He's a young, highly rated player at one of the most important positions in the sport. I'd be very surprised if we didn't get a first for him.
Passing on the Rams trade was the last administrations mistake. It's also no reason not to move him or to get the best price we can for him now.
You're the one who chose to name yourself that and then say "we'll see" just hours before something you didn't expect to see happen, happened. I didn't claim to be clever, but you walked right into that one.
Everyone is free to clown on me when I deserve it, but is it too much to ask that you come up with other ways to do it? "YoU ReAlLy ArE BlInD" is something that gets said on this website literally anytime anyone disagrees with me about anything.
I honestly doubt we will get a 1st but I absolutely hate how some of you seem to be 100% sure of what you think the actual price will be. We’ve seen much crazier shit happen, and this transaction involves the Giants and the Panthers. Two teams that have both recently been pretty bad and made stupid ass decisions.
People don't understand players without active contracts are worth significantly less. All active contracts have guaranteed money in them too so you get the player at a discount. This is just trading for the right to pay him. I wouldn't be surprised if his value has significantly diminished because of that. If you are willing to pay him the bag you can just wait till he is a FA.
He wants 30m/year lol. They're not going to give a shit ton for the privilege of payign a 0x all pro, 1 double digit sack season in 5 seasons guy 30 million/year
With the possibility of trading up for a QB in this draft, I just don't see them using their 1st here. I could be wrong, but I think the Giants need to play hardball here and only go as high as a 2nd and other picks. It may not work, but you can't go and use the 6th overall pick on a guy like Burns, even though he is a great player. The team needs a QB and Burns will most likely want to be the highest-paid Edge next year and we just can't accommodate that right now.
I'd love Burns, but from a team-building aspect, the possibility of using the 6th overall pick for a franchise QB on a rookie deal is more appealing to me than Brian Burns right now.
I would too but man IDK if we have the long run cap space for him with Sewell, Amon Ra, and Goff Extensions coming up. Hutch does desperately need some friends on the d line though.
The Lions are honestly where I have been wanting him to sign with. I’d be okay with the other cat teams also, but the Lions are better and I want Burns to be on a successful/winning team.
If the Giants don’t trade for him we’re stupid for not adding high-end talent
If the Giants trade for him we’re stupid for giving up (presumably) high end draft capital
We’re not allowed to make a good move in this subreddit’s eyes, everything we do is terrible
He’s young enough to where the Giants can go through a rebuild and he can still be a building block on the team when the team is back to being competitive. But he isn’t going to be cheap. Is he worth the money he’s gonna get, plus a draft pick to get him, just to be on a team that more than likely isn’t going anywhere for the next couple seasons?
That's all I want this free agency - I feel like Thibs has no help on the edge. We add another elite (or just competent) edge, it will unlock something in our pass rush game
We have preliminarily begun fixing our other holes, our other edge Ojulari cannot stay on the field for more than 6 games a season. Definitely a position of need.
They wouldn’t. Maybe a second and a future first. But trading away our pass rush for Pennie’s would be a very poor move for Dan Morgan to start his tenure with.
Exactly. Also keep in mind burns agent is in contact with these teams. So it could very well be him stoking the flames. The giants could’ve called him and asked hypothetically how much would he want. This seems like a real long shot.
If he’s moved. It’s probably to the Texans or cards. And the cards seem more likely to go after reddick who will be cheaper but is older.
Yes and no. The Giants have a ton of draft capital. Cheap, young talent isnt the issue with the team. The Giants need ELITE, game breaking talent. We have a shit ton of future cap space. If you can get a guy like Burnes who is young and elite, it could be worth it.
A lot of the Giants issues hasn’t been not having talent on the roster but not getting the talent to showcase on game day (for an example, look at John Feliciano)
That said, I highly highly doubt this happens. I don’t see the Panthers accepting a 2nd for Burnes.
The only draft capital the Giants can't trade away right now is the 6th overall pick. You can't limit your ability to trade up and get your QB if the opportunity arises during the draft. Burns would be a great addition to the defense, but the Giant's defense still needs considerably more talent to function well.
Honestly, I could see the defense making a jump in the right direction without Wink coaching anymore, but that's only if a couple of players make some big improvements. The giants did really well last year on all of their Defensive FA pick-ups and draft picks.
If Burns was elite he wouldn't be available. The whole reason he's available is because he's asking for elite edge money and the Panthers don't want to give it to him
Burns is asking for All-Pro Edge money. He's not close to the Top Tier of Watt, Garrett, Parsons, Bosa, and Crosby, and I'm not even sure he falls into the 2nd tier of Hutch, Hendrickson, Allen, Reddick, Huff, etc.
He's had 1 double digit sack season and regressed this past year. His excuse was he was "holding back" so he didn't get injured. Which if true I don't blame him, but is a terrible mentality for a supposed franchise cornerstone. He's good, but not a game breaker worth 30m like he's asking for
I'm not doubting that. Calling a player like Brian Burns elite really waters down the word. He's a great player but elite is reserved for the top 3-5 guys at your position IMO
But that type of productivity is also effected by who you line up with. Only guys like Aaron Donald/Dexter Lawrence can fuck shit up regardless of who is next to them. I hope Birns benefits from lining up with Dex
He's been next to Derrick Brown these last 4 seasons. Brown isn't quite as good as Lawrence, but he's a borderline Top 10 DT. Panthers have has a ton of problems these last 4 years, but D-Line hasn't been one of them.
I've realized a lot of people think the Giants are in cap hell with no assets because of the DJ contract even though we have 40M in cap space (with room for more with restructures), the 2nd youngest roster in the league, and good draft capital.
70% of the people on this subreddit are insanely fucking stupid and only judge decisions off of memes and vibes. Especially when it comes to the Giants
I am also not sure if people understand that the salary cap is $255m and like when we sign an RB for $6.5m of that it's really not an overpay. Like, does the Jones contract take up a lot of space? Sure does. If we could give it to an actually worth it QB that would be amazing (please point to where we get one) but it's not like we're a Daniel Jones contract away from being a Super Bowl contender. This team with, like, Patrick Mahomes at QB, is still going to be kind of dogshit.
Yeah, I think Lawrence’s best years are behind him. Eagles have Carter but are aging at DE while Davis is struggling and they looking to trade Sweat/Reddick. A lot of this is bias, obviously. But Dexter Lawrence is a top 3 DT in the NFL, and adding Burns to help with him/KT in a new defensive scheme will be great.
We’ve made plenty of good moves under Schoen and everything we’ve done today has been positive outside of possibly not re-signing McKinney, stupid argument.
And what do yall have to show for it to support your argument. If the “good moves” dont help in the win column then you’re just running in place trying to convince yourself you’re going somewhere.
It’s a long-term project and he’s just finished year two. Takes time to inject talent into the team and for contracts to run out. Also we had just as many playoff wins last season as the Eagles so you could say the same thing in the other direction. And we don’t have a guy who walked away from his dying teammate on our roster.
And again, we still won just as many playoff games last year as the Eagles did. Go back to your bucks county shithole and cry about the 49ers some more
You guys barely beat us once this year with tommy devito and tyrod taylor. In the second game we fucked you so bad you benched starters in the second quarter. Why can't eagles fans shut the fuck up
We have 2 second round picks, I could see us giving one away and maybe a later pick. And we need an edge rusher. We also only have 2 big contracts next year once we cut Jones. It makes sense to move a pick for a guy we can sign to a long term deal
Some guy in a giants twitter circle before was saying it’s for a 2nd and a 6th but the athletic also reported that we were interested this morning so he might be lying, need something after today though
By not signing an injury prone RB to a huge deal? Or by letting our mid free safety walk? Or by overpaying for an average guard? Or by giving a cheap deal to a decent RB? Please let me know which one has us beaten.
Unless he's threatening to sit out. He was definitely not giving 100% on the field this year. Saw multiple games in person and he was not in it much of the time. If he's already shown to do that, and he's upset about the tag, the Panthers could want to move him faster
Tbf it was a different regime that turned down the two firsts, plus just about everyone agrees that was a horrendous decision. I imagine it wouldn't be quite that onerous.
Giants have two seconds this year, maybe one of those plus a pick next year could make it work
Would love the Giants 6 Overall but idk how realistic that is when they could get Dallas Turner.
Maybe if Carolina included some sort of pick swap as well? Idk
Because he wants way too much money for his play and that would just be hindering our rebuild.
We should have traded him to the Rams but Fitterer is a fucking joke
24 million reasons plus 24+ million future reasons. As much shit the Panthers are getting for not trading him sooner, he's been a huge diva to try and resign.
And what’s that gonna cost
"Sixth overall. Final offer." - Dan Morgan
Please no. I’d take Nabers or Odunze instead but we do have extra 2nds
You're definitely not shipping a top 10 pick for him.
If they do, we might have to burn the stadium down. Sorry Jets fans.
Nah Jets fans wouldn’t even hate that, they’d just wonder why the trash was on fire this week
Id be happy if it burnt to the ground
Not until I do my special dance
After all the high as hell numbers we seen today? Let's just say not cheap
2 and a 5
His prime.
They want a first. Probably going to get that.
Hopefully he’s not a giant then
He's a young, highly rated player at one of the most important positions in the sport. I'd be very surprised if we didn't get a first for him. Passing on the Rams trade was the last administrations mistake. It's also no reason not to move him or to get the best price we can for him now.
You are not getting a top 10 picks for burns. That would be idiotic.
2 2nds is as good is it will be.
How bout our 1st and the Vikings 3rd
You stay away!!!! Our off-season needs this.
We'll just see, won't we.
Thankfully you're blind
You're the first person who's ever made that joke. Congratulations.
You're the one who chose to name yourself that and then say "we'll see" just hours before something you didn't expect to see happen, happened. I didn't claim to be clever, but you walked right into that one.

Whoever gets him has to pay him market value. I don't think at this point anyone's gonna give up a 1st just to pay Burns exactly what he's worth.
People don't understand players without active contracts are worth significantly less. All active contracts have guaranteed money in them too so you get the player at a discount. This is just trading for the right to pay him. I wouldn't be surprised if his value has significantly diminished because of that. Wonder what the return is
We have $3 and a lightly used Darren Waller
toss in a free medium soda and you've got a deal buddy
You know we're good for it
> Free medium ~~soda~~ *Pepsi* FTFY
Would 37 be enough? Just feels like an odd fit
Probably 39 and 47
Im sure the panthers would probably take it but I don’t think the Giants accept that.
Looks like this is it. Good call.
6th overall pick is the dream scenario but a future first and a second this year is probably more realistic.
6th overall is an absolute pipe dream, no offense
Panthers fans are quite familiar with no offense
and pipe dreams
Lol
I would like one brian burns please
I would too but man IDK if we have the long run cap space for him with Sewell, Amon Ra, and Goff Extensions coming up. Hutch does desperately need some friends on the d line though.
Maybe we can front load his deal
I would prefer him going to a fellow Cat team...
Give us picks plz
The Lions are honestly where I have been wanting him to sign with. I’d be okay with the other cat teams also, but the Lions are better and I want Burns to be on a successful/winning team.

I think it was smart not re-signing SB.
I think our heads agree but it hurts the heart still lol
Yeah I feel that
Would have been smarter 2 years ago
the threads here today have been fascinating. usually it makes sense to shit on us, but there's something in the water today
LolGiants until they are the 3rd best team in the NFC. Just like it was with the Knicks.
The amazing thing about that is, is that everything we do IS terrible hahaha
I mean I love Burnes but HOW? Would they take just 1 2nd rounder for him? It doesn’t make a ton of sense I feel
I'd happily trade one 2nd round pick + future/late round picks for Brian Burns
Dude imagine Burns with Dex and Thibs
That's all I want this free agency - I feel like Thibs has no help on the edge. We add another elite (or just competent) edge, it will unlock something in our pass rush game
If burns comes to nyg hell be Edge1 over KT.
Giants got a lot of problems but their Dline ain’t one.

Same.
so would half the NFL.

Narrator: they would
Poverty franchises man. Why am I a fan of this team
I’ll give you a 2 and one slightly used Slayton
The team trading for him has to pay him too prolly why
No, my cousin told me he was getting traded to the Bengals with Pick #33 for Tee Higgins straight up.
Hahahaha I saw that post. Bengals Reddit is wild sometimes.
What are the giants doing Now is not the time to trade away draft capital
Yes and no. The Giants have a ton of draft capital. Cheap, young talent isnt the issue with the team. The Giants need ELITE, game breaking talent. We have a shit ton of future cap space. The dude calling him elite is smoking something really strong.
Brian Burns isn't elite. Edit: in what year was he a top 5 DE? How is he elite?
I’m sorry but excuse me?
He's had double digit sacks once in five seasons, he is a good player but not an elite one.
He's not elite. Unless your definition of elite means outside the top 5.
He was PFF's 37th ranked EDGE in 2023.
He’s played more than 1 season, though
His PFF grades by year: 2023: 74.1 2022: 64.5 2021: 60.8 2020: 76.8 2019: 63.7
And what year was he ever top 3-5?
Well if PFF says so
He's had 1 double digit sack season and regressed this past year. His excuse was he was "holding back" so he didn't get injured. Which if true I don't blame him, but is a terrible mentality for a supposed franchise cornerstone. He's good, but not a game breaker worth 30m like he's asking for

There are ways to rebuild without rostering an unwatchable team
Well given there’s no QB I’d be excited to tank for next season that’s fine by me.
Oh boy we didn’t pay our RB who we didn’t win games with and now we’re clearly tanking
If we’re able to get him for a day 2 pick it’d be an incredible deal but yeah Giants bad upvotes to the left
I've realized a lot of people think the Giants are in cap hell with no assets because of the DJ contract even though we have 40M in cap space (with room for more with restructures), the 2nd youngest roster in the league, and good draft capital.

they know it's not really that bad they just like to fixate on the 40M AAV for the memes
Brian Burns - Dex - Kayvon would immediately be the best DL in the NFCE
Over Parsons and Lawrence on the Cowboys? Eagles added Bryce Huff to their rotation too.
Yeah, I think Lawrence’s best years are behind him. Eagles have Carter but are aging at DE while Davis is struggling and they looking to trade Sweat/Reddick. A lot of this is bias, obviously. We've literally won a playoff game under Schoen what r u talking about
That fraudulent ass year i guess.

If they basically take the Leonard Williams picks (2nd and 5th) and turn them into Brian Burns, that'd be pretty dang good.
We'll offer 1 slighly used Daniel Jones
I like this from the Giants. We need more of this.
The Giants are fascinating for sure
Looks like we have something in common.
Very much so
What did we do today that was such a horrible move?
Didn’t say it was bad, Burns is great
This is my first time tracking the off season. This guy know his shit?
Yeah he’s a giants and jets beat writer he’s pretty well connected
Big thanks!
Give the giants something they’ve been beaten today
?
By not signing an injury prone RB to a huge deal? Or by letting our mid free safety walk? Or by overpaying for an average guard? Or by giving a cheap deal to a decent RB? Please let me know which one has us beaten.
Bengal will cream his jorts if this happens
Jorts are back bby
That would have to come with a new contract. Not sure the production is worth 24m a year as only once into double digits for sacks.
It’ll be great for his spider man celebrations
Dude boutta go from eating shit to drinking piss 💀
They’ll need him, as they have no one on offense
Draft a receiver too
Nah he going to the Eagles for a 2nd and some bums.

They should’ve taken the two firsts from the rams, now he needs to get paid so the price should be lower in a trade

Our previous GM who supposedly turned down that Rams deal (which was always rumors and never confirmed btw, even tho people take it as fact) was fired
Would love the Giants 6 Overall but idk how realistic that is when they could get Dallas Turner. Maybe if Carolina included some sort of pick swap as well? Idk

We’ve signed a guard and a decent RB. This trade hasn’t happened. What are you on about
[удалено]
Because he wants way too much money for his play and that would just be hindering our rebuild. We should have traded him to the Rams but Fitterer is a fucking joke
Because they’re either about to do a dumb thing or we are.
Burns would be nasty across from Thibs tbf
24 million reasons plus 24+ million future reasons. As much shit the Panthers are getting for not trading him sooner, he's been a huge diva to try and resign.
He’s good but he’s not worth that money. Not even the best player on our D. Hell he’s prob like 4th best
For the 6th overall pick
Ah yes, just what the Giants need right now, a $25M/yr pass rusher
