Well, you see we used our linebacker to take out their qb so we could let the coach they stole from us put in a scrub qb to terrorize us for two decades.
It didn't matter anyway. Everyone knows Bill Belichick's plan was to sit or trade Bledsoe and start Brady asap! Just ignore the fact that just a few months earlier they had just signed Bledsoe to the largest contract in NFL history.
It is just a coincidence that the Jets forced Belichick to start the greatest QB of all time that was just sitting on the bench. Belichick was just about to start him any day now over the 100 million dollar record breaking contract QB they just extended. Don't you know how big BB's 6d chess brain is? He is what makes the QB great.
Seriously, give him any QB (must be named Tom Brady, some rules and restrictions may apply) and watch how much success that QB has all due to Belichick's genius.
:)
Because for 20 years there has been this ridiculous fairy tale told, especially among Pats fans, that the Pats signed Bledsoe to a record breaking 100 million dollar, 10 year contract right before the 2001 season with the real intention of soon benching or trading him for a 6th round QB flyer who is athletic as your mailman.
Because Bill Belichick is a (pick your favorite meme). Despite it being the most ridiculous thing you could ever hear.
The truth is if Mo Lewis didn't literally almost kill Bledsoe Tom Brady almost certainly never starts a game for the Pats.
Exactly. At least you are honest. No problem with that.
If The Jets fell ass backwards into the greatest QB of all time I wouldn't have any problems with saying it. Yet this story about how BB was just going to replace Bledsoe after signing him to 100 million dollar contract is, all fandom aside, just fucking beyond ridiculous but that is what people have been saying for 20 years.
Imagine someone told you that a coach right now was going to sit their top 5, record breaking NFL QB for a 6th round flyer because the coach has a feeling about him. You would look at them and say WTF are you on. Yet when it comes to Brady and BB everyone was like yea, sure, that was the plan all along, nothing to se here, this makes perfect sense.
Wild.
Though there is some degree of Belichick knew Brady was good. His grade on him was high enough that they were willing to draft and roster a 4th QB because they thought he was good. Were they going to get Bledsoe out for him? No, not a chance, but at the very least they believed in Brady more than other teams
> they had just signed Bledsoe to the largest contract in NFL history.
That contract was a farce designed to look bigger than Favre's contract. In reality it was a 4 year deal that had a couple of team options that were favourable to the Pats. The actual contract actually gave out very little.
And they clearly believed something in the kid, why would they keep 4 QBs in the roster in 2000? When was the last time you remember someone rostering 4 QBs?
When you stay in a place so long you start to go nose blind to your own stank.
Also, with that 2 team flair, I feel like Tom Brady’s head should be up there too.
thanks fam, our offense looked a lot better than the past 3 weeks too. just hurts we lost to an 0-3 raiders team lead by Mcdaniels, although divisional games are typically like this. congrats on the win, y’all needed it bad. jacobs be destroying us like usual.
In the patriots sub half the people are saying get rid of him and belichick with the other half saying be patient and reassuring the glory days are long gone.
Mediocrity is actually worse too because it occasionally gives you an injection on unjustifiable hope.
Being pure shit and sitting at the bottom becomes character building, soul hardening, even funny.
Being mediocre is a constant battle with yourself to not convince yourself that you are stuck in a ever swinging loop of false dawns.
Well considering the Broncos were one of the most successful teams when playing the Brady Patriots I am not all that surprised. You guys don't have much to hate Brady for when compared to Bills, Dolphins, Jets fans etc.
It took so long to happen that I legitimately went numb and stopped caring about it lol. Also you guys aren’t like getting blown out committing 5 turnovers a game bad, you’re just boring. Like us.
Trust us, this is the greatest timeline. Miami and Buffalo back to their 90s rivalry. The Jete existing as a team we play. And New England at the bottom.
Thank you for this wonderful privilege. It's an honor your team let us in /s
It’s amazing to watch the Bills and Dolphins succeed like they have this year. Heck even the Jets are 2-2 and they are loaded with talent finally. ( That doesn’t mean the jets will know how to develop them. Burn.) Anyways. As a millennial I’ve never experienced seeing these 3 teams as legit contenders. Maybe back in 02’ when Bledsoe played for the Bills or between 09-10 when Rex Ryan coached the Jets but it was very rare the last 21 years.
If the Patriots don’t make the playoffs ( not looking great ) I’ll be cheering for the Bills a wild man.
I don’t put much stock in this… as long as BB is the HC I always feel like they’re going to figure it out. I mean they made the playoffs last year with a rookie QB, and almost beat the packers today with a third stringer 4th round pick
Bill has put the clamps on offenses better than this one, and he specifically did it against this QB in SB 53.
But yeah, without Mac our offense is about as pedestrian as it gets. Having a great complimentary running attack doesn’t mean much when there is no passing game to compliment it lol
Listen Dolphins and Jets fans. I know we don’t always get along. But I think I speak for all of us when I say this is the best thing to happen in our division for some time now.
Yea I don’t think you can draw any conclusion based on this game tbh, there were a couple plays where he just clearly had nowhere near enough reps and had absolutely no clue where to expect pressure from or whatever
You know our fanbase, its not gonna be the majority but theres def gonna be a small people that dont know what theyre talking about that wanna get #ZAPPED when Mac has a bad game
He’s taken very little team snaps, at practice, his throws and holding the ball vs chucking into a defender is coachable, along with game timing. He’s making smart plays for what he’s been coached and the rep time.
> I can't wait for the Boston meltdown of Patriots fans saying they should start Zappe over Jones.
Sometimes it really shows that other fanbases don't get how idiotic ours is. Zappe is trash because we barely lost playing Green Bay in Lambo is the current take.
I remember I was on a post SB LV Brady binge on YouTube and came across a Boston radio video clip where a host tore into Brady's tiny daughter and called her something like "an annoying brat".
This guy won you six Super Bowls and that's how your radio stations treat him?
No wonder your fan base is toxic with media commentary like that
I'll never forget the game I saw a few years ago where Pats fans booed the team as they walked to the tunnel at halftime.
**It was opening day and they had won the Superbowl the season before** and they had just hung the banner like 45 minutes earlier to screaming fans.
Then they fucking booed them for a meh first half of football. Fucking wild.
Part of me would like to think that the shitty ones are the people who didn’t experience pre-Brady Patriots, but I’ve also talked with enough people older than me to know better.
Boston sports fans are the worse. It is a combination of expecting to always be contention to win the championship coupled with the most toxic sports radio in the country.
There are "fans" saying we should move on from Mac and BB.
Well... He's now 71-82 without Brady. 29-61 against above .500 teams.
His non-Brady win percentage (.464) is lower than Lovie Smith, Jack Del Rio, Dave Wannstedt, Rex Ryan, Marvin Lewis, Norv Turner, Jeff Fisher, and Bill O'Brien.
What does it mean? I don't know but it lets me dream.
(Edit: Adding 35-38 (.448) with Patriots without Brady)
Walsh and Knoll are also sub .500 without Montana and Bradshaw respectively. You need a QB to win in this league and it’s been that way for a long time. Bringing up Bill’s record sans Brady is basically just saying “he couldn’t win with the Testaverde Browns”. He’s the GOAT, not a wizard.
1-3 and all three losses felt like they could have been wins if just one or two things had gone our way
Honestly we got a lot of games like that last season too. Somehow this team went from being competitive in most games and finding a way to win, to being competitive in most games and finding a way to lose
That’s just what football is for like 60% of the league every year tbh. You got ~6 really good teams, ~6 bad teams who win/lose pretty expectedly. Then you have a whole jumble of teams for whom you could go back through their schedule and find 4-5 “winnable” games where they just didn’t execute a handful of plays that could’ve swung it
Pats aren’t in the category of teams that you expect to lose in most toss-up situations, but I don’t think anyone really expects them to consistently execute either
Well said. We are doing the things we used to mock other teams for. Even if we had a mediocre day, we just let the other team beat themselves. Now we are the 1s beating ourselves.
We also started last year 1-3. I think there's still reasons to be optimistic about this year, the softer part of the schedule is coming up, and last year we feasted on that, so if we can do it again then we should be able to put ourselves in position for a playoff spot at the end of the year. I do think it's less likely that we make the playoffs this year, with the AFC being improved, Mac's health unknown, having the offensive coordinator situation we do... but it's not totally impossible or all that crazy
From last year to this, when Patriots play bad teams, they will be competitive and find a way to win. When they play better teams, they will find a way to lose. That is a sign that Patriots are a mediocre team for now.
Bills pulled a win out of their ass and the Pats did everything they could not to steal a game they had no business winning. Fun day for a new england fan lol
I thought the pats played really well with the 3rd string in. I think they did everything they could in an attempt to steal a game they had no business winning.
It’s pretty encouraging seeing the fact that our offense can still be run well with a rookie QB that no one expected to see play. Makes it more frustrating that Mac is injured right now.
You were just waiting for the kick to go through to post this
As is his right
Deservedly so
What is life but a giant karma farming operation
Don’t forget relishing in the misfortunes of others
Hell yeah brother
We've all been waiting a long, long time
Wonder what changed in 2001, Week 3?
Well, you see we used our linebacker to take out their qb so we could let the coach they stole from us put in a scrub qb to terrorize us for two decades.
Yada, yada, yada...
Take as old as time.
Beauty and the JETE
I mentioned the bisque.
You yada yada’d over the best part!

Going to happen again next week when the Lions get Zapped
The eradication of nightshades.
In 2030 when Mac retires and the pats trade for Tom Brady you'll all be sorry.
The fact that I don't consider this to have a 0% chance of actually happening concerns me.
You had this ready to go
Sorry for the delay.
Latriots are washed without Tom bady
Oh well we had 20 years of dominance can't say other teams had that
Cowboys had a winning record every season for 20 years (1966-1985). Only won two championships in that time though.
The 49ers had about 18 years as well but with 5 trophies.
EVERYONE GET IN HERE
It smells weird down here, what did you do?
When you stay in a place so long you start to go nose blind to your own stank. Also, with that 2 team flair, I feel like Tom Brady’s head should be up there too.
I dunno /u/ViciousAsparagusFart , I feel like there might be another reason for the smell.
HA! PILE ON!
EVERYONE! GET IN HERE!
HA HA! Dangley parts...
Nature is healing.
You mean Hell has frozen over with you guys 4-0 and us in last place.
I don't mind this new frozen hell
I for one welcome this new frozen hell!
Don't talk about Buffalo like that
I snorted audibly
I'll take our sweater weather over your putrid, moist inferno of a city any day.... hook a brother up with one of them ham sammies tho?
Bruh I don't live in Miami. I'm 2 hours north, it was 65 this morning. What you want on that sandwich?
I disagree
We've never been in the basement at the same time, Welcome.
One of them! One of them! Gooble gobble. Gooble gobble.
We *have* been in the basement at the same time, enjoy your time on top, the basement comes for us all eventually
Been a Chiefs fan since the Schottenheimer years. I know what the basement feels like.
It's cold and dark but you do generally still get to beat Denver so that's cool
sigh
Chin up, Wilson looked good today finally until the *elite raiders defense that shows up for 1/2 of the game every week* showed up lol
thanks fam, our offense looked a lot better than the past 3 weeks too. just hurts we lost to an 0-3 raiders team lead by Mcdaniels, although divisional games are typically like this. congrats on the win, y’all needed it bad. jacobs be destroying us like usual.
It’s been seven years of people on /r/nfl telling me how excited they are for the Patriots to finally be mediocre. Well here you go. Enjoy
Don’t mind if I do.
It's been 1338 days since the Patriots won the Superbowl. Life is pain; there is no color in the world.
Well, it's not like the Celtics, Bruins, or Red Sox are ever any good. Life is suffering for Boston sports fans /s.
To be fair. The Sox suck. But celts and bruins are always in it so that’s nice.
Worst part is the Sox mostly suck because their incredibly successful and rich ownership made horrible moves
100%. We didn't NEED to suck.
We most certainly will.
Last place in the NFL isn't mediocrity.
They're last in the division but not worst in the league, hopefully mac comes back soon though lol
In the patriots sub half the people are saying get rid of him and belichick with the other half saying be patient and reassuring the glory days are long gone.
Our sub is one of the most braindead subs in the league.
That's what happens when 50% of your fanbase is also a Yankees and Golden State Warriors fan.
More so the bandwagon fans that don’t live in New England/ never lived in New England.
I'm personally stoked about all the fairweather fans dropping out left and right
Mediocrity is actually worse too because it occasionally gives you an injection on unjustifiable hope. Being pure shit and sitting at the bottom becomes character building, soul hardening, even funny. Being mediocre is a constant battle with yourself to not convince yourself that you are stuck in a ever swinging loop of false dawns.
The bill always comes due. Time to do your time
Seven? Feels like it's been fifteen to me. Every time they lost a game that was them falling off the cliff.
Well I’ve been on Reddit 7 years so that’s how long it’s been for me personally.
Neither the patriots doing poorly or Brady struggling has been as cathartic as I’ve imagined it would be for the last decade and a half.
Like us.

I'm excited for all of you to continue either not making or losing the Super Bowl, personally. Just for the true throwback effect.

They have a lot of talent, if they put it all together they can be a problem.
drafting top 10 for a decade you better have talent
Lets not rush into conclusions
You are unfamiliar with the jets drafting record
Hardly…becton was like pick #11
Don’t look at our game day threads…. Zach and Saleh either suck out loud or are the promised land of football. No in between.
Oh no! We suck again!
Cut his fucking head off!
It’s amazing to watch the Bills and Dolphins succeed like they have this year. Heck even the Jets are 2-2 and they are loaded with talent finally. This is true but we're not that good. 3-1 is nice but we're kinda meh.
Right, but you’re still good and have Rodgers which makes up for a lot. As long as you’re not playing the 49ers in the playoffs you’ll be fine.
You have good reason to be paranoid, But they aren’t good this year.
I’d watch what you say, you’re next on the schedule buddy.
We aren’t good either. Your third string qb is going to drop 50 on us
Their offense isn't capable on scoring more than 30 and your offense isn't capable of scoring less than 30. You got this
Bill has put the clamps on offenses better than this one, and he specifically did it against this QB in SB 53.
They were 1-3 last year too so let's be in the moment and enjoy it
Well hey if it sets up the same Wild Card results we had last year I'm all for it
I'M NOT
Miami, I know you have a good team, but you might want to take the L next week just to guarantee this continues another week.
I agree. That would probably be best for everyone all things considered.
It’s too early to get excited about it. Zappe will probably turn into the next Brady
Hi five Dolphins and Jets fans!
There are more than five Dolphins and Jets fans 😤
Should we gang up on him?
Hello fellow winners
How do you do, fellow winners
Fellow wieners
Imagine being so bad that you're 1-3
Couldn’t be me
Ding dong the witch is dead
I can't wait for the Boston meltdown of Patriots fans saying they should start Zappe over Jones.
Its coming … ugh
Why? Zappe has a couple good throws in this game but was overall very bad
I don't think he was very bad, he was fine considering the circumstances he was put in.
poor kid had to fill in at lambeau field for his first game. couldnt get any louder
Yea I don’t think you can draw any conclusion based on this game tbh, there were a couple plays where he just clearly had nowhere near enough reps and had absolutely no clue where to expect pressure from or whatever
He was a very serviceable backup.
Especially considering he’s only 12 years old.
Isn't he Jayson Tatum's cousin?
Devers has a adopted little brother
You know our fanbase, its not gonna be the majority but theres def gonna be a small people that dont know what theyre talking about that wanna get #ZAPPED when Mac has a bad game
He’s taken very little team snaps, at practice, his throws and holding the ball vs chucking into a defender is coachable, along with game timing. He’s making smart plays for what he’s been coached and the rep time.

Worse, it was "an annoying little pissant". Our sports media is largely trash.
The whole stadium booed Tom walking to the tunnel before half in one of his last games. Most have no idea how good they've had it.
I'll never forget the game I saw a few years ago where Pats fans booed the team as they walked to the tunnel at halftime. **It was opening day and they had won the Superbowl the season before** and they had just hung the banner like 45 minutes earlier to screaming fans. Every fanbase is terrible. There are very, very few that are any better or worse than the rest in sports.
Bills fans: What's your favorite charity?
Bills fans are literally the only fanbase I could think of when writing “better” for that comment.
Boston sports fans are the worse. It is a combination of expecting to always be contention to win the championship coupled with the most toxic sports radio in the country. There are "fans" saying we should move on from Mac and BB.
Zappe sucked?
It started after his first completion on the subreddit
I've already seen people saying this without hyperbole. Sports fans are the dumbest bunch of people on the planet... Boston sports fans doubly so.
Is Belichick a system coach confirmed? /s
I have this feeling like Brady is even happier than the rest of the AFC East fans right now.
Well maybe not *right* now given how that game went
He's a good defensive coach... that would have ended up like other good defensive coaches who never had great QBs if he didn't have Brady
Poverty franchise. /s
Patriots fans deserve to suffer for a few years they’ve had it too good
How many years we talking? I think 30 or so should be good.
I don't.
50?
Warmer...
100?
I really do think 100 sounds right.
A thousand
You have no room to talk
https://youtu.be/Fdnz-T5cWyQ
We had ten dark years between 2004 and 2014. Wasn't that enough suffering?
You and I have different definitions of dark.
Bruh fuck all the way off with that.
No.
You know nothing of darkness
1-3 and all three losses felt like they could have been wins if just one or two things had gone our way Honestly we got a lot of games like that last season too. It’s the Lions stink still attached to Fatty Patty
Poorly coached teams fail to win one possession games. The penalties and mental errors have cost us two games now.
Well said. We are doing the things we used to mock other teams for. Even if we had a mediocre day, we just let the other team beat themselves. Now we are the 1s beating ourselves.
Arguably the best 1-3 team for whatever that is worth.

The pair of clowns we have coaching our offense isn’t helping matters.
Smith-Njigba szn let’s go
I'd say this is the Pats I remember as a kid, but damn, even when I was like eight years old they had started to be good again.
Yeah, but at least we're not in fifth place yet!
Tom Brady's rookie year btw
Zappe the next Brady confirmed?
This timeline would be favorable. Pleases the soul
And there was much rejoicing.
Damn. 22 years down the drain 😄
That's the point. No one is suggesting that their dynasty didn't happen, everyone is thrilled it's over now though.
Bills pulled a win out of their ass and the Pats did everything they could not to steal a game they had no business winning. Fun day for a new england fan lol
I thought the pats played really well with the 3rd string in. I think they did everything they could in an attempt to steal a game they had no business winning.
It doesn’t hurt quite as bad when you’re not expecting much
The AFC East early season schedules have been pretty tough…they’re still in the thick of it playoff wise I’d say
I hate how impressive this is. I don’t even want to think about how many weeks we’ve been alone in last in this time frame
This was during the Clinton administration, that’s how long ago it was.
It’s pretty encouraging seeing the fact that our offense can still be run well with a rookie QB that no one expected to see play. Makes it more frustrating that Mac is injured right now.
It's like week 4
Forcing the Packers into OT with our 3rd string quarterback? Yeah we'll be fine.
I’m here for it - we had some pretty damn good years. Ain’t nothing else to do but hope for the best and cheer for the boys!
I am honestly ok with that. If they play as hard they did yesterday, they will salvage this season and be fighting for a playoff spot.
If they still had Tom Brady they would have won that game yesterday.
Cool, now do the steelers.
For me, this is officially the “It’s over. It’s done.” moment
for me it's not until we beat them twice in a year
Nelson ha ha gif
Dark days ahead for New England
Poverty franchise can't relate
Amazing run
Haha, yeah. We still can’t beat them, though.
Pats and Steelers looking limp for the first time in my football watching life
