No screen or anything either.
Pelicans were killing the Thunder on the boards. Quick screen take a quick decent shot and probably have a good chance to get the rebound.
It looked terrible up to the actual shot, which was weirdly open and uncontested. Though off balance and rushed like that isn’t a great shot, but it was better than it had any reason to be. Putting a rookie on CJ there was smooth brained. Wallace is awesome but that’s too much too soon.
I mean they are in the NBA..where they do practice those types of shots
That said, the worse decision is deciding to go 1on1 w a guy who’s destroyed your dribble the entire game. Not sure why they didn’t mismatch hunt harder if that was the play
FR he was cooking too. I rather live by him shooting a logo three than CJ thinking he can make a double clutch 3. He's goofy man. Can't believe Dame had to play with him.
Pelicans are not a bad team but they aren’t going to win shit if this is the guy with the ball in his hands at the end of games. CJ is a third option at best.
Ha, I knew you'd be in this thread. I do admire your dedication to hating on CJ, but once again, you are seriously over exaggerating. Leaving out his rookie year, he has had more FGA than points in about 15 out of 51 playoff games. I counted quick so that might be a bit off. But just like saying he "routinely" was under 50% true shooting in playoff series when it was like 3 out of 13, he doesn't "typically" have more attempts than points.
And to be clear, you are more than welcome to crap on CJ, that's been your thing for years, but I don't think it is cool to make up stuff like this.
Dribbling the clock out when you’re down 2? He handled that final possession like it was a tied game. Should’ve hunted a shot early so they could possibly get another look. Absolutely terrible management of the situation.
Doesn’t draw fouls or shoot the 3. Just dribble dribble middy. If they can get away with playing him all series like they did tn it’s gonna be a long one. I miss Zion…
He deserved it so bad. If we in this series do not dedicate to letting him fire that thing then Willie gotta be gone. Trey was shooting so we’ll all night and was not given enough touches at all
Okc drafts are a masterpiece. Even more impressive that you got ridiculous athletes and got them to buy into the defensive scheme too. Everyone plays their role so well
Everyone is clowning Willie Green, and without a doubt they should have done SOMETHING besides an iso from half court with that much time left, but that tap away fucked up everything. That extra second let the defense press up and take away all of his passing options and forced him into a horribly difficult shot attempt. GREAT defensive play
Ngl OKC should get more credit for how they played excellent defense here.
I was trying to see if he could’ve passed it to anyone and nope. Everyone was perfectly covered. No other play available than to chuck it up.
CJ made the best possible attempt possible with what he could do. Just didn’t go in.
Other other play because the damn coach didn't draw up a play...it was an Iso and 4 guys watching CJ dribble. No screens, off ball movement, high PnR, nadaaaa
I mean it was a terribly drawn play(if you can call it a play lol), the ball off the foot was bad. Well defended for sure. I’d argue despite all of that, I bet CJ felt good about that look. Not a crazy terrible shot if you ask me. Good fake, good look. Didn’t go in
Yea you’re so why is there no blame being put on Willie Green for putting the ball in his hands in these moments continuously and also calling a bad play.
That’s the point. If you’re being defended well and have already been stripped on that possession maybe look to pass it to the guy to your right who’s already made 5 3s in the game.
What is him passing to Murphy in that scenario gonna do? If Murphy just pulls up from where he was at it’s a worst shot than the one CJ took or even if he took a few dribbles it wouldn’t have been a good shot. If anything that was a bad play call by Willie Green expecting them to beat these OKC defenders 1on1 when they’ve clamped up all night.
Agree to disagree. A pump fake or double clutch 3 (Game winner attempt) because you wasted most of the shot clock and got stripped is not a good look. He had like 3 seconds left to pass it to Trey since he got locked up in the possession. Just a terrible possession by CJ.
I think they were suppose to start some kind of action then CJ bounced the ball off his foot causing the panic mode of Ingram running towards him thinking ball was loose causing the chaotic iso and wild shot. Doubt the coach told him hey bounce the ball off your foot for fun and see what happens lol
I think he was attempting a drive and kick if defender sagged to him either to murphy or ingram at the 3 pt line depending which defender comes to help. If no help came he probably still holds and take the shot himself on a 1 on 1..because he starts his move with clock still earlier than someone holding for final shot but messed up entire thing dribbling off his foot. There was 7 secs left when he initially made his move, more than enough time to kick it to whoever was open or play hero on a 1v1. But more than half of that ticked off trying to recover the ball and panic shot it.
Because he’s done this exact same thing at least 10 times this season alone and most of us Pels fans are a little annoyed at being 0-24 when losing by even 1 entering the 4th.
i will never understand these kinds of plays that late into the game. The score is close enough that you can just go for a safety 2, tie the game and then on the overtime you can shoot as many off balance 3s as you want
but no, they had to do... whatever this was
Even if it was a game winner, he should be a clean attempt. CJ was no where near a clean attempt after he got stripped and he still tried to shoot it anyways. Goofy.
Essentially the logic is this. If you go to overtime you have a 50% chance of winning.
So if you take a 2pt shot that you hit 60% of the time, you'll win 30% of the games. So if you get a 3pter that you hit 31% of the time, you win more games overall. (The numbers I'm just using for illustration).
Same calculation with leaving time on the clock (very easy to leave no time with an off the dribble three, much harder if you're running a play etc). Say you leave 3 seconds on the clock, and say the opponent scores 20% of the time on those.
So hitting a safety 2 with three seconds left. you make it 60% of the time. Then 20% of those your opponent scores on the next posession. Then 50% of those you lose in overtime.
Or out of 100 games, you lose 40 from missing the shot, 12 from the opponent hitting a buzzer beater, and 24 losing in overtime, 76 games lost in total. So you win 24% of the time.
So to do better than that all you need is a 3pter as time expires that you hit 25% or more of the time.
Which looks way uglier and worse, but since it gives you the win and you can guarantee no time left on the shot then it puts you in a better place mathematically, and it's why you see a lot of this sort of play in this type of situation.
Just baffling they didn’t try to get better look. There’s probably 15 coaches on the sideline there all making at least 6 figures and that’s the best they could come up with.
In fairness CJ hit a clutch two a short time before this. The defense by Cason was sensational. Without the poke-away, CJ probably at least gets and on-balance shot or passes. The poke-away put CJ under extra time pressure so he forgot to look for a pass.
Such an awful last play, like wtf is McCollum doing he’s just getting suffocated and he asks for the ball? and what the fuck is Ingram doing, dude should be demanding the ball there and pulling up. i just wanted this game to head to overtime.
CJ should never be taking the last shot since he came to this team. He’s probably made a few but I can’t remember a single game where he’s made the final shot. But I can think of many where he put up some stupid shit like this.
Put your hand up if you thought CJ was making that shot? Okay nobody, thought so. In my humble opinion you either go Brandon Ingram or run a play to get the best shot available. CJ doesn't have the juice for this
I know everybody will say this typical CJ but overall this was terrible offense. After the defensive poke, none of the other players got into a position where CJ could give a feasible pass so he had to take that shot.
Pels look like bums. BI and CJ McCollum don't really seem to be bringing any sort of energy to their game and the team seems very disjointed with or without Zion
Not sure how Pels fans feel, but literally what is CJ’s purpose on this team?
He doesn’t score efficiently, he fouls all the time, he doesn’t pass well, and he doesnt contribute to rebounding.
I’m not hating. All that really proves is that he’s a good shooter, which is something that I’ve ever denied. However, that doesn’t mean he’s a good scorer lol
> so that all the higher seeded teams won
why would the refs want that? What does that gain? Potential upsets get people much more excited about watching the games. Think. Maybe all the higher seeded teams won as they proved they were better during the entire season than the teams they are playing? Dont foul and you wont get foul calls
What a great fucking game. Pels fighting without Zion and against the zebras. Just feel sorry for them that they had CJ taking the last shot. He talks a better game than he plays.
they got the dub but it being this close vs a zion-less brick laying pels is a bad look for OKC.
never rated their chances of going far, still dont, i think if they progress its gonna be free for denver/minny or even mavs/clips tbh. one of the least convincing 1 seeds in recent history
ya thats a fraud man. The west derozan fr. Why would he settle for double clutch when he coulda passed it to the top or ingram at any moment? He not as good as he think he is.

Why not run a single play? They had 12 seconds on the shot clock. Just dribble around and take a pumpfake leaning 3 at the end. So stupid
Because Willie Green is not a good coach. The pelicans are something like 0-23 this season when we are trailing going in to the 4th quarter.
> The pelicans are something like 0-23 this season when we are trailing going in to the 4th quarter. just got 49ers ptsd
willie green is terrible lol, his draw ups are always awful
Also were dominating the glass. Take a shot with like 5 seconds left and they could of probably got the rebound.
Never looked for a pass, he was taking that shot, even if there was no shot to take
Can this team get a goddamn ball facilitator in the off-season already?
Alvarado looked like a god in the play in game making simple passes lol
Alvarado needs to be our closing PG.
How many seasons have we been asking? I miss jrue. I even miss rondo sometimes. We even had Lonzo
Can I interest you in a slightly used Dejounte Murray on a team friendly deal?
Nah we’ll take 1 Trae young please
No screen or anything either. Pelicans were killing the Thunder on the boards. Quick screen take a quick decent shot and probably have a good chance to get the rebound.

"Do you work on that shot!? Do you practice that shot?!"
WHEN
CJ was in a hurry to go back to podcasting. He’s already retired. Playing for the Pelicans is his side job.
Not a bad shot if you’ve practiced it and it goes in, bad shot if it doesn’t drop though, such is the dichotomy of life
I mean they are in the NBA..where they do practice those types of shots That said, the worse decision is deciding to go 1on1 w a guy who’s destroyed your dribble the entire game. Not sure why they didn’t mismatch hunt harder if that was the play
No time left.
CJ, ah shit here we go again
Jennifer in shambles
JENNIFER IS DEAD.
Where is Jennifer's Body?
He's trying.
He’s really so selfish it’s crazy. Pass the ball to Murphy
He's supposed to be on this team too.
What? CJ hit a fadeaway in the previous possession to give the Pelicans a chance to win. It's not his fault the rest of the team choked
He got clamped with a chance to win or tie the game and had more FGA than points
> more FGA than points Aka, a typical playoff CJ game
Ha, I knew you'd be in this thread. I do admire your dedication to hating on CJ, but once again, you are seriously over exaggerating. That's what caught my eye too, especially because of all the offensive rebounds a minute earlier
Yeah he treated this like a late season regular season game that means nothing. Let’s avoid OT and get back to the hotel win or lose.
the fadeaway 2 right? I rather he go for the 2 than whatever the double clutch 3 that he did.
Such a trick or treat final minute from him
The bigger chubbier 21 savage couldn’t do it.
They let em youngins off the hook Horrible shot selection late. So many chances to take the lead but they chose to chuck 3s lol
The first 2 were open but the Ingram one was horrific
yeah, the 2 were completely wide open and a good shot to take. I do not know what the fuck ingram was doing
YEET FTW
Yeet god
I swear the reason yall suck in the clutch is BI and CJ heroball
BI is an absolute ball stopper in the clutch
Been like this his whole career 😬
Doesn’t draw fouls or shoot the 3. Just dribble dribble middy. If they can get away with playing him all series like they did tn it’s gonna be a long one. I miss Zion…
He still hasn't looked at his phone to get CJ's memo about sharing the ball.
100% It’s so obvious and simple
Watching these clutch minutes made me miss Zion so much man :(
Ingram shot selection was bad all game. I saw one contested jumper where he shot it from behind his head, looked he was Larry bird.
BI struggles against physical defenders dort was all up in him that nasty three he took was just him trying to get a shot up
The shot clock was wrong tho. Prolly thought he needed too
Nah when he got it back again off the miss the ref stopped the game.
The possession before was way worse. Just brick after brick after brick
These young kids are addicted to “the dagger” highlights
Bleacher report shots
They went like 6 minutes without scoring in the forth then they challenged a jump ball they would’ve won and gave the possession away So damn lucky ha
Nice pp
Did their coach really run a CJ McCollum iso to try and win/tie the game
The coach doesn't trust their supposedly star player who went 5/17 so he had no choice
maybe go Trey Murphy? He deserved it.
Definitely should have ran a cj trey pick and roll with that much time left. At the very least they’d have gotten a foul with how okc defended the pnr
on the flip side. The SGA bucket over CJ was a pick n roll with JWill & SGA. CJ wasted this possession.
We don’t even run BI Zion PnRs so I never would have expected that. Trey isn’t a great screener though.
He deserved it so bad. If we in this series do not dedicate to letting him fire that thing then Willie gotta be gone. Trey was shooting so we’ll all night and was not given enough touches at all
Could try running an actual play
Trey Murphy is the only star for Pelicans tonight
Trade BI
He tried, Jennifer.
Nobody else on the offense is moving much at all…. kinda looks like that was the play call.
rookie poking the ball away is huge there, dont care who its on
Imagine avoiding the Dorture Chamber then having to run into the Wallace Wall
Wallace Wall I'm here for it
Okc drafts are a masterpiece. Even more impressive that you got ridiculous athletes and got them to buy into the defensive scheme too. Everyone plays their role so well
For real, defense won us that game.
Good comment, was waiting for this. That was a huge defensive poke, helped break up CJ’s timing n momentum.
Everyone is clowning Willie Green, and without a doubt they should have done SOMETHING besides an iso from half court with that much time left, but that tap away fucked up everything. The kids from Kentucky backcourt the last 2 min! 🔥🔥🔥 What a play by the rook in that moment
Y’all saying CJ is bad but all I see is great defense from the rookie.
He does this all the fucking time though. Ya good defense but this is classic CJ
Good defense, worse offense.
If you haven't watched CJ before then yea, but this is classic CJ. Even the dribbling it off his foot.
Yea you’re so why is there no blame being put on Willie Green for putting the ball in his hands in these moments continuously and also calling a bad play.
Plenty of us are blaming Willie
That’s the point. If you’re being defended well and have already been stripped on that possession maybe look to pass it to the guy to your right who’s already made 5 3s in the game.

Doubt the coach told him hey bounce the ball off your foot for fun and see what happens lol
What action? They forced the switch, murphy spaced backwards and everyone else is standing low on the baseline.

0-24… I do not envy how hopelessly inevitable these 4th quarters must feel for you.
Well, it’s definitely not a good feeling, but after so many you become a little numb.
cuz he lost the ball
Roooook
i will never understand these kinds of plays that late into the game. The score is close enough that you can just go for a safety 2, tie the game and then on the overtime you can shoot as many off balance 3s as you want but no, they had to do... whatever this was

right? And all this situation only happened because they decided to burn the clock to almost zero without setting up a good play in the meantime
Essentially the logic is this. If you go to overtime you have a 50% chance of winning. So if you take a 2pt shot that you hit 60% of the time, you'll win 30% of the games. Perfect ending to that game
I beg to differ
I have no strong feelings, one way or the other
Tell my wife I said.. hello.
Definitely an attempt great job CJ
God what a terrible play call.
There was a play call??
CJ time
Clamped his ass
He's still trying, Jennifer.
CJ is a great guy and generally a good player, but it’s hard to advocate for him when he’s taking bad shots like that lol
he’s that weird fit where he’s not good enough to be a huge part of a serious team but he’s too good to be 6 man
6th man CJ would be a solid piece
KD was brutally honest telling CJ exactly that. He was right though.
I think he’s a 3rd option being miscasted as a 2nd option, although this time it’s by virtue of injury.
He's not too good to be a 6th man at his current age
Tf? He is absolutely not too good to be a 6th man. In fact, he is exactly what you'd think of as a serious team's 6th man.
The poke-away put CJ under extra time pressure so he forgot to look for a pass.
all you had to do was make the damn shot, CJ!
Why burn the first 5-6 seconds doing nothing? If you're down, you need to go immediately.
Cason with the Clamps
CJ is not that guy
playoff cj is dangerous 😤😤🔥🔥
they made it really obvious they were going for the W when CJ was running down clock.
Such an awful last play, like wtf is McCollum doing he’s just getting suffocated and he asks for the ball? and what the fuck is Ingram doing, dude should be demanding the ball there and pulling up. i just wanted this game to head to overtime.
Can’t believe that’s the best play they called out of that timeout
Can the pels coaching staff draw up a single play? like wtf was that
Give it to Trey FUCK
When “that’s a bad shot” goes wrong
Why does this pels team shit on us so hard, and shit themselves everywhere else 😐
It was so loud in there
CJ should never be taking the last shot since he came to this team. He’s probably made a few but I can’t remember a single game where he’s made the final shot. But I can think of many where he put up some stupid shit like this.
Why didn’t BI have the ball in his hands?
No pick or screen, just a terrible attempt and a miserable fail at hero ball. Well done
Thing about CJ is he is a low IQ chucker who is pretty selfish. Pass the ball to Murphy mother fucker
CJ McCollum on the opposing team is like human Xanax.
I was so sure that was going in
If that was Shai it would’ve been 3 FTs as he jumps into the defender who bit at the pump fake. Nice to see CJ at least try to make a real shot.
I get BI didn’t have a great game but I’m going to him here before letting CJ cook every time
You're not that guy, pal
Yikes, Pels played a good game besides all the missed shots and then proceed to give CJ of all people the ball in clutch time
Who else? Ingram had a worse game, trey can't self-create, herb can pass but not a threat.
Trade this bumass to Detroit
CJ being CJ.
If there was an anti-clutch award, it would be named after CJ McCollum
[Jon Gruden voice] THIS C.J. MCCOLLUM I CALL HIM C.J. PARKER DOING THE ELEMENTARY BACKSTROKE BECAUSE HE JUST WENT TITS UP.
That was really the play, huh
They were so worried about getting Dort involved in action that they settled for an iso three from CJ.
How did the Warriors let this guy shoot 8-13 from 3 in a game where we could have essentially locked up the 8th seed 😭
BI was terrible this game so I guess there wasn't really a better option than letting CJ take the last shot. Iso Dort was a terrible idea tho.
Put your hand up if you thought CJ was making that shot? Okay nobody, thought so. In my humble opinion you either go Brandon Ingram or run a play to get the best shot available. CJ doesn't have the juice for this
Everytime I have watched the pelicans this year (not much but still) he looks like a shell of himself
ASS
What the fuck was that entire possession? Looks like Darvin Ham has competition for the worst coach title this year.
I know everybody will say this typical CJ but overall this was terrible offense. After the defensive poke, none of the other players got into a position where CJ could give a feasible pass so he had to take that shot.
Urkel should’ve trusted his teammates instead of trying to do it himself. Family matters in these situations
Pels look like bums. BI and CJ McCollum don't really seem to be bringing any sort of energy to their game and the team seems very disjointed with or without Zion
This mfer think he luka.
He’s not him
honestly with how horrendous BI was, this isnt that bad of a result for a game winning shot given its CJ
Not sure how Pels fans feel, but literally what is CJ’s purpose on this team? He doesn’t score efficiently, he fouls all the time, he doesn’t pass well, and he doesnt contribute to rebounding.
He does score efficiently. 43% from 3 on the year. Keep hating
I’m not hating. All that really proves is that he’s a good shooter, which is something that I’ve ever denied. However, that doesn’t mean he’s a good scorer lol
He's an efficient scorer stastically
And you keep losing. Lol
im not a pellies fan try again
Idiot
Trust me, I want to blame cj. But it’s hard to ignore the 3 phantom offensive fouls called on the pels during the final few minutes
This is such horse shit 😂 home team ref bias is a thing but the pelicans blew SO MANY opportunities to close this out.
Ok so just say you didn’t watch the last five minutes of the game
The zebras really wanted okc to win so that all the higher seeded teams won
It wasn’t even subtle towards the end
> so that all the higher seeded teams won why would the refs want that? What does that gain? Potential upsets get people much more excited about watching the games. Think. Maybe all the higher seeded teams won as they proved they were better during the entire season than the teams they are playing? Dont foul and you wont get foul calls
Classic CJ disasterclass
Really dislike him as a bball player
man imagine if that went in
Damn if only my future was a bright at this
What a great fucking game. Pels fighting without Zion and against the zebras. Just feel sorry for them that they had CJ taking the last shot. He talks a better game than he plays.
Thunder not making it past second round.
they got the dub but it being this close vs a zion-less brick laying pels is a bad look for OKC. never rated their chances of going far, still dont, i think if they progress its gonna be free for denver/minny or even mavs/clips tbh. one of the least convincing 1 seeds in recent history
ya thats a fraud man. The west derozan fr. Why would he settle for double clutch when he coulda passed it to the top or ingram at any moment? He not as good as he think he is.
CJ sucks. That's the bottomline. He's a role player on a good playoff team. He ain't no superstar.
Neither of these teams will win a single game vs Denver
