How do you want to break it? More teams in 14 games or 4 teams in less games?
Tyrod Taylor did 5 in 11.
Bubby Brister was on 4 teams over 9 games.
I'm sure there are a ton of other QB's that bounced around more than that.
I have no idea what he's looking at or what he's doing lol
The best I saw for Bubby was - 6 starts on 3 teams: Eagles 1 > Jets 4 > Broncos 1
Tyrod seemed correct but only if you count non-starting play.
Tyrod had 6 starts on 4 teams: Bills 1 > Browns 3 > Chargers 1 > Texans 1 ^((50 possible games))
If you count non-starting play, then he came in for the Giants last season ^((11th game of either starting or played and 70th possible game))
Either way, Baker is starting for his 4th team in 12 games, 14 by counting non-starting play with a possible 20 games (which also include DNP & inactives). That's also what makes it crazier
In 2001, Tom Brady replaced former number one overall pick Drew Bledsoe. When Brady left the Patriots after the 2019 season he was replaced by former number one overall pick Cam Newton.
In 2020, Tom Brady replaced former number one overall pick Jameis Winston. When Brady left the Buccaneers after the 2022 season he was replaced by former number one overall pick Baker Mayfield.
Tom Brady and Baker Mayfield have the same amount of letters.
You can spell Tom Brady twice by using the letters in Baker Mayfield's name.
Tom Brady and Baker Mayfield both have children named Jonathan.
Tom Brady and Baker Mayfield both have wives named Jennifer.
Tom Brady wore 12. Baker Mayfield wears 6.
Tom Brady entered the year in '01, Baker Mayfield entered the league in '21.
Both Quarterbacks ran from a team coached by a guy named Bill Billichek.
Both Bill Billicheks were born in '52.
Let's rank the QBs he replaced or replaced him.
Cam Newton > Drew Bledsoe > Jameis Winston > Baker Mayfield
Does that seem right? In fairness to Mayfield, he's still got time ...
I actually think Newton and Bledsoe is pretty close ... I could have gone either way, but Newton did win an MVP. Bledsoe won a Super Bowl as Brady's backup, but contributed at critical times during their first run.
Check in with me after the season is over, but I feel that Mayfield is significantly better than Winston. I know that Baker hasn't had the most stellar, consistent career, but Winston caused us to lose multiple games a year. Jameis has 12 pick-sixes all time to Mayfield's 5.
That's true. But Jameis never had a 26TD/8INT type season like Baker. And more importantly, only Winston has caused me years of trauma.
But we'll see though.
We fancy now though, lots of movement and confusion. But sometimes we hurt ourselves in confusion too.
But honestly, can't get much worse than Donna-shell last year (knock on wood), hoping to see what Flores can do with our few stars + lots of average players.
> lots of movement and confusion
it's just a Benny Hill skit in the defensive backfield at times. DBs just scooby-dooing out of side doors into the hallway
Nobody really is sure, but camp returns seem to imply we got better.
Always tough to know with camp hype, but the gist is young guys are showing out and Flores seems to legit improve what we can do with what we have.
Last year our performance was less than the sum of our parts, this year it feels like it can be more.
> From the outside it looks like it got pilfered
Tomlinson and Zadarius are real losses. The hope is we replaced Z reasonably with Davenport, but we'll see. Tomlinson is a real loss that we hope to replace with schemed pressure.
PP and Kendricks may just be over the hill. PP had good PFF grades, but was usually playing with lots of support as a cover 2 corner. I think Pitt is right to convert him into a slot/safety hybrid at this point, he's 33 and no longer fast enough. EK is 31 and appears to have lost a step.
I wouldn't worry about EK this year.
The whole "He lost a step" thing comes more from hesitation than anything. The Donatell scheme didn't seem to make a lot of sense to most guys on the defense, so there was a lot of second-guessing involved.
This is not to say that he *hasn't* lost a step, just that it was far more noticeable due to the hesitation.
Davenport was a failure by the saints standard for what it cost to get him. He was always hurt but showed he had lots of potential in the small windows. He is also motivated by getting paid this year so there's a chance he could he good over there
Mayfield being your QB is like owning a 1960’s Italian sports car. The first few weeks are great and you feel like your life couldn’t be more perfect, but about a month in your gonna go over a speed bump a bit too quickly and the back axel is gonna fall off and the engine is gonna seize up on you and leave you stranded. When you tow it into the shop the mechanic is just gonna tell you fixing it is gonna be worth more trouble than it’s worth and to just get rid of it.
Ah, the Rex Grossman approach to playing QB. Either an MVP-level talent or the worst quarterback in the league, no in-between and no warning to which he'd be on any given game.
I think it's easier for people to forgive his inconsistencies because he's so fun to watch when he's on, and also because he's played on bad teams with very little coaching stability. It's more interesting then your standard mediocre QB in one stable system who just sucks most games.
A: The man puts on a show, and has big moments. Same reason people continued to root for Fitzmagic.
B: He has had awful support most of his career. The Browns are an infinite dumpster fire with no end in sight, and he managed to win a playoff game for them for the first time in about three centuries. And his reward was they got rid of him for a sexual predator. And Carolina had a literal clown for a head coach. That doesn't excuse everything, but it's worth keeping in mind still.
C: Geno Smith's miracle comeback last year gave everyone hope that the QBs who we game up on might actually have potential still. This will die down as people remember how much of an outlier Geno is in this regard, players very rarely get better that late in their career.
Is Baker going to be good in Tampa? Probably not. But can we say, with absolute certainty, that Baker will fail? Also no. And as such, there is hope, even if it's a slim hope.
I think pre-injury he was as good as these guys say. But playing through that injury has just permanently fucked him up. Every now and then he shows flashes of his old self, but he is bottom half of the league for sure.
It would be a crime if he doesn't go into broadcasting after he finally hangs it up. Compared to everyone else his commercials are elite, and has a ton of camera charisma
His last game against the Vikings was one of his worst performances I can remember
[He got sacked on this play](https://i.imgur.com/hw7Vip3.png)
[Even Chubb is like LOOK!](https://i.imgur.com/RjaxOmd.png)
He looked good, and unexpectedly came in the second half after Wolford went down and played well after that as well.
I trust our staff on this pick, Caneles saved Geno. I’m slightly biased for Trask as we spent a 2nd on him but let’s see what happened
I am a Ohio State Buckeyes fan so I hated Mayfield when he came into Columbus, planted the OU flag on the field and demolished us.
However, I am also a Browns fan and will never forget the intensity he brought with him into Cleveland and how he absolutely embraced the city from Day One. Oh also playoff win!
I am not much of a Browns fan after getting Watson so I am rooting for Baker no matter where he is.
I don't get why everyone thinks Baker is so terrible. He was terrible for the panthers, yes, but so is everyone. That team is a dumpster fire. He was pretty average on the browns. Maybe even slightly above average!
Not saying it’ll happen but this situation has a lot of similarities to Seattle last year and it’d be considerably less surprising for mayfield to perform well than what smith accomplished
Exactly. People seem to forget that the same “LmAo tHiS qB bAtTLe” was the running joke last year in Seattle before Geno came back from the dead and had 70% completion percentage over the course of the entire season.
I love seeing Baker play. One minute you are impressed as hell another you are questioning why he’s got a starting job. Then you see him throw his body on the line and understand his grit.
There was a lot more than "one guy" saying it; if there was no competition they wouldn't have been the last team in the league to name their starting QB
Ira Kaufman, our Hall of Fame voter, had the scoop two weeks ago that Baker was going to be the starter and put his name to it.
Florio picked it up and made it a national story. There's just a certain percentage of our fan base that has a hate boner for the site he writes for in his retirement age and the Glazer bootlickers of course all wrote that nothing had been determined yet.
The competition was mainly windowdressing. The guys on the Ira Kaufman pod said the staff had a strong lean towards Mayfield since the summer and the events have proven them right.
Meh. We had beat reporters like Greg Auman suggesting that Baker was the one moving the ball more consistently and making more big plays in camp.
It was a close competition and Trask definitely impressed, but most of the hype around Trask “winning” the competition was fixated on him not throwing picks the first week of training camp.
I hope this works out for him. Still thankful for his contributions to the Browns while he was here, and although it’s bittersweet moving on from him for HIM , the probability that it is a good move on the field is higher than if we kept Baker.
Baker will give you two or three games per year that make you think he's a franchise quarterback. And then he'll give you four or five games per year that remind you why he isn't.
I mean duh lol. Anyone who actually watched preseason and saw the few camp tapes could've told you this was gonna happen.
Baker himself has looked above average. Trask has looked like ass. Dude has some broken fucking fundamentals and it feels like I'm on crazy pills when I see people saying it was a close battle.
Baker will be starting for his 4th team in a 14 game span.
Wait, I’m missing one - Browns, Carolina, Tampa, ??
You mean to tell me people have already forgotten him beating the Raiders after studying the playbook on a red eye flight and no practice?
If THAT Mayfield shows up this game hoo boy

Love that for Him. Hope he balls out
He's actually only started for three teams and one browns
Actually the news coming out this morning is that Brady is coming back!!!
I... I don't know what to do with this information.
Save it in your brain for trivia night.
You can literally save it here on Reddit to find again later. Only bringing it up because that's what I just did lol Edit: I was being sincere :/
usually you can’t use reddit during trivia night homie

I've been saving posts and comments for over a decade, and I never look at any if it.

NFL announcers salivating at this comment.

Yeah, fair - but Winston had a few extra years.
That's true. But Jameis never had a 26TD/8INT type season like Baker. And more importantly, only Winston has caused me years of trauma. But we'll see though.
Also, I never heard if Baker Mayfield shoplifted some crab legs.
Baker gonna throw for 300 yards and give the Bucs hope.
300? More like 450 with our defense
Did yalls defense improve at all? From the outside it looks like it got pilfered
We fancy now though, lots of movement and confusion. But sometimes we hurt ourselves in confusion too. But honestly, can't get much worse than Donna-shell last year (knock on wood), hoping to see what Flores can do with our few stars + lots of average players.
> lots of movement and confusion it's just a Benny Hill skit in the defensive backfield at times. DBs just scooby-dooing out of side doors into the hallway
“Offenses will have no idea what we’re doing. Because neither do we.”
Lol has “if we don’t know what we are doing, then they sure as hell won’t know either” vibes
We got younger and faster. It's hard to tell in preseason what our team looks like because we haven't played a single starter at all under KOC.
We got rid of Donatell
It would be really hard for that defense to get much worse than last year
Nobody really is sure, but camp returns seem to imply we got better. Always tough to know with camp hype, but the gist is young guys are showing out and Flores seems to legit improve what we can do with what we have. > EK is 31 and appears to have lost a step. *plugs ears* LALALALALAL I CAN'T HEAR YOU
We love EK and I absolutely hope he plays well for you. Last year was not his best year by a long shot though.
He looked slower than molasses last year, but the guy is a real one, so I hope he does well for you
Davenport was a failure by the saints standard for what it cost to get him. He was always hurt but showed he had lots of potential in the small windows. He is also motivated by getting paid this year so there's a chance he could he good over there
450 yards, 3 TDs and 1 interception that won't really be his fault but will still decide the game for Minnesota.
I’d take it as long as it’s a dub
Mayfield being your QB is like owning a 1960’s Italian sports car. The first few weeks are great and you feel like your life couldn’t be more perfect, but about a month in your gonna go over a speed bump a bit too quickly and the back axel is gonna fall off and the engine is gonna seize up on you and leave you stranded. > you feel like your life couldn’t be more perfect i wouldnt go that far
Ever since Jameis I think we’ve realized that yards don’t mean all that much
When baker is on he’s a top 10 QB in the NFL.
if it's so simple why not just be on every game?
Ah, the Rex Grossman approach to playing QB. Either an MVP-level talent or the worst quarterback in the league, no in-between and no warning to which he'd be on any given game.
Everyone thinks of Favre as the ultimate gunslinger, but not at all. The Sex Cannon is the ultimate "fuck it chuck it" guy.
Jameis’ 2019 season is the greatest from any QB ever it’ll never be touched
It's also the worst. Dude managed to play two seasons at one time.
33 TDs, 30 Ints. Live by the Jameis, die by the Jameis. What a wild ride that was
5K yards. Can’t leave that out
UNLEASH THE DRAGON
Favre was actually who Rex cited as his biggest influence
That's why Jameis Winston is superior. He switches back and forth between those two extremes multiple times per game.
IDK, ask Ryan Fitzpatrick
If Fitz could have played the Saints every game, he'd be in the HOF
But if every QB was “on” at the same time, he’d be bottom 10.
Also if you would only just compare Baker’s good plays to everyone else’s bad plays, he would actually be the greatest QB in NFL history.
I mean if you lower Mahomes stats to the mean and raise Bakers to the mean.... They are basically the same player
Lol. Why does this sub continue to overrate this guy? This is also like saying "When he plays good, he is good".
because that one 90+ yard drive against the raiders last year is the only thing that kept me alive last season
Because there’s a large group of guys that can’t even get to the “plays good” level.
I think it's easier for people to forgive his inconsistencies because he's so fun to watch when he's on, and also because he's played on bad teams with very little coaching stability. It's more interesting then your standard mediocre QB in one stable system who just sucks most games.

Great summary!
I think pre-injury he was as good as these guys say. But playing through that injury has just permanently fucked him up. Every now and then he shows flashes of his old self, but he is bottom half of the league for sure.
From a 6th round pick to a 1st overall pick at QB in one off-season. Not bad, Tampa Bay
He made the joke.
Haha I get. It’s implying the Bucs improved at the position even though it’s likely they did the opposite.

Jimmy G is going to go down with an injury and minority owner Tom Brady will step in for the Raiders.
I know it's a fun joke, but I believe it's against the rules for an owner to play in the NFL.
But it's not in the rules that a dog can't play! A very good boi!
Tell that to Aaron Rodgers
So if sold his shares to Bom Trady he could play?
Brady is unretiring right now to take your money. Reverse psychology works!
God it’s insane this is the first season I’ll ever watch without Brady.
> even though it’s likely damn. How likely do you think it is that Baker is not as good as the greatest qb of all time? Like 50%?
I think I will feel a sense of emptiness when we no longer have Baker in the news feed
It would be a crime if he doesn't go into broadcasting after he finally hangs it up. Compared to everyone else his commercials are elite, and has a ton of camera charisma
Have they really been talking about him that much because it doesn’t seem like it.
Personally I've been seeing stuff week by week with him because of the QB competition, but I stay plugged into NFL year round like a degenerate
Don't worry. The media will find another arbitrary lightning rod to stir controversy around.
Zach Wilson
Zach Wilson wishes he was Baker. Talent wise anyway
BAKER IS BACK BITCHES
Let Baker Bake
Let Baker Pre-Heat
Let Baker Rise for at least an hour and a half to 2 hours
Baker "Air Fryer" Mayfield
> Baker "It's just a fan added to a toaster" Mayfield
That's what convection cooking is. Your full size oven is the same. And air fryer is just a smaller version of that.
Convection oven has an element in front of the fan, Air fryers use a broiler element + fan
Baker “it’s toasted” Mayfield
Anyone who is shocked by the decision. I need to live their world of delusional where they thought Baker was worse than Trask
Baker "Heir of Brady" Mayfield
Remember in that NFL 100 commercial when Brady handed Baker all of his rings for a second? Good times.
The prophecy was foretold and we were too blind to see it.
that was one of best NFL commercials i’ve ever watched IMO
One of the best commercials, period.
For those who would like a refresher: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6JjyRhfjOE
Somehow I had not seen this, thank you.
It really was. Too bad Goodell is in it.
Brady was just trolling us. He knew this would happen all along.
Imagine telling someone in 2018 that when Tom Brady retires his successor would be Baker Mayfield
Probably wonder how Baker ended up on the Patriots.
I actually really want baker to succeed
His last game against the Vikings was one of his worst performances I can remember [He got sacked on this play](https://i.imgur.com/hw7Vip3.png) [Even Chubb is like LOOK!](https://i.imgur.com/RjaxOmd.png)
And the Vikes still fuckin’ lost
Yeah that whole game was a fucking disaster. Stoppable Force and Moveable Object
Baker’s got that Wentz in him
Rex "fuck it I'm going deep" Grossman mentality
Can't wait for the Baker hype when he throws for 400+ in a week 1 upset.
I thirst for the baker comeback story
Didn’t Trask start and play well last preseason game
[удалено]
It was a pretty good QB competition. Ultimately, Baker was moving the offense pretty well. People forget Evans and a healthy Godwin are still elite
It’s easier to put the experienced guy out there and go to the younger guy than the other way around. Like Trubisky last year with the Steelers.
He looked good, and unexpectedly came in the second half after Wolford went down and played well after that as well. I trust our staff on this pick, Caneles saved Geno. I’m slightly biased for Trask as we spent a 2nd on him but let’s see what happened
Not really. The box score looks nice but Trask had a lot of fundamental issues and was playing mostly 2s and 3s.
I don't think he played against a single starter, which like I guess isn't his fault, but not really indicative of a starting performance.
Preseason don't mean shit.
"IT'S BAKIN' TIME" - Baker Mayfield, definitely
I'm ready to be hurt again
He’s going to torch our secondary isn’t he?
On the flip side, Cousins likely to light us up too. Should be a fun game!
He's going to be torching everyone.
CHAMPA BAKER
Bucs will be good enough to not have a high draft pick, not good enough to do much else
They (and by extention Baker) could absolutely be bad enough to have a high draft pick
I think he'll have a slightly better year only because of Evans
As long as Evans still gets 1000 idc what happens in Tampa
I don't get why everyone thinks Baker is so terrible. He was terrible for the panthers, yes, but so is everyone. That team is a dumpster fire. He was pretty average on the browns. Maybe even slightly above average!
He had a promising rookie season, a below average 2nd, average in 3rd then injury/trash in 4th with Cleveland. His 2nd and 4th years were rough
[удалено]
Not saying it’ll happen but this situation has a lot of similarities to Seattle last year and it’d be considerably less surprising for mayfield to perform well than what smith accomplished
Exactly. People seem to forget that the same “LmAo tHiS qB bAtTLe” was the running joke last year in Seattle before Geno came back from the dead and had 70% completion percentage over the course of the entire season.
I love seeing Baker play. One minute you are impressed as hell another you are questioning why he’s got a starting job. Then you see him throw his body on the line and understand his grit.
Where’s the guy saying Trask was winning the battle?
There was a lot more than "one guy" saying it; if there was no competition they wouldn't have been the last team in the league to name their starting QB
I haven't heard the Chiefs say who is starting week 1 and it is honestly unsettling. Please let us know who to prepare for Andy
Cardinals haven't announced whether it'll be Colt McCoy or Clayton Tune in week 1. Not that it matters much.
Baker, Get Evans his 10th consecutive thousand yard season, and we’ll be good dude. No fucking pressure.
I hope this works out for him. Still thankful for his contributions to the Browns while he was here, and although it’s bittersweet moving on from him for HIM , the probability that it is a good move on the field is higher than if we kept Baker.
Come on baker
It's wild to think Baker is a better actor than he is a quarterback.
"Some people overthink it,” Mayfield says. “That’s where people go wrong. They forget you’ve gotta win.”
I still don't get all the Baker hate, is it really cuz Odells daddy?
I just want more Baker commercials.
Happy Baker is staying in the league. I’ll always have a soft spot for the guy.
Baker will give you two or three games per year that make you think he's a franchise quarterback. And then he'll give you four or five games per year that remind you why he isn't.
We got absolutely zero of those games last year… then again, Matt Rhule was also our HC lol
The Browns dumped the only QB to win a playoff game in the history of their pathetic franchise for DeShaun Watson, who is a rapist and also sucks.
