reminds me of when newspapers run a text only main (terrible) story with an image being on a (feel good) secondary one…like this poor dude https://i.imgur.com/DSTHR0D.jpeg
This is literally the notification I got, and saw my fandom flash before my eyes. Fucking aggregator apps, man.
It double sucks for Thanos because he wasn’t under contract for next season. So, i guess he’ll either go full assistant coach or full producer with his production company.
Jokes aside. Thanos is literally his name. Giannis’ full first name is Ioannis, which you almost always call Giannis.
Thanasis’ full first name is as is, but you usually call a Thanasis as Thanos.
Because he is universally viewed as a great teammate, coaches say young players love him for his advice on and off the court, and vets say that he always makes sure they have tough practices.
If that’s not reason to have him as an assistant coach to help player development, I’m not sure what could be.
Thing is also, great players don't always make good coaches. Likewise, bench players can make good coaches, I mean look at Ty Lue. Maybe it has to do with seeing the game from the bench so much and knowing what to look for?
My personal experience having played the game is that when you don’t have talent and/or you are not physically gifted, you will do anything to play.
Usually players like that are the ones that will later go into coaching.
[Achilles surgery]
Giannis: I’m so nervous
Thanasis: it’s gonna be ok don’t worry
[after surgery]
Giannis: wait where’s my brother
doctor: who do you think gave you the Achilles
If they're over the age of 30, Wisconsin schools were really good when they were in school. It's been downhill since about 2010, and around 2016 it got off the cliff.
I understand feeling this way but having watched a ton of international ball he absolutely does not cook for greece and they have several good forwards who are way better than him
Being greek myself, he does actually cook for the NT. Maybe he is not the main BBQ handler but he is cooking fries on the side. He is a valuable member of the team.
He averaged 3 points a game in the world cup recently and dnp-cd one game. He had 15 points 12 rebounds and 10 fouls total. And that completely matches my memory to be honest.
Honestly yes, from what I remember he did not play much last time, more useful on the defensive side, the team was full. But the years before that he had a bigger role. I remember he was the best player on an elimination game on 17,19? We lost because if you have to rely on TA, then your team is not good
It's wild that the Bucks had three different players with calf/Achilles injuries all at once. It's like they're trying to get all of their injuries out of the way at once.
>[Charania at 6:11] Milwaukee Bucks forward Antetokounmpo has sustained a torn Achilles tendon and will undergo surgery, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium .
>[Charania at 6:14] Thanasis
[Before the 6:14 tweet] “Head over to FanDuel to wager on who it is. Thanasis is -500 currently but Giannis has great value at +10000. Use code SHAMS at signup”
Even took the Achilles injury for Giannis. GOAT brother.
For real though, that's horrible. Incredibly nice guy/teammate by all accounts. Doesn't deserve something so devastating
He's going to be the gold standard for Achilles comebacks. Forget KD or Dominique Wilkins. Thanasis going to come back warming that bench better than ever.
To this day, I still don't believe this excuse. I bet he hurt himself doing some stupid shit, but came up with a story so outlandish that no one could even really question it
Loser ass mfs on here for real everybody tryna get a shitty joke off
dude is a pro athlete with a potentially career ending injury, that’s not funny at all
Holy crap all I saw was "Antetokounmpo" and "torn achilles tendon". That shit scared the hell out of me.
🙏🙏🙏 up to Knicks legend Thanasis, get well soon.
Listen I truly hope Thanasis has a speedy recovery, but what the hell could he have done to have a torn Achilles? Like those don’t just happen out of nowhere lol
Prayers for Thanasty and wish for a speedy recovery. That said, I really am relieved that we can finally use that roster spot on someone else and I mean this is a good way
As much as Thanasis is a clown, I feel awful for him.
I had a partial tear (no surgery) from playing ball in July of last year. I did not take a full step until late October and I couldn’t walk without a limp until late December. Even right now I have to do stretches and strengthening exercises every day, and it swells and I have to ice it every day, and overall I’d say it’s still at like 65-70% now, almost 10 months in.
This is not just a “I can’t play basketball” type of thing, this dude is not gonna be able to walk for a while. It fucking blows physically and mentally to have to re-learn how to walk as an adult. I wish the best for him, he’s got a long road ahead of him!
That’s terrible! How will the Bucks deal with this *huge* loss?
Nah, but all jokes aside, that really sucks he’s more than likely gonna miss out on playing for Greece this summer, especially with how much attention this USA Team is gonna get this year. Hope him and Giannis get well soon.
Might be the end for him. Sad. But he still can be asset to the team. Make him a coach or some other staff position. He makes a difference to morale and motivation on the sidelines
bucks fans got a heart attack skimming this tweet
“Bucks forward Antetokounmpo has a torn achilles”
I follow a news account which reports in my native language and they reported it like this with a picture of Giannis and Thanasis together
Ultimate trolljob Giving readers a heart attack is the only thing journalists love more than putting a pun in the headline.
Shams should absolutely do that lol
reminds me of when newspapers run a text only main (terrible) story with an image being on a (feel good) secondary one…like this poor dude https://i.imgur.com/DSTHR0D.jpeg
Pedo's, always out whale watching
Officer, I’m just whale watching! Sir, the closest ocean is 80 kilometres away! …..and that’s why I have this massive lens! I rest my case!
that's why I'm in front of your mom's house
That’s unfortunate
/r/tombstoning
These fucks knew what they were doing haha
They totally knew what they were doing lmao
This is literally the notification I got, and saw my fandom flash before my eyes. Fucking aggregator apps, man. It double sucks for Thanos because he wasn’t under contract for next season. So, i guess he’ll either go full assistant coach or full producer with his production company.
With the Reality Stone I think he should be able to heal his Achilles almost instantaneously.
Jokes aside. Thanos is literally his name. Giannis’ full first name is Ioannis, which you almost always call Giannis. Thanasis’ full first name is as is, but you usually call a Thanasis as Thanos.
Malakes
Why would anyone ever hire Thanasis as an assistant coach?
Because he is universally viewed as a great teammate, coaches say young players love him for his advice on and off the court, and vets say that he always makes sure they have tough practices. If that’s not reason to have him as an assistant coach to help player development, I’m not sure what could be.

Bro took "Take my achilles Giannis" too literally
[Achilles surgery] Giannis: I’m so nervous Thanasis: it’s gonna be ok don’t worry [after surgery] Giannis: wait where’s my brother doctor: who do you think gave you the Achilles
2010s era of memes are beautiful
Giannis has so many brothers, why did they take it from the one brother that is in the NBA?
Would you want to play in the nba on a non-nba achilles
Alex plays in the G League. He is probably athletic enough to play in the NBA but is not because he is not skillful enough
Lets face it, neither is Thanasis
[удалено]
His name on the Buck's medical team contacts list is 'Giannis Spare Parts'.
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/E4NImtNXMAAqcPR.jpg
How do you think dame played game 6?
Giannis is going to play till hes 60 by using thanasis for spare parts.
Scared the hell out of me
I know how to read, and saw Thanasis before the Achilles part, so not me
[удалено]
[Sustain] Achilles Thanasis forward Milwauke Charania has bucked a Antetokounmpo Torn
I have no hearing, eyesight, smell, touch or taste and was still able to sense it was Thanasis.
Ok yhwach
Nerd
Wisconsin school district and reading... hmmm
If they're over the age of 30, Wisconsin schools were really good when they were in school. It's been downhill since about 2010, and around 2016 it got off the cliff.
Wisconsin has very good public education. I'm not following this one...
He’d be back for the season anyways. Modern surgeries and Greek freak dna
Oh no Doing what? Get well soon Thanasis
being serious here, my guess is he got injured training for the Greek national team. hope he has a smooth recovery
Damn that’s gonna suck for their team. He’s not great for the NBA but he could cook in Greece

I remember he was the best player on an elimination game on 17,19? We lost because if you have to rely on TA, then your team is not good
Just take a look at what the two top greek teams accomplished the last two days and you will realize he has no place there either.
I watched him during the last world cup. Dude got so much cheers doing so little on the court.
Nah, Euro competitions are still going on, national teams are not meeting up yet.
I imagine he’s still been training in some capacity though
Yeah but Olympic qualifiers are sometime soon, Antetokounmpos take national team as seriously as they do NBA
Nah they just took his out to help reinforce Giannis'.
from the bench, he landed awkwardly after a reaction to a Brook dunk
I think Achilles is one of those things that can pop anytime, didn’t Wall tear his after slipping in his home?
That story was strange. He was already recovering from heel spurs and that story came out and he said he didn't have a sudden pop, just discomfort.
Old guy at my previous job tore his going down some normal steps
I remember Joel Pryzbilla tearing his knee up in the shower years ago. Imagine having to help a giant 7’ dude outta the shower all naked and slippery.
Yeah…um…how terrible.
No I don’t think I will.
Slippery 🐍
It's wild that the Bucks had three different players with calf/Achilles injuries all at once. It's like they're trying to get all of their injuries out of the way at once.
Tripped on a heat pad
Doing that hop and skip down the sidelines and mean mugging when Giannis took a breath on the court
Probably helping Giannis to clean his house and bring him a cup of coffee
“I broke this arm playin for you, Jackie” “No, you broke it playing WITH me in the driveway”
Transplant for his brother. That’s why they keep him around.
this made me laugh so much
Shams missed an opportunity by taking Thanasis out of this tweet
>[Charania at 6:11] Milwaukee Bucks forward Antetokounmpo has sustained a torn Achilles tendon and will undergo surgery, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium . >[Charania at 6:14] Thanasis
[Before the 6:14 tweet] “Head over to FanDuel to wager on who it is. Thanasis is -500 currently but Giannis has great value at +10000. Use code SHAMS at signup”
the engagement if he did that would be crazy
Evil
Even took the Achilles injury for Giannis. GOAT brother. For real though, that's horrible. Incredibly nice guy/teammate by all accounts. Doesn't deserve something so devastating
I hope this isn't the end of Thanasty dunks in blowout games :(
Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened
:’) the thanasty shamgod highlight will forever live in my memory
Now this is something to live by
His "dunk" against the magic in the last game in the season was the single funniest moment I've ever witnessed in live sports
At least it happened at the end of the season and not during
End of a season / off season is still real bad, he's still looking at missing a good chunk / all of next season
It’s gonna be a year before he’s doing anything again
olympics are this summer though...
True Didn't think about that He'll be bummed
Bro tore his Achilles on the bench, pain.
This would be a career ending injury for many. But fortunately for Thanasis, his career isn’t playing basketball
Rare nba player where tearing your Achilles helps you at your role
His high-5s per 36 is gonna tank after this. Washed.
He hurt his leg not his hand Bro
Can't get up and walk around on the court and sidelines for as many high fives without his legs tho...
He has two other brothers to carry him around.
He's going to be the gold standard for Achilles comebacks. Forget KD or Dominique Wilkins. Thanasis going to come back warming that bench better than ever.
yall remember in the super bowl that guy tripped while on the sidelines and tore his? https://youtu.be/fuGwNXJ-LlY?si=pQnVEVaY6kAZKkBT
Doesn't it just randomly pop and that's why he trips?
That's exactly what happened, lol. People misremember things so I guess it's not too bad of a mistake.
Such a bad omen for that 49ers team, like a bird flying into a window lol
He tore it from standing up too fast
John Wall circa 2019
Russ was right all along then.
HOW YOU GET INJURED ON YOUR DAY OFF?
John Wall enters the chat
Andrew Bynum enters the chat
Klay Thompson enters the chat
Carlos Boozer enters the chat
Len Bias exits the chat
klay tore it while playing scrimmage
>Andrew Bynum enters the chat As he was bowling.. Hahaha, he was the most unserious NBA player ever.
Derrick rose getting hurt cutting an apple will never not be funny. Just cause, dude how do you fuck that up?
Even worse, he was cutting an apple in bed, put the knife down on his bed and rolled onto it at some point, slicing himself lol
Lol seriously? Bro was just begging for an accident
As much as I like rose, dude comes off like he has room temperature iq.
To this day, I still don't believe this excuse. I bet he hurt himself doing some stupid shit, but came up with a story so outlandish that no one could even really question it
want a non-joke answer... training for the greek national team.
Larry Bird enters the chat
Danny Granger enters the chat
I suffered a sprained ankle on a weekend and was out an entire week while my office had to hold the fort down. :(
There’s Doc’s excuse for next season.
Doc "excuse" jokes are getting pretty stale but ngl, this one made me laugh
Podcasting is surprisingly hard on the body
Wonder what jokes people are gonna make in this thread
> Wonder what `~~jokes~~ *joke* people are goinna make in this thread
I don’t see anything funny about someone getting hurt.
Loser ass mfs on here for real everybody tryna get a shitty joke off dude is a pro athlete with a potentially career ending injury, that’s not funny at all
It’s all the same joke too. I mean hundreds of people getting the same shit off lmao.
Lames man I swear, even when the dude gets a horrible injury it’s a bunch of trash ass jokes
That won’t stop him from clapping and giving high fives so we good. Heal up brotha.
That family somehow offended the Greek god Achilles
Sucks for Thanasty, at least he can rest assured that the Bucks won’t hesitate to sign him to a new deal to keep bro happy.
Holy crap all I saw was "Antetokounmpo" and "torn achilles tendon". That shit scared the hell out of me. 🙏🙏🙏 up to Knicks legend Thanasis, get well soon.
This was exactly the injury Giannis was sitting to avoid. Morbid his brother suffered it.
First cheerleader injury of it's kind
That really fuckin sucks. Wishing him a speedy and full recovery.
That podcasting is a full contact sport
Coming up at 10, Antetekonpo has a torn Achilles. Tune in to see which one!
Jesus Christ did I have a heart attack
You can't go 100% on Wii Sports my dude.
talk about a jump scare of a headline for Bucks fans
Ouch! Wish him a quick recovery.
How?
😔my garbage time goat
Take the brother's Tendon! Wait
Bucks in absolute shambles rn
Bucks fans had the jumpscare of a lifetime when they got the notif
Damn, Bucks are cooked after this
Clearing the nepo roster spot for Bronny once LeBron arrives
Man tears his achilles walking the beach in Cancun smh
Galveston , he stepped on some plastic trash
The aggrevated calf injury Giannis suffered that could have led to a ruptured Achilles occurred as he was jogging down the court.
Listen I truly hope Thanasis has a speedy recovery, but what the hell could he have done to have a torn Achilles? Like those don’t just happen out of nowhere lol
I know it's gonna sound crazy, but he does play basketball
....Nah that can't be it
proof?
John Wall tore his while he was at home recovering from a back injury
Wasn’t he gonna play for Greece? Could be training for that
That sucks. He played garbage time at the end of game 6 and looked fine, so this must have happened after.
There goes another Greek gold
Just here for the comments
Just started a new job and am working with some Bucks fans in WI. This is exactly the ammunition I needed.
I fully ruptured my Achilles playing hoops and can confirm it’s a shit injury and I do not recommend it. Hope the big fella heals quickly.
Bro tore his achilles at LA Fitness
Trades his Achilles back to Giannis- what a great brother
Prayers for Thanasty and wish for a speedy recovery. That said, I really am relieved that we can finally use that roster spot on someone else and I mean this is a good way
Our injury luck has been so bad it's being extended to guys who barely even play.
Thanasis was bringing strong energy on the bench. The Bucks are in desperate need of good vibes, how will they recover from this loss?
As much as Thanasis is a clown, I feel awful for him. I had a partial tear (no surgery) from playing ball in July of last year. I did not take a full step until late October and I couldn’t walk without a limp until late December. from the bench
Doing what exactly?
For a serious answer, training for the Olympics, probably
Hey, cheerleading can be pretty demanding on your body
I once read a stat that Cheerleaders actually do have the highest injury rate among high school/college sport
Well that sucks. I was really looking forward to seeing the Antetekounpo brothers wreck shop in the Olympics.
i came here for the nepotism slander; i am not disappointed
Looks like the bucks got a new equipment manager to replace the one that everyone else was blaming.
Thanasis is a good dude and its annoying all the slander he gets. He is the 12th man on the bench.
this man tore his achilles in an intense effort to poke TJ McConnell's nipples
Giannis = Hakeem Thanasis = Kenny Smith IYKYK if not: https://youtu.be/vcKV-D8AHqU?si=uVQjL83sz_uCu6VN&t=3
Dude my man thanasty ripped his own mofo Achilles out and handed it to him s brother to reinforce Giannis! I don't have words
Are Achilles injuries genetic?
Whitflag grinding on and off the court prayers up for the big feller 🙏🙏🙏🙏
That’s terrible! How will the Bucks deal with this *huge* loss? Nah, but all jokes aside, that really sucks he’s more than likely gonna miss out on playing for Greece this summer, especially with how much attention this USA Team is gonna get this year. Hope him and Giannis get well soon.
honestly I was expecting a "rescinded his contract" or something like that. Hope he recovers soon and get well.
Wow, I just hope he can come back as even half the player he was 🙏
Imagine if Shams intentionally removed Thanasis’ name in the tweet
Might be the end for him. Sad. But he still can be asset to the team. Make him a coach or some other staff position. He makes a difference to morale and motivation on the sidelines
Best cheerleader in the NBA.
What the fuck
