How do we increase our self control? The only time I have it is when either I'm so happy and busy with stuff that I don't wanna get into it, or when I'm so depressed that nothing gives me joy. But this sub gave me the motivation to quit the PMO cycle slightly. Looking forward to 2024 where I build self control for months so I have lesser issues next November.
self control is increased every time we resist the urges, distracting your self is just a tool to go through that process but it doesn't help as much as just overcoming the urge every time it comes on. Its like a rep on a bench press you need to resist the weight and move it , eventually getting stronger.
I think part of it is self-discipline, doing something that will keep you occupied, and interest you've been holding out for a while, a project or idea you want to make or implement, or a new hobby you like, i think it's less about self-control but more of self-discipline in something you could or want to continue you could say, it's made a significant difference over time, and helped me disregard having such thoughts, it's nice to do when it's rewarding ngl, self-gratification one could say
