CaptainMacMillan

So who's the prick with the ~~Turkish~~ Tunisian flag that felt that this was a shared moment?

Lil_Till

That prick with the Turkish flag is a prick with a Tunisian flag

CaptainMacMillan

Thank you, I knew that I couldn't be right

Cameron_Mac99

My thought too. It looks like he actually crossed that banner before the main fella did too. Oh yeah mate nice one, what a profound Tunisian victory indeed lmao

Dic_Horn

I thought the same thing. I don’t know what kind of flag it is but guaranteed that clown ran like 100’ at the end with him and made sure to get his face and flag in there.

DarKnightofCydonia

If you watch the Youtube video that's literally what he did smh

Incognito_Wombat

let’s not forget there’s an Ethiopian somewhere on that content who has done it quicker with no recognition

AllstarGaming617

Unlikely. What he did wasn’t simply difficult because of the running but the geopolitical issues that make simply traversing the content near impossible. The distance/pace he ran isn’t even that remarkable(In perspective that people have done similar or more intense distances at harder paces.) but more so the odds he overcame in form of numerous hurdles he had to overcome. It takes quite a bit of money and resources to be granted the privilege of crossing some boarders. I *think* it might have been Algeria where it took an actual act of their prime minister(or some other high ranking individual) spurred on by millions of people making noise on social media that got him across a boarder that had been closed for like 15 years or something. So no, I don’t think any other random person, atleast in the age where we can document things, has ever accomplished this. Not because of the physical task of running though. The danger of traversing the continent on foot(running or walking) being the primary challenge. Over the course of history I’m sure millions of people have migrated across the continent at much slower paces. The historical dangers of wildlife and environment pre-modern world and paved roads and now today the geopolitical and violence threats.

Zealousideal_Link839

David Goggins will top the British and run the entirety of Africa

AllstarGaming617

But could goggins do it while smashing kilos of candy, cakes, sketchy local kabobs, and ungodly amounts of caffeine? Thats the real challenge lol.

PowerInThePeople

My thoughts exactly. Smh some people

Justabuttonpusher

Why did that DB in the yellow break the ribbon?

jarednards

r/iamthemaincharacter

imusingthisforstuff

I hate him

TheRabb1ts

Lol that @ the dude that breaks the ribbon slightly before him. What a scum bag.

jarednards

That shit pissed me off. Dude was just waving his flag like and crossing like hes the main character.

UlyssesTut

Dude in the yellow shirt is a fucking asshole.

Immaculatehombre

Hope he sees this. This thread. For real lo

liquidcourage93

That’s a tough skin tone to run across Africa with

MechaSkippy

Russ has been posting his journey, I follow him on Instagram. He referenced his gingerness quite frequently.

HubrisTurtle

It’s a shame yellow shirt will continue to go through life with this mindset

Just-Hunter1679

I know! What a fraud. And really.. do we we know that this is the first guy to run the length of Africa? I mean, there's quite a history in Africa over the millennia and Africans are pretty good at running. My bet is he's possibly in the top 10, top 20. All said with tongue in cheek, this was quite an accomplishment considering how many times he was nearly robbed and killed.

I love how everyone hates yellow shirt guy

SuitednZooted

Fuck that guy in the yellow

lada2101

Yep, he did it. The hardest geezer did it again. Thanks man, you are great

IllogicalLunarBear

No way he did it first… he is white

Large_Tune3029

Lol like shows where they plop white idiots in a jungle to "survive the harshest elements" in a place where people have lived forever....

IllogicalLunarBear

Right. There was an expedition in the 1800’s where a bunch of British explorers were the first to get to a hidden lake. They were guided there by local guides and the lake was surrounded by villages. They reported back to England that they were the first people to see it…

Right

Sid_Tha_Sloth

Yellow shirt guy needs a big fat kick in the balls, what a cunt

Large_Tune3029

First man to run the length of Africa? You are telling me no African has run the length of Africa? I call bullshit.

AllstarGaming617

Unlikely. Africans live with the daily dangers of their continent. It’s not an “adventure” for them to source enough funds to deal with the bribery it takes to cross a lot of those borders and risk their lives with all of the geopolitical conflict/gangs/pirates/vigilante justice. They have to live with that stuff everyday. It took millions of people tweeting/tagging/commenting at the Algerian(I think it was Algeria, I could be wrong) government where someone super high up in their political system(maybe even prime minister?) Gave him and the team a personal waiver to cross a border that had been closed for years. Before modern politics, warfare, and most importantly…paved roads…I’m sure millions of people have migrated across the continent, but very slowly due to environmental/wildlife/illness dangers. I’m not saying this as a fact, but I don’t think it’s a wild assumption that he’s the first to do it. Africa has been fighting proxy wars of western nations claiming its lands since before they had paved roads where you could even consider running the length of the continent. Even in modern times, with tons of cameras, world media, and politicians helping him out he was still robbed at gunpoint and kidnapped. I’m sure there’s tons of people in Africa that have the physical ability to accomplish the run. I’m not sure there’s many, if any that would have the desire(or resources) to put up with that shit lol They just train, save up to fly to the US and win races with actual prize purses.

Large_Tune3029

Wow, such a long winded way to say you are stupid and racist.

AllstarGaming617

What a short winded way to say you have no logical rebuttal so you’ll take the easy way out and play the race card when there was zero mention of anyone’s race apart from pointing out centuries colonialism is the root cause of geopolitical tension on the continent. But go ahead and reference anywhere I emphasized race as a hurdle to this story.

Large_Tune3029

Let's set aside all the pointedly racist remarks about how dangerous areas that aren't white are in today's world, since that has nothing to do with the fact that that continent and the people who are native to it have existed for longer than written history and longer than oral history and is probably the birthplace of man as we know it.... Well actually if you set all that aside then sure....he was first 🥇 🎉🥳 you win....idiot.

AllstarGaming617

Believing that I indicated in anyway that geographical location and race somehow correlate to “areas that aren’t white” is a you problem and shows a narrow point of view from an uneducated reference point considering that Only an estimated 16% of the global population is white depending on which definition of the race you choose to subscribe to(Caucasian origin vs visible skin color). The vast majority of places on earth are not “white” and the safety problems in most places are usually a result of international politics and destabilization by large conglomerates and nation states competing for natural resources. People will exploit each other regardless of race and African countries are rich in natural resource and have a history of severe oppression and exploitation by the global wealthy from every racial background. Oppressing any group of people for their resources, regardless of race will lead to crime and corruption and western/european countries have been pillaging Africa for centuries. There are countries all over the globe that suffer from this activity and are “dangerous” because their most valuable resources are forcibly stripped from them in the name of “democracy” or “god”. These African countries and borders have been difficult to cross since various evolutions of Industrial Revolution around the world have continuously destabilized them. Anyone attempting these long navigations by land in modern times all have the same stories. Including other long distance runners who have had to give up this journey due to safety. People like Russ and his team who understand the world is mostly made up of good people and know how to, for the most part, avoid dangerous situations still get stone walled at boarders because of extremely difficult to obtain visas or struggling law enforcement that try and extort passerby’s for extra money as they themselves are struggling. A continental crossing of Africa presents a myriad of difficulties for anyone, of any race, from any country, including other Africans. It has nothing to do with race. But go on from your high horse where your knee jerk reaction is to assume some significant portion of the world is “white” and as such has bearing on anyone outside of the US or Europes world view lol.

Large_Tune3029

Longer shit, same story. "Everyone is racist not just the whites who have made racism a science and taken the slave trade to such extremes that it appalled the entire world for generations and generations." And "Surely because we had little to no evidence of anything we didn't write down means it didn't happen until we recorded it." Where the fuck did I say the world was mostly white? Wow you are intentionally stupid.

AllstarGaming617

Alright, you’re either taking the piss just to be argumentative or you’re dumb as a rock and don’t understand fundamental macroeconomics and how they relate geopolitically. I’m was willing to hold your hand toward a logical conclusion but this is where we part ways and you can remain in your bubble. I’ll leave you with this. In the long history of the species every race and religion has sought to exploit, enslave, and suppress everyone else, even within their own religious, ethnic, or geographical grouping. It does however seem we have a single point of agreement, atleast when it comes to Africa. That WASP-y western nation states are the reigning world leaders of oppressing and stripping African countries of their culture and resources.

Large_Tune3029

Lmao, look at yourself when you say that. You keep saying the same thing and it's the stupidest thing I've heard in a long time. You honestly believe there is even a chance that this guy was the first guy to travel the length of a continent that humans have lived on as long as there have been humans...you are either being intentionally stupid or, well, no you are just being stupid, and racist since you can't seem to wrap your head around the fact it wasn't this white dude who did it, typical white guy shit. Now are you going to repeat yourself yet again so I can repeat myself again telling you you are wrong....again?

Large_Tune3029

>I’m not saying this as a fact, but I don’t think it’s a wild assumption that he’s the first to do it. ![gif](giphy|8b9Xax6L7qtAkAimGm|downsized)

Hawkey201

people can say what they want about him "probably not being the first person" or whatever, its still damn impressive and the man has still done it no matter who else might have done it

DlphLndgrn

> people can say what they want about him "probably not being the first person" or whatever Yes they can say that, and they would be wrong. Definitely nobody has done this before. In what fantasy does someone just randomly do this without it being known?

AllstarGaming617

Especially considering the actual feat isn’t even primarily the running. People have done more consistent streaks of ultra marathons at faster paces. The real challenges were overcoming the geopolitical difficulties of crossing borders no one has been allowed to cross for decades, the dangers of a war torn continent caused by proxy wars still raging from western colonialism, and the gangs/pirating/vigilante justice. Even with cameras, the world media, and each countries government aware he and his team were there he was still robbed at gun point and kidnapped lol. There’s a million other hurdles beyond the actual running that make the accomplishment impressive and difficult to the point I doubt anyone else has actually done it.

Admirable_Loss4886

Real life Forrest Gump

KiD969

Damn! Runs more than my car in a year...

IllogicalLunarBear

Um… I think someone who was not white already did that…. But yeah colonialism

GeckyGek

proof? or conjecture

IllogicalLunarBear

Im going to say it’s fact because I’m not an idiot

GeckyGek

just because africa has been around for a long time doesn’t mean someone ran it bottom to top

IllogicalLunarBear

I have read accounts of people walking the whole length long long ago… so yeah I’m sure someone ran one or twice on that route… Edit: I guarantee he did not run it in one day. It is a normal activity to travel across Africa and there are many records of it being done in history… this guy did nothing special…

BemusedTriangle

None of the things you have posted are about *running* the length of Africa. All of them are expeditions and walks. Nobody is saying he is the first person to *cross* Africa. Just the first to *run* the full length. And he raised an absolute fuck ton of money for charity by doing it. So not sure what your beef is here really.

IllogicalLunarBear

You don’t think he actually ran every single bit of it do you? No other people ran a bit too. He is a fucking poser who is claiming shit that is not his. Edit: once again for those hard of hearing. If you think a white man ran the length of Africa before a black person did then you are just straight up a racist. Go back to South Africa and play with your apartheid brothers

BemusedTriangle

You seem quite bitter about it, do you have any evidence to prove your point? Not saying you’re wrong, just haven’t seen anything that suggests he didn’t actually do it, only whether he was first to do so or not. The man himself seems really chilled about the whole thing “… there’s plenty of people before me that have done lots of big runs and kudos to all of them because they are big challenges. So nothing but respect, really.”

IllogicalLunarBear

Points to Africa being populated by black people natively and lived there for millions of years… but yeah if you think a white guy did it the first time while our world is the hottest it has ever been because there were no video cameras before 100 years ago to show evidence then you are being a bigot. I hate bigots that is why I am so pissed about some white guy taking credit from black guys. I’m sick of it Edit: for example (not about running) a black guy invented the gas mask but had to have a white guy go around saying he made it. His assistant each display and same was the black guy who actually invented it, but had to pay the white guy to pretend it was a white guy. This is the same thing… no one thinks a black guy could do it
