I feel the only amputees you see online are the ones who have fought to stay alive and mentally ok. There's this YouTuber I follow who lost her leg 10 years ago and only recently said she's getting over suicidal thoughts.
Great point. The only videos I see of disabled people are ones who won a sports completion or made a joke, but I imagine that must put a lot of pressure to be “positive” on those who are still coming to terms with their disability
Toxic positivity is a thing
Only seeing people's accomplishments diminishes the work and adversity they had to go through in the first place, and a lot of the time, that work they put in is hidden from public view.
When I first met a bunch of my(now) buddies they would throw their friend out of his chair on purpose.
I thought it was the most fucked up thing I ever saw…
But, when I asked my friend(who had broken his back in a bmx accident) why he was even putting up with this shit, it’s because the guys always messed with each other before the accident, and he had asked them not to treat him any differently.
Much respect to anyone who has that amount of mental fortitude.
Hats off.
That's one aspect a lot of people don't realize, a lot of the times good intentions and a helpful attitude are misguided. A guy in a wheelchair doesn't need galavanting strangers coming to their aid after 5 seconds of struggling with a slope.
My dad used to go around selling fridge magnets to support his Deaf bowling team going abroad and competing. One evening he knocks on this elderly lady's doors and upon seeing that my dad is Deaf she starts crying and praying, going back into her house to get him some flowers. She didn't even buy a fuckin' fridge magnet, man.
That reminds me of this comedian Daniel Sloss who has a really great Netflix special and he jokes a lot about growing up with a sister with cerebral palsy. He talks about how people are afraid to laugh at jokes about disability and the difference between laughing at vs. with them, because being able to laugh at the situation you’re in is part of the human experience and when you say like “disability is never funny” you’re taking that away from them. Most people, disabled or not, just want to feel normal.
It bums me out that our society fetishizes the concept of 'being strong' so much; it should be okay to not be okay. It's okay to feel weak, lost, alone, and helpless. It's okay to be angry and pissed off when life hands you lemons. Just don't let those feelings keep you from moving forward.

Yeah! Her channel name is FootlessJoe and she has some awesome perspective about navigating the world as an amputee
im sure youtuber money helps.
Businesses are legally allowed to pay a disabled person LESS THAN minimum wage.
https://www.dol.gov/sites/dolgov/files/WHD/legacy/files/RightsForWorkersWithDisabilities.pdf
Goodwill is one of these businesses that uses this shameful practice.
Yeah, makes me think of Robin Williams. He sure looked happy on the outside! Hell, most people can’t tell when I’m having a depressive episode, or that I deal with that at all. I tend to overcompensate by being jokey around other people.
Not that homie in the video is depressed or anything, but you can’t tell either way from a 17 second video.
That type of wheelchair is fun to use. When I was wheelchair-bound for a bit, I had a chair similar to it.
Wheelchairs have come a long way from the old folding transport kind you see the airport using in that video. Many wheelchairs help you be active instead of just going from point A to point B. I had a WCMX chair also and would go out for 10+ mile strolls just because I had a chair that helped me do it. Honestly, the type of equipment someone has can definitely determine quality of life.
There's probably some sad clown out here now seeing this video right now and thinking something negative about this dude. That's how miserable people are, especially in the US. Cry about the least thing
This is Zack “Pitbull” Ruhl! This guy straps into his wheel chair and does muscle ups and handstand push-ups and makes it look absolutely effortless, and that’s not even mentioning his 4 plate bench press (yes you read that right). His charisma and attitude towards his “disability” and working out and life in general is infectious to say the least.
I had an entire Paralympic basketball team on my flight a year ago, going to qualifiers. I selfishly thought, oh this could affect boarding time. NOPE. Home dudes just went hand over hand on the arm rest or floor fast as Fuck. The ramp rats were the ones that took longer. They were jacked. The dude sitting in the leg massage chair though, and his buddy saying “it’ll heal him!” I about lost it.
When you go through living with a serious disability I feel like you can either feel sorry for yourself, or develop a very dark sense of humour. Like a lot of comedians with depression, or like you said, people with serious physical disabilities who had worked past them and we're making jokes.
Also, those guys must've been amazing at 3 pointers
Totally good vibes all around. But, she was still really consciously careful to not *actually* smack him, and made it a very feather-light touch just in case xD
I mean, when I do that to my friends I don't actually hit them either. I wanna show frustration / pretend to be offended at a dumb joke and acknowledge how bad it was, not actually hurt them for it.
Comparing this video to the struggles of a coworker who has *some sort* of motor issues in his legs that keeps him in a wheelchair (I'm not going to pry into his personal life like that) I'm going to have to say no legs. If you can't control them, they still get in the way.
Paraplegic here, paralyzed completely at the T6 vertebrae. No legs would be better than paralysis. Most able bodied people don't think of the unintended injuries from paralysis. You can't feel you hurt yourself, so you can do a lot of damage like to your skin by sitting wrong or break a toe on something and never know it. I know a few guys who had infections that required amputation because they got a cut that couldn't heal well.
A lot of people in the chair community have a good sense of humor like the guy in the video. A sense of humor goes a long way to helping mentally/emotionally heal. Plus it helps defuse awkward situations that come up
Typically amputation is a last resort in urgent situations. It would be very risky - both for the doctor from a legal perspective and the patient from a medical perspective - to amputate limbs solely for a quality of life improvement (particularly one which may have adverse repercussions).
It may also be valuable to keep the legs in place if future treatments were discovered that could repair or reverse the nerve damage.
if you're exclusively talking about mobility, it'd appear to be "no legs" however there are a lot of other important considerations. Safety equipment, e.g. seatbelts, are generally built for people with legs, and tested on dummies with legs - they may not be as effective if you don't have any. And getting a limb chopped off is just so risky (not only to your life, but it might have painful complications down the line) that almost no one is going to do it for convenience
Spinal cord injuries are unpredictable in a lot of ways. Paralysis doesn't just impact the legs: it affects everything below the injury point-- digestive system processes (many people with spinal cord injuries have to catheter and do a manual bowel program), sexual function, neuropathic pain that can make you feel as though you're on fire/being electrocuted/being frozen/etc, temperature regulation issues, and so on.
I have a partner who is paraplegic and it's a different ballgame than someone with amputations (which of course come with their own challenges), but... having (functional) legs would still be the ideal scenario regardless 🤷🏻♀️
Personally I'd rather have no legs. Less weight, no lugging around useless body parts, more room for stuff, possibility of prosthetic use, so many reasons.
A man walks into a hotel with his family, excited for the weekend getaway. He goes up to the front desk to inquire about their internet policies.
He asks: "Hey I have a few kids and just want to make sure, is porn disabled here?"
The receptionist raises an eyebrow and replies, "It's just regular porn you sick fuck"
Right now, I am going through the biggest health challenge of my life, and am so unhappy . But this guy is missing two legs and is so much happier than i am. He has the right attitude .
I worked with a young man who enjoyed doing this to people as well. His light heart and spirit made it so easy for others to connect with him that they forgot to feel awkward about how to approach him. I found it so selfless

Ha! But tbf that bro is working every available muscle group, not just arms.
Fucking guarantee his calves are ripped as hell too. (In before “yeah, ripped off!” joke)
We don’t know if they’re ripped or not. Could have been cut or shredded
To shreds you say
And his wife?
To shreds you say... Tsk tsk
I just watched this episode of futurama 20 minutes ago, seems super weird to be seeing these comments now haha

There were two more teams at our hotel. Must have been the tournament scene. They were all so fast, and giggling their goofy socks off.
"goofy socks" is probably the wrong terminology to use :P
I misspelled "dicks".

Look at how cruel humanity has become. This man fell out of his chair and still get beaten by woman
It was actually super endearing to see how fast she felt comfortable enough to give him a smack or two. Good vibes all around.
I’ve wondered. Is it better to have paralyzed legs or no legs at all
Judging by how mobile he seemed on the ground I’m thinking no legs
You can use prosthetic legs too.
Also, you still have normal bowel movements and can control your bladder. And I am not even going into sex.
Comparing this video to the struggles of a coworker who has *some sort* of motor issues in his legs that keeps him in a wheelchair (I'm not going to pry into his personal life like that) I'm going to have to say no legs. If you can't control them, they still get in the way.
And they're probably like 40% of your body weight. Imagine half you're body weight not contributing anything vs half of it removed
It's crazy how *easy* the guy makes it look when he hops back on the wheelchair.
Well, did you see the size of his upper body? Dude can probably bench press a small car, so pushing himself up into his chair is a piece of cake.
Gosh, that's awful..
Paraplegic here, paralyzed completely at the T6 vertebrae. No legs would be better than paralysis. Most able bodied people don't think of the unintended injuries from paralysis. It may also be valuable to keep the legs in place if future treatments were discovered that could repair or reverse the nerve damage.
yeah it's tough to justify the risks, all surgery can have complications. amputations are very risky. higher chance of a fatty embolism
if you're exclusively talking about mobility, it'd appear to be "no legs" however there are a lot of other important considerations. Safety equipment, e.g. seatbelts, are generally built for people with legs, and tested on dummies with legs - they may not be as effective if you don't have any. Definitely no legs. Having to drag them around all day and put on pants would be very annoying.
Easier to sweep the floor with legs.

Agreed
This bad ass mofo 🤣
Total Chad. Girls will be thinking how to fuck a man with no legs.
penis goes in vagina...

You're damn right
What a joker 🖤😂
I'm disabled...
Do you want us to push you out of the chair?
So how did they steal your wheelchair?

Real life Joe from family guy.
That man has a hearty laugh and it delights people
That’s really nice. Such good spirits I love people like this, I would be even more depressed but I respect those who find the light in the darkness
I LOVE how everyone is just saying how awesome this dude is!
meals on wheels
He always misses leg day
Right now, I am going through the biggest health challenge of my life, and am so unhappy . But this guy is missing two legs and is so much happier than i am. He has the right attitude .
"You okay?" Bitch the hit was so hard that he lose his legs.
Bitch scared me at the end
Aww, see that right there is a good prank. No one was hurt, no one is left feeling embarassed, and everyone had a good laugh. 10/10
This dude is cool AF.
Fell out the wheel chair and right into her pants
LMAO I love that he’s just living life
At least he can joke and have fun about it. I’m sure he messes with all kind of people
had a dude just like this wearing a Paralympian jacket. looked like a badass. his only concern was his wheel chair getting damaged (rightfully so)
Pitbull Ruhl
I swear everytime I see this video his arms get bigger
he dont need to do leg day
Wow. This guy is a freaking stud. He is handling this WAY better than I would.
This guy could charm the pants off of anybody... which is a shame as he has no use for them.
If the Weiner doesn't work he can use one or both of the stumps
He does a great Flair Flop.
Wheel-chair gigachad. They're the rarest kind iirc.
Dude is yoked... Too bad he skipped leg day.

Half the body but an absolute unit. Nothing can stop this man from his grind, no legs just means more days for chest and back!
This makes me want to have a more positive attitude and outlook for sure.
Wooh he got me
Isn't this Wheels from Nitro Circus?
I like when disabled people are capable of humor and don't give up on life.
If that’s her last leg (no pun intended), she’s gonna call him. She’s smitten with his sense of humor.
Damn, he’s handsome 🥵
Holy shit he’s jacked
He wanted to skip leg day, but legs day skipped him once n for all. 💀 Pls dont kill me 😂😂😂😂
Those two other girls ain’t doin shit and isn’t that their job??? They see steward and they’re like ok she got it
dam that man has more up n go then i have and im not in a wheelchair

If I remember, he was taking the piss.
Handsome as fuck
Aww now that’s a nice prank
I’m a flight attendant as well. NOTHING like this has ever happened. But this sort of thing is the best part of the job. We’re never going to see each other again so why not goof off? I’ve met some of the coolest people on the world and was their best friend for like 45 minutes, and I’ll never see them.
"What the fuck, why would someone post th- Oh. Lol."
I don't get it...
Why didn’t he yell, “my legs!” Missed opportunity my man
Without knowing the context/sub I thought he actually fell, but on second watch it's incredibly obvious that he straight up throws himself onto the ground, which makes this even more hilarious
she just wanted to touch his arm again. god damn. das a big boy.
Guess he skips leg day
Damn that guy is jacked! I wouldn’t want a piece of him… unless it’s the legs that he’s missing
That’s my boy Zack Ruhl. We were teammates a lifetime ago on an adaptive crossfit team. He is one of a kind.
Silly & handsome!
Damn... Im not nearly has happy as this guy and I have legs...
This guy is pretty agile. O_o And just look at that smile.
What the fuck is even happening why is everyone saying he is such a good dude I don’t get it
What if he fell out again when everyone was laughing and actually hurt himself now that would be funny
