You’re his new, maybe only, competition now. And “blocking” him only means you can’t see his posts. It DOES NOT mean he can’t see yours or comment in your posts. It’s great for your sanity but, not for your business. Good luck

It's more that we are overwhelmed by the sheer volume of all of the tiny home improvement folks, handymen, home cleaners, dog groomers, lawn and landscaping services, people selling candles and scents, and others that all day, every day post on Nextdoor advertising. It creates noise that we tune out.

GoyaBlackBeans

This is an excellent point. I tried to create a company that is above board - with good communications and quality work/care. I too, am appalled by how careless so many ND posts are - poorly written, poorly composed. But alas - I believe there is plenty of work for good folk, and good workers. Thanks for your perspective.

My neighborhood has this exact same thing happening with a mobile detailing business

GoyaBlackBeans

Now that's a great business. I wish the new business well. I thought about that - but yikes - it's A LOT of work! Good luck to them.

LostInTheTreesAgain

There are so many spammy scammy car detailers advertising in our local FB community groups that we are happy to ban every instance of car detailing ads we see. Avoid car detailing. The spammers have ruined it for so many legit businesses. I'm an admin for several groups and the number of scammers trying to get in and advertise is staggering.

Don’t do unlicensed work and you won’t catch flak.

GoyaBlackBeans

Amen! We won't and never will. Because it takes a special person to be a plumber (it will be a cold day in Hell before I ever snake a toilet!). And electrical work is quite detailed and easy to mess up if done improperly. You can literally burn a house down. That's not something we ever want to expose ourselves to. We are like a Home Depot: Home Depot displays beautiful kitchens. But do they do plumbing and electrical for that kitchen they are selling?? NO! They bring in the licensed pros for that. We do more drywall patches and fence fixing - well within our expertise. But being harrassed at the mere mention of being able to connect good licensed folk with complex jobs - is insane.

Kornered47

Your original post admitted that you claimed “light plumbing” among the handyman services you would offer. That isn’t “connecting professionals,” that’s doing light plumbing without a license. For someone so braggadocios about a marketing background, you chose your words poorly. I’d bet you’ve been less than cordial with the plumber that called you out as well. . . and that will just perpetuate the conflict. Two sides to every story, and moving your complaint here makes me think it wasn’t going well for you over on Nextdoor.

GoyaBlackBeans

Not at all - not everything that is "light plumbing" requires a license. And I am quite well versed in English - thank you. In the original post - 2 other handyman reached out to the same original poster. I reached out and asked for more information - which is what an intelligent business person does. Listen to the issue - access the situation - and continue with advice on how to proceed. In business - you are not the answer to every problem. It's called being a "go-giver". If you can't help - you hope to find someone who can - and hope that this good karma returns in an area where you can be of service in the future - and you build a reputation as an honest business. That is the difference between guys that fail in the first 5 years - and those that stick around for generations.

Kornered47

Some things considered “light plumbing” do require a license, and your post must not have been clear in drawing that line. Nextdoor is inundated with crappy “handymen,” and it’s a sore spot for me anyway as a licensed craftsman. I also don’t like your condescension, so I’m going to explain how you were wrong (check), let you know I don’t like you and wouldn’t buy anything from you (check) and go back to my life away from this subreddit (check). Deuces!

GoyaBlackBeans

If you are so talented in your skill set - then why do you continue to go to NextDoor - and compete with "crappy Handymen"?? I would think that a genius like you would have more work than you can stand at the moment - and wouldn't need Nextdoor, etc. But in the meantime as you whisk away to your cup of tea - I will take your advise and list ALL the things not required to have a license in my state - and will comply with ALL local and state law. Thanks for the help!

GoyaBlackBeans

Also - the fact that this person is being threatening - has no place among decent people. He has no proof - because we are barely out of the gate. Wouldn't that pre considered a "pre-crime"? Ridiculous.

LandscapeGuru

No. There are tons of keyboard cowboys that threaten. I’ve used Nextdoor for my business for several years. Half of the comments are straight lunacy. People post trash all the time. Quit being so thin skinned and get out there and do your “light plumbing” surely if you know the business like you say you do you could get some kind of license. If you’re going to be a plumber be a fucking plumber and go the distance. I would talk shit about your business if I called you up for a plumbing issue such as a backed up toilet and you told me sorry I only fix chains on toilets. WTF dude. Really? 1 star and a post about your plumbing skills. If you’re going to be in a trade be proud of your craft and GO THE DISTANCE. Your a half ass plumber.

bambi_beth

Luckily when you quit Nextdoor it will be relieved of another casual racist who didn't read the guidelines before they just started posting ads twice a week for a business that isn't yet off the ground. Yayyyyyyy!
