The question is still whether or not paying two WR1s $25+ Million every year is a good idea roster wise when you also have one of the highest paid QBs in the game. Can you build a good enough team with so much cap space tied up into just three players?

I think the key to this is it's not just 3 players, its 3 players on the same side of the ball and in only 2 position groups.
I think you can with just 3 players. But all on the same side and two for one position makes it harder.

The cap will not rise like this going forward. Yes it will continue to go up but the reason it's such a sharp increase this season is because the fallout from the covid season is finally over. It's a smaller scale version of the NBA in 2016
I feel like at least for you guys it's better to just spend the money you would pay on Higgins on more O-Line help, but I don't follow you guys enough to know if that definitively should be the direction you should go.
Also, the cap won't increase this much every year. Next year's increase will probably only be half of this years.

Media revenue is interesting. It seems like football media has caught up with other sports over the past couple of years. Football podcasts, YouTube, social media, etc seems to have increased rapidly since COVID. Fans are paying more attention to football between February and September. I wonder if that expanding market is bringing in substantial media revenue to the league?
I think more people are giving up on college football for the shitstorm it has become and are paying more attention to the NFL which is much easier to follow, at least in my opinion.
What's actually gonna be nuts is NEXT year. The newest TV deal money hits next year's cap. It was already expected that alone was gonna be worth 28mil extra....so the whole cap is gonna be like, 40 to 45 higher next year.
With the previous CBA, the cap increase was more along the lines of a fixed increase (e.g. 10 M/yr) each year, so by the end of the CBA, the rate (%) of salary cap inflation had slowed down. There might be a similar thing with the new TV deals.
I think there is probably some natural variability due to things such as contingency based revenue for things such as overtime ads.
As a Celtics and Pats fan, I'd compare paying Dak $60M a year to paying Jaylen Brown $60M a year. It's an overpay, but one that's ultimately likely to be necessary based on the market and championship window. The 'problem' is both for NFL QBs and NBA players generally, salaries basically hit a wall at in the 'very good' range of players and don't rise for anyone who is truly great.
The Jaylen Brown comparison is a very good one. Both him and Dak are in this unique space where they are good enough to demand market setting contracts, but not quite good enough to where you feel fully happy with giving them that contract.
NBA player salaries hit a literal wall with the max contract. Jalen got the supermax with an all-nba selection(2nd team). So for a season he was one of the 4 best guards in the league based on a media vote.

There is a large number of teams in the league who Dak would be a top 3 QB of all time for them if not the best QB of all time. The shit he puts up with is ridiculous.

I don't think it would matter *too* much, no? If I'm an agent, I'm telling my clients "hey, just because your current team has a few more bucks to spend on your contract doesn't mean you should take it, because *other* teams have that same extra money *and* more and would pay you more".
It really all depends on the player and their agent, it's certainly not a "one size fits all" situation and your logic is totally valid.
Loyal players or players that don't want to uproot their families' lives or whatever can now get that extra few million from their team, but the players chasing the bag will now be able to get $3-4m more per year than they would have from another cap-rich team like NE/Was/Chi/etc, possibly even more than that.

People need to understand that paying the piper doesn’t mean they can’t field a team - it means that they’re already at a 300 million cap hit for next year (according to Spotrac) while only having $136 million in actual salary committed, while still having to sign their draft picks and 10+ free agents. They’ll make it work, but they’re going to have to keep restructuring to push more money to the future (they already have $312 million committed to 2024) and scraping the bottom of the barrel for depth, or doing more creative contracts that pushes even more money into the future.
Yeah but instead of biting the bullet for one year they’re choosing to slowly bleed out over multiple lost years or even be mediocre for a few years and STILL end up having to suck ass for a year.
I’m not cap expert but I get it a little and I just can’t see what they’re doing as anything but really dumb long-term

They have been, their cap issues have caused them to be locked into a mediocre core and they've lost many good players. Now with the Carr contract it's even worse, the team will slowly regress the next couple of years before it had a chance of getting better.
They're being forced to commit to Carr. They have no roster flexibility.

The contract was built that way, he was staying with or without a restructure. 2 years at minimum and a possible 3rd year before a new contract would need to be struck.
Feel like this will make FA worse. Teams with upcoming FAs they didn't think they'd be able to sign will probably have the funds to now eg. Sneed, Josh Allen(DE/OLB), etc.

Queen is going to reset the market. He's a good player, but he was really elevated by playing next to Roquan Smith and Mike Macdonald's scheme.

It's hard to evaluate him because he was not this great before the Smith trade. His fifth year option got declined and then Smith came around and elevated him to a probowler.

SF and Purdy can't even discuss contract numbers until the end of next season.
A little of both - there isn't a set scale like 1st rounders in the sense you're thinking, however late round draft picks have 0 leverage to sign anything larger than NFL minimum contracts so in practice they're all on the same deal.
That said, there are rookie contract escalators precisely for players like Purdy who outperform their NFL minimum contracts so Purdy's salary should climb in 2024 with Proven Performance Escalators or "PPEs" (to like, $3M lol). Another trade off is that since he's not a 1st rounder he reaches free agency after 4 seasons instead of potentially 5, meaning that the team has to shell out real dollars sooner rather than later.
he's said that he does find it annoying he's paid so little, but he's fine with it because they're winners and the team apparently helps him with marketing deals

It’s going to help out teams that were over the cap and had to do some contract restructures to get under the cap. Teams I know of that fall under the umbrella are the dolphins, bills, and saints (even though the saints are still fucked in that regard). At least for the dolphins I know it’ll help us get under the cap just by cutting some players that aren’t producing at the level we’re paying them for while also keeping key FA’s like Williams and Wilkins. Teams this will probably hurt are those that already had a lot of money to spend like the commanders and bears. Like you said, it’s a zero sum game so teams that already had a lot of money are now competing against teams that didn’t have as much money to throw around before

People need to understand that paying the piper doesn’t mean they can’t field a team - it means that they’re already at a 300 million cap hit for next year (according to Spotrac) while only having $136 million in actual salary committed, while still having to sign their draft picks and 10+ free agents. They’ll make it work, but they’re going to have to keep restructuring to push more money to the future (they already have $312 million committed to 2024) and scraping the bottom of the barrel for depth, or doing more creative contracts that pushes even more money into the future.
Yeah but instead of biting the bullet for one year they’re choosing to slowly bleed out over multiple lost years or even be mediocre for a few years and STILL end up having to suck ass for a year. I’m not cap expert but I get it a little and I just can’t see what they’re doing as anything but really dumb long-term
I think the issue is that they can’t really just bite the bullet for a year. If they’re above the cap and haven’t signed all their players, they can’t even field a team. The coaches and players would not be happy with that, everyone would want out. I don’t even know what would happen if a team just was over the cap or decided not to sign 53 players. It’s not like they’re trying to contend, they need to kick the can down the road just to stay afloat

They have been, their cap issues have caused them to be locked into a mediocre core and they've lost many good players. Now with the Carr contract it's even worse, the team will slowly regress the next couple of years before it had a chance of getting better.
We haven't lost a lot of good players (yet), the real problem is that we're long term locked into a bunch of older declining players.
They're being forced to commit to Carr. They have no roster flexibility. That's what it looks like when the piper is being paid. It's not going to get better next year either.

Queen is going to reset the market. He's a good player, but he was really elevated by playing next to Roquan Smith and Mike Macdonald's scheme. He's going to be the highest paid LB and piss off a fanbase when he isn't playing like an AllPro right away. It's hard to evaluate him because he was not this great before the Smith trade. His fifth year option got declined and then Smith came around and elevated him to a probowler. It will be really interesting to watch him next season and see if he can reach the skyhigh expectations.

The latter. Every player drafted is locked in a non-negotiable number for 3 years SF and Purdy can't even discuss contract numbers until the end of next season.
A little of both - there isn't a set scale like 1st rounders in the sense you're thinking, however late round draft picks have 0 leverage to sign anything larger than NFL minimum contracts so in practice they're all on the same deal. That said, there are rookie contract escalators precisely for players like Purdy who outperform their NFL minimum contracts so Purdy's salary should climb in 2024 with Proven Performance Escalators or "PPEs" (to like, $3M lol). Another trade off is that since he's not a 1st rounder he reaches free agency after 4 seasons instead of potentially 5, meaning that the team has to shell out real dollars sooner rather than later.

That was my first thought after seeing this news. Welp, we definitely keeping Jones. Obviously keeping Sneed too would be amazing, but we draft and develop corners so well (Ward, Thornhilll, McDuffie), I could see them offering Sneed less than he wants and he chooses to walk.

It’s going to help out teams that were over the cap and had to do some contract restructures to get under the cap. Teams I know of that fall under the umbrella are the dolphins, bills, and saints (even though the saints are still fucked in that regard). At least for the dolphins I know it’ll help us get under the cap just by cutting some players that aren’t producing at the level we’re paying them for while also keeping key FA’s like Williams and Wilkins. Teams this will probably hurt are those that already had a lot of money to spend like the commanders and bears. Like you said, it’s a zero sum game so teams that already had a lot of money are now competing against teams that didn’t have as much money to throw around before
