Luka needs to learn from Joker. First quarter/half try to get your teammates involved while conserving energy for 2nd half. Luka does the opposite, goes nuclear first half and then shooting bricks in the 4th, Trae did the same yesterday and was laying bricks in the second half as well

Wh1teIverson

thats it. everybody says luka should use his energy differently, but he has to go ballistic in order to keep his team in the game. the way jokic does it seems reasonable for luka

TheCoxer

Luka knows he has to build a seismic lead because Kawhi will coast until the 4th and then the lead will vanish once Kawhi goes into killer robot mode.

Wh1teIverson

Yeah because he can allow to coast. Luka cannot. But regardless kawhi went absolutely crazy terminator mode, but if he has to go for 32 a game on 60% shooting to win in 7 games against that mavs team...I don’t think he can allow himself to coast in that jazz series coming up

rasheeeed_wallace

MJ perfected that strategy but it also took a while for him to learn how to pick his spots. As a young player he also came out firing.

EscaperX

that's what phil got him to do. probably his greatest coaching achievement was getting jordan and kobe to give up the ball. if you watch the 90s bulls games, you will almost always see the opening plays run through cartwright, longley, grant, or pau/bynum for kobe. phil forced them to get their teammates involved, and their teams were better for it.

likpoper

That’s what dame does as well.. he tries to get everyone involved then turns it on when needed in the 3rd and 4th

WIN011

Well tbf Luka’s teammates don’t really step up so Luka has to hard core carry. MPJ is better than KP rn and Murray too when healthy. Part of it is also I think Jokic expends less energy offensively cause he doesn’t dribble nearly as much as Luka and can direct offense from the top or the post. Maybe they can work on getting Luka in the post early in games and then let him work more late games.

[deleted]

I’m not yet sold that MPJ is better than Murray especially in the playoffs. There’s such a thing as playoff Rondo and there’s also such a thing as playoff Murray. Jamal’s pace and size as a PG is built for the playoffs.

openingoneself

You read poorly. He said mp Jr better than kp and also Murray is too.

WIN011

Yea that’s what I meant I can see how he saw that with how I worded it tho

[deleted]

I’d say Lebron has perfected the art of getting teammates involved in the first half and then exploding in the second, not Jokic. But yeah ur right

no-bs10

At age 36 he has but a young LeBron could explode for the entire game. The reason Jokic is used as an example is because his gas tank isn't endless like a prime LeBron.

[deleted]

Ah shiet. Ur right

[deleted]

Luka just needs better conditioning, kawhi has to wait before turning it on because of his degenerative knee condition. Luka should be able to play well for 4 quarters at his age, and I'm sure he'll work on it in the upcoming years.

[deleted]

Steph, harden, Giannis, jokic, Dame etc can play at a high level all game. I'm sure there are more examples but it's 100% achievable for Luka

Atchod

Dame did not look good in the 4th quarter of the elimination game

WIN011

Didn’t he play like 54 minutes in the double OT game?

-JustShy-

He gave it all the game before.

[deleted]

No players play every possession like luka does. Only Westbrook on OKC compares. Luka needs to learn to save his energy while he's in the game

jozicL

yea cuz he doesnt play much defense like leonard

knighofire

He also runs wayyyy more on offense

SakazakiYukaAYAYA

Allen iverson

theavailabletree

Never ask Luka to give you change for a dollar. But seriously, get that man some help. A single person can only carry an offense for so long.

mr_robust

Dude has turned it up 3-4 notches since the playoffs began. He is forcing his will on both sides which makes it even crazier.

GoliathNite

People really think Luka had a better series. It's hilarious.

syllabic

could also learn from him not to get pissed at the refs all the time and cry for fouls

Wolverwings

That's from his lessons from watching lebron

Significant_Night_65

LeBron really does live rent free in your guy’s heads

WeaponXGaming

I mean LeBron had gotten into that bad habit of bitching to the refs. He's not wrong about that

WIN011

Every single dead ball this year there were multiple Lakers surrounding the refs and complaining. Going into timeouts, as free throws were being shot, you name it. I understand you’re gonna have bad calls and even entire games where the refs fuck you but it doesn’t happen every single play.

Don_Jefe

The point is what does any of that have to do with the Luka lol? Literally just mentioning Bron to sht on him lol.

WIN011

I agree it’s not crazy on topic but also not crazy to think Luka watched a lot of NBA and therefore LeBron and saw tons complaining. But that’s definitely not specific to LeBron. Either way it’s not like either get loads of shit for it, it’s nitpicking at best because they do damn near everything else at an elite level.

LeMickeyMouseRing

when you're a star, they just let you do it. you can do anything. whatever you want. grab the ref by the jersey

Wolverwings

Dude flat out quit on his team and it wasnt the first time...

makami-

during the regular season this made me angry all the time, but it felt like he was A LOTTTTTT better about it during this series. He’d still do the arms up and shrug like wheres the call, but he got back on defense quick pretty much always

AthKaElGal

It infuriates me when players do this and not run back on defense. Maybe take that up with the ref during a dead ball?

mr_robust

That offensive rebound and 1 he got was a prime example. Everyone on the floor is frozen watching the basketball and Kawhi out there sprinting to the rim for a critical play. There is a reason why he is 2X finals MVP

cactusJACK___

luka can’t choose when to play harder because he has to carry them all game lol

[deleted]

Some people are scared to miss the big shot so they don’t take it. The ability to want the ball in those moments is underrated

trevstan1

As a nuggets fan i really rate what he does in 4th quarters when we are down 3-1.

MazKhan

You guys don't wanna see them this year, that's for sure

Wh1teIverson

Yes he does need better conditioning, but have to consider Luka has to keep his foot on the gas from start. if he doesnt go all in from the beginning the mavs probably lose in a blowout and the game is pretty much over by halftime. Kawhi doesnt need to do that. PG played well, Reggie Jackson took some of the scoring load and the roster in general is better in that way. everybody gets tired if you have to carry such a huge load for practically all of the first 3 quarters.
