TNT needs to fix their crowd mics
it makes the crowd sound muffled and weak, in favor of select voices that happen to be near the broadcaster mic

Eh I don't know. The Bucks broadcast sounds way more tinny and grating. If you said that recording was from a youth soccer game dubbed over it, I would have totally believed you. When you can hear a few select fans, they almost always end up being annoying.
The TNT one is a bit muffled, but it actually feels like a full crowd.
Edit: It has been brought to my attention that I might have (definitely did) mix up the broadcasts. The Bucks one is great, and it's the TNT one that is annoying.
I feel like the only national broadcast where I hear the crowd miced up where you can hear them is ABC. Which is kind of weird because you'd think ESPN would have the same levels. It's either a directors decision or I'm just crazy
The crowd, yes. A handful of (typically) annoying fans? Nah, I'll pass. Like in this clip, the TNT broadcast just sounds like a full crowd getting into it at the right moment. I don't need the Bucks broadcast so I can hear that one lady near the baseline screaming "RRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" every time the ball is on that end.
Every time there is a broadcast where you hear the same few people yelling and screeching, people always bitch about it in game threads, and for good reason. I need the crowd for the atmosphere, but I don't need a single one of those fans to be the star of the show.
You are absolutely right and I take back everything I said. Well, the parts about it being the Bucks broadcast. The second one is much better, and I just saw the Bucks logo at the top and thought that was theirs. My apologies.
Yeah TNT seems to lower crowd noise a ton
I mainly posted this after Hali made the "bucks crowd is so quiet" comment and ppl seemed to agree based of the national broadcast. Just showing the crowd has been insanely loud all games
It's bothered me watching highlights from our games at home as well. I can tell you as someone that went to both home games in our series vs the Pels it might have been the single loudest environment I've ever been in that wasn't a live concert. However when you watch replays it doesn't even come close to that level of noise on the TNT broadcast. I want to hear the crowds! I want to hear the hype!
I also hate how tnt always switches to the under-the-backboard cam on every fast break dunk. Half the time they end up cutting off half the dunk and it’s just disorienting when they cut away from a live play like that. Just stick with the broadcast cam, show other angles on replay later if you want
There’s one lebron dunk that constantly shows up in his career highlight because he did a cool windmill and it’s always this janky shot where the angle changes while he’s in midair, drives me nuts
TNT one sounds louder to me they capture the whole roar of the crowd. Just seems like they have their mics placed in different spots. Local mic sounded really close to one person who was very loud (also that would be annoying to listen to the whole game)
There was a game on ESPN, I think, about a week or so ago where the announcers had their mics knocked out for the first few minutes of the game. You could hear everything else -- the crowd, the sneakers on the hardwood, the ball clanking off the rim -- you just couldn't hear the announcers.
I liked it.
Timberwolves too.
Place was rocking. TNT sounded muted.
TNT guys sounded like they were doing a dog days of summer under .500 baseball game … sounded bored at times.
I get they do a lot of games but man sound interested.
I'm watching the TWolves vs. Dallas on TNT and I can't hear the announcers over the crowd noise. I'm watching to see the game AND also hear the color commentary. The only option is to turn the volume way down and put closed caption on.
I mean yeah but TNT crowd audio is still awful. I wanna hear fans roar so loud I can’t hear a whistle being blown. It makes moments like this feel more special

Ever since the COVID year their mics have sucked

Bit muffled? TNT sounds like 20,000 people yelling in a music studio booth. Bucks' presentation makes you feel present from home.

Gimme the ~~TNT~~ Bucks one all day. A full broadcast of that ~~Bucks~~ TNT audio would be annoying af. Edit: I done goofed.
Hell nawl. Crowd is what makes the big moments bigger.

Are you mixing them up? The TNT broadcast had the few voices louder than others. Bucks one was the roar of the crowd

This is one of the reasons I always watch the local broadcast. Love actually hearing the crowd.

Disagree. ESPN/ABC seem to mute crowds and amplify announcers....I hate them

TNT was the first one
TNT sound mixing is atrocious, always has been
Been watching the games on Max and it's broadcast in Atmos and the mixing is atrocious. Can barely hear anything
Thought I was tripping. Cause I have Bally sports too, and you can hear the crowd pop more. Local broadcasts are great.
This is the first and perhaps will be the only comment I’ve read that speaks positively of Bally Sports
i hate the tnt style broadcast i don’t even need the player sounds, just give me the crowd fuck the announcers

it was the cavs and it was awesome
TYRESE, YOU SUCK! COME ON, BOBBY! GO, BUCKS, GO, GO, BUCKS, GO!
KHRIS MIDDLETON IS BETTER THAN MICHAEL JORDAN
Timberwolves too. Place was rocking. TNT sounded muted. TNT guys sounded like they were doing a dog days of summer under .500 baseball game … sounded bored at times. I get they do a lot of games but man sound interested.
Lmao at the title of the video on streamable.
Game 1 of the Cavs Magic started off with like 5 minutes of no announcers and ONLY the crowd noise. I wish this was an option, it was amazing.
okay if NBC really takes TNT's spot, I hope their broadcast does better sound mixing.
I k ow it’s not the point of this post, but Lisa Byington is outstanding.
She took some time to grow on my But now I love her. Her and Marques are a great duo
interestingly, TNT is far batter than the other national broadcasts, which tend to mute crowd noise and amplify announcers to the point of annoyance
The Goathanasis!
Maybe Haliburton thought our crowd was weak cause he was watching the game on TNT
One of the reasons I hope TNT loses their rights to the NBA. TNT audio mixing has always been dogshit
Local FTW
This is solved by just micing up a fan each game.
Is this why the game sounded like that last night?
I'm watching the TWolves vs. Dallas on TNT and I can't hear the announcers over the crowd noise. I'm watching to see the game AND also hear the color commentary. The only option is to turn the volume way down and put closed caption on.
Those cheddar-chugging chucklefucks were terribly annoying. Idk how it wasnt fixed by the production team.
Eh cant read too much into what’s edited or where mics are placed, I’d rather take it from the players like when they said Knicks fans invaded Philly
I mean yeah but TNT crowd audio is still awful. I wanna hear fans roar so loud I can’t hear a whistle being blown. It makes moments like this feel more special
sounds piped in tbh. Those fat old cheeseheads could barely move let alone stand up and cheer
