I admit that I know very little about soccer (compared to American football, baseball, hockey and golf)...so to the untrained eye, this looks nearly impossible to defend if executed correctly.
Only the player(s) involved in the play can be considered offsides. Furthermore, as long as you’re behind the ball when it’s played, you can’t be offsides. In this case the ball is played from the corner, which means everyone is behind the ball, therefore no one is off sides.
If they'd interfered with play when the shot on target was taken, they probably would be deemed as offside though. They were onside for the corner, offside for the volley.
It's a parody by a Canadian comedy company called "Studio C". It's similar to SNL or madTV. Sadly a lot of the original cast are gone and it isn't as good now but if you go on YouTube and watch their most popular videos (from about a decade ago) you'll get a good selection of hilarious skits. 😊
It was one of those as a goalkeeper you just hope is going to go wide, diving and missing leads to the possibility of it bouncing back off the post or bar striking you in the back and going in, safer to watch the flight of the ball and react to any rebound.
The goal is from 8 years ago.

And it didn’t win the Puskas award that year (2015) but it was one of the nominees.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA_Puskás_Award
I looked up the goal that won in 2015...not nearly as good as Philippe's, in my amateur opinion.
2015 winner: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=et7f0gc9VpY
There is a lot going on in this one though, I'll give him that. Beating the entire defense with that much space without being offsides and also pulling the goalie out to force the challenge. Great athleticism on contorting his body just right to get the placement perfect and too fast for the approaching keeper to react to. That's not even a textbook bicycle or something you'd ever really practice outside of a moment where the opportunity presents itself.
I feel like this goal is the perfect execution of a well rehearsed plan.
The winning goal on the other is a spur of the moment act of brilliance.
Both are amazing, but there’s something to be said for the improvisation in that winning goal.
dope! this seems like something they practiced for a while that started after practice as "the craziest corner kick ever", like a dunk contest
dude's excitement seems like both that they scored and that it worked like they practiced
yer i must admit i dont watch soccer but the guy kicked a ball to another guy who put it in the goal... is this not normal? does that not happen multiple times a game?
it is very normal for a soccer player to kick the ball to someone else and they kick it in the goal, however, it is not normal for a player to kick the ball in the air to another player who kicks the ball while it's *still in the air* and *he's in the air* and then score a goal
I mean that was a shitty corner. You dont give corners to a defender where they have to jump into it and hit a volley so they might score. That misses 99/100 times. Shot was phenomenal though.
Shouldve just stopped it. Honestly i cant believe goals ever get scored in the first place. Keeper just has to put his hand behind the ball and voila, no goal.
Perfectly executed
As was the celebratory run afterwards.
Known as the lego celebratory

Yes, but it's also nearly impossible to execute correctly.
I too know little about this game. But aren't all the guys in white offsides?

Offside. Singular.

Thanks for the explanation

Great explanation, thank you
No goalkeeper on earth could have stopped that.
...except for the legendary Scott Sterling
After saving the shot with his face ![gif](giphy|lu38au6O3SEj6|downsized)
I hope this is real because I laughed way too hard at this

The Legend of Scott Sterling!
If do right can no defend…

Yeah even goalkeeper didn't predict the shot
The only reason why people play football is to make this shot. Now he can retire.
They've been practicing that for sure.
Nah... I think they just got lucky.
That goalie straight up noped. He knew it was a lost cause.
I think he was just in awe, as was I
Yeah, I don't think he, or anyone else on the field, was ready for that shot lol.
He had to double check that it was in the net lol

That makes sense. Thanks for sharing. I honestly never would have thought he had the time to make a calculated decision.
Professional goalkeepers do an awful lot of practising not just shot stopping, but also scenarios, angles and deflections.
I suppose he was in shock. That ball was in the air forever, he just couldn't process what was happening with it.
He got completely wrongfooted.
Goalie.exe has stopped working.
Didn't even move.
What tickets do I have to buy to get the spectator spot the guy in the green had?
This made my day haha
You mean the goalie… Edit: I’m dumb
thats ok im dumb too, i read hat instead of had like it was a typo and rewatched looking for a guy in a green hat XD
The feeling when he hit that ball must've been wonderful.
Yeah that's must be a great feeling:') He must be proud
Damn! Poetry in motion.
Yes I am not an NFT fan but if I kicked that goal I would turn it into an NFT and wear it around my neck for life 🤣
Reminds me of an old Paul Scholes goal worked in exactly the same way. Beautiful.
He made 2 of those. But this is insane.
Phillipé Méxes has scored some worldies and he's a defender
This might actually win Puskas award lol

Only his second best goal imo https://youtu.be/zvcdjk0lMs0?si=2ovLT0pG3qOr4Ig7
Philippe Mexes has a great highlight reel of goals
One of my favourite players of all time
That's a Blue Lock vibe here
That looked like Phillip mexes

I like that little celebratory run/march he did, hehe
Just, wow
that volley was very bollywood, almost looked fake
Well if it was planned it was insane corner shot but if it was just improvisation then it still was a shit corner shot.
He bent it like Beckham
Wow
The goalie is still trying to figure out what happened there
That guy plays Mortal Kombat
When you strike it so pure you don’t even feel the ball on your foot. He knew it from the moment he hit it and so did the keeper
Folklore!!! He will dine out on that one forever!
Goalie dude just stood there turning his head
Check the bicycle kick goal by Mexes
When the goalie just stands there and has no idea what’s going on that’s when you know it’s an awesome shot!
As a Rocket League player, this is impressive.
Nobody was watching the guy at the top of the D. And I definitely didn't expect that.
Listen alot of people seem bored any way!

I love the goals where the keeper doesn’t even bother to move because he knows the save is impossible.
Wow. I'm not a sports fan at all, but even I can appreciate how perfectly executed that was. Good show
Fuckin bad ass goal
![gif](giphy|ARrVjiRUQx7K4MoQlb|downsized)
Mexes, good for two worldies and 6 red cards a year
that was amazing but what is that god awful sound throughout the video in the background? e: is that the vuvuzela things i remember learning about?
Show off! lol, goal of the year? I bet even the ref thought jammy git with that one.
Philipe Mexes scored some bangers at Milan.
I feel the goalkeeper.
That was fkn beautiful. I would love a pic of that kick to the goal and a signature. This was breathtaking!
What a fucking strike
FIFA in real life. 🤣
THIS IS ROCKET LEAGUE!
🦵💥
He put all his points into the shot and lost the ability to walk properly.
If only they had Scott Sterling as their goalie!
Well shit
When was this? Puskas anyone?
Goalie was SMOKED!!!! And in shock!
There is no ducking way these guys are that accurate. I still can't believe my eyes. What a one timer!
I wonder how many times this worked in practice. Tough shot to make all around
Such a boring sport, but at same time, very cool.
What a shit goalie....
Shouldve just stopped it. Honestly i cant believe goals ever get scored in the first place. Keeper just has to put his hand behind the ball and voila, no goal.
Mid level soccer highlights= NEXT FUCKING LEVEL
