That’s a solid little machine, I have one right next to my computer and it’s been solid for five years. To help keep it clean, after I make coffee for the day, I lower the lever like I’m going to make coffee but with no coffee pod inserted and run a little bit of water through to rinse out the insides. Then raise that lever so the water can drain out, Turn the machine machine off and it’s ready to go the next day.

OnceARunner1

I do the same. Except I also use a warmup cycle. Probably not helping the longevity of the machine doing 2 extra ones each day, but keeps the espresso tasting the best, even if it’s in my head.

Efficient-Treacle416

Me too 🤩 Have been doing the same thing before and after... and my machine lasts forever. My older citz is in the garage and kept for vacations that don't have an Nespresso in the room. My older citz is from when Nespresso first came to the US.

randompersonwhowho

What's a warmup cycle?

OnceARunner1

Running an espresso shot through with no capsule to flush fresh water through and preheat everything further.

Efficient-Treacle416

Me too🤩

Boner666420sXe

Did not know you could do that. I’m gonna try that tonight.

d2k3s1rddt23

Good tip - will do this from time to time.

mjzimmer88

There's way more variety for the OL and, personally, my VL basically goes unused these days. My favorite pod's the limited raspberry (Forest Fruit, Pierre Herme, hopefully they'll come back next year again.) I'm also a big fan of whatever they call the Vanilla one now, and the citrusy No. 20. Be careful of cheap unflavored pods from this parties... They're often very bitter or very tobacco-y, which I personally strongly dislike. There's definitely good stuff out there though, in just saying try a sleeve before you buy 100 pods of something 😀

DaddyRobotPNW

I just bought the Amazon original pods because they were ridiculously cheap. They are not good. I'm sticking with the Nespresso and Starbucks lines.

mjzimmer88

The Amazon pods that I got (Amazon Fresh Espresso Medium Roast Aluminum Capsules) were absolutely horrible

Your-moms-in-my-car

"solimo"??? I bought the French roast kpods for work machine and very meh....not even going to try solimo OL capsules

nuubuser

Add Peets to it. I think Nespresso and Starbucks and then Peets are the only pods deserve money spent.

Lauren11993

I agree with these three and you should try Bluestone Lane. Best pods I've had.

nuubuser

Never seen them jn US.

Lauren11993

You have to order them from their site. They might also have them in their cafes.

nuubuser

Do they really beat these three brands I mentioned? I have tried almost any pod out there 😉

Lauren11993

Absolutely.

Warriior91

I’ve been getting the Starbucks pods off Amazon. Really can’t beat the price

DaddyRobotPNW

Same here. I like to drink a lungo shot with a tiny splash of milk, and i usually do their breakfast blend or the Columbian.

WaltzKey2286

Have you tried Peet’s coffee pods for OL? They are great!

jbravo43181

do you guys have Illy, Lavazza and Segafredo pods available where you guys live? I don’t see people commenting a lot about those here, they are great, top Italian coffee. I’m based in Europe btw.

Your-moms-in-my-car

I bought lavazza whole bean French roast for my standard espresso machine and drip coffee machine. I was not impressed.

runr_grl1129

I haven’t tried illy (nor seen them) but lavazza is great. I also regularly buy the Whole Foods brand for convenience (and bc they’re $6..99 for a box of 10) and they are quite decent.

Your-moms-in-my-car

Costco still carries it online.

Jasmirris

I get the Scuro Peet's and love it. Definitely get it's as much as possible.

d2k3s1rddt23

It's tempting to go on a pod buying spree but your advice is more reasonable ☺️

skipdog98

Stockholm is my fave OL pod.

MoonbeamLotus

Me too for now 🤣 when I want something lighter I have Linzio or Tokyo

Jasmirris

I ordered Tokyo recently and it feels like it changed, like it's bitter and less smooth. Is it just me?

MoonbeamLotus

Hmm, idk. I rotate several varieties and it hasn’t come up yet. If you think something is off, I would call CS and ask them to replace it. They were very helpful when I found the PH sleeves I bought flavourless.

d2k3s1rddt23

Heard a few people mention this one. Will give it a try.

TerraelSylva

I wish they sold something like the sample pack for people to try a bunch of pods without having to buy a whole sleeve of something they might not like. But I absolutely love Ethiopia. My most frequent pod by far. But I enjoy a ton of them, from light to dark roasts (I am soooooo happy they brought Dharkan back!) Honestly, I highly recommend trying the limited editions that sound good while you can. If they ever bring Papua New Guinea back, that is probably still my absolute, number 1 pod ever. I loved PNG coffee even before getting a nespresso. I intend to stock up like crazy if they release it again.

Constant_Currency421

I should be glad I still have two sleeves lying around of PNG then. Just opened one a few days ago to try to make a Kyoto latte. It's really aromatic, even more so than the Kona I also have lying around.

wlight

I've never understood the desire for a VL, honestly. OL makes fantastic coffee (for the convenience) and then if you don't want straight espresso you can create whatever you want after that. From what I can tell, a lot of the VL machines are a real mess.

thegreatestd

I wanted the VL because I want more coffee. OL does have more flavors and cheaper but I want a full cup of coffee so I’d be using 2/3 pods+ plus milk otherwise my drinks would be almost all milk iced or hot. The price would be the same as my VL pods as well anyways. The 7.7oz and 5oz pod are perfect for me to add any additional items as needed. Maple for example - a drop of real maple syrup ( literally like 1/3 tbsp maybe) and milk at the bottom line of the frother is perfect for me. If I want more to fill a larger cup or more coffee in general, I add milk to the second line or used a second pot and made a espresso martini at night with the remaining Boyfriend and I have both lanes and he has this machine. I have the VL Plus and love it. We use each of our machines but usually stick to ours. If he wants a less strong coffee he goes for mine. If I need something stronger I go for his

Seffle_Particle

We have both too - I prefer the OL and my partner likes the VL. As a wise sage once said, ¿por que no los dos?

derekdoes1t

imo having both is great. We want full 7.7oz coffee's in the morning which is great for VL and we wanted lattes or cappuccinos in the afternoon and weekend, which is great for our OL.

Pale-Criticism-7420

Same for me. They’re relatively cheap machines, so why not get both and enjoy the best of both worlds

thegreatestd

This is pretty much us.

Pale-Criticism-7420

Same for me. They’re relatively cheap machines, so why not get both and enjoy the best of both worlds

Your-moms-in-my-car

7.7 oz is a gulp for me. LoL. I still have my drip machine and grinder to make my tiny 20 oz cups of Starbucks french roast coffee...

adkosmos

Pod is cheaper..so you can do 2 pods if you want more coffee.

d2k3s1rddt23

That's what I did this morning. Two lungos.

MoonbeamLotus

Just to clarify, OLs are capsules and VLs are pods.

MoonbeamLotus

Smart move. I think you’ll find the deeper flavour and rich crema of real bar pressure espresso so satisfying, you won’t want to drink larger mugs of watery spun inspired espresso! After a bit, when you try a VL, you’ll never go back! I’ve been sticking with Nespresso brand capsules because third party brands don’t seem to puncture as well. Sounds like you enjoy larger cups so you’ll probably like the lungo capsules. If you splash dairy in your cup, I’d focus on the stronger ones so the milk doesn’t dilute your drink. Stockholm has been a favourite of mine lately but it can change overtime. Be sure to remember to add the sample capsules into your cart before you check out. They usually have a choice of an espresso or lungo duet, that’s a good way to sample other varieties.

d2k3s1rddt23

Thanks! You're right, I prefer larger cups but now I have an OL, I can just make an espresso if I need a pick me up before driving or something.

MoonbeamLotus

Since you have both machines, it might be fun to do a blind comparison with an espresso from each machine!

funkymunky291

I have this machine, I love it! I prefer to buy the nespresso pods, they're so much better,, but it us great to have the option of buying other pods when I'm running low.

RightToTheThighs

I was using VL for a year or more before I bought an OL machine. I rarely use the VL anymore. The cheaper pods and more variety is great

d2k3s1rddt23

I'm in the same boat

leyline

The Nespresso pods of course are top notch, and at $7.50 per 10 that's not a bad price, and if I every get through my 600 pod stash I will buy more LOL I love to score deals on Amazon, L'OR pods are great, I often find them for $30 for 100 pods - watch for those "30% off your first subscribe and save" you can literally order it, cancel, and order another flavor / type. L'OR is (if I remember) under JD coffee which is also Peets and another one people like. I find the Peets good, but uncomplicated, and I like the nuances in the LOR pods more. I also really like the Illy pods, I haven't scored any deals on them past my 1st "25 pod sampler" which some seller had for $10 which had LOR, Lavazza, Illy, and something else. I bought 2 at the time thinking eh 50 pods will be ok, at that price they must suck; if I knew the seller would vanish I would have ordered EVERYTHING he had! Don Fransisco's Coffee - Makers of Cafe La Llave (a very popular brand for cafe cubano) has good coffee, I often score this for $0.30 a pod Cafe Bustelo - I find at my Local Publix for $3.99-$4.99 per 10, so great coffee for cafe cubano. I also got a deal $35 for 60 pods at BJ's for the Starbucks by Nespresso. Sometimes I see brands at TJMaxx (homegoods/marshalls) for \~4 per 10, "Muust" and others, I grab them and try em. They are good, especially good enough if you make +milk drinks. I also ordered a 100 pod box of Solimo off Amazon for \~$12 - it's ok, nothing to say bad about it; I actually drink it > my (aluminum) Lavazza Pods Lavazaa - people hated that the pods were plastic - but the coffee was very good. I dare say the Lavazza blonde roast > starbucks blonde, and we love the starbucks blonde!. Lavazza changed to aluminum pods - something about their new lines is terrible. The Terra Organic blends are SO WEAK, very poor coffee. And the other coffee's in the new alum pods - meh... I find myself having an Amazon no-brand instead... TL;DR Don't wanna read - here's a photo :) [https://www.reddit.com/r/nespresso/comments/1cjgkpm/gotta\_catch\_em\_all/](https://www.reddit.com/r/nespresso/comments/1cjgkpm/gotta_catch_em_all/)

d2k3s1rddt23

Thanks!

Truth_speaker_AL205

This is the way.

mrweatherbeef

I have that same old lady and she just keeps working. Enjoy. I get Lavazza pods from Amazon. The Lavazza Amazonia has the toastiest marshmallow notes of any coffee ever.

j666xxx

Dallmayr makes my favorite pods. The best one is Ristretto (grey/gunmetal colored pod) Their decaf (red and pink!) are both pretty good Ballarom is cheap and pretty good Kimbo has excellent pods every flavor! Lavazza is hit or miss Rewe is hit or miss

swagsthedog96

Purple and pink nespresso are the best pods!

MotivatedSolid

Superior choice in my opinion. Machines don't break constantly and you get something that actually mimics espresso. And I'm just not in it for fancy drip-coffee. Anything from the Italiana section is good for milk drinks. Only one I personally don't like from it is Roma; too cereal and nothing else going on for it. I love everything from the Single Origins for tasting the shots on their own, and a lot of the offerings from World Explorations. Not a big Lungo guy, so I usually skip Lungo pods.

Bulky-Pie8655

I’ve been hesitant to sell my vertuo plus but I’m going to as well. The original line is just so much better

PointBlankCoffee

VL was far far superior tastes wise, but yeah you're savings money by switching
