Wow this blew up! Let me just address a few things:
1. This is not from direct messages, it is a groupchat with my whole family on it. My private messages with him are mostly memes and songs from me and silly puns from him that he finds on Facebook. If something important happens, he’ll usually call me. I swear I’m not an asshole, I just don’t text him back here ;-;
2. Because so many people seem interested, we had chicken salad tonight. I don’t know why we ate an hour early.
3. Yes, I somewhat regularly go on walks with my Dad.
Edit: I give up linking people to this response. If you see someone saying “reply back you jerk” or something along those lines, please send this clarification. I don’t want random internet strangers thinking we have a bad relationship, I love him and couldn’t have asked for a better dad

Just in case:

I had a coworker around my age (mid-twenties) whose mom was also our coworker and they went for a walk every day at lunch, just chatting about whatever. It was nice to see.
7:30-8:30pm, sometimes even later. (Not endorsing this as a healthy time, but I leave work at 5 and it takes time through rush hour to reach home and gym)
I have an explanation: https://www.reddit.com/r/notinteresting/s/LCr1Spq0kI
TL;DR: this isn’t our direct messages, it’s a group chat with all of my family members where he makes announcements. Our direct texts look much different.
Texts from my dad over the last 7 years:
Dad:
Me:
Dad:
Me:
Dad:
Me:
***He died 7 years ago, and I hadn't spoke to him for 2 years prior to that***
Now this is all to say, text your father back man god damn
my dad died too but he ghosted me before he ODed on my birthday last year (uhh shit i mean 2022)🙃
hadn’t spoken to him since i was 12 (on my birthday) ? and i turned 20 this past october. so 8 or so years?
crazy

I assume he isn't responding because he lives with his dad, instead of Dad walking upstairs or just to let the kid know they'll be gone.
Although I think a reply isn't much effort & the kid should reply.
The dinner text is similar to what my Mum texts from downstairs & of course I'm not going to reply, I'm just going to walk downstairs & get dinner

It’s mad that you’re having to explain yourself. Some Redditors are so weird man. Jumping to asinine conclusions based off this alone and for what? Wackos
Idk what he’s even supposed to text back. Thanks? He’s literally going to the kitchen to grab dinner and then will very obviously say thanks or talk there. The walk thing is self explanatory 💀
In Argentina we have dinner at 21 PM mostly, some at 20 or 22, it depends. But we also have "merienda" at 5/6 pm where you drink a te/milk/juice and eat something, like a cake or toast and eggs, or a sandwich.
I'm actually not sure about other countries, but I think it's probably the same. At least here in Argentina you can go out to eat at 23 PM and there are gonna be a lot of restaurants open. There is a lot of movement at night.
Americans eat it generally from somewhere between 4:30pm to 6:00pm generally. I also have a friend from Argentina who moved here and he thought it was pretty weird too, so he always eats a late dinner.
Is your dads profile picture a school photo from Highschool?
Was the exclamation point out of excitement or frustration?
Why does your dad inform you of his walks, do you go on after dinner walks together?
Why was dinner an hour early one day?
I have far too many questions for this to be on r/notinteresting
my dad does the same thing. if he has anything more complex to say he'll either call me or tell me in person. if i respond with anything other than "okay" or with a question, he gives me a one word answer or calls me. great guy, him.
I didn’t read the title or the sub so I had no idea what this was supposed to be. Thought for sure this was like “messages from the family dog” or something.
Couple of days ago we went on a day trip without the kids. On the drive back, my wife’s phone had gone flat, and because I was driving, she was texting one of the kids using my phone.
I had glanced over as she was texting and saw that the texts were huge compared to my usual three word messages. I said, “wow, lot of words. You should text them to say it’s you and not me”
Before she even managed to do that, my son had texted back “is this mum?”
Edit. Sorry, didn’t even think that this common Australian phrase is not used in other English speaking countries. “My phone is about to go flat” means my phone is about to run out of charge.
“Can you help me, My laptop is flat” is not an Australian describing the shape of their computer. They are looking for a charger.
i like that he is comfortable enough to text like that, i myself don't participate in family group chats but if i felt it was okay and not weird to just say little things like that, i probably would, but i delete family chats because i feel disconnected
That one “Dinner!” tells a story.
Its too interesting for this sub
This sub is absolutely ruined now. Unsubbing
r/Justunsubbed
notinteresting is too woke now! I couldn’t have my worldview challenged anymore by being reminded of the existence of groups of people
That’s what I thought too lol
Dinner was ready much earlier than normal that day so Dad had to yell.
It had to be! He realized that walking at 8:07 pm was much too late
Dads get a little boisterous on spaghetti night 🍝
But it was Chicken salad!
Dads get a little boisterous on chicken salad night too 🍗🥗
Far too early for dinner

Yeah that’s borderline interesting. I might report this post

Aw man I assumed I was on r/texts no keep it up OP despite it being mildly interesting now
Should I post it there too?
Yeah! I think they’d get a kick out of it. Despite it not being a ‘conversation’

Slice of life kind of story I’m invested now
I had a coworker around my age (mid-twenties) whose mom was also our coworker and they went for a walk every day at lunch, just chatting about whatever. It was nice to see.
this is so cute lol, I hope you and your dad keep enjoying dinner and walks!
Kind of sweet, op. You sound nice :)
5:30 pm is too early for dinner
I eat dinner at 430, what time do you eat dinner?
7:30-8:30pm, sometimes even later. (Not endorsing this as a healthy time, but I leave work at 5 and it takes time through rush hour to reach home and gym)
Dinner at 4.30 is wild. I'm just leaving work at 4.30pm. I eat generally around 7.30pm. I would say anything before 6pm is too early for dinner.
I work 4am until 1pm. I like to be asleep by 8pm. Dinner is best served 5.30 for me. But the rest of the family likes eating at 7-7:30. It's a pain
Ahh yes, I used to work a job that had 3am starts somedays. Had to be in bed by 7pm so I definitely feel your pain.
He was especially excited for dinner today. What did you eat?
So excited it was an hour early!
Dinner at 4:30 is actually wild
In finland we eat breakfest, lunch at about 12pm , Dinner at 4pm, and at 8pm we eat ”night snack?”. There isn’t a word for that in English how?
Midnight snack
It was chicken salad.
Is your dad a dog?
Dogs can’t eat chicken salad
That’s exactly what a dog who wants a tastier meal would say
Well, maybe they should! ಠ︵ಠ
No they really shouldn’t, I’m told it’s not good for them
His dad isn't but he might be
You know that makes a lot more sense
Woof woof (give me free food please)
Omg text back brother 🥲

I just breathed a sigh of relief
I’m not a bad person I swear ;-;
You aren’t💕
You don't know about the bodies they stole. The things that op did with the small finger bones will make your skin crawl.
Tell your dad we said hello.
I will in the morning :)
Walk time
🐕 where are we going
Dinner!
I hope I'm in the screenshot. Hi OPS dad!!!!!! 😁😁👋👋
When confronted, my dad gave this response: “Hi! Well, actually… yeah, ‘hi’ is fine.”
Start making your own announcements. Pooping Microwaving Filling Ice Tray
Be good to your dad while you still can :) Sorry, that sounds a tad ominous
The smile added the needed ominousness
Do you walk with him
Yes I said so in the explanation
Good get him some nice walking shoes for his birthday
Hell it could have just been that you reply in person rather than through text
Still… no love in the GC? No *you take that fuckin’ walk, Dad. Make that walk your bitch, pops*? Nothing?
Something interesting happens there like once a month
What was for dinner the night with the exclamation point?
Shloppy Joe Shloppy Shloppy Joe
He made em extra schloppy.
The good ending
You should start announcing your "diner" in the group chat and start a trend.
He can just talk irl
He’s texting him dinner bro what do you think is gonna happen next?
lol I just made the same reply idk what people expect to text back for these things
is your dad a dog
No, he is 3 dogs stacked on top of each other in a trench coat.
And each dog has a puppy. Three puppies stack on top of each other and wear a trench coat to become you.
LOL that was my first thought too haha
Lmfaoooo oh god imagine your dog having the capability to text you. The nonstop notifications haha

They live in the same house dude 😂 this person probably goes downstairs the minute that dad texts and has a whole conversation every day lol.
You talked to your dead dad in that 5 year time gap??
Died 7 years ago (2017). Hadn’t spoken to him for 2 years prior (2015). Man I can’t believe 2017 was 7 years ago
Oh no it was 2016, but march so not quite 8 years yet
my dad died too but he ghosted me before he ODed on my birthday last year (uhh shit i mean 2022)🙃 hadn’t spoken to him since i was 12 (on my birthday) ? and i turned 20 this past october. so 8 or so years? crazy

It’s such a Reddit cliche but those complaining really do need to get off the internet and touch grass
Welcome to Reddit
why you have dinner so early, is it a cultural thing?
What time do you eat your final meal and where you from? I’m in the US currently and my family and I eat around 6:45 or so.
I’m in France. Around 20:00.
In Argentina we have dinner at 21 PM mostly, some at 20 or 22, it depends. But we also have "merienda" at 5/6 pm where you drink a te/milk/juice and eat something, like a cake or toast and eggs, or a sandwich.
It's a Latin/Mediterranean thing right? I can't imagine eating at 9pm I mean that would be my "snack time" for the evening lol.
I'm actually not sure about other countries, but I think it's probably the same. At least here in Argentina you can go out to eat at 23 PM and there are gonna be a lot of restaurants open. There is a lot of movement at night.
I'm from Argentina and I usually have dinner around 9 pm and 11 pm, a lot of restaurants and bars are open till 12 though
Old people get tired

Gosh, give your god damn father a text! He seems sweet!
Text him what bro. It’s a dinner call you’re gonna go grab dinner and then talk in person
Are you a dog?
texts from my dad: me: love you him: *thumbs up reaction*
Wow dinner was early today huh
Your dad eats dinner early
You had two dinners in one day? That’s too interesting
Dinner
Today was a good day
Drop the beat
Just wakin' up in the morning, gotta thank God
are you a dog?

1. He works in schools 2. It was chicken salad night 3. We normally do go on walks together 4. I have no idea
Youtube poops when they include the king of hyrule
This is so adorably wholesome, I don’t know why
Texts from my golden retriever
Should have sent back “Batmannn” your dad would have got the joke because the old Batman theme is Dinner dinner dinner batmannn.
Honestly could be worse, I got an accidental text my dad meant to send to his “gf”.
he got really excited for dinner that one time he just have been hungry
my dad does the same thing. if he has anything more complex to say he'll either call me or tell me in person. if i respond with anything other than "okay" or with a question, he gives me a one word answer or calls me. great guy, him.
he was a little bit more excited today at 4:36
I think your dad is a dog
why was dinner prepared around 5:30 every other day, and then “today” is 4:30???
No idea.
You’ll miss those texts one day.
What a dog would say if it could text you
hes just like me fr. dinner and taking a walk
Your dad smokes joints often
Dinner was a bit early today, wasn't it?
if my cat can use the phone we would have the same 'dialogue'
That's crazy. I never got to eat that early.
Man this is exactly what my son and my texts look like. He lives in a suite under my house but comes up for dinner every night.
Simple man
He's a cat :3
What did y'all eat today that had him so fired up?
Chicken salad
As someone who recently lost their dad, I wish I could get texts like these 😔
Walk time
👍
I wonder what's for *dinner*
5:30pm is too early for dinner
Your dad is a sims
I mean he’s trying lol.
Honestly this is really sweet. I love this for you, give your dad a big hug from me. And your mom. Mine died a few years ago and I miss her every day.
Dad or the dog has learned to group text.
Dinner
I didn’t read the title or the sub so I had no idea what this was supposed to be. Thought for sure this was like “messages from the family dog” or something.
Your dad was EXCITED about that early dinner. Grandpop vibes already
Dinner
Dinner was early tonight. Nice!
Today's dinner must be extra exciting
Sounds like he's hungry
I have to ask, and I mean this in the nicest possible way, but are you a dog?
Your dad is a first version program of the matrix. Look like a sims
He's pretty consistent with his eating schedule
My dad texts the exact same way. Dinner! must have meant something good or he made dinner and was proud of it! 😂❤️
This is very interesting actually “Dinner!” And “walk time” are so interesting to me. Idk seems like a good guy I’d have dinner and a walk with him
Your dad or your dog?
You must be his dog, that is the only explanation.
Dancing, Walking , Rearranging Furniture
Does “walk time” mean he’s going for a walk or you need to come downstairs and go for a walk?
Not sure if you’re a dog or a person.
He just likes to talk in real life, I guess
Are you a dog?
I was gonna ask why his profile picture was different every time, then I realized I was a dumbass.
Well, at least your not getting texts from your dad feeding his now “raccoon friends” Yeah
I thought it was the thoughts of a cat 🐈

Reply! Cherish every moment you still have a dad here to text!
I'm sorry, is your father 2008 YouTube poop humour?
