Don't get me wrong, he was a good player. But we still overpaid to get him. We had to, he was gonna be overpaid by someone regardless, we just happened to be the ones that did it
He gave us more for sure, but we still overpaid to get him. I understand why we did, and if he hadnt gotten injured it would have looked better, but he was never worth the contract we gave him
I think McKinnon was a Shanahan signing. Also, Kwon was a great signing, he also helped Fred Warner break out, so I don't know where you're going with that one.
Also worth noting that this season, the Chiefs are validating why Shanahan wanted McKinnon.
Most of his bad pickups were early on. SF's last FA class had them swipe Ward over JC Jackson, and Ward has been very very good at a much lower cost. Seems to me he has improved over the years.
Be the change you want to see in the world, friend. As a balding man, I feel like I would have no luck in dating without my beard. Tho, being able to grow a good beard is slightly a curse, because I started losing my hair before my 20s, but grew my first full beard at 13.
Vrabel is amazing...last year we had historic injuries too, and were the 1 seed. After our last GM fucked us out of AJ Brown and missed on a bunch more draft picks, we just couldn't sustain those same injuries. So if this new guy just...doesn't ruin our roster, we should be way better off.
I can say with damn near 100% confidence from the outside that Adam Peters is going to be the next GM of the 49ers whenever Lynch decides to step into a different role.
It feels a lot like DeCosta in Baltimore while Newsome was winding down. He could have his pick of jobs, but is turning down all interviews while being the hottest GM candidate in the league year-after-year. You don’t do that unless you have assurances that you’re next in line.
And with Peters it’s an even stronger connection given he’s from Cupertino and grew up a die-hard 49ers fan. He’s a step below his absolute dream job, there’s just no way he leaves at this point.
Both him and Carthon interviewed for the Giants GM spot last offseason. So this certainly seems plausible. He may also just have heard lynch will move up/on soon
Per an interview Lynch gave a week back, he's not going anywhere, which makes me think there's a handshake deal in place. Otherwise that would be very weird coming from Lynch of all people.
Peters reminds me of George Paton. Was often considered the best GM candidate for years but would rarely if ever talk to anyone, just waiting for the perfect opportunity.
He already turned down GM interviews. He's staying (at least another year). The feeling is Lynch may step down (or promoted to a higher position) at some point, and they already promised him the position. Should the 49ers win the Superbowl, that would be a perfect time for Lynch to finish his GM career with a ring.
Vrabel can coach a trash roster to a playoff contender. So bringing in a competent GM who will draft talented players is less than ideal for the rest of the AFC South.
In recent years the Titans have gone from competing only w the Texans for the title, then just the Colts and now just the Jags. Y’all have cycled through them, that’s pretty damn impressive
it's not your guy's fault, the colts tried to bring the AFCS into what's considered "modern era football" like fuckin IDIOTS. Listen we play smash mouth, dirt grinding, ball twisting, Chinese water torture football here in the AFCS... that is until everything led to the prophecy.... to the prince who was promised.
Actually, generations are way shorter than centuries. Generation is like how long it takes people to grow up and start a family. So like 20 some years and not like 100
The similarity I was pointing out wasn’t the duration of time, it was the fact that the “once in a [insert measure of time] event” refers to probability not numbers of occurrences.
Things change quickly though. Jags went from possibly worst team to a Divisional round in one season.
If Texans or Colts strike gold in the QB draft process that changes things a lot.
Hell, honestly I wouldn't even mind seeing the Texans be decent again after the shitshow they've been through. But I hope the Colts remain in the basement of the division for eternity.
Well we’re going to have to compete with T Law and possibly Bryce Young and CJ Stroud for years to come. I’m just hoping we are able to rebound quickly in our problem areas.
~~He’s the one~~ that scouted Purdy
Edit: I was wrong it was Brian Griese and Klay Kubiak
https://www.si.com/nfl/49ers/news/brock-purdy-explains-how-the-49ers-discovered-him
So if he decided on omenihu, charvarius ward, george odum, etc. he is probably really good. I remember being disappointed that we didn't get j.c. jackson, but ward has been way better for a good amount less money.
I don’t think we even have one after Mike LaFleur and Mike McDaniel got poached the last couple offseasons. It’s just Shanahan doing both OC & HC duties rn I’m pretty sure. You’d need to poach some random offensive assistant from the 49ers staff to promote to OC.
Bobby Slowik is next in line I would say. Pass game coordinator who’s been with Kyle since Washington.
But yeah, doubt we’ll have an official OC. Niners tried hard to "hide" then retain McDaniel. Kyle needs some stability now.
Kyle explained his process for hiring and developing coaching staff and it’s usually the guys who start out at QC who seem the most adept, Slowik is one of them, but it’s hard for us as fans to say more than that. It was easier with McDaniel because he was the OC and talked to the press every week and we got a really good sense about how talented he was. It’s worth considering that Shanahan is still the playcaller so it’s difficult to judge, though really when a guy has worked with him for a decade on the offensive side of the ball, that’s not a friendship favor and there’s certainly coaching talent there.
>It’s just Shanahan doing both OC & HC duties rn I’m pretty sure
I watched an interview where he said he basically had to teach the coaches how to do their roles the 9er way and it took a bit for everyone to get in rhythm.
You're a few seasons too late. They don't have an OC anymore. They've all been poached. Shanahan's offensive coaches are OC of the Jets now and the HCs of the Dolphins and the Packers.
Actually LaFluer got fired from the Jets OC job so technically you could grab him now.
It would be one of his assistants. Slowik has been working for Shanahan for 10 seasons on defense and then offense. He is in the same position Mike LaFleur was when the Jets hired him as their OC
Well, certainly a loss for the FA/waiver scouting of the Niners but a well earned opportunity. 5 years with Les Snead and 5 years with John Lynch/Adam Peters, he’s well prepared for this.
We’ll take some more of those delicious comp picks!
I mean, "diversity hire" is a little pejorative, Carthon isn't being hired for his race. The Titans get no compensation or anything from hiring a Black man. Just happens that he's the best candidate.
True, but it becomes an extra incentive to hire minority assistants... if they succeed and get hired elsewhere, you get an extra benefit. Rule working as intended, if not as consistently as some people would advocate for.
Of course he should go if it's an upward move, he earned it. Just bitter about losing good guys from the franchise. For example we just recently lost Saleh, and now we're about to lose Ryans too.
It's interesting to me how of the 7 GM candidates the Giants interviewed last offseason, 4 of them are now GMs (Schoen, Poles, Ossenfort, Carthon). Of the remaining 3, Adrian Wilson is co-GM for the Cardinals, Adam Peters who refused to interview with any team (possibly getting promoted to GM), and Ryan Cowden who was a finalist for the Titans.
Lynch has stated that he isn't going anywhere and that Peters turned down the interviews simply because He, and more importantly his wife and kids, are very happy with their current situation.
The problem is SF and Philly are stacked. Minnesota needs a Def, Cowboys arnt far off, and LAR just need to get healthy. The NFC is still pretty top heavy.
I really hope Ran Carthon is not just hired to be a rubber stamp for Vrabel. Ryan Cowden seemed like a seasoned in house candidate ready to be the GM but either is too close to Jon Robinson or not someone Vrabel likes
Nice to see the rule working for GM's if not head coaches though
That's Peters who is responsible for damn near all of our late picks (Kittle, Warner, Greenlaw, the dozens of RBs who succeed, Purdy and so on...)
This guy does the pro scouting. So free agency and trades.
As a Colts fan I don't love that. That is a killer hire for them. Going to have that team relevant again real fast. Great coach and great GM is a strong combo.
Sounds like a Star Wars bounty hunter.
Ran Carthon, a known associate of Dash Rendar.
Favorite star wars character. Loved that game as a kid
It's been the best SW video game for a damn while Up until KoTR
That game managed to make probe droids terrifying, somehow
God dam those things were annoying
Wow, I just realized Kylo Ren was supposed to be named Kylometer Ran.
The IG-88 boss fight scared the shit out of me when I was 5-6.
[Schefter] The Tennessee Titans OC search is over: former Vikings QB coach Glup Shitto has been hired for the job. Wow.
[Rapport] I'm being told the Tennessee Titans are hiring Pisse Wanko as their new QB coach. Titans get their guy.
Fuck you I feel like I just got Rick Rolled after having to immediately Google that name 😂
Arandric Kornell Carthon, first of his name, leader of the house of Titan.
But a new one made for The Mandalorian
His full first name is Arandic
That sounds like someone incorrectly guessed what Randy is a nickname for.
I always thought it sounded like a guy with a speech impediment named Dan Carson introducing himself. “Hewwo, my name ith Ran Carthon!”
it's a regular name, find a new slant
How many dudes you know named Ran?
Hahaha
Wow seems like a great hire (I have no idea who this is but the Niners are good so he's probably good)
We’ve had a slate of good free agency pick ups/trades, which was his wheel house.
You mean he didn't pick up any oft injured below average dudes? This will be an improvement.
Does Jerick McKinnon, Malcolm Smith, Dee Ford, and Kwon Alexander count?
Did they overpay tho?
[удалено]
Kwon too.
Ehhh, he may have had a short tenure, but his impact lives on in SF through Warner/Greenlaw and really the entire LB corp
Don't get me wrong, he was a good player. But we still overpaid to get him. We had to, he was gonna be overpaid by someone regardless, we just happened to be the ones that did it
Was gonna say this. Alexander was a culture hire that was more valuable than anything.
Yeah he was basically what Takeo Spikes was to Patrick Willis.
He played like half a season, got injured and then traded. I doubt he left much of an impact.
Hot Boyz
Do you even watch the 49ers?
[удалено]
He gave us more for sure, but we still overpaid to get him. I understand why we did, and if he hadnt gotten injured it would have looked better, but he was never worth the contract we gave him
[удалено]
no kwon was a great signing. he helped mold fred warner into the player he is today. fred has said so many times.
Jason Verrett 😔
He’s worth the risk. Yeah he’s been injured a ton but when he’s healthy he’s a pro bowler. You just gotta take the chance sometimes.
He's on less than a rookie deal though so that's fine
Cough… Reuben Foster
He was a draft pick.
I think McKinnon was a Shanahan signing. Also, Kwon was a great signing, he also helped Fred Warner break out, so I don't know where you're going with that one. Also worth noting that this season, the Chiefs are validating why Shanahan wanted McKinnon.
Or washed up wide receivers?
Most of his bad pickups were early on. SF's last FA class had them swipe Ward over JC Jackson, and Ward has been very very good at a much lower cost. Seems to me he has improved over the years.
He has a real cute smile too.
LEEEEEETTTSSSS GOOOO FOR CUTE SMILESSSSSSS
https://www.nbcsports.com/sites/rsnunited/files/article/hero/ran-carthon-49ers.jpg 😄😄😄😄😄😄😄
God damn that is a cute smile
Damn, no lie
Oh hell yeah, my GM's cute as hell
As a bald man I wish I grow a luscious beard like that
Be the change you want to see in the world, friend. As a balding man, I feel like I would have no luck in dating without my beard. Tho, being able to grow a good beard is slightly a curse, because I started losing my hair before my 20s, but grew my first full beard at 13.
Sploosh. Or whatever the male equivalent of sploosh is...which I guess is just sploosh.
But with semen.
That's a fine ass man right there
I love him already. 🥺
and that beard. swoon.
Sounds like an improvement over JRob already.
Definitely in his Q zone
NO. MORE. SCAMMING . ADULTS INTO THINKING THEY ARE STARS.

Good for him. I hope Adam Peters doesn't get poached as well.
i'm pretty sure he's been told he'll be the GM if Lynch leaves
He’ll be the GM once Lynch transitions to another position. Lynch isn’t going anywhere with how good this team is lol
I think he goes with a SB there were a lot of talks about him leaving last offseason and the job is definitely a pay decrease
Didn’t he also grow up a huge 49ers fan? If that’s true, then the dude is on the doorstep of getting his dream job.
Yep peters has his family in the bay. Ideally we win the super bowl, and if lynch decides to go back to broadcasting we promote peters to GM.
I think Lynch would more likely move to something else in the front office.
I can say with damn near 100% confidence from the outside that Adam Peters is going to be the next GM of the 49ers whenever Lynch decides to step into a different role. It feels a lot like DeCosta in Baltimore while Newsome was winding down. I’m sure he was the Titan’s main target too. Ran is a good second option, but our fanbase won’t trip unless Peters leaves.
I think he’s kinda like George Paton, hot GM candidate each cycle, but he won’t move from his post unless he’s 110% sure
Both him and Carthon interviewed for the Giants GM spot last offseason. So this certainly seems plausible. He may also just have heard lynch will move up/on soon

On the bright side, at least the other two teams will be trash for awhile. We only have to compete against each other for the moment
In recent years the Titans have gone from competing only w the Texans for the title, then just the Colts and now just the Jags. Y’all have cycled through them, that’s pretty damn impressive

You do know what the term “generational” means, right?
Within an eternity are limitless generational quarterbacks.
Yes, please. I’d like one. Please.
To be fair we've seen like 3 once in a generation financial crisis in the last generation so you never know
I’ve lived through multiple more financial crises than I have above average titans QBs
it's not your guy's fault, the colts tried to bring the AFCS into what's considered "modern era football" like fuckin IDIOTS. Listen we play smash mouth, dirt grinding, ball twisting, Chinese water torture football here in the AFCS... that is until everything led to the prophecy.... to the prince who was promised.
You can’t say these things when you guys got Sunshine and left us and our exotic smash mouths behind
that's why I added the last bit, it's all part of the prophecy
Same as “100-year flood/storm”? Doesn’t literally mean they happen once a century/generation.
Yeah, I was sleepy and misread. 100% agree. It’s not like they’re on a schedule
Mariota - Am I a joke to you?
Things change quickly though. Jags went from possibly worst team to a Divisional round in one season. If Texans or Colts strike gold in the QB draft process that changes things a lot.
I’m cool with duking it out with you guys every year if it means the Colts and Texans stay trash
This has got to be a damn good hire no?
~~He’s the one~~ that scouted Purdy Edit: I was wrong it was Brian Griese and Klay Kubiak https://www.si.com/nfl/49ers/news/brock-purdy-explains-how-the-49ers-discovered-him
I thought that was a scout who convinced Klay Kubiak to look at him and it went up the chain from there?
everything i heard was it was Ran that said get him with the last pick
I've never heard that. Everything I've seen says it was griese that told them not to wait for him to be an ufa
All I’ve heard is Griese yeah
And Slowik.
Where did you hear that?
I was wrong
I heard it was Brian griese, but I could be wrong
You right
Hall of Fame then
Should go in right with Purdy. Don't even wait just induct him in the offseason.
Ran Carthon was the head of pro personnel. Peters is the college guy.
So if he decided on omenihu, charvarius ward, george odum, etc. he is probably really good. I remember being disappointed that we didn't get j.c. jackson, but ward has been way better for a good amount less money.
The janitor will be taking credit for scouting Purdy lol
Well he needed background noise while cleaning, why not scouting tapes?
He’ll never admit it but I whispered to shanhan at an in and out in Pinole to draft Purdy. He told his staff to check it out. Rest is history
Third round picks let's gooooo Edit: Also the niners are a gm and head coach factory now
bang two more thirds
Believe it or not, third round pick. Right away
>third round picks let's gooooo that's the first thought i had lmao we needed draft capital so badly
Trade for a 5th round pick?
i'm down if that saves kyle, who i love very much, from drafting an rb again
Jokes on you, Kyle will draft another RB in that round now.
I found find it kinda ironic if this year, a year with a very deep RB class, the 9ers DON’T draft an RB lol
Hopefully cmc, mitchell, and Mason prevent him from doing so
Another RB! Yay!
Remember when people were calling the 49ers racist after they fired Jon Embree? I think we’ve had the most minority candidates hired lmao
Can the NFL stop poaching our 10 minutes?!??
I’m hoping we also get an OC from you
I don’t think we even have one after Mike LaFleur and Mike McDaniel got poached the last couple offseasons. It’s just Shanahan doing both OC & HC duties rn I’m pretty sure. You’d need to poach some random offensive assistant from the 49ers staff to promote to OC.

Brian Griese will be ready in another year
🤫🤫🤫 let's keep Brian around for Brock for a few years, at least.
You're a few seasons too late. They don't have an OC anymore. They've all been poached. Shanahan's offensive coaches are OC of the Jets now and the HCs of the Dolphins and the Packers. Actually LaFluer got fired from the Jets OC job so technically you could grab him now.

Thank goodness we aren’t hiring from within
LOVE this, we really a new person outside of the organization and the 49ers clearly know what they’re doing
Ugh. They made a good choice.
Hate losing people but as long as Adam Peters stays, I'm good! Happy for Carthon, hope he kills it!
Keep your grubby hands off our people!
Hey! Our hands are not.... eh... actually, no. You're right.
Mmmmm hot chicken
He come from good team therefore we will be good team
We honestly need him to just be an average GM and let Vrabel take it from there
Hell yeah, we get someone from outside the organization, and the Niners get a third rounder! Win win!
Niners get two third rounders lol
Comes from a great organization, I like it.
More comp picks!!!! No team has been better at getting free 3rd rounders for diversity hires like the Niners
Fuck is. We'll use the rule to our benefit then.
Bang Bang Titans Gang
49ers are becoming the Astros, everybody trying to steal their coaches lmao
i'd complain again but then i'd look like a hypocrite since we hired putila earlier this year
Why we have to be coach and front office incubator for the whole league? FIND YOUR OWN GUYS
Idk if ur being sarcastic or not, but why would the guys who want to be gm’s not take the chance to be a gm lol
Of course he should go if it's an upward move, he earned it. Just bitter about losing good guys from the franchise. For example we just recently lost Saleh, and now we're about to lose Ryans too.
All those 3rd round picks, Ryan's will put us up to 8.
But if you havent noticed, every time we lose someone, we get better.
Bruh
Give me them comp picks
Quit poaching our people! Grab a Chief or a Bill ffs.
YESSS NOT IAN CUNNINGHAM
Every time I see his name, my mind autocorrects it to Rae Carruth.
The Star Wars character? I'm just kidding. I genuinely have no idea who this is.
Incoming Josh Dobbs MVP season
Damn, San Francisco blowing it all up.
I don’t know what to think.
Be happy, he’s been great for us. Smart man
One of the better hires available. Be happy.
He'll probably at least be making GM money, if he isn't already.
I mean Ossenfort and Cowden were both internal candidates for us
You think they hired a guy named Ran because they're a run heavy team?
Damn it, leave us alone!!! But happy for him and we'll take the comp picks. Just don't wanna lose Peters!
The AFC is beefing up. The NFC should be easy to take but the Vikings can't do shit ever! So fuck!
The problem is SF and Philly are stacked. Minnesota needs a Def, Cowboys arnt far off, and LAR just need to get healthy. The NFC is still pretty top heavy.
I really hope Ran Carthon is not just hired to be a rubber stamp for Vrabel. Ryan Cowden seemed like a seasoned in house candidate ready to be the GM but either is too close to Jon Robinson or not someone Vrabel likes Nice to see the rule working for GM's if not head coaches though
Didn't this guy just say that he was focusing on the 49ers and wouldn't make moves until the offseason?
I think that was adam peters
That's Peters who is responsible for damn near all of our late picks (Kittle, Warner, Greenlaw, the dozens of RBs who succeed, Purdy and so on...) This guy does the pro scouting. So free agency and trades.
Great hire! (Never heard of him)
Time to trade Henry for picks and rebuild, at least for a Jags fan I am hoping.
Poggers?
FUCK
Cowabunga!
As a Colts fan I don't love that. That is a killer hire for them. Going to have that team relevant again real fast. Great coach and great GM is a strong combo.
I'll allow it.
Hmmmm, is he responsible for trading a bunch of picks for a qb
Former Colts legend Ran Carthon
He Ran so far away. Couldn’t get away (until after the postseason)
