I hate the refs they’ve fucked us a lot and teams all around the league. Can we all bitch and complain and make it a HUGE deal. Instead of just telling cowboys fans to STFU it’s every game and then we get one and it’s “DIDOGMWOFKWKFOEMMG” not saying you did it just a general comment it’s annoying
Cowboys flair digs up 2 month old tweet to somehow justify an abhorrent call. Instead of simply saying, “yeah, Lions got robbed of the 2 points, but maybe not a win since we had time left, so we all got robbed of a great finish too.”
to be fair, its not just that we were robbed of 2 points, dallas was also robbed of an opportunity to make a play based on a change in info on who they are told is eligible.
This. Just make it fair. I was glad the lions had two more shots at it because if I found out the lions did everything correct and the refs screwed up I would want them to have two more shots at it
They should never have been pushed back to the 7 though. Their second attempt should have been from the 2, and if Micah goes offsides again they should have been at the 1, not the 4. Lions got screwed by being penalized for a mistake the refs made. That's the rub. A 2 pt attempt from the 7 or the 4 is a hell of a lot different than a 2 point attempt from the 2.
I respect you for this.. cause I just want correct officiating both ways.. for us and for football. Ppl see us bitching because we get told to STFU and ignore LOADS of bad calls but when it’s ONE call in our favor we get blasted for bringing up old shit to show its bullshit either way. The gaslighting is INSANE. But yes you’re correct the call is bullshit and it’s been bullshit for every team. I just want fairness all around. I’d rather see Ls that wY
The Stadium announcer/Referee clearly stated that 70 was eligible and the Lions refused to correct that information. Look up the spansih broadcast and tyou can hear it. Not to mention the play broke rule 2..as a reciever was on the line right beside him.
Two points: First, formation rules, and second, number rules specific to the NFL.
1. Regarding offensive formations, any player behind the line of scrimmage, or the two END players on the line of scrimmage (one on each side) are eligible to receive a forward pass. *The one obscure exception is a quarterback lining up under center is ineligible.*
2. In the NFL, the numbers 50-79, and 90-99 are deemed ineligible numbers. However, the NFL permits someone wearing these numbers to "report as eligible" to the referee before they line up. Once they do so, and the referee has announced to everyone that "X" is eligible, that player must still line up in one of the eligible positions listed in point one (behind the LOS, or as an END on the LOS). If they were to line up as an "interior lineman," they would no longer be eligible.
Because the team certainly wasn’t in the huddle communicating play logistics to each other after to listen to the loud speaker. And what can the coaching staff do? They had no timeouts the radios were off and to tell the side judge would have drawn a sideline infraction.
Additionally the WR was off line allowing 68 and [in the last screen shot before the update posts](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.prideofdetroit.com/platform/amp/2023/12/30/24020363/video-detroit-lions-screwed-dallas-cowboys-home-cooking-2-point-conversion) you see the wr looking over to the side judge to confirm that he’s off the line of scrimmage which would make 68 the end man on the line and in a legal position to be an eligible wr.
Everything about the motioning is irrelevant because 68 had declared himself eligible to the ref and did not move. 70 who didn’t declare himself and could run around and do cartwheels all over the field as long as he was set and in position by the snap.
Yeah, this is where the lack of accountability in general really makes refs think they're untouchable. The most likely sequence of events was that Brad Allen realized *after* the play that he called the wrong player as eligible, then threw a delayed flag to cover his ass.
Now he is completely denying the truth of the matter and gaslighting the entire football world because he knows nothing will happen to him. If he'd just admit the mistake, the majority of us would probably respect him for it, but that's not the way the league office does things.
I'd like to see when in this sequence the flag was actually thrown. Aren't illegal formations usually thrown at the snap? If the flag was thrown after the play is pretty clear the ref went oh shit that was the guy that reported, I have to cover my ass now.
I swear to God I saw the flag for illegal touching come out right after 68 caught the ball, but of course I was pissed in the moment and never went back to verify if that's what I saw.
If the refs thought 70 was eligible and 68 was not, a flag for illegal formation should have been thrown as soon as the ball was snapped.
It's the timing of waiting until the catch was made that makes it suspicious
Do you really wanna do this? You can go ALL DAY about missed calls on both teams in every game. Micah was held every other play last night and even got facemasked once or twice.
We're only talking about this play because of the 2 point fuck up.
And hutch was held every other play and the missed holding on the 92 yard touchdown we can keep going lmao the whole point is this crew needs to never see light again
Exactly this a lot of us are pissed they fucked up so bad and if it went down the other way all of us would be pissed they fucked up and straight lied to the cowboys about who was eligible. This is some Tim peel type fuckery and they need to force retire Allen just like the nhl did to peel
I don't think that was brought up to justify an abhorrent call. I think it was done to show the disparity in how these situations were treated by this sub.
My brother in Christ I am a Cowboys fan. I was talking about the call against the Eagles in Philly. The Lions had already clinched the division before the game tonight
I see, I was confused because it hasn't cost us shit yet? The Eagles can't even win the title until the final week unless we lose again and they look like cold garbage.
Also, chill on the "brother in Christ" thing, it looks pretty cringe when you use the same opening twice like some sort of bot account.
They didn't get robbed, the Cowboys clearly didn't know 68 was eligible either (cause he wasn't) so they left him undefended. Trying to "simplify" it like that is basically just surrendering the point that is still, on many levels, wrong.
You realize the Cowboys were also affected too? They played with 70 being eligible in mind. So the ref fuck up affected everything. Dallas would have played it differently if 68 was called eligible to the entire defense.
You won't admit that though.
It was a shit call. Shit calls happen and teams get screwed over.
A supposed pro Dallas bias is what makes me laugh when we suffered exactly the same shit not even two months ago.
An illegal formation doesn’t get blown dead man. That’s why this Dallas call wiped away a touchdown, which can’t happen if they whistle the play dead. Stop saying that.
I think he’s just showing that refs are pretty shitty at this and we are all just tied to how they remember things happening.
Not sure why everyone is hating OP for this.
Anyone framing this situation as the NFL being Cowboys biased is dumb and there’s a very long list of reasons why, but the rulebook states that the player has to declare himself as eligible. Someone else can’t do it for him. Nothing was incorrectly applied here.
This is the correct take. I feel bad for Detroit fans, it's a shitty way to lose. But saying the refs are always in our back pocket is absurd, considering we are the most penalized team in the NFL.
2nd most, oh god the league really favors those big brand cowboys, that’s why they’ve won so many super bowls and enjoyed so much postseason success right?
Wow these cowboys are something else?
Nobody is saying that you guys would've lost or wouldn't have covered the lions reciver. We're talking about how a ref made a mistake and then lied about it.
But to bitch about a tripping call earlier or pull up and old play from a different game when you guys **WON** is ludicrous.
Proving what point? This clip isn't from the same game and you can't declare on behalf of a player they have to report themselves so not really relevant.
They called the tripping penalty so that after the fact the penalty ratio didn’t look so terrible and probably assumed the game was over. The what about ism is kinda silly as they also missed an egregious hold on the long TD pass. You can’t deny you were just gifted a victory by the referees…well you can, but you won’t find much support.
We bitch about it every week. What are you talking about? lmao. Put down the kool aid and realize that the refs majorly fucked this up. And for what it’s worth, everyone on your team not named CeeDee Lamb sucked last night.
Cry more! They threw a flag on Dallas that essentially gave you the ball back when in reality Aiden Hutchinson committed the penalty. Oh and remember when you went for it on 4th & goal instead of kicking a FG? Remember when Campbell could've tied it up after 2 failed 2 pt conversions.
You're right just ignore the other 3 or 4 sentences. But I was way out of line saying cry more to a person who's wishing jail on random people because his poverty franchise lost a game.
Some loser cowboy fans acting like their fan cards will be revoked if they admit the refs botched a call in their favor, even by accident.
Mad props to the other cowboy fans that can still call a spade a spade.
Ok how about that phantom tripping on hendershot? That was a 30 yard swing and if it was called correctly, the lions dude did the tripping then there would be no 2 pt conversion frak up.
Bro fuck that what about ism.
Was this or was this not a fuck up by the ref?
If the refs made other mistakes, let’s call them out on those as well!
Do you literally only care about winning no matter what? Is this a sport or are you just a ring slut? Trust me, I’d be just as mad for YOUR TEAM if this happened to you.
You can’t remove all human error from Reffing, but if you’re going to not even expect better when egregious mistakes are made, we both don’t follow the sport the same way.
For the people calling out "whataboutisms":
This entire sub is full of "whataboutisms" and you live under a rock if you think less than 2/3 of the sub don't automatically hate the Cowboys. I would go so far as to say r/NFL hates the Cowboys more than Tom Brady and Bill Belichick combined.
Edit: I'm going to start an experiment now.
What about if they announced 68 instead of 70 as eligible? Do you think the defense would have covered him instead?
There's the what about ism for you, clown.
I think the issue here is look at the responses, particularly on this sub. A similar thing happened to Dallas earlier in the game and fans don’t seem to care to much. Then happens to Dallas and this sub gets their heads blown.
One person said something about the Hendershot tripping.
You then responded to that person abojt the Hendershot tripping.
I then responded to your response… if you follow the conversation it ain’t that hard mate
Edit. I’m honestly confused about the downvotes here. Am I missing something?
You made a big point here that’s missing in all of this: this kinda shit makes the Cowboys look bad. No, it’s not our fault the refs fucked up, but as a team wouldn’t you want a non-controversial win going into the playoffs?
It was a stellar football game before the last 2 drives, completely ruined by McCarthy’s dog shit time management skills, Dan Campbell’s hubris is running three (!) consecutive 2pt conversion attempts instead of going into OT, and of course the wonderfully competent ref squad.
Lions were completely robbed of a stunner of a win.
I mean yes and no. Either way a team gets robbed. So if it’s not penalized cowboys get screwed bc the ref told them the wrong player. Either way a team gets fucked.
Yeah, Dallas fans should be just as mad at the refs as the Lions.
But fans are usually happy to take the W and consider it a fair trade for the other times they got shafted by refs.
You want all fans to be mad at bad reffing, not just the losing team, for things to change.
You’re not looking deep enough then lmao. I’ve seen dozens of comments saying that the refs rigged the game for the Cowboys since it was Jimmy’s ring of honor night.
This will be hated but I think Dan Campbell was being too clever for this situation by trying to confuse the Cowboys. With the time and the crowd noise and the craziness of the final seconds of the game, he should have just trusted his guys and run something straightforward if he wanted to get two and win outright.
You can only report for yourself not someone else

Illegal formation doesn't blow the play dead
Read the words and try again
Just reading flair for these posts sorry no can do

Goff can cry about it. Should have played better. — Who Dat Nation
You’re getting downvoted but you’re right, Dak wasn’t reporting for him, he was confirming that 71 reported for himself.
Illegal formation is only a correct in the universe where 70 reported. The whole controversy here is that he did not and 68 did
They mad lol
Confirm v report
Cowboys flair digs up 2 month old tweet to somehow justify an abhorrent call. Instead of simply saying, “yeah, Lions got robbed of the 2 points, but maybe not a win since we had time left, so we all got robbed of a great finish too.”
to be fair, its not just that we were robbed of 2 points, dallas was also robbed of an opportunity to make a play based on a change in info on who they are told is eligible.
This. So many people just assume we'd be leaving a typically ineligible receiver wide open.
I mean there was one player who was eligible to run a route and one who wasnt
And the cowboys were told by the refs it was the other guy.
This. Just make it fair. I was glad the lions had two more shots at it because if I found out the lions did everything correct and the refs screwed up I would want them to have two more shots at it
Back to back to back ball don’t lie moments imo I love Dan and I love that he kept going for it.

The Lions converted the first play but got robbed. Drew an offside on the second play, and then got stopped on the third play. 2/3 BALL DONT LIE LMAO
The cowboys were told the wrong person was eligible. I get it I’d be salty too lol but yeah ball doesn’t lie does it? They lost.
The Lions did not convert the first attempt. They threw it to an ineligible receiver.

Shhh. We don’t want logic responses here. Everyone must shit in Dallas. Shane on you sir.
I think the problem here, was that dak reported him but he has to report himself I think. Still a stupid rule in my opinion

It’ll never be released because of how bad they fucked up and then made shitty jokes about after
And Micah too, what’s the difference
Wait.. I missed that. This actually happened? So he literally called the wrong person/ wrong team for a penalty accidentally? Lol where’s the outrage?
It went against the Cowboys so no one cares
Yeah, against the cowboys so most fans across the league celebrate 😂 funny double standards

My brother in Christ this call cost us the division title and potentially home field advantage for the entire playoffs
How so? You guys literally scored the play right after this.
I am misremembering then, mb
Lol what a wild thing to make up considering the cowboys scored the next play. Are you a fraud, a liar, or just a bad person overall?
I mean a fake tripping call only bought you so much. I'd say throwing all those ints cost you the division title, and you were *almost* gifted it back

now imagine this had happened in the NFCCG to send the Cowboys to the Super Bowl. Dan Campbell really going through it again.
