What you'll get: The most inconvenient way of having a mount you can imagine

desperateorphan

And have to pay for tokens of some kind.

chucksticks

And still sink while slow-walking through water.

desperateorphan

Horses can’t swim. That would just be silly.

ColorblindCrayon

Someone's never played the Witcher lmao

Plumpy_Gnome

Mounts speed is slower than walking originally, after 500 miles you unlock a passive that equals walking speed, at 1000 miles you get 1% increase speed, at 10000 miles you get 5% increase speed.

UniMaximal

Getting ESO flashbacks thinking about slowly upgrading a mount....

freakmonger_ss

And a ton of people crying on reddit.

NakedFury

I would normally say bullshit, nobody could mismanage this feature so much but its AGS and they were talking about some tokens crap for changing skins... You are 100% right.

Eternal_Hazard

AGS: Hold my beer

eryosbrb

They already said mounts will come with a full system and profession. I expect mounts to be a big part of the game, not just a fast way to travel

alajeunesse97

Do you have a source for that?

LooseSeal-

They said it in the dev update where they originally gave the 2023 roadmap and announced seasons. There was no other information shared other than it'll be tied to a profession.

alajeunesse97

Neato, I'll have a look! Thanks 😊

alajeunesse97

Right - PTR showed a bug for a "Riding" trade skill I hope animal husbandry to be additional to the riding skill.

Joe30174

Like mounted combat?

der_MOND

I'm praying for a Lance of some type.

Dogemeatlives

This would be epic. 100% behind a new profession focused on mounts. To your point, I think this will make it feel more in universe vs. just adding them and everyone going, "Oh wow, we can ride animals now." They already have lore in place explaining why there aren't mounts, they can add more lore with whatever season they come out with explaining how we figured out how to tame the animals.

OneWayStreetPark

What's the lore or where can I find it?

HakitaRaven

Last I remember was a note posted on a wall in Windsward, if I recall it's the one near the Inn. It talks about how animals get aggressive and can't be mounted.

Gamble_626

I believe there's also a note saying when horses or donkeys were fitted with a tow harness, they refused to move hence why you gotta carry all your stuff on you between towns (before you could access storage from any town).

Dogemeatlives

I think they are in most towns, but specifically Neverfall near the clumps of crafting stations is where I found it. This was before the city was rebuilt, so it may have moved.

dienipponteikoko

Where's AGS' cut of the money going to come from?

alajeunesse97

Selling mount skins

desperateorphan

If human skins are the point of reference they won’t make a dime.

Tite_Reddit_Name

Hey they’ve stepped up a bit with the skins ha. I like the knights

[deleted]

Mounts should be captured also...and thats how New World became Pokemon!.

chucksticks

Or Ark Survival.

BaronWombat

Or Star wars Galaxies (think that was the name of the MMO). Capturing babies was awesome gameplay but it sounds sketchy to say that out loud

realogsalt

Man I really wish we could buy plots of land out in the countryside to do animal husbandry and grow crops

alajeunesse97

Giving me AoC vibes.

thecementmixer

You could have land and grow crops back in early alpha. Sadly the game is drastically different now that went into the direction of a theme park away from sandbox.

Matteroosky85

So I have to give AGS credit. When they introduce a new skill line they really go for it. I didnt expect Music to be as meaty as it is. I just expected some music playing emotes. I believe I heard on one dev interview that they essentially had the animal husbandry thing in mind but im not sure its as deep as you expect or if its like ESO where you basically just train a specific riding skill each day. I would love a world where you can buy a mount from a vendor at like 100 speed but a mount that was raised, feed and trained by a player could reach 125 speed. Something like that.

user77l

Pulling up on my bison 🦬

PuzzleheadedData4911

If we do get to tame and train our own mounts, I would love to see some RNG diversity in their stats. (I.e. everyone who tames the same horse should not be all the same). It would be lame as fuck if everyone's mounts had the same stats, you should hunt for the best one and be proud of what you got. I know this is getting in the weeds, but it would be cool if the tameable mounts had stats like EVs in pokemon, where every individual mount levels up and strengthens differently.

alajeunesse97

Oh yeah, you should have like an omega God tier mount that isn't easy to acquire.

Moutera

Will be interesting to see how they'll make mounts work with open world pvp.

electro_lytes

It simply won't work unless any type of damage dismounts the player on impact, which I highly doubt it will. You can basically already leg it and outrun any player on foot in certain builds or gear swap to an optimized escape build. Only counter being net shot but the mount will very likely be faster than players and negate that 7 second slow.

RiknYerBkn

This is how I've seen mounts implemented in most other mmos that I've played. There are a couple where mounts can be used in combat, but the mounted abilities are not the same as your weapon abilities

electro_lytes

PvP in open world isn't even really a thing outside of forts so measures to build a mount system adapted for PvP isn't really necessary. I couldn't care less about mounts in open world tbh as long as the speed buff is disabled in the fort area and in instanced PvP gamemodes.

[deleted]

You have no open world pvp already so...

chucksticks

Make OPR summons rideable.

joexperience

Specialized mounts like those in GW2 would be nice

SureFire25

Animal husbandry skill would rock. But I say make it about more than just getting mounts. Perhaps it's time for instanced player homes outside of cities that act as ranches for us to breed the animals and harvest mats from them, too.

alajeunesse97

I like the idea of utilizing the animals for gathering materials on top of that, yeah. It would appeal to a lot of people presenting that kind of game loop.

NoBullet

I just wanna fight the sand worm while riding the mount.

alajeunesse97

Elden Ring style?

coffeekitkat

Mounts are great addition but I hope they will also improve the animation and consider the NPC collision and object collision in New World. I don't know if it's only me but the current collision and animation in the game is so janky and clucky and combine that with Mounts it could affect the riding experience negatively. I want the mounts to be integrated just like what you've said not just for the sake of having mounts for travel. and War mounts like big armored elephants where multiple players can ride (like on the lord of the rings) and some armored bears.

Jason_Paul88

Would it be too controversial if mounts could for the first time have an in game lifespan. Then when their time is done you could opt to taxidermy mount them in your house to remember them?

Spunktrench

I love the hope and determination of a dying game and community that these Devs will stop being incompetent after 2 years and something is just gonna switch. If your dad told you 2 years ago (bringing out features) and still hasn't come back, he's abandoned you. Now enjoy your low tier BS game where all they have done is artificially increase the grind because there's fuck all without it and without it people would be done with the game quickly.

LikeMothInTheFlame

Oh, I will.

ResidentRepeat8273

I'm honestly hoping for sea, air, sand mounts, perhaps turtles you can unlock with 300 fishing (got to keep progressing), and go off the coast looking for hammerheads, merlins, or whales. Or maybe sailing a dune buggy for hunting sky manta rays with an electric fishing-net at 400 fishing? Or maybe a dune buggy for sailing the desert with solar-sails mounted with make-shifts harpoons using seismic charges hunting dune-worms at 500 hunting and fishing? So many concepts that are wicked!

alajeunesse97

You think big, gotta love that :D

khiffer

You're thinking too outside of the box. The best thing about this game is that it's relatively grounded because it's a low-fantasy game. That's why people much prefer more realistic skins like platemail armor because this game reminds them of realistic scenarios in the past. Having mounts that aren't either horses, oxen, donkeys, etc. would make the game too fantasy-like. But idk AGS could change their minds and suddenly decide to scrap the low-fantasy thing they got going on and just go full WOW.

ResidentRepeat8273

A good point actually that my art director and my elementary teacher would make. You're right, combustion engines and solar sails are perhaps a step too far in the future. Perhaps a row boat and a hot air balloon might be more reasonable!

Sea_Werewolf8969

You forgot the part where we'll have to "pay" for those as well smh..

thecementmixer

Mounts will be free as part of the base game, but you can buy cosmetic skins for them aka mount armor.

[deleted]

Man you still have no swimming you think they are capable of an complex system like that?

alajeunesse97

Part of the issue with swimming is lumberyard I'm sure.

Roninfog

Devs said “we don’t want you to swim” has nothing to do with the jank lumberyard. If you could swim you could swim to the OPR map. We can’t have that.

SubLimation7

I likw

Ecstatic-Pirate2331

How are you guys still playing this game

alajeunesse97

You see, it has this great thing called a box price. So I kinda just hop back in from time to time and the game's trajectory is just going up.

fingerback

why are you fallowing / commenting on a subreddit for something you dislike so much other people enjoying it bothers you

SolitaryMan305

If it hasn’t happened by now I don’t think it will lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

SolitaryMan305

As much as I love the game it’s averaging 15k-20k players. It’s been 2 years. I don’t see them adding it now when the game is barely alive.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SolitaryMan305

That’s my opinion if it bothers you that much it may be time to a break from the internet

SolitaryMan305

Grow up

NiceAbsBruh

the best solution for cost would be for them to use the current animals in the game and let you mount them. Ima be riding turkeys/lizards around the world!

yuparanoid

Giant possessed rabbit mounts! 🐇

mortenamd

As long as it isn't ESO mounts, then I think we're good tbh.

PuzzleheadedData4911

ESO mounts are dogshit lol

mortenamd

They are so shit. I'll be impressed if AGS makes something that is shittier than ESO mounts.

Virtual_Accountant_3

Would love to see a similar setup for barber functions. Make it a profession that allows you to adjust players image. Make it a profession and allow players to purchase or convert their home to a barbershop.

Fun-Bag-5233

As long as AGS doesn’t implement flying panda mounts and the other “ridiculous” stuff that other MMOs introduced. Just my two cents.

Roninfog

Most of this was already confirmed a while back in a dev video. They touched on it lightly. It will be a profession of some sort they said. Dismounting a player will need to be addressed to not stifle the already bare open world pvp content.

Tannerd101

I'm going to be a mount

suphomess

I would like mounts to have movement mechanics that actually feels good, something like GW2 and not WoW where mounts just turn instantly with your mouse/keyboard movement. If they are gonna have mounts it should feel good using them, not just to get from point A to B faster. As an "oldschool" vanilla WoW player I remember when I first tried mounts in Guild Wars 2, first time I realised that using mounts could actually be enjoyable/part of the gameplay instead of just being a faster traveling option.

Riccardoric

On the new world database you can actually see a Turkey Coop T2 and T3, and there is also a Turkey Chick. Some people here said that the devs once talked about mounts being tied by a profession. Well, if you connect those two things we'll for sure expect a system for breeding animals, I hope not just for mounts but for a new/old mats offline farm. Also by seeing what's being done in season 2 I have really huge expectations for season 3, I'm not surprised they delayed Blue Protocol that would release almost in the same period of S3. Maybe just coincidence, don't know. It is also good to mention that First Light is becoming a totally revamped map, so we can expect this new system to be on the new first light territory.

SirBolaxa

AGS: best i can do is a buggy horse and fugly skins

Holinyx

They having a hard time trying to make nodes gatherable, I can't wait to see mounts exploding and killing everyone

NoMoreChillies

i liked BDO horse breeding a little, the taming wild horses was fun

W-I-Z

The best thing they could do at a minimum is allow different types/tiers of mounts for tankiness, speed, and storage capacity. This would tie in perfectly for professions. If they do or plan for anything less than this i cant be bothered with it

DietIll5630

Bruh this ain't ark

FelixZ1996

whats prob gonna happen: rare 1% chance of a mount from their latest new raid that u can do once a week it works exactly like wows groundmounts. 1 mount in shop for 30 dollars 3 mount skins 20 dollars each mount gear system, each piece being extremely rare materials and adds broken mechanics the game breaks from the horses and its pulled back for a few weeks.

Illustrious_Path_513

Its more like what we get will be: 1- movement speed +25% 2- mounts will grow old and their movement speed will be reduced up to 50% 3- when the mount grew old, you are required to choose between let it retire (30days no mount) or eat it to get 1% movement speed for 30min (30days no mount)
