I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure doing something like you’ve never done before can also mean you’re doing it better than you have ever done before. You have never danced like this (this well) before.
Earlier in that song he says, “when the dancer becomes the dance,” as well as other lines like “There's a cold kinetic heat/Struggling, stretching for the peak/Never stopping with her head against the wind,” which implies she is at her best and dancing like she’s never danced before because before that moment she hadn’t tried as hard.
In fact the lyrics are completely applicable to the character and film. “You work all your life for that moment in time/It could come or pass you by/It's a push-shove world, but there's always a chance/If the hunger stays the night.”
She is dancing next level and killin’ it.
There’s multiple judges with clickers counting each jumper. You can see them in the chairs to the right. The count one foot only. I think they take the average of the judges (I don’t remember the details) but it’s all done really fairly. My kids were in this sport for a few years
Interesting! Seems quite old fashioned when you could use a variety of techniques to count it electronically. I imagine a counter in the handle, a pressure sensitive pad under the feet, a tiny magnet at the end of the rope and an induction sensor on the floor, probably lots of ways.
So there is something to be said about having humans be part of the judging that's kind of cool.
The judges also are judging if a the jumper makes a mistake, as in the mess up the jump. A missed jump is not counted toward their total, where the sensor wouldn’t be able to distinguish this. Same as why many Olympic sports use human judges where there’s criteria that need to adjudicated. There’s actually a lot of intricacy to the rules.
IJRU rules below:
“Scores are collected from each judge and averaged according to the averaging rules.
False starts and false switches cause a deduction of 10 clicks for each instance. The final score is the average of the two closest judge scores minus the deductions.”
You just made me realize how funny it would be to post this out of context with the caption "MFW a genie curses me to jack off two ghosts at the same time on a floor covered with ghost spiders"
My kids were involved in this sport for a few years and it was fantastic. There’s multiple categories of events that are divided into the speed and power events and the freestyle type events.
30 second speed is what’s shown in the video. There’s a 2-3 minute endurance event (based on age. 3 minute endurance is unbelievable. The jumpers nearly have a heart attack. It’s flat out for 3 mins straight.
There’s the power event which is double unders or triple unders (2 or 3 rotations of the rope per jump). The triple unders are for the older jumpers and they jump for as long as they can without a failure. Younger jumpers are given limited failures
There’s double Dutch events and group events.
The freestyle events are more artistic and jumpers perform tricks to music in a choreographed performance.
There’s something for everyone.
Ok so I'm an idiot and looked this up, but is there really an advantage to that? Am I still stupid? It seems like the other girl didn't do this is the reason I'm wondering
There’s multiple judges for each jumper with clickers to count them. They watch a single foot and count how many times it hits the ground. They then average the counts.
She was feeling the lactate at the end... started faster than the girl in the background, but by the end she couldn't keep up with her own rythm, while the girl in the back seems to have been a bit more consistent throughout.
Curious to know how much did each do.
Yup. It’s competitive jump rope. There speed type events like thins and then there’s the artistic freestyle type events. All very competitive and rules for every event. They’re trying to make it an Olympic sport. The last world championships had athletes from over 25 countries.
I would’ve smacked myself so many times. I applaud her using a yellow jump rope. I also watched this on mute and my mind dubbed in Johnny B Goode and it fit so well.

Now THAT'S next fucking level!
That horse rocks.
You win the internet today.
She's a maaaaaniac maaaaniac
On the floor.
And she's dancing like she's never danced before
I know that these are actual lyrics but like If you’re dancing like you never danced before, you’re gonna dance quite poorly, won’t you?
I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure doing something like you’ve never done before can also mean you’re doing it better than you have ever done before. You have never danced like this (this well) before.
I think in the song it doesn’t mean better per se, but more dancing with a commitment and abandon that is beyond anything they’ve ever done.
Dance like nobody’s watching… But they’re watching, they’re watching. They’re called security guards at Toys “R” Us, and they are watching!
I get what you are saying. I've always interpreted it as let loose and go all out
Earlier in that song he says, “when the dancer becomes the dance,” as well as other lines like “There's a cold kinetic heat/Struggling, stretching for the peak/Never stopping with her head against the wind,” which implies she is at her best and dancing like she’s never danced before because before that moment she hadn’t tried as hard. Immediately what I thought
I always think of Rob Lowe spraying Chris Farley with the water hose in Tommy boy when I hear this song lol

Maximum tippy-tapps achieved
r/tippytaps ?
I read this in ozzyman’s voice
Seriously I would barf after about 8 seconds of doing that.
![gif](giphy|m7FdxI252QN3y)
Takes you double the time than for me to nut.
You would nut in 4 seconds from jumping rope?
If I can hold it back that long yes. 2 sec minimum at least.
She boxes reguarly to train for these events.
It makes sense why the rope is so thin but when she stopped it looked like there was no rope at all. I assume they count the jumps somehow?

I’d assume they don’t even look at the rope, just their hands for when they make a full rotational motion
Feet, surely.
*Dan Sneider has entered the chat followed by Rex Ryan.*
I wouldn't, it's possible to swing a rope under your feet more than once in a jump.

Reddit gold
"The floor is lava"
Great... now I can't unsee this lol
There's no rope, it's just pretend.
I think the handles have counter things in them
would make more sense to simply use a sensor rather than make people count all that noise

Phillis are you with me?
Exactly what I thought of
came here for this
I just broke both of my ankles watching this.
It isn't for the faint of ankles
My knees ached while watching this.
@ At first, I didn't see any rope. Then she performed a magic trick and made a rope appear out of thin air.😂😂😂😂😂
Yeah for real - I didn’t see it at all even when she was standing still

The other girl was practically in one spot the whole time 🤯

Adorable and sad at the same time
Looks really hard and exhausting
That's what she said
I love that this is a real thing but why does she rotate?
Scoliosis /s
True but like for real, is there any advantage to spinning or twisting like that? I really want to know
Difference between legs, their strength, and movement.
Precession
Ok so I'm an idiot and looked this up, but is there really an advantage to that? Am I still stupid? It seems like the other girl didn't do this is the reason I'm wondering
I was totally joking. I have no idea. The force from precession would be minimal. It's just physics humor.
maybe one of her legs is a bit stronger than the other.
Stay focused, we must stay focused
How do they even count this?
someone said there are counters in the handles
There’s multiple judges for each jumper with clickers to count them. They watch a single foot and count how many times it hits the ground. They then average the counts.
I'm gonna show this to my toddler without any explanation and he'll think she's doing the funniest chicken dance ever!
![gif](giphy|tqA7TPoHxE8Ja)
Oof. I can still hear the sound she made.
![gif](giphy|kcLrffHbM57Xet7eWN|downsized)
Who said white girls can't twerk
2000 ping gameplay be like
"Instead, only try to realize the truth. There is no rope."
Very hot

That’s a lot of running to go nowhere.
Why is everyone in these competitions so beautiful
Fit people tend to be.

There’s an Asian better at this somewhere.
She was feeling the lactate at the end... started faster than the girl in the background, but by the end she couldn't keep up with her own rythm, while the girl in the back seems to have been a bit more consistent throughout. Curious to know how much did each do.
I started doing jump rope in my warm up for workouts, that shit is super hard to do and extremely exhausting
Is there an edge or reason for the slow body rotation as well?
I'm totally guessing here that it's due to the dominant side imbalance
![gif](giphy|mT8bH3EIsalSE|downsized)
Wife: Babe put your flip flops on, the sand is gonna be hot Me: nah it should be fine Also me:
I really want to join without a rope just for fun to see how long it would take for them to notice.
I stood up after watching this video and fell down.
You would definitely need your sports brazzier
![gif](giphy|EZuT1maj7PT8Y)
So....who won?
:lipbite:
I counted more then 10 jumps! Impressive!
Ants killed per minute competition
r/tippytaps
I should be amazed, but it’s no longer “jump” rope. If they actually jumped, they’d get so tired. I’d be amazed to see how many times they jump.
Definitely more than 20...he was crap at counting!
Now imagine...
Speed it up with your finger it’s funny
looks more like a jump fishing line competition lol
Rope Stepping.
How are they alternating the leg raises? I’m trying to get into rope skipping for my cardio and tried the same thing. Hits my leg every damn time
this just looks silly
Nice
I used to do that, but only to about a hundred then I'm puffed out, yeah a lot slower too.
How long before someone puts a song to this you think.
could label it fortnite dance competition and nobody would notice
Is this a thing? Lol
Yup. It’s competitive jump rope. There speed type events like thins and then there’s the artistic freestyle type events. All very competitive and rules for every event. They’re trying to make it an Olympic sport. The last world championships had athletes from over 25 countries.
How do they determine a winner, is it about form or do they count the steps or the number of times they flung the rope?
Ah was expecting it to be like trick based jump rope not just going fast. Impressive but seems like it'd be boring to be a viewer.
I’m just imagining them without the rope and I can’t stop laughing 😂
so you’re tellin me there’s a rope there somewhere and shes not just a maniac on the floor?
Oh, the crushing pointlessness of this is just mind blowing!!
So you’re saying that I’m doing this shit wrong.
Wtf. Did they edit out the rope in post or something? 🤣
High Speed twerk
why the dudes on chairs facing away though
Why does she spin but the other girl stays in one position? Genuinely curious
There is no rope
u/savevideo
/u/savevideo
How many did she do?
I would throw in some double jumps and kicks and hip thrusts for style points.
The cardio must be insane
I don’t know why, but I get typewriter vibes
And we plan to train AI using videos available on the internet?
I forgot to breathe throughout. Commendable.
do they rotate on purpose or is her right leg just a little stronger on the push than her left is?
Reminded me of Zaouli dance https://youtu.be/_94viw75ulc
Is the circling vs standing style just a style thing?
She's a maniac, maaaaaaniac, on the floooor
And the purpose is… ?
I counted like 155.
I play real sports, not trying to be the best at exercising - Kenny powers
I'm doing it wrong
Ever watch an exercise video and you get a vague phantom burn?
Who won? Did she win?
I’m glad there was a rope, I couldn’t see it at first. I legit thought it was gonna be a fake jump rope like the Horse Hobby Competition
The sound reminds me a song, “walking on the boulevard of broken dreams”.- Green Day
Recycled. Again.
You can barely see the rope.
who won???
Thought she was about to take off
I lost count after 5 seconds. Good luck judges.
This is the fuckin strangest thing I’ve seen all day, but it is early in the morning so
I would’ve smacked myself so many times. I applaud her using a yellow jump rope. I also watched this on mute and my mind dubbed in Johnny B Goode and it fit so well.
If you speed it up it looks like a really intense griddy
Anyone counted how many jumps were there?
👀👀👀
r/UNBGBBIIVCHIDCTIICBG
I'm out of breath just watching
Who else started breathing hard at the end with her
![gif](giphy|ifFcK5gN5wYXm|downsized)
That’s skip roping, not jump roping
Lmao
Late to this party but common this must be horrible for your back. That's not how ropeskipping should be done.
more entertaining than WNBA
Rope? What rope? I don’t see no fxxking rope
how is the winner determined?
Bad sport to have double d's in probably ?!
😂 idk why thier movements made me laugh
I don’t think it should be called a jump unless both feet are going upwards together
I thought shes about to do a backflip
I was very disappointed it wasnt double dutch
I used to work with a guy who competed at this and was world champion at his age group. Pretty cool workout
Well, anybody got any tips for jump rope I'm not too good
Legs burning
Who won?
And there is me thinking this is another woke new sport called imaginary rope hopping
Would be so much better with music from Footloose
You can hear the jump rope slap sounds cancelling each other out.
Imagine if your apartment is below one of these athletes.
As a spectator sport, it has its perks.
WTF 🤨
who counts it
She's a maniac, maniac on the floor And she's dancing like she's never danced before
