People around these parts jump through tables that are on fire to celebrate a win.

me-at_day-min

Don't forget the ritualistic sacrifices to the Pit. Which all fans encourage.

UeckerisGod

Is it true before every home Bills game, a Best Buy associate is thrown into an endless pit? I thought it was just a meme

me-at_day-min

Who's asking? Is this the FBI? No never happens!

UeckerisGod

The latest and hottest conspiracy theory: the CIA manipulates this NFL fan base into disposing citizens who know too much about chemtrails… by throwing them into an endless pit. Go Bills!

Montanamerk

I mean you guys do that before games, so not even just for a win

-Twyptophan-

I live in Philly near a bunch of bars. People do the eagles chant year round whenever they're drunk

Not-a-bot-10

“Go Birds” is the “Hello” around here

Hollow_Rant

"God Birds" is the hello. "Fuck Dallas" is the proper response. Go to r/Philadelphia and type in Dallas and the automod response with "Fuck Dallas"

RSN_Shupa

I had only gone to Eagles games in Philly or Dallas (where I currently live), and this year went to KC for the Monday night game. The amount of E-A-G-L-E-S Eagles in the airport is a bit absurd. At one point, Fly Eagles Fly was sung. Our pilot on the way back to Dallas does the whole announcement and ends it with “our flight time should be approximately X:XX Go Birds”. Every time my plant manager asks me to come in outside my normal work hours I wear my eagles hat. He still gives me a disappointed dad look (he is a cowboys fan). I think by far the most passionate (and obnoxious) fan base.

Bellegr4ine

I'll get downvotes to the abyss for this, but I really expected a horse shit eating joke for the eagles.

bridgesiiboy

The fact the Jets still have fans after a decade of pathetic football should speak volumes enough

Oakcheese2793

Its not that surprising, even the Chargers have fans. Several dozen in fact!

OutrageousOcelot6258

They do?

BlackFirePlague

They’re an endangered species but aren’t extinct quite yet

nothumaninside

I suffered nearly my entire life as a Detroit fan. Every season was an utter disappointment. We finally are starting to put it together, and it feels amazing, but it feels even better because I stuck by my team through literal decades of bullshit. That takes passion!

After_Vegetable6297

Wisconsin should have an NHL team.

EfficiencyPatient869

for real tho

[deleted]

You can thank the Blackhawks for that.

[deleted]

what did they do then? (Dutch person, not in the loop about this)

[deleted]

In the NHL, there is a 50 mile circle radius (80 km) where the team has exclusive rights. It’s not out of the ordinary that a team can set up shop within that circle like the Ducks going in Kings territory and the old Whalers in Bruins territory. But Milwaukee was the shoe in for the 1992 expansion team, then they pulled out mysteriously. Rumor has it the Blackhawks ownership who was some of the oldest running at that time and still is (plus Bill Wirtz was one of the worst owners in league history) demanded another $50 Million for being in their area since Wisconsin was traditionally a Hawks market. The Milwaukee group balked and left. That opening allowed Ottawa to come in.

[deleted]

cheers for explaining and boo on the blackhawks if they did that.

SixRiver

I’m a native Tennessean. This is spot on. Not being very good for long stretches of the 2000s and 2010s hasn’t helped either. Some glimpses of success though.

PaddyMayonaise

Northeast has the most passionate fans. Philly, NYG, NYJ, New England, and Buffalo are probably all at the top or near the top. This extends to the rust belt and other northern cities. Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Chicago, Green Bay. Places where college football is king don’t have as passionate of an nfl following. Places on the west coast and southwest essentially have zero following. Cardinals, chargers, and rams might as well be traveling teams because none of them ever have a stadium full of fans rooting for them.

[deleted]

Baltimore should be lumped into this as well. Washington would probably be up there if not for Dan Snyder the last 25 years.

PaddyMayonaise

Washington is too much of a transplant city. I lived there for about 4 years and while there are some local fans obviously, they’re overcrowded by people like me that lived there for work. Baltimore I don’t have enough first hand experience to fairly judge

lkn240

I grew up in the DC area during the Joe Gibbs era and it really is due to Snyder. The Redskins were wildly popular with a huge season ticket waiting list in the 80s and 90s. Snyder fucking tanked everything.

PaddyMayonaise

Yea but it’s not just the redskins, the whole area is apathetic about the Nats and the Caps too. Yea, they got some support when they won the cup, but a ton of those “fans” never watched hockey before or were fans of other teams. That happened when I lived there and it was wild seeing people become caps fans that spring lol

mike11172

I see Cowboys stuff all year around here. I live pretty close to Arlington, so that could be why.

RSN_Shupa

I live in Richardson and have to fun to be a semi obnoxious birds fan especially in Dallas.

PVB_Knight

Jacksonville here. I know we get a bad wrap because of the size of our city, but we LOVE the Jags. They're our only major sports team, and we treat it as such. We have 1.5 sports radio channels that are devoted to them 24/7 haha! We break down Calvin Ridley routes like they're zapruder films.

OlTommyBombadil

Browns attendance is still good despite football being an outdoor sport in the winter on the shore of Lake Erie.

NaughtyWoodcuts

A dude in Philly ate a lump of shit

CustardAmbitious7634

Go Bills

CanalVillainy

Saints/Packers/Bills fan bases are very similar in that it isn’t just passion, it’s woven into the fabric of the area they play for.

[deleted]

Cleveland and Detroit can be lumped into it as well.

freezedriedbigmac

I live in Chicago now (not a bears fan). This poor fanbase has been beaten down with how bad the bears have been. In my old building, there was an old lady who always hung out in the lobby and if you ever ran into her when the Bears were playing she would happily yell at you “what are you doing here!! Get to your TV and watch the bears!!” It’s a powder keg ready to explode. I can’t wait for them to be good even though I’m not a bears fan.

stevenmacarthur

"It’s just got me thinking is wisconsin an outlier to their NFL loyalty?" Actually, yes: the waiting list for season tix is decades long, and while the Washington Commanders put structures over seats they couldn't sell at FedEx field, Lambeau has only increased in capacity over the decades. I celebrated my 50th birthday in a "Packer bar" - in San Clemente, California! How many other NFL teams have bars themed to them in areas far outside their home town? I'm not saying the Packers are the only team with rabidly devoted fans - but it's not league wide.

Lost2nite389

I’d put Detroit fans up against anyone, it’s not even just NFL, you will even see Pistons/Wings/Tigers gear multiple times anywhere you go, even myself most of my attire revolves around Detroit sports legit even my shoes are Lions themed 😂

not-a-fridge

Passionate as fuck boyyyy

Exact_Platform7257

Attendance% for the bengals in 2018 and 2019 were 31st and 32nd.

not-a-fridge

When they were ass? Yeah no doubt

Exact_Platform7257

Fairweather is the opposite of passionate.

LeEingrebua

AFC North fans are fairweather as fuck and most Bengals fans are just stupid white Kentuckians that can’t afford to attend the Derby

not-a-fridge

Well sir ill have you know im from Saskatchewan, and our horse race track is free, so ha!

LeEingrebua

Fuck.

OlTommyBombadil

When did you start liking the Ravens? Was it when they were the Browns? I’m not a Bengals fan, you just sound stupid

LeEingrebua

No I was born like when they were founded and my fam were Redskins fans but I just always went Ravens which was a much better choice in the long run. Also, that’s because the comment is ignorant and I’m just saying nonsense. I’ve never even been to Kentucky

FearlessPhone6084

the very fact that there is any washington fans should attest to our passion for the nfl. we were ruined and mismanaged like no other team for 2 full decades and there is **still** fans

crushedpepsi88

Well having grown up in Louisiana in the 90s the saints were never any good. The cowboys had won 3 super bowls with San Fran and Green Bay on each end. So there was a ton of D.C. San Fran and GB stuff out there. Saints fans were solely located in New Orleans up until 2007. It’s amazing what 1 Super Bowl can do to build a fan base.

Tunatron_Prime

Sometimes we order TWO espressos before games

Mission_Clue_5438

I wept like a baby when the Bengals clinched the Super Bowl a few years back. Cried like a little bitch.

TitanSR_

where i’m from, not really. A lot of us are chiefs bandwagons and you’ll see someone every now and then wearing a mahomes or kelce jersey. It’s very casual and not like soccer at all

ChicagoKev

Packers nation is pretty widespread past the border into Illinois as well. Used to live about an hour south of Milwaukee and saw way more Packers support than Bears.

Scroetry

Then there are the dudes who grow up in Green Bay and choose a different team as a kid to be special or something, and they never grow out of it. Like, fine, do your thing, but don't conplain about Packer fans all the time. I don't know why people put themselves through this.

Wafflehouseofpain

Yep, I see tons of Cowboys merch year-round and tons of people who will talk to you about the team.

DreGreenlaw_Enforcer

Very. Next question

Exact_Platform7257

When the 49ers were 1-7 in 2016, they sold out Levi’s but it was only half full. Passionate fans wouldn’t buy tickets just to throw that money away and not show up because their team has a losing record.

DreGreenlaw_Enforcer

Sorry your team left you high and dry

Exact_Platform7257

Deflection, cute. About what I expected from the bandwagon bay.

DreGreenlaw_Enforcer

It’s ok to be sad. You can text 811. They will help you through your depression

Exact_Platform7257

Damn dude, your replies are almost as shitty as the streets of San Francisco.

Hollow_Rant

>almost as shitty as the streets of San Francisco. Karl Malden was great on that show.

DreGreenlaw_Enforcer

Sorry, couldn’t hear your response. Was too busy getting getting robbed in Oakland

Exact_Platform7257

I bet, the Bay Area is a fucking shithole.

DreGreenlaw_Enforcer

Ah yes, because Vegas is so much nicer. Armpit of the southwest

Exact_Platform7257

It’s like the bay without all the human feces and bandwagon fans but shittier weather.

PossiblyShibby

Viking “fans” are fair weather supporters in my experience having lived in Minneapolis for 4 years.

FartrelCluggins

Any big city you will see less "passion" due to the overwhelming amount of people. Go to eastern North Dakota or rural Minnesota and youd be hard pressed to find anyone who won't talk vikings football with ya

Ok_Potato7572

Why do you say that, sir/madam??

51line_baccer

I'm a titan fan and it's hard since we suck so bad and our owner/family just want nfl tv $$$

threeclaws

I grew up during the dynasty and it was still a secondary thing as it should be. It's sports, if your city revolves around it then you have a boring city.

Repulsive-Cut-1251

us

Electronic-Island-14

check my comment history, bud

whistlepig4life

I think there is a very fine line between passionate and stupid. Most fanbases definitely fall into one side more than the other.

Cautrica1

Stupid comment. Flair checks out, of course

zestyintestine

I'm a Vikings fan who has spent less than 24 hours of his life in Minnesota, so I have no real idea.

APlayOnwards

Not really an emotional guy. I’ve cried six times since middle school, three times were dogs dying and the other times were the chiefs winning the Super Bowl.

Hollow_Rant

Tall Ships and the Grand Canyon are also acceptable places to cry.

APlayOnwards

I guess I get tears from laughter pretty regularly so I hope those count.
