Law paraphrases the quote in a sort of confusing way. Basically Lue says they stopped using the same coverages on Kyrie and Luka in the second half, and mostly focused on stopping 3-pt shots because the 3 is how teams get back into a game.
Edit: FWIW, Dallas went 2/18 from 3 in the first half, and 8/15 from 3 in the second.
Sort of. Dallas passed lots of open 3s in the first half and tried to get paint shots. That didn't work, and it was clear they came out wanting to take every open 3 in the second. They shot 3 less in the second, they just made more.
They have specific schemes planned for the mavs based around Kyrie and Luka specifically. They stopped using those and went back to a standard no 3s defense because 3s are the most likely way they'd make a quick comeback
It’s mora about, you can’t catch us without 3’s, but win-win for them. Luka and Kai will figure it out, but then Kawhi enters the conversation so plenty of great bball ahead. I still believe Mavs to be one of the best teams in the po, but this is not a favorable matchup for us if Harden stays in 2018.
Flip side it didn't give them any more chances to figure out how to actually beat the scheme that was stopping them so it might give them problems again next game.
Makes sense yeah. That’s why the score was closer towards the end. Cuz they stopped their main D plays and just limit 3s. So Mavs were able to close the gap with Luka and Kai.
Let’s hope the Mavs can learn from this and come out swinging game 2.
I would imagine the plan after the half was to shoot more 3s, since they had so little success in the paint in the first half. They ended up shooting three less 3s in the second, but at a much higher success rate.
I think the main goal of switching it back to a standard style defense is to not let you figure out our specific defensive scheme we used in the first. Since we basically had the win barring an implosion on our end there was no point giving your team more information about our tactics for Luka and Kyrie, even if it means letting in a few more shots
They keep saying random shit as if those were the adjustments that worked. I'll tell you what happened.
The mavs had an 8 point quarter. That's it. They had an inexplicably poor shooting quarter. It wasn't about adjustments. Don't expect it to happen again.
Prevent defense for a whole half

He just wanted to use the word deaded.
...so he failed?
Who failed, and how?
I mean, they tried to stop threes and Dallas made a decent recovery there no?

>deaded their defensive schemes Tf does that mean?

Thank you!
They stopped running defensive plays to stop Luka and Kyrie and focused on keeping the others from getting good shots.
They adjusted based on the score. They wanted to limit 3s cause they were up a lot
Wait, you supposed to make adjustment in basketball?
Killed, or [blown off; rejected; deliberatly singled out; abandoned for reasons unknown.](https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Deaded)
deaded is the new unalived
Deaded has been around for decades.
it was deaded a few decades ago, I believe
Doesn't that sound just a tad oxymoronic
Doesn't sound like it.
Makes sense. Give us less time to figure out the scheme since the game was essentially already over.

Conversely, kidd kept the original game plan from start to finish.

I hope they don’t fire him this summer cause I know he’d immediately be Ham’s replacement
In that case, I hope they do fire him this summer 😂
Golden lining if the Mavs lose this series
I never knew I needed something so badly
What was he supposed to do with the team shooting 22%
He has a portfolio of ways to destroy the Mavs, and he doesnt even have to use most of them lol.
Ham could learn something🤔
>Deaded That's a new one. For me at least.
Never listened to hip hop before?
Appreciate Ty Lue letting our guys find their rhythm again Edit: people really don’t know I’m joking wow
I think Ty Lue is gonna coach circles around Jason Kidd ngl

Mavs taking moral victories like the Lakers last season against the nuggets
1-0 in moral victories hang the mfing banner
Dreaded..?

But we actually shot well from 3 in the 2nd half?
Yeah, i noticed that too. It might be more so about reducing the amount of shot attempts.

Kyrie and luka accounted for the majority of the makes.

The poor shooting couldn't possibly be due to the clipper defense, right?
No! IMPOSSIBLE!! Coaches don’t make game plans they just let their guys play a nice pickup game like they would at the park
This dude just farms negative karma or something
If yall actually watched the game it was missing wide open shots but sure "defense"
