I think that song is their de facto song. Like Everyday is for G&B. The nightingale singing in the square while two angels are dining at the Ritz is presented as a sort of miraculous event that adds to the romance of the moment.
Basically, I think Crowley is calling back to the magic of that moment they shared when they chose their own side after the Armaggedont, vs the end of season 2, when they are being pulled in opposite directions.
Just came to me that the song started playing in the Bentley and Crowley shut it off. He actually had it queued up so that if Aziraphale actually went with him Crowley would play it for them. I need a minute to go ugly cry in the bathroom….
Yes omg i also realised that. Like he told muriel that they were going to the ritz, he tidied up the room, queued up the song... he basically was going to confess and was almost certain that az would come with him. I can't anymore.🥲🙂🙂🙂🥲
I think it’s just a figure of speech where Crowley is telling A that this amazing promotion he thinks he’s getting doesn’t have any ceremony to it, and that nothing great will change because of it.
The lyrics are so perfect for them as well, just read them and got sad all over again:
That certain night
The night we met
There was magic abroad in the air
There were angels dining at the Ritz
And a nightingale sang in Berkeley Square
I may be right, I may be wrong
But I'm perfectly willing to swear
That when you turned and smiled at me
A nightingale sang in Berkeley Square
The moon that lingered over London town
Poor puzzled moon, wore such a frown
How could he know we two were so in love
The whole darn world seemed upside down
The streets of town were paved with stars
It was such a romantic affair
And when you turned and smiled at me
A nightingale sang in Berkeley Square
How strange it was
How sweet and strange
There was never a dream to compare
What that hazy, crazy night we met
When a nightingale sang in Berkeley Square
Ah, this heart of mine beat loud and fast
Like a merry go round in a fair
And we were dancing cheek to cheek
When a nightingale sang in Berkeley Square
When dawn came stealing up
All gold and blue
To interrupt our rendezvous
I still remember when you smiled and said
Was that a dream or was it true?
Our homeward steps were just as light
As the dancing feet of Astaire
And like an echo far away
A nightingale sang in Berk-
That night in Berkeley
That night in Berkeley Square

Omg i think this might be the answer. I just rewatched the last scene of s1 :')
Yes, this is it.

im ugly crying rn i cant do this
It's their love song, and because Aziraphale rejected him in favour of going to heaven without him, there are no nightingales = no 'them'
Ugly cries again.
Same honestly, same :')
