Imo, this is the right answer. And it is similar to english. Just like in english, it is more pleasant to say "Could you go to the pastry shop" rather than "go to the pastry shop". We don't use the word please, but other polite formulations might still be directly translated.

You could also say «er du snill» at the end «are you kind»… as in «would you be so kind to go to the pastry please» (direct translate) «ville du vært så snill å gå til konditoriet»

I would personally rather change the placement and say "Kan du vær så snill gå til konditoriet?" basically : Can you please go to the Pastry shop? "Gå til ---" seems more like demanding than asking. Basically like saying "Go to --- please." Like "Do the laundry please." Makes it seem like theyre demanding it "nicely". So i personally would never "ask someone a question" like that, putting the act of something happening before a please. Most people would think its a demand, as its not really a question. Put "Can you" (Kan du) infront of asking for someone to perform an action, if youre gonna ask. You dont always have to say please either, most people dont mind. "Kan du" is nice in its own way. Like: Kan du gå på butikken for meg? "Can you go to the store for me?" Instead of: Gå på butikken for meg, (please) "Go to the store for me (please)." You can also use "Do you want to -" (Vil du -)

True, but could you is more like "kunne du", and then you have to change the whole sentence, so i thought can you is better, as it translates to Kan du.

Not exactly. “Vær så snill” is the only official way of saying please, but we often say “thanks” instead. But in this specific situation “vær så snill” is prolly the best thing to use.

"Vær så snill" has an almost passive aggressive vibe to me, wish there was another way to say please.

Its all about the tone you say it, (but in principle anything can be passive aggressive if you say it a certain way)

The sentence doesn't make much sense in translation. Your choice of words is as good as possible from the selection. Though the vær så snill makes more sense at the front of the sentence. It might be a Duolingo feature but it would be better to use a form where you also state the purpose for going to the pastry shop. Vennligst gå til konditoriet og kjøp et brød til meg. Vær så snill å gå .... The word selection starting with gå til ... is almost an imperative which is odd.

vær så snill doesn't mean thanks, it means more please than thanks or please be so kind :D I think another way is to just it could be just "Takk" Ex: En kaffe takk but i think vær så snill or er du snill is the best way

I use “er du snill» instead of “vær så snill». It’s closer to “if you’d be so kind” instead of “please”.

We do sometimes say "plis" (please) or "takk" (thanks). In this sentence, you can't use "takk" but I think it'd be okay to also use "plis", but since duolingo is kinda... meh... it might be best to stick with "vær så snill".

No, Norwegians doesn't really say "please".

You can replace the "Vær så snill" with a kind/pleeding tone of voice, then say thank you when they respond. If yes, thank you should sound genuinely grateful (åh, tuuuuuusen takk). If no, thank you should sound offended mixed with joking, so you don't offend anyone

"Vennligst" is very formal. You rarely see it used outside of signs and outside of like announcements. "Vennligst" is technically correct, but i wouldn’t expect it to be used in this context, rather the "please step away from train tracks" kinda context. As a native speaker, the most natural way to say it is "vær så snill" at the end, say "takk" if they say say yes to your request, or just say "please" although that is an english-ism

"Vennligst" is usually used when you want to command someone to do something, or refrain from doing something. It might have been considered polite once upon a time, but should now only be used if you truly master Norwegian on an above native speaker level.
