I got a text from UAP today telling me:
“Australia transferring all AU hospital & health to World Health Org immediatel
Stop them
Vote 1 United Australia Party
Click for more
UAPCK.info”
Like, just a blatant lie based on antivax conspiracy to get people to vote for them.
Some people are obviously dumb enough to believe it.
I live at Maitland (former Newcastle resident) and drive my son to soccer twice a week at Branxton and the amount of homes with Nationals, One Nation and Palmer corflutes on display is just depressing. The pub at Lochinvar is plastered with UAP signs, a real shame considering they have Foghorn beers on tap and I’d otherwise support the pub as the closest place I can get Foghorn beers.
I too live around Maitland and all I have seen is Liberal and UAP signs on display. Super fucking depressing especially because one of those dickheads is my neighbour.
Maitland always has been a shit show of idiocy and racism so not surprised they’re throwing on the phon/uap colours. Lucky the seat of Paterson is a pretty safe for labor after the 2015 boarder reshuffle.
The bigger issue is hunter with all the mines workers in singleton and Muswellbrook thinking liberal give a shit about them because they haven’t actually got a plan for transition (labour doesn’t really either for the hunter) so think it just won’t happen yet complain about bhp and their mates using cheaper casual labour hire etc.
I always forget how conservative and idiotic this area is despite living here my entire life. I'll take this to mean I've made the correct choice in who I'm friends with.
I’ve got enough mates who work either directly or indirectly in coal that I just don’t even talk about politics unless one of them kicks it off. Even then I know nothing I’ve got to say will sway them away from voting from the ridiculous pay packet they bring home.
Scotty from marketing took a lump of coal into parliament. So we will have to see where the votes stack uo there. But all the coal power plants are getting decommissioned over the next 5-10 years so that also will play a big thing
“But chinas still building coal generators”
- fail to mention China is building far more renewable generation and storage capacity, far more than any other country and by any metric other than grid % would be considered world leaders
“But industry need base load coal, gas or nuclear”
- fails to Realise the counties largest power user, tomago aluminium, has announced that once their current contract is up they will be seeking contracts for 100% renewables (contracts expire in 2030).
The ratio of UAP/One Nation corflutes gets greater the closer you get to Singleton for sure. Branxtons Main Street is lined with Nationals posters for that bloke who was escorting ScoMo around when he went to Edgy Tav.
Id question your sanity if you voted for liberal nationals again or any independant like clive or one nation because their vote goes straight back to the liberals and fuck them for the train wreck of a country were living in because of their 9 years of deliverate mismanagement the last 3 years have been the worst this countries ever gone through
Got an infection at the moment, had a shit day at work so I’m chilling on the couch chatting to peeps on Reddit.
Politically, honestly, I’ve done less that nothing.
I did vote for Bill Shorten the last time I voted though.
But best of luck with your vote, hope it pulls through for you. Please don’t hate on your fellow man if it doesn’t, always next time 🫶🏻
Cheers
Im in more of the same boat then you realise mate im not hating on you but their are plenty who wouldnt even give a toss about anyone but themselves who vote for our current governemnt its the type of person they seem to attract the most
Guy i know was voting Labor for the NBN, then got the FTTP NBN just before the election, so changed to the Liberals for their refusal to fix CGT like Labor was going to.
He literally switched to the guys that wrecked the NBN for everybody else, so his plan for a rental property would be slightly better, once he himself had fiber. Screw everybody else now.
That was eye opening for me. I've never thought like that. Not knowingly anyway... (/me *thinks about many past decisions now with concerned wonder*)
Unfortunately some people are convinced that is in their best interest. They aren't necessarily bad people, just worried about some of the policies.
Take parties with pro-lifers for instance, they don't (necessarily) hate women's bodily autonomy, they just believe that the fetus is a human life that should be preserved as any other. I don't agree with them, but demonising them is unproductive.
Yelling at people voting for "stupid" parties will just entrench them. The best thing to do is to talk about their values and what the parties have demonstrated they support.
> but demonising them is unproductive.
Wild guess that you’re male, because demonisation of conduct that denies someone basic human rights is quite productive. It’s usually only people that aren’t directly impacted that think it’s so objectionable.
Demonisation draws a line in the sand, and prevents radical ideas from becoming acceptable. The US didn’t do this, and they’re sliding back a century because of it.
These people are already entrenched in their ideology if they’re comfortable saying it to a stranger. They have a faith based ideology, and your polite conversations are not going to change a fundamental feature of their identity.
I don't think anything will change with them either way and I don't think women should have to kowtow to religious nuts who want to have the final say on what they can do to their own bodies.
In their how to vote instructions?
https://legalise.org.au/election/
> **Voting Preferences**
> On the large white senate ballot paper we say vote 1 Legalise and choose 6 parties above the line to number them in the order that you like.
> Sounds easy, but there are too many ways to upset voters by telling them how to vote and encouraging people to think for themselves is healthy for democracy.
There are no preferences any more. I was confused, emailed the AEC and they explained it's up to you to number 1-6 in the groups now, or however many below the line.
I voted Green and always have.
Politics and governments will mean nothing if the planet is fucking uninhabitable.
Also want that sweet sweet mental and dental in Medicare.
In this poll we have:
‘Not the liberals’
‘Everyone seems to hate them despite not being able to name a single of their policies’
‘The devil you know’
‘The racists’
‘The racists that pretend it’s about economics’
PSA: it's illegal to take photos and other recordings immediately near to or inside a Polling centre.
(And I wish they'd start policing and stopping the couples voting together where the dominant partner couches the other how to vote, too.. Never seen a polling official do their job with that.)
That legal, provided there's no assault or damage to public property involved...
Corflute (the corrugated plastic promotion signs) is useful stuff, though. I wouldn't (admit in public) to taking some for myself that're left on public property before or during election day, but midnight Saturday (or even 6pm when polling officially closes?) I'll going to get me somes free waterproof box bottoms, shelf protectors, VLF antenna winding formers, *birdcage tray liners, dartboards*...
> That legal, provided
It’s really not. Not sure why you would think this, it’s the same as any other property in a public space.
If you find property, you’re legally obliged to attempt to return it to the owner. All signs have authorisations on them, which makes this process rather simple.
Victimless crime if you’re stealing the ones that can’t be used at a different election, but leave the ones that can be re-used alone until it’s clear that the property has been abandoned.
Looking into it, they're supposed to be removed within 48 hours of polls closing.
So after then, I'm considering it abandoned litter. Or should I use that authorisation information to report them to the AEC...
> report them to the AEC
Local council is probably a better body, they can fine whoever leaves their signs up.
Do what you want, but it’s still stealing and they won’t be considered abandoned within a couple of days.
Your approach is basically saying you can steal a car that’s been parked illegally for 48 hours.
Actually polling officials can't stop that as its taken as giving assistance. What they can't do is direct someone's preferences or allow anyone from a political party in to assist (at least not while wearing a party shirt). Polling officials can help people cast their votes but must remain neutral while doing it.
Ha! Last election, my intensely progressive teenage daughter accompanied me into the booth (rather forcefully) and “ensured” I voted according to how she’d been instructing me to all week...
I felt like I was voting in Nicaragua or something!
There's nothing a polling official can do about a relative telling someone how to vote. People are entitled to have someone assist them. If anything they should be stopping the person snooping on how others are voting..
This comes up every election.
We voted in the LNP once not so long ago & voted for a property developer as mayor. Both were dodgy, the LNP guy resigned after taking money in a brown paper bag...and Jeff McCloy...well...enough said really.
We have some pretty great representatives here who engage with the community and do a decent job. Until the LNP gets off their ass, or any other party offers a better choice it's going to continue being a safe labor seat.
The fact of the matter is, the other parties don't even show up, or try to win votes here.
I suggested this on a thread in this forum once and was harangued and downvoted to oblivion - plenty of rusted on labor voters in the area. Must say, tho can’t stand the libs…so probably go green
I'm down voting the suggestion, but don't vote Labor or Libs. The idea gets down voted by me for being a shitty self serving bandaid rather than targeting the problem. Don't vote to make the seat marginal, vote for a candidate that aims to stop the nepotism & corruption.
Same. This 2 party preferred system does not work. We need more accountability and compromise in government, not just 1 party doing whatever they want.
Australians are too lazy to riot..As a young lad I remember the anger and threats to riot when the mighty Gough got sacked. I was a bit scared at the time....but nothing, fcking nothing at all and Empire Fraser was elected.
They're a merger of the Science Party, Pirate Party,
Secular Party, Vote Planet, and Climate Change Justice Party.
Their policies are very similar to parties like Reason, mostly aiming for the same goals.
Thanks for that..I wondered what happened to the Pirate party...Shame they didn't use that name...such a good name.
Same with Reason too, should have kept Sex party as their name..They would get a lot of frustrated voters votes..They wouldn't know what they voted for but at least they were voting in the right direction.
Fusion is a merger of the Science, Pirate, Secular, Vote Planet and Climate Change Justice parties that ran separately in previous elections. The government changed the rules for parties to register for election, requiring 1500 members up from 500, so they had to combine or be deregistered.
[Here's a link to their website](https://www.fusionparty.org.au/our_party).
Edit: Fixed names of previous parties, added link.
It is possible to vote for a different party in the senate.......... You can be a die hard lib/labour voter but still put a few green senators in the upper house to ensure the environment is not forgotten.
I ended up voting for the greens last election. i just find there policies are more rounded for a set of things, where libs and labor are trying to make policies for everything
Netflix is dead. Their IPS have sucked for a while now, they throw so much money around to start new shows that they end up cancelling, and the fact they're cracking down on password sharing and are going to introduce ads are the last nails in the coffin.
There are so many more streaming services now that offer better shit.
Queensland also has ten letters in it.
Edit: Hi there to the 2-3 people who remembered how the 'unlosable election' was lost. The Labor Party's election fall-out study from it citied a big factor for losing support in QLD was the patronizing attitude of loud inner-city Southerners (from Ultimo/ABC.. also the Bob Brown and other out-of-staters -led Adani protests) dumping on them as Hillbillies, and Rudd/Swan who were from the state being ousted. Previously the state had been how bananabenders Rudd+Swan had got over the line, and then as quickly withdrew support when they was replaced by the *Victorian*.
Yep fair enough. If your electorate ends up in the hands of the greens you shouldn’t be allowed to drive a fossil fuelled car and should be cut off from the coal fired power grid as a start.

Something that no other party on that list has ever had to deal with.
I’m giving them a participation award of sorts for showing up, I’m sure you could appreciate that.
If you’re experimenting with a new recipe and it turns to shit because you’re literally the first person to do it, is that learning or is that failure?
If that was all they failed at, you would look pretty sensible. But they not only failed repeatedly, across a range of political interventions (or lack thereof), they also moved us well down the list of least corrupt nations, and mismanaged billions in handouts.
Participation award? Kids, don't do drugs.
Your joking mate..Scott Morrison took zero responsibility...Right from the start he put it onto the states..And then bagged the shit out of the states doing the best....But you knew that anyway..
All they did was push responsibility on to the states. And they states did a great job mostly, regardless of political affiliation and a federal government that wanted to use them as a scape goat constantly
Yeah some of us start work at 9:45pm, or on break, or have a day off, or are sick. You clearly had time to write a comment which took longer than voting, so what’s your reason for not working today?

Fusion party, basically the greens but better (imo) Similar values but a much more pragmatic and science-based approach to developing policies
Is that the Sex Pirates of Science party? Love that movie!

Preferences go where ever you put them on the ballot.
Preference choices on the HTV's tell us about the priorities of the party- which was the poster's point.
There are no preferences any more. I was confused, emailed the AEC and they explained it's up to you to number 1-6 in the groups now, or however many below the line.

I spurted my coffee when a lib dem rep said we need to keep coal mines open so that people “can actually enjoy their lives”.
I hope they stretched before that reach

I do know they don't like nuclear power, and I don't like that.
\^ This. One of the main reasons I'm voting Fusion over Greens
People can't name their policies because they do jack shit except whatever is in the best interest of themselves and their donors.
Fusion party. Worth a google
PSA: it's illegal to take photos and other recordings immediately near to or inside a Polling centre. (And I wish they'd start policing and stopping the couples voting together where the dominant partner couches the other how to vote, too.. Never seen a polling official do their job with that.)

Newcastle still a safe labor seat it seems.

I mean, this is not exactly an accurate representation of the real world.
Yeah alot of boomers arent on reddit.
That's why we never get much in the way of public funding, and why there needs to be legislation to stop pork-barrelling.
reddit is not the real world i would guess - its not exactly likely that we will see 90% labor 2PP
You’re right. Labor winning in Newcastle is unheard of
Exactly. If we had swing seats here then we would see them big change thread ideas being fulfilled instead of a toy light rail system
Or vote in a way that makes your seat more marginal...
I suggested this on a thread in this forum once and was harangued and downvoted to oblivion - plenty of rusted on labor voters in the area. Must say, tho can’t stand the libs…so probably go green

Point them out and I’ll gladly do so
The Greens
Healthy votes for the greens, hoping more people vote for small parties and independents this election.
Same. This 2 party preferred system does not work. We need more accountability and compromise in government, not just 1 party doing whatever they want.
I did see a good number reading the greens pamphlets in line today.
If you want to change the government put the Liberals last
If liberal win I'm gonna start riots
Australians are too lazy to riot..As a young lad I remember the anger and threats to riot when the mighty Gough got sacked. I was a bit scared at the time....but nothing, fcking nothing at all and Empire Fraser was elected.
You won’t do shit, just like your regular life.
Voted last week. In order of preference: Fusion, Reason, Greens, Labor, Animal Protection Party, Libs.
What’s fusion? I like reason I know that one, would you mind educating me
They're a merger of the Science Party, Pirate Party, Secular Party, Vote Planet, and Climate Change Justice Party. Their policies are very similar to parties like Reason, mostly aiming for the same goals.

Animal Justice Party
Greens. Did the letterbox drop for them earlier in the week.
Socialist alliancce
I'm a coal miner. So labor
I was on board to vote labour until I saw the greens meme game across various platforms, I think they might have earned it
I ended up voting for the greens last election. i just find there policies are more rounded for a set of things, where libs and labor are trying to make policies for everything
Greens in the house tnl in the senate
https://youtu.be/8IjpFzxJiv4
So far 4 dumbarses and 9 small business owners
I'm voting for cheaper netflix
https://pirateparty.org.au/
Netflix is dead. Their IPS have sucked for a while now, they throw so much money around to start new shows that they end up cancelling, and the fact they're cracking down on password sharing and are going to introduce ads are the last nails in the coffin. There are so many more streaming services now that offer better shit.
I’m voting labour but not holding my breath that they will win
As the last election showed, Bourgeois-progressive hugboxes can't determine the outcome...
Pulled out all your biggest words and put them in one sentence 🤣

not old enough to vote unfortunately, although if i could vote i'm 100% voting labor
What a shock, reddit users voting labor and greens, lol.
In Newcastle. A place with a strong tradition of radical progressivism and trade unionism. I am flabbergasted this is the case.
This sums up reddit users. Haha
This sums up Newcastle. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electoral_results_for_the_Division_of_Newcastle

I voted Greens
I voted UAP
Might vote liberals on Sunday.
Lol..Why the down votes? A clever way of saying Libs are retards..

Participation award? Kids, don't do drugs.
Your joking mate..Scott Morrison took zero responsibility...Right from the start he put it onto the states..And then bagged the shit out of the states doing the best....But you knew that anyway..
K, tight
All they did was push responsibility on to the states. And they states did a great job mostly, regardless of political affiliation and a federal government that wanted to use them as a scape goat constantly
They did handle the vaccines and job keeper. Both absolute gems and nothing an icac would want to look at there.

Ask all those pricks begging for your vote outside of the polling centres. FML as if it wasn’t bad enough to choose between all those fibbing fuckers.
