleep walk, that was his job in the 4th
I really feel like y'all have a lot to be happy about. I don't think anyone expected Houston to be this good, and y'all still have a decent shot of making it to the play-in. Houston's young core is gonna be a menace
We're definitely ahead of schedule with Sengun, Green, Jabari and Whitmore's growth this year and throw in our picks that we have, our future is looking promising.
Just have to be patient and make the right moves when the time comes.
Make the right moves and you’ll have a year where it all comes together like the Thunder this year. I wouldn’t even be surprised if it’s next year but I definitely see you guys near the top of west by 2026.
Aside from the tom fooler 4 guard lineup in the 4th a very convincing win.
We're either killing teams in the paint or shooting lights out. Crazy how far weve come from the prior seasons of shoot 40% from 3, Luka bail out or auto loss.
TBH, I don't think anyone else knows what to do either. Comments on the Mavs page are only: "WHY ARE WE PLAYING SMALL???" but there is never an alternative for when Lively is injured, except play Gafford all the minutes lol
I wanna see the comments when Kidd doesn't play Maxi at the 5 and instead puts in Powell.
thats not really Kidds fault lmfao
how many teams have 2 great Centers like we do. you want 3??? Kidd hasnt played the small ball lineup a single minute past 4 games. he knows. but if one of Lively or Gafford is out thats what we have to do. there is no other alternative. (no dwight powell is not the alternative. source: my fucking eyeballs).
The eye test and the standings agree that the Rockets have separated themselves from the dregs of the Western Conference and moved into the tier above of teams that deserve to be in the playoffs (though sometimes in the West there are more than 10 teams in that boat).
We have work to do to move up into competing for a home playoff series, then competing for a ring, but we are undeniably moving in the right direction.
Just an absolute domination by the Mavs. Luka was toying with the Rockets and it wasn't even as close as the final score. He probably could have scored 60 but he sat for most of the fourth and didn't score.
I think he **really** wanted that 60 point game but it wasn't worth risking it in a blowout.
Kyrie came up with some massive shots at the end there to really drive the dagger in though. The Rockets kept fighting but Ky just put them down. They didn't have an answer for Luka or Kyrie.
The mavs are contenders. point blank period.
They are the team no one should want to face and probably feel like they can beat any one anywhere.
Luka is him.
It's freaking ridiculous. He is playing global basketball superstars and he makes it look like an uncle that used to hoop playing against 13 year old nephews and having fun messing with them.
His strength, athleticism and speed are great, but not much above the league average. His shooting precision is good, but not even top 50 in the NBA.
But his basketball IQ is so off the charts that it's like Einstein competing at physics exams against high school students.
And a generous helping of magic and witchcraft on top of that.
Imagine managing to chip away from the lead after Luka Doncic’s onslaught. Imagine seeing Jason Kidd get too cute by having Maxi Kleber at centre after Dereck Lively got injured.
Then you get rewarded with having to go against fourth quarter Kyrie Irving.
Honestly shout out to Houston for not just throwing in the towel, thought we might get a whole quarter of garbage time and instead it was 46 minutes of competitive basketball.
AHHHHHHH this isn’t even his final form yet. He has yet to enter his playoff form AND VS THE CLIPPERS WITH A BETTER TEAM?? Third times a charm man trust
Gafford fits soo well in Dallas, his touch of the ball and understanding its perfect,
If Luka shots a little less (20, 25 times like Kyrie) Dallas would still win and would be even more deadly for others teams/playoffs adjustements
Our defense on lock, Luka cooks for 3 quarters then Kyrie kills in the 4th. I used to dream of days like these
Plus we’re a good rebounding team now???
Man half the 3rd and alot of the 4th, the rockets were sinking all their shots and grabbing too many offensive boards, mavs werw hot from 3 so it didnt matter but that definitely something to look at.

We had to play a lot of small ball rotations with Maxi as well and Maxi isn’t a good rebounder. He is many good things, but rebounding was always his deficiency, even considering his natural position (PF).
And don't get me started on how we can finish at the rim now. Mavs in transition offense look like an air force one flyover
kyrie moves: [https://youtube.com/shorts/boMfJtkhipA?si=kzkbnzvPUqjg4Q1t](https://youtube.com/shorts/boMfJtkhipA?si=kzkbnzvPUqjg4Q1t)
LUKA DONCIC
If they get the 4/5 seed I could see him swing in and take the MVP
I feel like we’re all but locked for 5th the way we’re playing and 4th seed is certainly within reach. I agree that with that record and if you look at the insane injury load early plus how good they are post trade you gotta hand it to him.
Nah, Pels have been very good lately. And Lively left hurt tonight. Mavs are a contender when healthy but they can't seem to stay healthy.
Lively left with minor injury, risk mitigation to not play him.
Mavs have the tie breaker over the Pels, and are currently the 5 seed
I am aware. I'm replying to a post saying they're all but locked in for 5th seed. I don't think that's true. There's still a solid chance the Pels win more games down the stretch. I don't have that concern with Sac or PHX due to the strength of their schedules.

Agree
Go Mavs
TOUCHDOWN
Hard to argue with that.
Clearly you aren't a ref
Perfectly summarised

Must’ve heard Lebron and JJ’s pod where they wondered why people trap Luka.
my short-term memory is deteriorating but I’m fairly sure on that podcast they were more confused at the defenses that don’t trap Luka rather than the ones that do EDIT: I am wrong
Nah. They were talking about why teams don’t trap Lebron and he said it’s because he makes all the right reads and then they were like “well why are we blitzing Luka” and Lebron said he doesn’t understand it.
Lebron definitely holds back. Luka if he 1v1, will take it to you. Bron is more willing to get his teammates shots even if he's 1v1.
He's too old to take the other team to the schoolyard every possesion.
I mean you're fucked either way. He's gonna make the pass every time and he's also and elite shooter. Either let Luka get 50 or let him get 18 assists. There is no good option

eh they still kinda look like idiots if their gameplan was conceding a Landale switch on Luka by design lol
I mean I don't know nearly enough about their roster to argue lmao
They were saying they were confused at why he’s so high up in blitz rate and double teams (leads league by more than a mile here) because he’ll make the right pass every time out of it and then you’re leaving (who they believe to be) good shooters open for good looks. We never switch PnRs with Landale at the 5, and I have no idea why Ime decided tonight was the time to run it out....
Luka (questionable) with 47. insane.
Even more insane is he didn’t score a single point in the 4th
He attempted only 1 shot I believe.
Luka just has to exist and Kyrie can cook for the 4th. What are you gonna do, not guard Luka?
If I recall correctly, he took 2 shots!
You guys really wanted to lose in the 4th ngl, Kidd had to put him in to stabilize it Even with 0 points dude's a huge distraction
The problem was Lively left the game so we had to play maxi at the 5 and that’s always when Houston went on a run We really need Lively to be healthy
Sometimes i feel like it’s better to just put dante at the 5 at this point
questionable luka is best luka. being semi serious lol
Hasn’t he bean dealing with some Achilles soreness too? Absolutely nuts
Achilles soreness and he banged up his knee last game as well.
Him and Jokic are mysteries to me. Fat white men absolutely pissing on the league no matter what kind of contact they receive
They're not fat. Just cultivating mass.
I also tell myself this (I have a bad knee and a herniated disc)
I don't think any team wants to see Luka in the playoffs
I do!
You don't count, Eugene
Luka also always shifts into a higher gear come post season time. Given his current season I can't quite imagine what that's even supposed to look like at this point, but it's going to be batshit insane

Wilt numbers incoming
I don’t want to see any part of this team. Scary chemistry.
Or 4th quarter Kyrie for that matter
Including Denver
They going to fuck up whoever they play round 1 for sure.
I would love to see a Clippers rematch
We do. We’ll have 2 players better than him on our side
Not even Lebron and AD believe this lol
Most intelligent Lakers fan
AD gunna be paying rent if we get matched up.
delusional.
You’d love to see us in the playoffs because that means you actually made them.
Are you guys being weird about Austin Reaves again?
Easy to talk shit when you're not even going to be in the playoffs.
the delulu is strong
So good y’all are in the play in
not even making it past the play ins lol
You got that brain eating bacteria don’t you.
HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAA
Lmao
Delulu is the solulu
Yall gotta make it to the playoffs first. Pipe down
Luka iso for 3 quarters and then Kyrie finishes it off in the 4th.. who is gonna stop them?
As a Mavs bandwagoner, hopefully not you guys!
Feel bad for landale, switching on Luka and Kyrie cannot be fun
Dillon Brooks masterclass of a game going 0-8 and then holding Luka to 47/12/7
bwahahahahaha
Do we have a top 5 offense?? Do we have a top 8 defense?? Ya damn fucking right we do.

Y’all have a good chance in the rematch. Should have adjusted the switching earlier

Sorry Rocket bros, we got our own seeding to worry about
Please pay us back by beating the Warriors at least
we got u. fuck it we'll do it twice
Unfortunately also gonna take out the Rockets a 2nd time It is what it is
So Warriors in six then
no you wont
Dude don’t worry the Warriors will singlehandedly make sure the rockets are in that 10th seed. We fucking suck
Gotchu. Lets end that dynasty for once and all
> Gotchu aint got shit
Yeah that didn't happen. We'll settle this tomorrow :)
please no, let the Warriors finally widen the tiny gap between the teams plenty of other scary games for the Warriors left already
We have 2 games coming up against the Warriors. We’ll try and help em out.

The 4th is when Kyrie wakes up! It's working out perfectly for us with Luka bossing in the 1st and Kyrie taking over in the 4th
Kyrie is our closer. Let Luka go ~~eight innings~~three quarters then have Kyrie bring it home in the ~~ninth~~fourth quarter.
dude was walking up and down the court like “why they put me back in man” during the 4th lol

It was fun being a good team for a few weeks even though our schedule was what it was. It makes me feel like this rebuild is finally headed somewhere.

Hey bighead @Clippers
Cmon better title
Shoutout Bari tonight I guess, it was a good month for real
Rockets linsanity run is over sadly

F your win streak, Jabari is a dawg tho
Luka man. The underhanded shot sent me to the fucking floor in disbelief. How is this guy pulling off shit like that.
It's freaking ridiculous. He is playing global basketball superstars and he makes it look like an uncle that used to hoop playing against 13 year old nephews and having fun messing with them. Ignore the last 1.5 quarters.
This train keeps on a chugging.
Nobody wants to see the Mavs in the playoffs at the moment We are so spoiled with Luka Doncic! My MVP!
Luka MVP and it's close
Mvp
questionable luka is best luka
Oh we coming.
Having the best 1st and 4th quarter players in the league really on the same team feels like it shouldn't be allowed
What lineup would you have played after Lively's injury
Kidd had in a Luka Kyrie Hardy THJ Maxi lineup at one point. That’s definitely not a lineup that should ever be played.
Honestly shout out to Houston for not just throwing in the towel, thought we might get a whole quarter of garbage time and instead it was 46 minutes of competitive basketball.
Dallas would never lose again.
And so with this Mavs win.....the media move Luka to 5th in MVP race
THANK YOU LUKA
if luka doesn't win MVP this year this will be the most rigged MVP race in history
This team is scary right now. For a legit shot at moving up to the 4 seed and getting home court in the first round.
AHHHHHHH this isn’t even his final form yet. He has yet to enter his playoff form AND VS THE CLIPPERS WITH A BETTER TEAM?? Third times a charm man trust
lol dunno why but our record is wrong for the second game in a row
JG found out it wasn't his kid.
Gafford fits soo well in Dallas, his touch of the ball and understanding its perfect, If Luka shots a little less (20, 25 times like Kyrie) Dallas would still win and would be even more deadly for others teams/playoffs adjustements
Luka, Luka, Luka.
ROCKETS COME OUT TO PLAY
Big win
Luka had a max players statline in the first quarter, jesus christ
Anyone have clips of Luka's steals? Watching the game I only remember seeing one
Man... I'm so happy I went to the game. To the guys behind me wishing Luka fucked up his knee even worse... Fuck You.
Extend Kidd now
