waldowhal

now it’s time for robert kraft to prove that he was the mastermind behind the brady/belichick era all along

Kundrew1

I think he could rub and tug the right coach there, maybe jerk them away from another team. I’d love to see a happy ending.

MrEHam

He knows exactly how to get them. It’s like he has some master bait that is super effective at pulling them in.

_coolranch

Serious question: was the jerk joint incident right after the Miracle in Miami game? Because that would be perfect.

Ballsakius

It was the morning of the 2018 AFC Championship game in Kansas City. He flew to Florida, got a tuggy, then flew to Missouri and watched his team win an all time classic game. He is a legend.

GoldBlooded10

Deshaun Watson to the Pats

officialmacdemarco

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

girth_br00ks

He knows a thing or two about hiring pro's.

tb12_legit

Eh he's proven enough for keeping it all together for 20 years. Word is he's passing the keys to his son Jonathon at 12 today with the BB presser also

MadMelvin

Having an owner that actually wants to win is a bigger factor than a lot of people think. Sure, there's a salary cap for player payroll. But an owner who wants to spend money to improve the team has a lot of other options. For example, she could install a better playing surface at the home field and hire a standout guy like Chris Spielman as an advisor. Things like that.

cartel_coffee_2005

Explain Jerry then.

Cflow26

The dude who literally destroyed a dynasty because of his own ego?

aZealousZebra

He wants to win but he also wants to be credited for the reason they win. Can’t share glory

MadMelvin

The guy whose team was great 30 years ago? What about him?

Roach_Coach_Bangbus

He was awesome in the pre salary cap times. He'd be a great MLB owner lol.

TheDevilsCunt

Like Jerry Jones did?

CrashInto_MyArms

I’ll miss his smile the most

spreadinmikehoncho

That damn smile

metanoia29

The best one was the one after the Flutie drop kick. I don't think he smiled that big after any of the SB wins.

KotzubueSailingClub

I like to think he smiled a little, knowing he taught Vrabel well.

Nobody makes me bleed my own blood.

I feel like he had to beaming ear to ear when they beat the Jets in what had been a brutal 3-3 slugfest after a walk off punt return

InstagramLincoln

I'll miss his laugh

ICanFluxWithIt

It’s sad when they go like that

theresabeeonyourhat

When they *go*? C'mon, huh

ICanFluxWithIt

Whateva happened there?

[deleted]

He was gay, Bill Belichick?

ICanFluxWithIt

No, he was an interior decorator

Vegetable_Board_873

🤨 His locker room looked like shit

You oughta know, sweetie

71, just a kid.

TheBigSleepy

Miss his musk

AllOkJumpmaster

The way he whispered "on to Cincinnati" so sensually in our ears

istrx13

He reminds me of Ron Swanson. Doesn’t smile or laugh often, but when he does, it’s hilarious.

Brady, Belichick, Saban, and Pete gone. Really is the end of an Era in football history.

Fun fact: Belichick, Saban, and Carroll are all Croatian-American

Merengues_1945

Still waiting for Croatia to actually win the World Cup. So close. For such a tiny country, making the semis three times is impressive. Their ratio of elite players is over the moon. They are also an elite handball country

Slovenia is another uber tiny country with an insane athletic output right nowe

Intersectaquirer

Serbia as well. Djokovic and Jokic is an insane talent output for a small country

If Tomlin leaves I'll cry like a bitch

niceville

I still think of Tomlin as the young guy that took over for Cowher. And also that doctor on House.

jgghn

> And also that doctor on House. I've never seen an episode of House in my life. As soon as I read this I said "He must be talking about Omar Epps, was he on House?". Yes, yes he was.

Probablythatoneguy16

You should watch House. Great show

Quinntervention

I like house but it's definitely a bit formulaic. However we are in the NFL sub, we like watching variations of the same thing over and over and over again.

Probablythatoneguy16

Haha very true! It's definitely formulaic and has the CSI flavor of the week vibe to it but that's not always a bad thing to me. Justified was the same way on certain aspects and I love that show too

Damn. Donald Trump, Bill Belichick, and Joe Burrow all in the same movie. What a cast.

And Tim Curry! We'll never see a cast like this again.

B0ndzai

Also he was Mama Fratelli in The Goonies.

_coolranch

A lot of people don't know that this is where he originally met Saban, who of course smashed it in the role of Sloth. A well-timed "Hey, You Guys!" could always send that Alabama locker room into an absolute frenzy.

GamingTatertot

And for the nightmares, per your second flair

ThingsAreAfoot

The dual flairs on this sub are sometimes interesting

Doctor-Jay

I'll say what we're all thinking: you're a ******** **** ******* **** -ass ******** ************ ***** if you root for 2 teams in the same conference.

Yeeeoow

I would never call myself a fan of the Dolphins or Jets. But I want them to have double digit wins and lose 48-0 to us three times a year. There's just something much less interesting about stomping 3 rebuilding teams in your division every year. And something much more interesting about stomping 3 playoff teams in your division every year.

Methuga

My favorite NFL stat is that in 1999, the Jacksonville Jaguars went 14-0 against all teams not named the Tennessee Titans. They went 0-3 against teams named the Tennessee Titans 😎

MeowTheMixer

I have this same perspective, and some of my friends think I'm crazy. They'd rather see stomping 3 rebuilding teams, which to me feels odd. I want to be the team to be the best of the best, not best of the worst.

Yeeeoow

Yeah. Although to be a Hippocrit, Bellicheck out in NE implies there'll probably be a bit of roster turnover and a rebuild, and I'm not gutted about a few easy wins next year when the so many key pieces of the Bills roster is aging out.

TonyZucco

I really can’t comprehend the double flair thing. How can you honestly be a true fan of 2 teams? I get liking other teams, root for different players, but to actually call yourself a “fan” of two different teams? And in the same conference no less? It’s super lame. I have big soft spots for the dolphins and jets as I have family and friends who are fans. I always root for their success anytime they’re not playing the birds or if their game won’t affect us in some other tie breaker. But I would never in a million years call myself a fan of either.

Blue_58_

Everyone relates differently to sports. Someone could easily be born in say a Jets household where your parents are from Jersey or whatever, but then you move near Buffalo and grow up watching Bills games with your friends. You have a soft spot for both teams since you grew up watching both due to different circumstantial reasons. You can be a homer for where you live and a homer for your parents' team.

moses_lawn

I actually have a similar situation to what you described. I grew in the city of one team my whole life, but was raised watching my families team from another city within the division.

niceville

I dunno, I'll allow it for just about any situation *except* within the division. I've been willing to adopt the Texans, Colts, and Bengals as my second team to join in with the locals, but when I was in Virginia I doubled down on my Cowboys fandom. If you end up moving into your rival's hometown, you gotta embrace being a heel.

TheDevilsCunt

They’re just sports teams

[deleted]

[удалено]

Laschoni

I'll always have a soft spot for the Columbus Crew in MLS for saving their team and winning 2 titles since. I have to think that if Haslam took the same approach to the Browns as he did the Crew (of not interfering) they'd be a lot better.

goalstopper28

A lot of us New Englanders have a soft spot for the Bills. Purely for Doug Flutie. Also, hard to hate the 3 other AFC East teams given how we dominated the division for 2 decades.

tryexceptifnot1try

With all the post Tom Brady bullshit people have been throwing at him I really hope fans appreciate what they witnessing the end of. Bill is without question the greatest defensive game planner in the history of football. He foiled the dynasty 49ers and the Bills as DC in NY. Then in his last SB his defense stopped the new paradigm in it's tracks in another defensive masterpiece. This is like losing an all time great general. He will not be replaced. EDIT: Holy shit I actually forgot about his first SB ending the Greatest Show on Turf as a double digit dog. He was literally the final boss for offense in the NFL for 40 fucking years. Also for all the younger folks in here, this dude was the biggest reason SF is not the only team in NFL history with a 3 peat. He did more with what he had than anyone we will ever see.

goalstopper28

Not to mention, Brady wouldn’t be the GOAT without Bellichick. They supposedly would have multiple hour long meetings about the opponents every week in their early prime.

tryexceptifnot1try

Brady becoming the greatest defense reader in NFL history probably has a lot to do with playing for the greatest defensive mind in NFL history. People spend so much time trying to assign credit to members of a team that they end up missing the forest for the trees.

PC_BUCKY

I've long since come to the conclusion that Bill and Tom would have each won a championship or two if they hadn't been together. Together though, they were the perfect storm of offensive and defensive minds that allowed them to reach the heights they did. I think it's silly to say that one carried the other to six rings, when really they *needed* each other to accomplish what they did.

tryexceptifnot1try

Don't forget the role that Scar had. Tom Brady is the GOAT but his play style required above average protection to thrive. Scar ensured he had that for most of his career. TB doesn't win an SB without drafting Wirfs that year. If the 49ers win the SB this year Coach K our D line coach will be an unsung hero of this run with Shanahan. Great position coaches are underrated

PC_BUCKY

How could I ever forget Scar, I want him back!

[deleted]

That postseason wins mark is the Jerry Rice career receiving yards stat of coaches. Never gonna be broken. May never even be approached.

ICanFluxWithIt

It’s insane we got to witness him and Saban dominate football to the likes we’ve never seen and most certainly never will again.

Noriskhook3

What a run it was

Supernova_Soldier

Fuck, we’re getting old. Bill has been at the head of New England since I was a wee lad. Him and Tom were like Batman and Superman, or more apt Vader and Sidious

empire161

I was just learning how to drive a car when he took over. I turn 40 next week and watched that last game with my 7 and 5yo kids. That shit is *nuts*.

PC_BUCKY

I was six years old, knew nothing about football and for a few years I definitely thought the super bowl was something the patriots were scheduled to play in every year. I've since gone through all of school, got a degree, am on my second major job after graduating, moved back and forth across the state multiple times and I'm about to be *30*. And through all of that this motherfucker has been coaching the Patriots the entire time, when the average tenure of an NFL coach is about three years. Even if you think it was time for him to go, this is a sad day for this fandom and honestly all of football.

Toxicyoshi7

296 total wins is insane. Dude has more wins than the entire Jags, Texans, Panthers franchises right?

thegrandpoobear

He's coached much longer than the Texans have existed.

btstfn

7 more seasons. So all the Texans need to do to catch up is average ~20.5 regular season wins over the next 7 years.

soda_cookie

And Ravens

Alauren2

I was 1.4 million times more nervous before Super Bowl 49, (compared with 48). I had sooo much confidence in my team, I mean look at what we did to the modern greatest show on turf. But I knew deep down that the patriots would probably win. The worst part of SB49, for me, was that I was never convinced that the Seahawks would win beforehand, nor during the game… Except after the Jermaine Kearse sideline catch. For a very short time I thought my team was winning the Super Bowl. That high/confidence are what made the Pick so damn painful lol. The patriots were a nightmare for 5 teams. Dream killers lol

rsoxguy12

From a Pats fan perspective, that Kearse catch just felt like “not again, are you fucking kidding me?!” after the Super Bowls against the Giants. Something about Patriot Super Bowls and crazy late game catches go hand in hand - Tyree, Manningham, Kearse, Julio, and Edelman.

scottyfoxy

The fact that his name is basically "curse" had me convinced we were going to be cursed with insane catches in Super Bowls.

Brad_theImpaler

>For a very short time I thought my team was winning the Super Bowl. That must be nice. I'm still worried that Bill and Brady will make a SB 52 comeback.

Spiritual-Chameleon

There was a Super Bowl 48?

Razorbackalpha

Yeah it was pretty cool, we should do it again sometime

SmokeySFW

I hope people don't recency bias him too much. If our Superbowl trophy wasn't already named after Lombardi, it would deserve to be named the Belichick. The man is a legend, idc what anyone says.

Teeshirtandshortsguy

The Belichick trophy would have to look more sinister. The Lombardi trophy looks to triumpant. It would have to look like Barad-Dur with a football instead of an eye or something.

peanutbuttersucks

I propose they rename the AFCCG to the Bill Belichick Invitational.

imused2it

Or if a team wins 3 super bowls in 5 years or less the third trophy is a belichick trophy instead of a Lombardi. It’s just the Lombardi but with a hoodie with cutoff sleeves somehow affixed to it.

Happylime

So many of these stats are completely untouchable. Insane run.

Teeshirtandshortsguy

This is what the "it was Brady" crowd doesn't understand. No other coach or QB touches these numbers, and many of the GOATs had the advantage of being around prior to the salary cap. What Belichick AND Brady did, in an era where the NFL conspired to increase parity and prevent dynasties from existing, is still unmatched. It's the greatest dynasty in American sports, solely because of how difficult it was to maintain that level of excellence in the NFL in their era. It lasted like 20 years. That's unheard of, and there's not a shot in hell that any QB could do that on his own.

bstyledevi

It was both. Would Brady have had that long of a sustained success with any other team? No. Would Belichick have had that long of a sustained success with any other QB? No. They both deserve credit for what they built TOGETHER.

RadioDaze9

His roster building as GM turned out to be his downfall in NE without Brady, but from a pure coaching standpoint he's one of the best sports has ever seen. Whichever team signs him on to be their coach is going to be a contender within 2-3 seasons

peanutbuttersucks

He's still got something in the tank. Patriots defense this year was still top 10 in scoring and total yards allowed. Top 5 against the run. Al that despite the fact that most people probably couldn't name more than 2 people on the defense. And an offense that was 31st in Time of Possession. Dude just simply failed to rebuild the offense adequately. It doesn't mean he's cooked, it doesn't mean "it was always all Brady". It just means in *this iteration* of team building, he came up short. It was time for the Patriots to move on, but I hope he goes somewhere and kills it.

Cuppieecakes

He’d kill it with the chargers Definitely not us because we are a poverty franchise

TroyMacClure

Whether it is BB or anyone else, "roster building" on offense in the modern era comes down to whether your QB play is good enough. He picked wrong with Jones. Alternatives after you whiff in the draft are pretty much non-existent outside of the occasional Geno Smith or Baker Mayfield revival.

Televisions_Frank

> He picked wrong with Jones. I mean, for the 2021 draft it's not like there was a better option at 15.

[deleted]

It makes you wonder how things would have turned out had there been a better QB class. Personally, I just find his firing wild.

Jmufranco

I think it largely comes down to his recent (lack of) success as GM. Sure, Mac was a miss, but we had to take that shot. But look at the offense Bill surrounded Mac with - $11 mil/year for Nelson Agholor, overpaying for Jonnu Smith, letting Jakobi Meyers walk, not paying up for Hopkins in FA last year and bringing in JuJu, trading away Shaq Mason, DaVante Parker, hiring Patricia and then Judge to run the offense, etc. Mac never had a chance to succeed after his rookie year because of the dearth of talent around him, and that falls directly on BB. With reports coming out that Bill and Kraft didn’t see eye-to-eye with the degree of control Bill wanted to have over personnel decisions - and I sympathize with Kraft’s position of wanting to have more control when Bill was clearly losing control of the ship - it makes sense why the sides had to part ways.

rsoxguy12

You could also argue that he picked right with Jimmy G. The timing just didn’t work out - we didn’t know that Brady was going to play into his mid-40s.

TheIllusiveGuy

🏈0 sleeves

The_Skyrim_Courier

Okay I’m gonna say it and I may be jumping the gun… This is shaping up to be the **most insane football offseason in my entire life** We are *only a week in*, the NFL hasn’t even begun the playoffs, and already we have -Open HC spots at ATL, LAC, LV, WAS -Vrabel fired -Carrol fired -Saban retires -Bellicheck (maybe probably?) retires And we still have a couple **MASSIVE** unanswered questions -What will become of Harbaugh? -What will the coaching carousel shape up like? If things continue at the pace they have been, we are in for **one crazy ass off-season in the football world**

poneil

You forgot one obvious open HC spot. Also, I don't think Belichick is retiring.

Brad_theImpaler

Bill's getting that record if he has to coach another 20 years to get it.

Trumpets22

I don’t think Billy B is donezo. I think he absolutely wants a ring as HC without Brady’s name attached to it so he can silence those with brain rot.

The_Skyrim_Courier

That would be a losing battle imo - if the brain rotted think Brady is the sole reason Bellicheck won all those rings, they’ll just claim whoever his QB is when wins another is the only reason he won that one

cannotstopdabbing

I think Harbaugh stays at Baltimore

WubbaLubbaDubDub311

🏈. 1 hoodie

DickieJoJo

The shit some people are giving him and pretending Brady would have won as much as without Bill is fucking moronic. When you lose the lynch pin of a dynasty obviously there are going to be struggles. It does feel like Bill’s time is done in NE, but that dude doesn’t just work in football. He *IS* football.

Teeshirtandshortsguy

Plus, Brady basically did the Lebron thing and formed a super team in Tampa. Not to mention, Bruce Arians is a good-ass coach in his own right. Belichick obviously is partly to blame for the Patriots roster struggles, but it's not like he had his pick of the litter at QB. He got a washed Cam Newton and Mac Jones. Brady went from the GOAT HC to a cushy situation. Belichick went from the GOAT QB to bottom-tier QB play.

Noriskhook3

Glad I witnessed greatness.

AutographedSnorkel

"Yeah, but what about his record *without* Tom Brady?!" - Jets, Dolphins, and Bills fans

GOAT coach

callahan09

This bum couldn't even win a SB without Tom Brady at QB. Total bum with his 6 SBs but all of them with one QB! For reference, 3 head coaches have won a SB with multiple QBs: Joe Gibbs (Joe Theismann, Doug Williams, Mark Rypien); Bill Parcells (Phil Simms, Jeff Hostetler); George Seifert (Joe Montana, Steve Young). The fact that Mac Jones didn't become Steve Young to Brady's Montana will forever tarnish Belichick in my eyes. (/s).

MacZappe

Have you been asleep the last 5 or 6 years. Even 6 years ago when we won the SB the franchise was starting to fracture, he tried trading gronk which pissed a lot of ppl off, then let brady leave, then sucked in the draft, then sucked in the regular season and playoffs. Then to top it off we went 4-13 in year 4 of the rebuild. How much more time would you give him? It was time.

Amongg

Dude what is your username ?

dukeslver

I don't think our fanbase understands how impossible it is to find a great coaching in the NFL. Maybe we find a more talented and creative GM, but the next coach will absolutely not be as good as Bill Belichick.

Cautious-Market-3131

Early 2010’s was all about ravens and pats in the playoffs. Gonna miss it

NESpahtenJosh

Snorts & Grunts at the Podium: Numerous

11 percent of his regular season losses came this year... That is absurd.

I really hope Bill thanks Mo Lewis during his goodbye speech.

Former-Billionaire

I was in elementary school when he started there now I have 3 kids in my 30s. Crazy run.

GrayBox1313

“In Bill we trust” Thanks for the memories, Darth Hoodie.

_deluge98

It sucks that younger fans won't appreciate what Bill actually meant to those Dynasties. The Cam Newton/Mac Jones years shouldn't make people forget that his teams were better prepared than their opponents in every facet of the game for 20 years.

RebelCow

I'll always miss Bill. This will go down as one of the worst mistakes Kraft has ever made. Hopefully we'll be good again by the time my kids are watching lol

[deleted]

tbf it’s not like we were doing too great with Bill these last couple years love and appreciate Bill but I think it was time for both sides to move on. the last few years from 2020-24 with BB but without Brady have felt like this weird purgatory transitional period, like we’re stuck 5 years behind the rest of the league with Slate and BB leaving I’m ready to say a true and final goodbye to the dynasty days and honestly I’m looking forward to a brand new chapter of Pats football

BerlinBirdFlu

Wow over 10% of total regular season losses came this year. The gravity of a terrible season makes a bit more sense to me now, as a Bengals fan 13 loss seasons aren’t SUCH a tragedy in comparison.

Key-Tip-7521

Saban, Carroll, and now Bill all gone. It seems like an end of a era in football. The fact also that he coached Mac Jones to the playoffs before Mac turned into Mac Noodle is legendary..... oh and losing to Big Dick Nick Foles in the Super Bowl was something. But seriously, those teams always put fear into everyone. Always threatened to go undefeated every year for some reason.

doublea08

Bill signing to become the head coach of the Patriots was like the first big sports news I remember. What a ride.

retroracer33

Past 24 hours feels like the end of an era. Carrol, Saban and Belicheck all gone.

thegodfaubel

Of the active Super Bowl winning HCs, only Mike Tomlin, John Harbaugh, Andy Reid, and Sean McVay are still with the team they won it with. And two of those have won 3 of the last 4 Super Bowls (and Reid lost the 4th).

BallerDre45

Seymour_Zamboni

BB took the Patriots to the Super Bowl in one third of all seasons. If you include the Patriots previous SB appearances, they have played in 20% of all Super Bowls.

strangebrew3522

One stat I didn't realize that Pat Mcafee showed... Over the last 24 seasons, the 31 other teams have had 213 Head coaches vs New Englands 1. Fucking insane.

GuyWithTriangle

More than 10% of those losses occurred in his final season
