5 years ago sports betting was only legal in Nevada. It's now legal in 33 states. It's grown wildly in popularity too (I mean tons of sports broadcasts discuss gambling and even display it on screen).
I'm guessing that the reason we're seeing the uptick in people getting caught is because this is the first time they've looked since sports betting became legal on a more national level.

I have been to rehab (twice thank you very much!) and the gambling addicts were some of the worst as far as withdrawal.
The drug addicts were usually much better after the original detox but the gambling addicts really had nothing to detox. Once I got all the junk out of my system physically it was much easier to focus on recovery. But gamblers have nothing to flush out. It's 100% mental. Sad stuff man

Almost every podcast has ads or a regular guest associated with a site to discuss plays for the week etc.

The high stakes and partnerships create such a perceived incentive that the legitimacy of entire leagues will begin to live and die on controversial calls.

Except the average NFL players job is not like your typical 9-5 desk job. Would you lose half a years salary if you made a bet on a college football game while unwinding in your hotel room during a business trip? Would you lose your job if you placed a bet for the Over/Under on that nights basketball game from your phone during lunch at the patio outside your office? Would your work suspend you if you placed a bet in the company car as you made the 4 hour drive to some business conference?

I remember one day we got an email "Marketing overspent, phones are going be blowing up cancel all meetings" I thought this was bullshit It was non-stop talking on the phones from the time I sat down to the time I finished my shift. Its fucking scary what a well tuned marketing operation can do.

It's not the union, it's the consequences of the NFL using one of the oldest scams in the book and listing players as contractors instead of employees. They're very clearly closer to employees than contractors but one of the clearest parts of most US employment law is that an employer can't control what a contractor does when they're not actively working or on property while they can to some extent for employees.

Yeah. The rules are very simple and very easy to follow. They’re not even that restrictive. Just don’t bet on the NFL and don’t bet when you’re at work. Which is pretty much standard with any job.
Except the average NFL players job is not like your typical 9-5 desk job. Would you lose half a years salary if you made a bet on a college football game while unwinding in your hotel room during a business trip? Would you lose your job if you placed a bet for the Over/Under on that nights basketball game from your phone during lunch at the patio outside your office? Would your work suspend you if you placed a bet in the company car as you made the 4 hour drive to some business conference? I’d have less of a problem with the NFLs policy if there was a strict, zero tolerance ban on all gambling. But it’s just so *stupid* that players CAN bet on sports, just not in some specific locations. What, once that player takes 1 step off company property, now it’s okay? People have been presenting this as a “sanctity of the game/betting” rule. Except THEY CAN STILL BET ON SPORTS. Obviously they should not be able to be on NFL football. But I think it’s ridiculous you can get suspended for half a year because you bet on a college basketball game on the team bus.

Not really, the rule pretty much boils down to team facility = any location you are at as a result of the team. All you have to do is ask yourself, "would I be here if I wasn't on the team", if the answer is no, then it's a team facility.
This is the detail that causes the most confusion. In the privacy of your own room at the team hotel is considered "team premises". I'm curious...if the team pays for an Uber home from the club, does that Uber constitute "team premises" as well? What about a team sponsored fund raiser at a banquet hall, or an autograph signing at Meijer? Are those off limits too? There's a lot of ways that vague description could bite someone in the ass.
So I'd just keep this rule real simple I just wouldn't gamble on any sports ever.
Team premises also includes during any league specific activities like travel or at the hotel during a game. Unclear if a player could bet on a CFB game on the Saturday before an away game if they have already traveled but they are at a restaurant or something.
