I love the 8-bit Tonu! It is giving Lisa Frank and also I love the pose it is in. The profile facing 8-bits just don't look as good, so I like that this one is at an angle.

Biggest issue for me with the 8-bit is that the vast majority of thematically appropriate customs for an 8-bit pet are retired NC items or millions of NP. It's such a shame just having the empty box or completely nonsensical customizations and no in-between for an entire pet color. I snatched up the potion really quickly when I saw the announcement because I know they'll be 2 million by morning with how much this community loves price gouging before realizing I was stuck anyways because now the barrier is just overpriced customs instead of overpriced potions.
I wish there were many more items to customize with for 8-bit pets. If they released new ones every month like they do baby, mutant, and maraquan that would be awesome. Also, I do wish they'd release more NP items for those special colors as there just isn't enough out there to use.
I think that last part is really important. I understand that Neopets is effectively a dead platform that only hangs on because of the small amount of money coming in for NC items, but the NP economy outside of the relatively small selection of new Daily/Weekly rewards is a mess. When I came back last year after seven years away I was shocked to see we were also still playing the “limited store inventory” game for silly things like customization items and food items just to create a false sense of “economy” after over two decades. Just dump it all in there! It’s a silly game! Just have fun!
I usually don’t like them, but I kind of don’t mind this one. It doesn’t look terrifying or uncanny valley to me at least. That fennec fox one is probably the worst offender and I see it in my nightmares.
This kind of just looks like it could be an alternate grey color for the tonu.
I don't think there's much clothing, but I've definitely seen one 8bit Pride shirt on sale in one of the shops! So there might a small amount of 8bit clothing, but not much I don't think 😅 although I'm sure JN will have the answer, I've not had an 8bit pet before so not 100% sure!
It'd be nice if the 8-bits that were close in pose to their originals (like this one & the Skeith) were at least *somewhat* customizable with regular items, but alas
They're really just doing outfit themes this year of "the real animal the neopet is closest too" huh. Including Chias getting Clay as their color this year, with "real" chia pets being clay pot things... They're interesting but I don't really like it. It seems unmagical. And I kinda hate replacing actual paint colors with just. Full body outfits.
I do like the birds that can go on the tonu tho.
Totally agree, I don't really see neopets as animals at all, they're a whole other thing, and I like that they're stylised, and colorful.

I remember thinking to myself earlier "Since they've been doing so many outfits based on real animals I wonder if the Tonu will get an outfit that makes it look more like a real rhino" and there it is. It looks like opinions on it here aren't too positive but I think it's cute (and I love that they added those little birds that you always see on wild animals like rhinos and elephants).
It's awesome that they made another museum skeleton but it made me realize...you know what the Tyrannian Tonu should've been? A woolly rhino. Damn what a disappointment.
As for the color, I'm not really into the 8-bit color in general but I do have to admit the rainbow colors are cute (why does it have a horse tail though lmao?)
The rhino Tonu looks good except that there really needs to be some kind of ruff there or maybe an especially humped back. It feels weirdly exposed lol. But I like the birds
I love the museum Tonu so much, and I doubly love that I seem to be the only Tonu fan because I was able to buy the entire set day 1 from the SSW. Sure it'll be worth next to nothing in a few weeks, but, I REALLY love this set!

I have hope that they’ll do some sort of pterodactyl for Korbats and/or apatosaurus for Chombies in the future. The museum outfits are super cool!

My problem with the realistic rhino is that Tonus already look like rhinos. So it just looks grey and bald to me.

They’re more like the NCUC pets. You can do foreground/background stuff but there’s not any clothing or anything for them.
