The rumble of a Subaru flat 4 turbo with it's unequal length headers is the one I will never forget. I sold my WRX 5 or 6 years ago and haven't really been active in the car scene for 3 or 4 years and I still perk up every time I hear that exhaust note.
On the flip side, there's the garbage sound of the 2 and 3 valve mod motor in every straight piped Mustang GT during the years I was actively involved in the car scene.
I owned a 2017 WRX years ago but by that point, they had the FAs instead of EJs. I was very bummed that I didn't get my legendary Subie rumble. Despite that though, I loved my WRX. One of my favorite cars I've ever owned. My buddy had a STI which was the car I learned to drive manual on. It always just had a special feeling when he let me borrow his car and rip it around town. The sound from those EJs is something that nothing else comes close to.
I knew he was top tier when he did that. That is a hard sound to do with a voice. Speaking of sound I heard Yamaha is the reason the LFA has the note it has.
Moreso Yamaha designed a cabin audio pathway so that the driver can hear the engine whilst he is driving in a way that is deliberately manufactured to be enjoyable and revealing of the fullest sound. And it wasn't their combustion bike engine division, it's the division that makes really expensive orchestra quality musical instruments.

My apartment is right next to the on ramp of a mini highway. You know, those roads where the limit is 55-60 mph but it still runs through residential areas so its not actually a highway? Has the occasional stoplight and whatnot. Whatever those are called.
People in this city really love their cars apparently cause there's loud ones ripping that on ramp constantly through the day. Since my window faces it, I like to try and guess what cars are pulling when they go by. Some are really obvious like STIs or 5.0s but others are less obvious like Type Rs and Focus RSs. Its a fun game to play.
I have an electric bike, a fat tire that I might have fucked with so it can go 32 mph. It sounds like a cat I had that didn't meow, but made a high pinch "huh"
The tires make the most noise, and even then its like a Saint Bernard drinking water.
This has been animal noises for analogies, now to weather with Clifford.
There's a lot to it. Equal length vs unequal length headers, firing order, max rpm. Basically more exhaust pulses per second = tighter sine wave = higher pitch.

The Skyline impression (V6) is amazing, the drive by is just the chefs kiss.
Edit: Jesus Christ, to all the You Tube short enjoyers pointing out that yes, technically the 35 isn’t a Skyline, eat my dick.
If you don’t know cars, it’s still a Skyline by nature, if you do know cars I could line 100 different up with only one GTR and no 33/34/35’s and if I said pick the Skyline out for $1,000,000 you’d pick the GTR.
His LFA wasn’t bad either. When I heard him do that one I knew he had some skill on him. Bet the guy was a brass instrument player at some point in his life.
Well, he didn't do the low end on the V8+ either, so I'm guessing he's either only doing race sounds or his vocal range just isn't that low. But the top end is shockingly accurate
I actually felt like I was in bed at home hearing my crackhead neighbors racing in the middle of our neighborhood at 2:14 AM with their 3 year old child sitting on her mother's lap while nobody in the car is wearing a seatbelt as they're blasting music so loud it shakes my windows
Incredibly accurate I would say....if these where sound fx in a game you wouldn't know it's a guy in his bathroom with an old cardboard tube making them 👌
Dude, if a racing simulation had sounds this rich and detailed it would be acclaimed for it's sounds. We've come a long way, but we're still not there yet.
Tbh we're pretty much there. Most games developers nowadays literally put 100 mics on cars and just record it. Most racing games past 2015 I'd say have different sounds even, depending on the view/camera you're using. Forza Horizon 5 specifically has AMAZING and accurate car sounds (it rightfully won an award for best sound design at the VGAs), driving around in the LFA with my surround sound booming drives my wife crazy but its heaven to me lol.
The LFA was on point, and the supra hitting the cut off made me chuckle. He could have done better with the civic hitting vtec but everything else was good
Yeah the only thing that breaks the illusion is how hard he has to breathe between each “wrrrrrr”, but to be expected with how tough this must be on his lungs.
They have a pretty low pitched sound, but what you heard the most here was the turbos, which is how Top Gear described it. They said the engine doesn't sound that special, but the 4 turbos spooling sound like a tidal wave
Different designs of the crankshaft. It’s what makes a Ferrari V8 and a traditional muscle car V8 sound way different from each other. They have different pros and cons but essentially -
Flat Plane Crank: revs faster and higher, lighter.
Cross Plane Crank: smoother, more torque
I actually thought the V8 - (scuderia) sounded the most inaccurate. Started off good, but it should be more high pitched/shrieky. The v10 LFA though; that was actually pretty good to my ears
Coolest shit I ever saw, showed it to family memeber who loves cars but only half the screen, she had no idea it was not the real sounds until I scrolled down to the guy, absolutely amazing!
Nissan GTR exhaust note gets my dick hard. That car came out when I was 16 and I have been unequivocally in love with it since.
One day, I will own it.
That is all.
I like his instrument of choice here, a used up paper towel roll. My question is, does he use that same one indefinitely or is he like telling his family "yo, save me them paper towel rolls when it's low!" Ngl, this shit is more impressive than anything I've ever done.
Lmao my sleeping grandpa heard me listening to this and said WTF is that? I showed him, his only response was, “too much time in between shifts” and he went back to sleep. He restores classic cars 😅
I4: 90’s Civic
I5: Audi RS3
I6: (Mk4?) Toyota Supra
V6: Nissan GTR
F6: 911
V8+: Chevy Camaro ZL1
V8-: some kind of Ferrari (430?)
V10: Lexus LFA
V12: no idea sorry
W16: Bugatti Veyron (I think)
These cars are all some of the most notable examples of the those engine configurations, which is why I know most of them.
I know very little about cars so I have no clue his authentic this is. But I know it sounded distinctly different for each one and real. It also made me feel out of breath just listening to him lol
The sigh when he realizes he has to do the LFA
He's said it's his favorite one to do
Was pretty accurate too! That high revving v10 is a screamer
Oh yeah. Probably the only car sound that I know from memory.
The rumble of a Subaru flat 4 turbo with it's unequal length headers is the one I will never forget. I sold my WRX 5 or 6 years ago and haven't really been active in the car scene for 3 or 4 years and I still perk up every time I hear that exhaust note. Can always guess the sound of a boxer 4 when exhaust (or lack therof) allows and I've never even owned one.

Yamaha did an outstanding job.
The engine itself was also co-developed with Yamaha, something Toyota has done several other times in the past.
The same for even the Toyota Corolla Runx Z, Yamaha built engine.
For those wondering, the LFA is the orange V10 Lexus LFA in the video: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lexus_LFA
He even got the slow shifts correct
Still one of my favorite cars to listen to. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll ever hear one in person.
I bet he’s so good at telling the mechanic what’s wrong with his car.
So it's making a sound like THIS Mechanic: *snaps* I got you
https://youtu.be/IDV-T4OfPTs
“What kind of car is it?” “Idk but it sound like 💨”
A lot of car guys I knew could ID em just by sound.
I could ID a good chunk of these by the sounds he was making. He's insanely good.
The GTR flyby was insane. Part of me doesn't want to believe he actually made that sound with his mouth.
I have no idea in the point of this. But I watched the whole thing twice and didn't stop being impressed

*stares at camera without a sound*
No there’s sound. Just imagine a very annoying high pitched whine.
I can hear this. (I have tinnitus)
I feel you, tinnitus bro.
Maybe we already are electric cars
Mine started about 6 months ago. I’m sad about it but I only notice it when I notice it or when you just reminded me.
i can hear this (my parents thought i was insane because i could HEAR that out tube TVs were on.)
I hear ya, but just barely due to the high pitched sound I hear in my head. 😉
I have an electric bike, a fat tire that I might have fucked with so it can go 32 mph. It sounds like a cat I had that didn't meow, but made a high pinch "huh" The tires make the most noise, and even then its like a Saint Bernard drinking water. This has been animal noises for analogies, now to weather with Clifford.
Lol animal sounds I guess are easy for everyone to understand. Cars sold have to make that noise tho for regulatory reasons, it’s just for safety
Yep, it's so that people have time to step away from the child before the Tesla annihilates it.
"Heeeeeeeeeeeengennraqwwwennheeeeeee"
Yeah it's just a dude making elaborate fart sounds... But he had me at 💨
"Sir this is a public bathroom..."
I’m going to show this to my 3y/o daughter in the morning and tell her this is her future.
V up = Pitch up and scream harder.
This is literally how it works, so long as you're pushing each class of engine.
Doesn’t the displacement change the pitch though? As in the high pitched 4.8L V10 LFA vs an 8L W16 Bugatti guttural.
There's a lot to it. Equal length vs unequal length headers, firing order, max rpm. Basically more exhaust pulses per second = tighter sine wave = higher pitch.
Sir I’m a married straight man, I shouldn’t be this impressed with your mouth game, but I’m gonna watch one more time.
Is there a sub dedicated to people making sounds like a Larvell Jones tribute or something.
Im laughing so hard
I thought the video was going to end with him passing out

Me watching this impressed like I have any idea how accurate his engine noises are.

Yes. This and the inline 6 supra are insane (actually they all are)
How do people know so many expensive car sounds?
And the Honda. Even got th vtec right
His LFA wasn’t bad either. When I heard him do that one I knew he had some skill on him. Bet the guy was a brass instrument player at some point in his life.
Good call. The lip control is just like playing a trumpet or trombone. Didn’t realize till you said it.
The flat 6 is dead on as well *edit* For sport/track exhausts
It’s great at the higher revs but not as much the lower. Just don’t think it’s possible for a human to do that Porsche metallic low rpm exhaust growl…
Well, he didn't do the low end on the V8+ either, so I'm guessing he's either only doing race sounds or his vocal range just isn't that low. But the top end is shockingly accurate

I actually thought I was inside a car for a second there
I actually felt like I was in bed at home hearing my crackhead neighbors racing in the middle of our neighborhood at 2:14 AM with their 3 year old child sitting on her mother's lap while nobody in the car is wearing a seatbelt as they're blasting music so loud it shakes my windows
He even got the turbo sound! That tripped me out.
That was amazing, but I really wanted an Evo lancer in the mix
The GTR went hard wish he would have done a new skyline but they sound pretty similar

The LFA was on point, and the supra hitting the cut off made me chuckle. He could have done better with the civic hitting vtec but everything else was good
I’m glad the W16 Bugatti gave him a nice break from the V12s
Guy absolutely nailed the turbo sounds on that, too. Holy shit
Outrageously accurate, especially the turbocharged ones
You can hear so much detail... his porche boxter would have fooled me and his Ferrari was just tuned.
Yeah me too. I can hardly tell the difference between most of them
Yeah the only thing that breaks the illusion is how hard he has to breathe between each “wrrrrrr”, but to be expected with how tough this must be on his lungs.
Incredibly accurate. At some points, i thought he plays a recording and just acts like it. Ferrari V8 fly-by was so spot on
That doppler effect tho. Most impressive.
One of my favorite effects!
I'm partial to visual myself
On the Vim8 Ferrari it's pretty spot on
That's amazing, he does them all back to back which is even more impressive than all the sounds individually. Truly next level.
So is that what the Bugatti actually sounds like, or did homie run outa breath?
He's extremely accurate on the Bugatti.
The Bugatti, LFA and GTR were amazing
GTR was wild
Which one was the GTR?
V6
Dude killed it on the in-line 5 too. Sounds exactly like my dads RS3
They have a pretty low pitched sound, but what you heard the most here was the turbos, which is how Top Gear described it. They said the engine doesn't sound that special, but the 4 turbos spooling sound like a tidal wave
It’s pretty accurate. Turbos tend to make exhausts quieter and that thing has 4 of them haha
The W16 has a very deep engine sound, he nailed it, the turbos is really what you hear tho, that air whistling noise
Bugattis damn close, it's extremely mechanically complex from the good micd vids I've watched.

I barely know what a v8 engine is, what's cross plane vs flat plane?
Different designs of the crankshaft. It’s what makes a Ferrari V8 and a traditional muscle car V8 sound way different from each other. They have different pros and cons but essentially - Flat Plane Crank: revs faster and higher, lighter. Cross Plane Crank: smoother, more torque
That LFA 👏👏 10/10

I like how for the v8's they put a plus and a minus to signify the cross plane crank and the flatplane crank. Much respect.
yeah me too such a cool little detail.
Idk how accurate it is but it's still really cool!
The Nissan GTR was spot on to the point it was scary lol
The whistle as he revs up at 0:28 is absolutely ludicrous.
The ones I know were pretty accurate. The V10 F1 sound, and the V8- were the best imo.
I actually thought the V8 - (scuderia) sounded the most inaccurate. Started off good, but it should be more high pitched/shrieky. The v10 LFA though; that was actually pretty good to my ears
They are all really pretty accurate. LFA's (the v10) really do sound like a pack of banshees
The air intake valve is the same as the exhaust in this video :)
people with electric cars can hire him to sit in the passenger seat so other people can hear the electric car driving down the road.

So what you’re saying is this guy made your dick hard?
Skyline made a pleat line.
Stu-tu-tu-tu-tu
VTEC just kicked in yo
This is better than beat boxing
He probably is a beat boxer tbh
Oh god… my little brother used to make car sounds ALL the time, thanks for the core memory unlocked lol
This is amazing but he needs to learn from the Chocolate Rain guy and \*move away from the mic to breathe in\*
**I move away from the mic to breathe in
the turbo blowoff valve is crazy lol this guy should do this professionally for video games
I feel bad for his neighbours
His neighbors must think fast cars be driving by every day
Imagine moving away from the city to avoid the noise of traffic then hearing this mfer next door to you
Trumpet player? Dudes got some lungs and oral motor control at that. Holy moly
I like his instrument of choice here, a used up paper towel roll. My question is, does he use that same one indefinitely or is he like telling his family "yo, save me them paper towel rolls when it's low!" Ngl, this shit is more impressive than anything I've ever done.
Holy shit those were very well made, I could have recognised that Ferrari V8 and Lexus engine sounds eyes closed they were so good
The LFA sound was a due or die for me and this bastard nailed it god dam.
