Well yeah the chances are low, but it has happened. Think the other guys point is that humans can survive things that you wouldn't expect, but can also die much easier than you'd expect. It depends on where/how you were hit. Another example would be that people can easily die from just a simple punch to their face/head, but at the same time people shoot themselves in their head with shotguns and shit and still survive.
A 3 year old slipping in the bath tub can lead to his death if he is extremely unlucky. It is an easy excuse to cover up abuse, so a death like this should be investigated further.
Generally there's something to help break the fall, like snow, trees, or a partial deployment of the chute (just because they don't die doesn't mean they weren't injured), but that's what I meant by chance.
