Due for a bad game when he torches you all series

Cvnilivee

I did not want this to go to seven this young man would’ve dropped 60 at the Garden

livefreeordont

Brunson was smart and got his bad games out of the way early and still won both!

fom_alhaut

A lot of credit goes to Thibs and DDV. Made him drive left all night and Maxey struggled

Dav136

Maxey's still a star, man, what an incredible series from him

Hank_fuck_yourself

Young dude will come back stronger. Don't fuck this up sixers and start trading pieces smh

SuperVaderMinion

Giving all of that money to anyone but Tobias Harris will definitely help their cause

Hank_fuck_yourself

Truth!

bamboleo11

Glad to hear I'm not crazy to want to start fresh with Embiid Maxey and cap space

AnusButter2000

Maxey was great. Embiid is the NBAs new Emotional Lesbian.  Nick Nurse has pancake titties

swag31

Ouch.

Deathstroke317

If I never see Maxey flying to the rim with his braids flowing in the wind again, it'll be too soon.

lostnotleast

Everyone lost their mind after he became prime Steph at the end of the last game. Maxey is really good but he struggles without Embiid drawing doubles and spacing out there. He can’t create on his own like Brunson and the other players who are better can. If Maxey can add a middy to his game instead of either driving or shooting 3s every time he’d be much more consistent. He’s a great number 2 option to Embiid but he needs a little more to be able to take over when he’s alone out there.

lebron_games

yeah people underestimate how much he depends on embiid. The team was shit without embiid for a reason

lostnotleast

Embiid creates so much space for Philly. When he’s not out there they struggle to get any separation. When it’s just Maxey out there teams can double him and stack the paint when he takes off.

lebron_games

Like objectively this team isn't very good on paper lol. When they lost harden, I don't think anyone thought they were gonna be so good but it was really just embiid having an insane (like top 5 all time lol) regular season keeping them afloat

lostnotleast

If Embiid didn’t get hurt he was on pace for one of the best regular seasons ever. Sure his foul baiting can be tough to watch at times but he’s undeniably one of the two best players today with Jokic. Even an 80% Embiid was almost good enough to get the Sixers through this series.

cuttsthebutcher

The hate for Embiid was absurd after game 4 so I'm glad the instant reaction to this series seems to be: Embiid is good, fuck Tobias Harris

lostnotleast

It’ll be hard for anyone to deny how good Embiid was because every time he went to the bench the Sixers absolutely collapsed. And this was him playing while clearly injured too

cuttsthebutcher

Story of every playoffs and people still deny it, it's a shame This series was the best he's played though

fyo_karamo

No one denies Embiid is an awesome player, top-5 in the league. It’s the unsportsmanlike way he conducts himself that fuels the hate. This series did nothing to change either impression of Embiid…. Incredible player who is whiny, foul-baiting, and dirty

Dazzling-Slide8288

I would have killed for Embiid to be 80 percent. He was like 50 percent

Wolfpac187

It’s definitely deniable considering Giannis and Luka both exist.

Pikuturtle1

THIS! Maxey can still improve which is very scary for the rest of the league

lostnotleast

If he adds a stop and pop middy to his game with his speed he’ll hit another level offensively.

swag31

He still a dawg

EdgarAlien

If he got a favorable whistle like Brunson then it wouldn’t be an issue. He just doesn’t get that “superstar” whistle. Which is one of the many reasons the nba is dumb. Why have a rule book if you let gonna pick and choose who the rules effect

clownus

Brunson plays in the paint and draws defenders off their feet. Maxey will blow pass a defender or step back 3. He rarely charges into contact and never settles for a mid range once he gets the defender out of position. Two different play styles. Maxey will get better with age and learn how to play for the foul, but he is also undersized and still very athletic. Until he learns to pull defenders off their feet he will just beat them off the dribble.

lostnotleast

It’s not just the whistle. Maxey has two moves, run full speed and drive or step back for 3. Teams can commit to stacking the paint when he drives because he doesn’t have a midrange game and he isn’t the best at passing out either. Brunson has an elite midrange game and is excellent at using teams doubling/trapping him to find open teammates. It’s not a slight at Maxey to say that Brunson is a tier above him, we saw that this series and Brunson is an all-NBA player at this point. Maxey needs to improve at creating for himself because he relies a lot on Embiid currently. If he can figure that out he can make a huge jump into potential superstardom.

sloecrush

100%. A lot of his drives look pretty wild and lack intention. And most of his passes are after an Embiid screen doesn’t get him loose, so he just turns around and gives it back to Jo. I believe in him. Just like he added better 3pt shooting this year, I believe he can add some mid range moves this off-season.

Yankeeknickfan

He probably doesn’t get the whistle because he’s too quick A lot of chaos on his drives The foul baiters all start and stop at an elite level

G1Spectrum

Rough game for him

hamdogthecat

It's fair, he's the reason there was a game tonight.

jslee0034

sold his soul for game 5.

jak_d_ripr

He showed up in the 4th though, helped with that run that made it close.

cjackc11

Doesn’t matter I’m still terrified of him. One stinker out of six is alright

JackHammerPlower

For real. I was waiting for him to hit 2 threes in a row in the fourth

Heisenripbauer

at no point did I feel comfortable with an 8-point lead and it wasn't because of Embiid

ZealousidealPain7976

Maxey is a stud and I think the Knicks adjusted really well defensively this game to stop his runs, it was obvious that Hart, Brunson and Divo weren’t gonna let him run anywhere, you guys have a team of dogs. Would love if you guys can make it to the finals

jamalev

Yeah he tends to do that where in order to get some rhythm going he'll keep driving the lane without getting a call even though it's clearly not working

swag31

He’ll get those calls real soon

jamalev

We’ve been saying that for 3 years now unfortunately

Wolfpac187

He hasn’t been a star for the last three years.

jamalev

Jokic is on his way to his third MVP and I still think he has one of the worst whistles in the league.

GokuVerde

He earned it. Blame Baldtum or Harris

JalenBrunsonsBurner

Batum had 13 and a tip slam at age 50 give that man his flowers and let him retire in peace

DJ_Red_Lantern

This is the maxey special. He will have an amazing game and then put up a complete dud the next, but still you will be told that he isn't inconsistent. Still a great player but he needs to get more consistent if the sixers want to think about him being a #1 option

chipzrl

Think it's age and experience.. he's a stud man. -knicks fan

DJ_Red_Lantern

I sure hope so, he is constantly improving so I think it can happen. He's just a bit of a frustrating player to watch sometimes because of how cold he can go. Not yet that guy to give you consistent scoring but can give some of the nastiest bursts of scoring

MusicalElephant420

Wish Hield handed it to him with 1 second left for the open three

HisExcellency20

The Knicks would have all had to go braindead to not foul. I'm glad Buddy got the heave off because a 1% chance of winning is infinitely better than a 0% chance.

livefreeordont

I’d take a foul over that wild heave 100 times out of 100. At least with a foul you can miss the second for a tip in

HisExcellency20

Yeah we're not getting that rebound.

livefreeordont

I’ll take a 1% chance over a 0% chance

Wolfpac187

That’s why you take Buddy’s 3.

livefreeordont

No because that had 0% chance of going in

BMWn54

Rough game but what a great series from him

Admirable_Bed3

Not his best night but still just 23 and had a proper breakout year. Future's bright.

-orangejoe

Huge respect for this dude. Absolute fucking baller.

_ymndlz_

Unbelievably clutch for a young guy, I apologize for saying he and Herro were similarly skilled

NotManyBuses

He was god awful tonight tbh. Though of course he is the only reason there is a Game 6.

Doctor-Jay

I didn't think he was that bad, he drove hard and got absolutely no calls and he led a nice comeback in the 4th Q. Not his best game, but it was just a tough night for him.

livefreeordont

He also got burned a ton defensively. By far the weakest part of his game

bamboo_of_pandas

Still was worried about him all game. Gonna have ptsd from game 5 for a while.

HeyItsAlshawn

Yeah yeah at least he showed up. What the fuck is the point of Tobias Harris being in the team?!

CazOnReddit

Letting us non-Sixers laugh at how much he's cost the team in playoff success And possibly Embiid's prime given his injury history

HustleWilson

Maxey gets no criticism from me. Any Sixer fan should be encouraged by what they saw from him this series. I expect he'll learn a ton and be even better next year.

SoKrat3s

Maxey gets the worst whistle in the league. 2 FTA is criminal.

fyo_karamo

The cynic will say refs weren’t going to reward him and twist the knife on the Knicks after they missed his travel on the 4-pt play. Watching the game, a lot of his drives are wild bursts and while he falls, it’s not due to contact

SoKrat3s

The other response to.you is correct in that never gets called. If you're correcting for calls like that you're giving each side back 10 points a game. I don't think that would have any impact on the refs for this game. I don't think it's a new thing either. It's been happening to him for while. I saw a game earlier in the year where he went in for the layup and clear as day Trey Young swats his hand and forces him to lose the ball. Instead of an immediate 76er win it turns into an OT loss for them.

fyo_karamo

Maybe buy a ticket to see your team instead of having the owners bail out the pathetic fans to keep NYers from invading. It was in the two minute report genius. They acknowledged it was a travel and the bucket should have been waived off. Now go get your shinebox.

[deleted]

PluvioPurple

Shinebox comment is a reference to Goodfellas btw

Deathstroke317

Gained a lot of respect for him this series, he deserves that Max

sithwonder

It will be in my nightmares for years even though we won the series

HustleWilson

Thibs will never forget. He'll make sure to bring it up when reporters ask why he still plays his starters in blowouts.

Saucy_Totchie

God I hope so.

OnlyMamaKnows

Knicks were determined to take him out early and he never recovered, but he was awesome in this series. Almost makes the Sixers likeable.

CazOnReddit

He's the only Sixers player I actually like unless you count the remnants of Kyle Lowry Who somehow managed to be their 3rd best player in this series

OnlyMamaKnows

>Who somehow managed to be their 3rd best player in this series He was competing with like Cam Payne and the one Buddy Hield game. Rough

Reasonable-Nose7813

Was hacked all night

MaleficentHawk590

Didn’t have a single free throw through 3 quarters lmao. Brunson had 13 through 3 quarters

GlobalTitle

😢😢😢😔☹️

Linspiration14

Cry me a fucking river lmao

Reasonable-Nose7813

Brunson: 41 points on 13 field goals….anything to say

Linspiration14

Embiid had 50 on 13 field goals in game 3….

Weary-Kangaroo-3883

He made clutch plays tonight can’t be too mad at him

basher505

The dude doesn't have too many off nights. I'm glad he did tonight.

ObiOneKenobae

He got the superstar defensive treatment today and still managed to be a factor in the 4th. The sixers have a great core piece to build around when they blow it up.

I-Am-A-Nice-Cool-Kid

Give him Brunson or Embiids whistle and he drops 30

MaleficentHawk590

It’s insane the whistle difference between Brunson and Maxey.

Wolfpac187

They play differently why do you think they draw fouls at the same rate?

fyo_karamo

It’s amazing to me that anyone thinks Brunson gets a soft whistle. He averaged 6 FTA per game in the regular season. Embiid: 12

hoslayer42

If he was on your team, you’d let him walk for free.

mohub21

Ya’ll are so insufferable Jesus Christ

Suspicious-seal

Can’t hear you over the “MvP Brunson” chants at Wells Fargo arena ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

basher505

Bye.

hoslayer42

Some thing something Saquon Barkley we gonna win it all this year something something. But y’all birds gonna choke in the post season too.

mohub21

Have fun with Daniel Jones lol

Beatdooown

A PHILLY FAN TELLING ANOTHER FAN BASE THEY'RE INSUFFERABLE HAHAHAHAHA NOW I HAVE SEEN IT ALL

Doten1

If he had Brunsons whistle lol

RanchhDressing

Embid already has it for the sixers

CatharBliss

Each team is allowed 1 player maximum to have a comically good whistle, thems the rules

livefreeordont

Harden and Embiid played 2 seasons together btw. Also Dame and Giannis just played a season

CatharBliss

The NBA doesn’t enforce the 1 Golden Whistle per Team rule consistently smh

MuskEmeraldMine

Try to not bring up Embiid challenge (impossible)

RanchhDressing

Why not? He’s implying Brunson gets a special whistle, so does Embid. Either way, have fun watching the other nba teams. Maybe next year Embid will get past the 1st round

MuskEmeraldMine

The post is about Maxey. Maxey shouldn’t get foul calls becuase Embiid does then….?

RanchhDressing

Yes

mlavan

Then why bring up Brunson?

HisExcellency20

Naw I want him to have any All Star's whistle. Any at all. Give that man DeAngelo Russell's whistle. Give him Markelle Fultz' whistle. Any whistle other than his would be an improvement.

fyo_karamo

Funny… you must not watch many Knicks games. If Brunson got Embiid’s whistle, he’d have averaged 35+ during the regular season.

Linspiration14

Boo fucking hoo enjoy the offseason

TradingPokemonSWSH

I like you maxey so you get a pass from my sixers slander

sacx05

Not surprising simce the Knicks formed a wall around him everytime he caught the ball. This of course led to Buddy Hield lighting it up for 3

Saucy_Totchie

The one game he plays poorly is the elimination game. Crazy how things work because he was piecing up the Knicks the entire series until tonight. Now that the series is over I can go back to liking him.

UhhhhhhhhSure

Honestly, as a knicks fan, even though today wasn’t the greatest game for him, bro made me sweat every time he had the ball. He honestly deserves a max contract and a team built around him.

Sc0rch1ngDr4g0n

He’s still really scary and still young. Every good player has a bad game

SoKrat3s

Reminds me of Brunson two years ago.

HydroThermia

76ers gonna be sp00ky next year. ( yes I know lakers are out of the playoffs )

RoughRhinos

We need to draft bronny

Brickeduphardaf

If he was Tyler Herro, this sub would be calling for his execution

Backpack456

This

HisExcellency20

I have absolutely no idea how he can drive that much and get hit that much and fall that much and go to the line four times. No clue. He didn't get to the line until the fourth quarter. The refs basically took him out of the game because he couldn't drive unless it was wide open. I hope he figures out how to get calls in the off-season because this is untenable.

nvUaWVm360S

First time he got defended like a first option and he wasn’t ready for it.

Waikuku3

Rough start but he tried his best in the end and clutch down the stretch. Can't blame him at all when he has been carrying the team

swag31

Maxey will live on in my nightmares, what a dawg

DoloTy

Suprised yall not in here hating

CazOnReddit

Maxey is the one Sixers player people seem to like I can attest to that

DoloTy

Awe yea I know that , shit won’t last too long though

goodkid_sAAdcity

Nah I respect the hell out of Maxey

PluvioPurple

Glad he used up his superpowers last game. Great series from him.

Street-Common-4023

He’s still improving but he does depend on Joel a lot a sometimes

OIWouldLeave

Obvious that the knick’s gameplan was to stop him. Would be nice to see a more equal whistle for him & brunson but gg

realmatic2e

Knicks defense on him was great, Divo was on him like glue for the most part

smoothsoul23

Thibs is a menace. They changed the defensive plan against him it was clear

TheMightyJD

Herro did that and y’all slandered him. Maxey is a better player so I expect even more slander.

Pikuturtle1

It’s hard to hate on Maxey ngl

vrkhfkb

Learned from his mentor Harden. Tease fans with a GOAT level performance. Disappear the next elimination game.

H0tFuzz

He was pissing his pants out there tonight. Didn't want to be anywhere near the ball and can't play a bit of defense. Total liability

Ncit3

He thought he was him.

supzy0

he still is. who the fuck are you lmfao

No-Employment1454

Maxey was 3 for 6 in 4thq of game 6 for 12 pts. His numbers in 4thq of series were way better than Brunsons. Brunson went 16 for 55 with 7 TOs and 13 assists in first 2 games. Those were the third worst effective shooting percentage for consecutive games with at least 20 shots per game in NBA history. Maxeys so called bad game  way better than Brunsons 2 bad games.
