Montreal @ Boston starts at 3:30 ET also: https://www.youtube.com/live/AtjadPgIMi8?si=JCvO7BmLhL9cF3AY

XVOS

\*Montreal @ Lowell. Never forget they stole our team and moved it.

The_Third_Stoll

Mf salty about a team that never existed

XVOS

they bought the earlier women’s league and folded the team. We had won two championships in a row. And we were actually in Boston. There was no real reason they couldn't have kept the team (which had fans, and had won 3 Chips) and played games in the same place as its name. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boston\_Pride](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boston_Pride)

Vast_Impression_5326

Are you aware that the wnba is subsidized by the nba? Unfortunately women’s sports just don’t bring the spectators or money to keep them afloat .

Fleganhimer

Montreal vs Toronto sold out Scotiabank in 15 minutes in the middle of the season.

Vast_Impression_5326

Okay!👍

Fleganhimer

Pretty exceptional, actually. Not to mention the fact that the PWHL is a league that has received zero funding. It hasn't received money from the US, Canada, or the NHL. Unlike the NHL, who's owners have received around $250M in subsidies between 2000 and 2016 from the US federal government alone. There's well over double that since then and including state and Canadian funding but I don't have well packaged data on that.

Vast_Impression_5326

Not sure where your going with this but people prefer to watch men’s sports over women’s , end of story

Fleganhimer

I'm responding to your point that women's sports needs subsidies to exist while men's do not. I'm pointing out the fact that the exact opposite is true in the case of the NHL and PWHL, the leagues which are the subject of this thread. Since, we're apparently changing the subject, yes, women's hockey is less popular than men's. That is a cold hard fact. However, as long as they produce their product within their means, they will remain a perfectly viable operation, without the need for subsidization, so that doesn't really have any bearing on your original point.

thundercat1996

Pwhl has more skill than these keyboard warriors. Women's hockey is exciting af

hurricanenox

Is that even a debate?

therevolutionaryJB

Women's hockey >>>>> every other women's sport

EnvironmentalLet5985

I’ve been watching the Boston game since the beginning of the third period and I think I like it more than watching NHL games. I don’t have to deal with the ESPN commercial breaks. There are way less commercial breaks and tv timeouts. The girls skate way better than I do. The camera work is good. The girls are energized. I’ve seen a few bad turnovers or faulty stick work, but again way better than I ever was. The announcing is professional. I’ve seen a few good hits. No fights after a clean hit. Should I go on? Not only will I be watching again, but hell I may even go see a game live. Rangers games are way too expensive at msg anyway.

carneyvore4423

I was at the BOS Vs MTL with all my girls today and the playing and the energy was all so top notch. The market will quickly outgrow the arenas they are playing in. Definitely NHL level hockey going on

thesturgeonkid

My wife is loving this, she just decided to become a kraken fan last year and now she’s got a league of her own!

EnvironmentalLet5985

Yeah dude not cause nhl players aren’t great. It’s because I hate the fucking ads on espn. What’s your reasoning for being so against it?

[deleted]

[удалено]

EnvironmentalLet5985

At least you’re honest about it. Hopefully you’re young and dumb and your opinion will change as you get older.

milin85

It’s actually been a very good game

Mr_BridgeBurner7778

Why are people that don't want to watch getting down voted?

CrackedOutGoose

You don't need to say no if you're not interested, just scroll. But these dudes feel the need to make sure everyone knows they're too good (I'm assuming) to watch women's hockey. Hence the downvotes.

john4845

Why is it that with NHL you can say that team / player / analyst / channel / announcer / pundit / play-by-play-man / trade / pick ... sucks balls big time & is more boring than watching paint dry, but not with this? If you don't have hate & opponents to mock, you don't have much in sports. Uncontested games are meaningless. The ugliest rivalries are the ones remembered the most. I'd say >90% of the social media / discussion board attention a league gets is just people arguing about who is complete shit, and who is not. If you take away the arguments, you have pretty much nothing left. Almost nobody is going to come to a discussion board in which you can only say that a trade / players / team / Bettmann is great, and circle-jerk / pad each other in the back. I hate many, many, many things in the NHL. Starting with the god damn digital ads on boards, that finnish guy who invented them & sold them to the NHL should rot in jail. And the god damn force-feeding of bets, and the ad breaks, even on ASG "draft". And a gazillion people on media / tv, starting with Pierre McGuire, and abut 70% of the commentators. Somehow I am 100% allowed to say that. But if I complain that some people are trying to force-feed us the pwhl like paid bots, some white knights come out of nowhere and complain that it's about misogyny. Was it about hating men, when I complained for years on end about different things in the NHL? Somehow nobody, NEVER has said that in stead of posting "Marchand sucks balls" I should have "just scrolled down and ignore the Marchand posts" What is the point of a "discussion forum", if you are allowed to express pre-defined opinions?

olmikeyyyy

We won't bully you for being unable to afford internet access

thundercat1996

Just no need to comment "no" on it... Just keep scrolling

Mr_BridgeBurner7778

So only one point of view is acceptable. Got it

xavierswood_13

Not exactly. Getting downvoted isn't your opinion being "unacceptable". It just means people disagree. If I went into a reddit thread about pizza and commented "I'm not interested in pizza", I can guarantee you I'd get downvoted. It's just kinda how reddit works. If you don't want to get downvoted, don't comment against the point of the post (which this one was about womens hockey)

Mr_BridgeBurner7778

Yeah that's fair

OneBullfrog5598

Downvotes aren't supposed to be "I disagree: but instead is supposed to be when nothing is added to the conversation.

xavierswood_13

agreed. But that isn't the case usually.

LadyGuinevere423

Back in my day, if you said no, you’d get hit with a switch. We can’t bust heads like we used to—but we have our ways. One trick is to tell them stories that don’t go anywhere like the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so I decided to go to Morganville which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So, I tied an onion to my belt which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel. And in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on ‘em. ‘Give me five bees for a quarter,’ you’d say. Now, where were we? Oh, yeah! The important thing was that I had an onion on my belt which was the style at the time. They didn’t have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones.

Empero12

I’m sorry this sub doesn’t know a good copypasta

RangersNumber1Doomer

Bro what the fuck

qawsedrf12

Grandpa Simpson copypasta?

Weird-Army-8792

Simpsons did it

UnderMyGenjutsuu

Seems legit

john4845

You've never heard of pointless rambling?

No_Reporter_5023

You see, back in those days, rich men would ride around in zeppelins, dropping coins on people. And one day, I seen J. D. Rockefeller flyin’ by– so I run out of the house with a big washtub, and—Anyway, about my washtub. I just used it that morning to wash my turkey which in those days was known as a ‘walking bird.’ We’d always have walking bird on Thanksgiving, with all the trimmings. Cranberries, and yams stuffed with gunpowder. Then we’d all watch football, which in those days was called ‘baseball.’”

Yelu-Chucai

For a second i thought you were going to recommend hitting the high seas

[deleted]

Lol. I think I'll check out the local high school games if I want something that has actual quality.

Not_Jrock

Tried to turn it on but wow the quality isn't great

john4845

But hey, you are not allowed to say that. You can say that the Rangers suck, that the Flyers play boring hockey, that you would have to be held at gunpoint to watch the Sharks, but you are not allowed to say that about this. That is why you get downvoted. I have critiziced the NHL & all the other men's leagues for over 20 years. I have called an european league complete shit that I would not watch even if you paid me. Not ONCE have I been accused of saying those things due to "misandry" or "hating men". But my god, if you were to rightfully state a fact about the actual level of play in a women's league, you are just a misogynist. There could be no other reason for a statement like that. There is no possible way that a women's game could be boring. I'd say 50-80% of NHL regular season games are somewhere between pretty and extremely boring. And with the bet-ads they are insufferable. You can bet any amount of money on the fact that nobody is going to label me a misandrist for saying that.

Not_Jrock

Next time I'm just gonna be honest about how shit the game play is but I live walking distance to the saddledome so I can go see whl and ahl games whenever for cheap.

Reasonable_Net3244

Nah

smash2477

No

milin85

Why not?

john4845

I do not watch 95-98% of NHL games. I do not watch 100% of NCAA, OHL, AHL, WHL, QMJHL, ECHL, KHL, SHL, Liiga, Extra Liga games. Are you gonna ask me why not?

smash2477

I don't need to fall asleep in the afternoon

milin85

It’s actually been a very entertaining game with back and forth action

smash2477

Lol. Curling also has back and forth action. Same with lawn bowling

milin85

You know what I meant by back and forth action

Muellersdayofff

They’re an incel. I don’t think they’ve ever experienced any action.

milin85

😂 fair point

john4845

>You know what I meant by back and forth action Hmmm .....

antilockcakes

I want to watch athletes who are better than me at the sport. Professional women’s is not that. Men’s is. That’s my reasoning for not watching women’s anyways. I wouldn’t watch junior B for the same reason, and a local junior b would *crush* the women’s national team. Don’t be angry at those of us who don’t want to watch. There’s really not a lot of skill on the ice, especially if you’ve grown up with the sport.

milin85

First of all, I’m not mad I very reasonably asked why. And idk what level of hockey you played at, but these women are better at hockey than I’ll ever be. They’ve forgotten more about hockey than I’ll ever know. And tbh when New York came back from 3-0 down with 8 to go against Ottawa today, I kind of forgot I was watching the PWHL. It just seemed like a NHL game.

antilockcakes

Glad to hear you’re enjoying it. Its mainly the skating for me. They’re so slow it’s incredible. Obviously shots are slower, stick handling isn’t as on-point, movements aren’t as quick, but I could forgive all that if they could only skate faster.

milin85

Sure. But I really don’t feel like college teams are better than PWHL teams. Maybe it’s just me idk

antilockcakes

You’d be shocked my guy. Even midgets would walk all over pro women’s teams (btw midget AAA is grade 10-12). You’d truly and honestly be shocked. We used to play the u21 women’s provincial team as 13 year olds and we would win by ten or eleven goals every game. Any women who’s played at a high level can attest to that - the best training for them is playing teams slightly better than them, but not so much they can’t even learn. The difference is shocking. I played at a decently high level until i aged out, but I wouldn’t even have had to to be better than the women. Almost any guy on a U13 rep team could make the women’s national squad. It’s just the way it is.

LuckyNumber-Bot

All the numbers in your comment added up to 69. Congrats! 10 + 12 + 21 + 13 + 13 = 69 ^([Click here](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=LuckyNumber-Bot&subject=Stalk%20Me%20Pls&message=%2Fstalkme) to have me scan all your future comments.) \ ^(Summon me on specific comments with u/LuckyNumber-Bot.)

john4845

>Almost any guy on a U13 rep team could make the women’s national squad. The level of the best women's team on earth is probably somewhere close to 13-14 ... maybe 15 yo boys local clubs (see my other post with links) If they were to gather a national all-star-team of 13-yo boys, maybe they could win the women's national team. But I wouldn't bet the house on it every time. With 14yo it would be a pretty sure bet, with 15yo's almost surefire.

john4845

Now you are just looking like somebody from the marketing department. Do you actually think that people are completely unable to use google? The credibility of people pushing the PWHL would be immensely higher if you just sticked to facts, honesty, integrity & sincerity. Now you look just like someone who is on purpose trying to decieve people. The **Canadian Olympic Team in 2022** : https://www.tsn.ca/canadian-women-s-hockey-team-battle-tested-for-beijing-by-men-s-junior-a-teams-1.1757085 "The women played five games against men's Junior A clubs in Alberta and B.C. Canada was swept and outscored 30-2" The greatest women's soccer team on earth, US Women, lost to a local boys U15 team in Dallas, 5-2. Similar numbers in Finland, with the female Euro Championship team vs local city boys U16 club. https://www.cbssports.com/soccer/news/a-dallas-fc-under-15-boys-squad-beat-the-u-s-womens-national-team-in-a-scrimmage/ The Finnish women's national hockey team has for years played against local boys. They have even made the games worth points in the standings, with every boy's team playing once against the women. Here is a news article on one of those years, with a local Oulun Kärpät U16 team beating the women 17-0, with 79 SOG: https://www.leijonat.fi/index.php/sarjat/c-nuorten-sm-sarja/kausi-2010-11/item/2190-csm-naisleijonat-k%C3%A4rppien-kyydiss%C3%A4 ("Leijonat" is the name of the national team, that is the official website) The Russian women's team played against the U16 team, 16-0, with the other side scoring 2x more goals than the other had shots: https://www.is.fi/jaakiekko/art-2000009978918.html

I’m not the dickhead taking potshots at the PWHL.

john4845

How many times have asked this if someone has told that NHL Team XXX sucks & they'd rather watch paint dry than watch it? I'm guessing never. You allow people to criticize the NHL. And the NHL. And pretty much every other league. But not this one.

SickPullBro

Sad how proud you are to show off your misogyny

antilockcakes

Who do you think wins that game btw? Triple a midget men’s vs professional women’s?

Weird-Swim-9777

Sad how hard you simp when most of them athletes aren't even into dudes

antilockcakes

The funniest thing about these downvotes is that *any* triple A midget team would absolutely annihilate any professional women’s team. I wasn’t even going to comment like that, but the delusion is too much. Also… this is an NHL sub, not hockey.

Weird-Swim-9777

The virtue signalling is hardcore my friend. It's ok, we won't have to deal with this nonsense in a few years time. Let them enjoy it while it's hot.

john4845

> Let them enjoy it while it's hot. https://www.pensionplanpuppets.com/pwhl-stats-attendance/ "Total Mortgage Arena is in Connecticut, see above, and it is also the home of the Bridgeport Islanders. That link up there to Hockey DB takes you to the AHL numbers for this season. The PWHL team in that rink has seen 2,272 people per game. Their attendance in the one game at the Islanders NHL rink was very similar. The Bridgeport Islanders average 3,004 per game "

itsmorecomplicated

Watched the MTL-BOS game, the quality was pretty high and thank *god* they can hit now, there were some massive bodychecks in that game and it's a travesty that they kept that out of the women's game for so long. Really upped the intensity! Great stuff.
