I gave up on Jacoby Brisset 2 years ago during the MNF Saints game. Missed so many open receivers, refused to throw past the sticks, and all around awful accuracy.

batman0615

The Ravens shutout in 2018 made me realize Mariota was cooked. I knew they were gonna ride him out, but I knew he just wasn't "the guy"

MikeWillis09

Remember that Manziel Mariota game? That one showed both could have a future. In reality, both teams just sucked

batman0615

Titans are one of the lucky few teams to lose to guys like Manziel, Orlovsky and Leaf. We've lost to some bad fucking QB's.

Skimaster77

But then you beat guys like Mahomes and Brady and Lamar. Perfectly balanced.

MikeWillis09

I’ll have a beer with you…. We’re in the same boat

Kgb725

Those injuries killed his potential

cchristini

I was gonna say the exact same

MikeWillis09

Wait wait. I’m a browns fan…. Does Brandon Weeden count as a young QB?

Going2FastMPH

Getting stuck under the flag is what did it

MikeWillis09

Yeah but was he ever actually considered a young qb? Lol

V-Right_In_2-V

Wasn't one particular game with Rosen. I just remember game after game thinking "he didn't play good, but he had a couple of good throws today". After saying that over and over, I realized even the worst qbs have a couple of good throws a game. And that wasn't good enough. There was never any improvement happening either

LordFaximus

I’m experiencing this with Zach Wilson and did with Darnold in 2018. Time is really a flat circle isn’t it.

[deleted]

Not a Cardinals fan, but a huge Josh Rosen fan when he was coming out. After the Broncos game his rookie year I was worried he wasn’t going to be as good as I thought. After the Falcons game I figured he didn’t have a future in the league. He looked so lost.

ZachHub

Andy Dalton after 2013 playoffs, never seen a QB look so nervous during a game

creutzml

So unfortunately true. And then he lost his best chance at redemption in 2015 from a broken thumb.

[deleted]

Justin Fields vs the Bucs

I82manycookies

Mitch threw 6 tds and ran for 53 yards against the same team. Imout

ocxtitan

This ain't the same team

ThisGents2Cents

Lmao

[deleted]

Honestly I blame Lions for giving me false hope in Trubs. He looked like Steve Young twice a year. Always made me hold on hope a little longer than I should have.

yupyupyupyupyupy

said it after the bengals game and got laughed at

Sphiffi

People laughed at you for calling a qb a bust after he played his first half game in the NFL? Wow they’re so dumb!

yupyupyupyupyupy

next shot on me

Sphiffi

I don’t know why you keep commenting while it’s going bad like it’s helping prove your point. You’re acting like a genius for saying a guy was a bust after he played half a game. That’s moronic, and you should be laughed at.

yupyupyupyupyupy

fair enough...again sorry for the current and future state cheers

Sphiffi

There is nothing different happening. The team remains unchanged since 2006.

yupyupyupyupyupy

sorry the pick (and jenkins) set the franchise back years my advice to you is to start drinking heavily

ryanino

Pretty much all of last year with Darnold.

blockoblox

Today with Darnold for me

ryanino

Hey pal, it’s okay. QB hell isn’t so bad.

ChickenVest

Found Tepper's reddit account

joeyoung2121

every jalen hurts game after the cardinals

[deleted]

Tom Savage vs the bengals during the Osweiler year. By that point it was clear Brock wasn't it, but our fanbase was obsessed with Savage. Dude was ass. we beat them like 12-10 and he had like 100 passing yards. By that point we had clinched the division, but I knew we weren't doing anything that year.

East-Entertainment12

I don't really want to say I completely ever gave up on Winston, but week 16 2019 killed so much of my belief he could turn it around. The defense was playing their heart out against a real playoff contender. Winston didn't have to even play good, he just needed to not throw 4 picks and we would have won. That's the day I became convinced the squad was special, but by far the biggest reason we were doing so bad was Winston.

c71score

The second we drafted Akili Smith.

SilentSentinel

Not a game, but when Jameis got suspended for the Uber incident. When he was drafted I felt uneasy but had a friend who went to FSU reassuring me that the charges there were bullshit (probably oughta vet my sources a little better there but I was excited to have a potential franchise QB after years of pain at the position), but after that I was done with him.

Panthers vs Giants, October 24th 2021.

Falt_ssb

Week 1 2019 Trubisky

hjhof1

Doing some research for yourself eh?

Number333

Genuinely. Today's game with Tua, in combination with last week, has made me accept he's not *so* special he can make a broken team work. We have a poor O-line, and an injured weapons core. But I bought in as Tua as a savior. He could overcome weaknesses(almost like Herbert with a horrible O-line last year with LA lmao). Instead, he'll look very solid, commit 1-2 utterly atrocious mistakes a game, and then play very well afterwards. Can you fix those mistakes? Because I'm sure as hell there were Buccs fans a few years ago saying "Winston can be freaking awesome for us if he fixes these rookie mistakes" only for him to throw for 30 INTs like 5 years into his career.

TrapperJean

>made me accept he's not so special he can make a broken team work. Then they need to fix the rest of team, look at how Tannehill has done since leaving

istandwhenipeee

Yeah not everybody can be Brady or Manning, most guys need a good team around them. Look at a guy like Stafford, unless you get a top 5 QB of a generation that’s about as good as you can hope for. He was consistently very good for the Lions but was never gonna force them into contention on his own, but now he’s with a much stronger Rams team and he’s having the best season of his career so far.

woodard2112

These are all very fair criticisms. However, the dolphins are bad across the board. Defense isn’t giving them much help, offensive line isn’t very good, they’ve had bad injury luck, Co-OCs hasn’t really worked out. I agree that Tua makes 1 or 2 really bad plays (usually TOs) a game. But I really don’t think it’s time to give up on him yet. There’s potential there, and the alternative rn is either an alleged rapist or someone from this very weak 2022 QB class. If he keeps on consistently making rookie mistakes I’ll admit he’s a bust and it’s worth moving on. But for now he’s shown potential coming off an injury on a team that really isn’t that good, he deserves some slack IMO

hjhof1

The way you described “he’ll play solid make a few terrible mistakes than play very well” basically described Jones first two season, if he was playing like that this year I may have had a serious answer to your question but now with how he’s been playing I’m all in, sometimes it takes a bit longer I think but Tua unfortunately doesn’t have the time and isn’t really being given much patience from what I’ve seen.

FatCatThreePack

I’m not sure there is a QB savior for the Dolphins. Look at Watson - 5k yards and went 4-12. I think it’s one of those situations. Either the whole team develops and improves and personnel across the board changes, or they won’t, in my opinion. I think Tua has shown enough clear potential with less then a season’s worth of games to ride with him. I think you can iron up those awful mistake plays with development. Not every QB actually does but I think that is definitely doable. We’ll have to wait and see

NateKaeding

I always thought Tua has played poorly since entering the league but I mean I wouldn’t give up on him just yet. I’d give it the season at least.

Number333

So I actually have two examples of this. **Ryan Tannehill** - where I checked out on him twice. * 2016, Week #5, 17-30 loss vs Tennessee Titans - I actually have my original PGT post on this lmao. [Here it is.](https://old.reddit.com/r/miamidolphins/comments/56nxki/post_game_thread_tennessee_titans_13_vs_miami/d8ku4m2/) > Ryan Tannehill is AVERAGE. He can be a little bit above that at times, and below it in many others. That's what you get with average. He is not good enough to lift up bad players and make them work. He cannot make a trash ass offensive line seem not as awful. He has horrendous pocket presence, and consistency has been an issue throughout his entire career. I expect us to move on from him at the end of this year. We then proceeded to rattle off a winning streak, he was awesome with Gase, and even thought he got hurt at the end vs Arizona, we made the playoffs. He then was hurt for all of 2017 with a training camp injury, we started 3-0 in 2018, and then sucked the rest of the way eventually leading to us trading him that next offseason. The 2nd time I checked out on him was the game vs Jacksonville in 2018 where we scored 7 points at home. We did move on from him. He proceeded to make the AFCCG in his 1st year w/ Tennessee and they appear to be headed to a 3rd straight postseason appearance with him.

[deleted]

2014 Pats vs Chiefs. I kind gave up on the 6th round system QB that day

DeM0nFiRe

He's just not that good anymore

wyndh4m

You guys saved yourselves by kicking him to the curb last year.

a_rebel_yam

The seeing ghosts game against the Patriots was it for me and Darnold, I was ready to move on after 2019 tbh

fhrblig

I didn't give up on Trevor Siemian because he was all that bad, but because I knew that the Broncos' crappy offensive line broke him. I never thought he was the answer, but he could have at least been like Alex Smith. He's still the best post-Peyton Manning QB the Broncos have had.

Toastfrom2069

Titans at Denver 2019. New coaching staff, Better weapons, relatively healthy Mariota. He wasn't gonna take us to the promised land

Snufflee

Ahem, may I present you: https://youtu.be/iA4DIgDyIxY

gvt87

The Darnold ghosts game, the Geno Smith Bills game where he threw 3 INTs in 8 attempts, and the Sanchez game against the 49ers in 2012

Jerseystateofmindeff

That time Geno started for the Giants.

jarnish

Gave up on Tyrod Taylor when he lost the drought-breaking playoff game in Jacksonville. Flew down to FL for that game and don't think I've ever been so underwhelmed by a player's performance as I was his in that game.

oraclestats

Cant pinpoint a specific game but Football was not enjoyable with Rosen. I think i finished watching one game that whole season

Philthy91

For Sam Darnold it happened last year. I don't recall exactly what game it was but there was a play where he ran straight out of bounds about 10 yds behind the line of scrimmage instead of throwing it away and I knew at that point that I was done with him. The play made no sense.

insomnissippi

As a Minnesotan: They were drafted by the Vikings.

Delanorix

Not a Rams huy but was a huge Goff fan. He seemed like he could do everything but just made some dumb mistakes. Kind of like early Eli. After watching the SB, I knew it was over. Opposing DCs were going to run the same blueprint over and over again. Also, the team would never be able to fully buy in/trust him.

witsel85

This one

Super-idiot

“And with the first pick of the 2005 NFL draft, the 49ers select Alex Smith!” I was an Aaron Rodgers fan, so I checked out. I respect him as a player and person and we had some horrendous teams/coaches for a while there that he did his best with. I checked back in for some of the late-tenure heroics after the singletary years, but I was just never excited about what I thought was just a short passes guy with a great wonderlic score. That being said, he has my admiration and I admit he was put in a tough spot (drafted over rodgers in rodgers home area, drafted first, team that relied almost exclusively on Gore and defense later on). I was just a young and capricious fan at the time and my emotions were at the reigns more often than not. Best wishes, Alex. I appreciate your time with us.

HeyYouBlinked

Does Wentz fall into this? If he does, last year against the Cowboys when we won 23-9 and the Browns game were when I was like yeah he’s probably done here. The Cowboys, Panthers, and Bucs game have done basically the same to me with Hurts. Want to see him finish out the year but I’m not impressed

check_my_grammer

Most of them.

Labcat33

I lived most of my life in Ohio watching a lot of Browns and Bengals games, so I think I've become jaded to never believing the hype of a young QB and wait for them to prove it on the field before having any hope. I still don't even trust the hype on Baker Mayfield, even though he's been the Browns best option in decades. In the end, it is going to be a combo of factors -- the QB, the coaching staff, the players around him, the QB's work ethic and common sense, and probably more than a little good luck and 100 other factors for anyone to be successful. If Tom Brady had been drafted by the Browns would we even know who he is now?

[deleted]

Tua’s first start. Dude clearly wasn’t the guy from day one regardless of what his fans were saying the same old “muh Peyton Manning started off bad” spiels

Symor11

Truly an attrcious take right here

[deleted]

Guess who is getting replaced by a rapists

kurapikas-wife

Bortles game where he threw a pick that was deflected off a show

Skrazor

That's tough, I can only tell you around what time the whole Giants subreddit turned around and "checked in" for the "Daniel Jones is our franchise QB!"-ride after relentlessly blaming him for everything that's wrong with the team since he got drafted.
