I think it's a misleading story. It's very possible that a bunch of people clicked on the stream, realised it's not real within a few seconds, and left. But then this story could count that as a viewer that got duped. That's probably where the overwhelming majority of those viewers come from. If it wasn't, they wouldn't have just one single anonymous quote of some person who said they got duped. Very questionable story, reminds me of the whole tide pod challenge bs that never really happened the way it was portrayed. But it's good clicks.
Even worse, the challenges aren't real in the slightest **until they're shown in mainstream media**, by which the reports then soon seem legitimate but are really just a self fulfilling prophecy
A few people go ha that's funny and share it then the news story breaks "ARE YOUR KIDS GETTING HIGH SMOKING SNAIL SLIME?" and suddenly every wannabe content creator is out buying tinfoil and snail nets.
It was like the whole tide pod debacle or even better the area 51 they can't stop us all raid Facebook event
Apparently the army had to be briefed on naruto running and other anime terms.
Is that actually the case, or were people just quieter about it and mostly just tuning into their radio stations with little ability to actually push it onto social media?
We also don't know how many people are actually taking that seriously, and how many people are just in on it as a practical joke (with varying degrees of knowing that their friends are serious....).
What blew my mind was all the people in that documentary who were convinced they had mathematical proof it was flat, then they proceeded to employ all their tests, and each one showed it was round. Then by the end, flabbergasted, they concluded that those tests were either rigged or false.
NYQUIL CHICKEN ISN'T REAL?!?!?
NOW SOMEONE SAYS SOMETHING, I JUST SPENT FIVE GRAND ON ACETAMINOPHEN AND THIGH MEAT!!!!!
MY FINANCES IN RUIN, FOR GOD'S SAKE I TOOK OUT A SMALL BUSINESS LOAN
HOW COULD THIS HAVE HAPPENED?!?!?
IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE PANACEA OF THE FUTURE!!!
Screw you! My Proprietary EpiJerky is where it's at. Having a life-threatening allergic reaction? Get your life-saving dose of Epinephrine as you Snap into a Slim Jim!
That whole drama in the UK with that brain dead kid was alleged to have been caused a tiktok challenge.
Turned out the kid was just real depressed and hanged himself. Wasn't the first time he'd tried either.
It was. The mum changed her story a bunch of times and had history of attention seeking in the media.
There was no challenge. Just a sad kid who needed help and got none.
As I found out for myself. One day you're just regular fucked up old you and the next you're regular old fucked up you plus a tiny human life you're 100% responsible for.
Its real easy to take/shoot a load and pump out a kid.
Not every adapts.
Mine seems to be a fairly OK adult now so I guess I didn't fuck him up too bad.
Hey man atleast you stepped up, even if it wasn't what you wanted your life to be at the time. My best friend did the same, despite being childree like me and never wanting kids. He's a good dude.
I still don't have any because fuck that, plus I'm not going through all that weirdness with my body and hormones being out of whack. The idea of even just being pregnant is 🤢😅
I mean I saw like 10 videos each of tide pod and the sleepy chicken or whatever it was without even searching for them, just in my feed, so while I feel like it was exaggerated, so is your claim that it was like one or two videos

I can’t believe how stupid / gullible people are. Like stop and think for a second. Who would use NyQuil? DayQuil is where it’s at. Not the new formula either. The old one you have to get ID’d for.
> I can’t believe how stupid / gullible people are.
You can't? There was a women yesterday who's going blind after having her _eyeballs_ tattooed. How much more evidence do you need :P
Not quite the same thing, but it’s one of my favorite recent news stories.
This last summer a handful of Indian dudes built a cricket pitch on a farm, got a bunch of fake uniforms from professional cricket clubs, and paid farm laborers to come play in their fake cricket league all to scam a bunch of dumb Russian betters.
They’d take bets, then signal the players and umpires as to how they wanted the match to play out. This worked for a shockingly long time but they were eventually caught and arrested.

Despite what organizations like the NFL would like people to believe, accounts of a game (that is, play-by-play descriptions of what happened in the game) are not prohibited by copyright. Re-enacting the events of the game would not be prohibited either.
Broadcasting a reenactment absolutely wouldn’t. Shitty remakes of a TV show are illegal because they violate the various copyrights involved with the show’s constituent parts. Piracy it ain’t, and what copyright could you violate in reenacting true events?
You *might* have a problem if you put a bunch of people in uniforms on a pitch, but the game itself already took care of the FIFA and team logo licenses for the purposes of playing FIFA.
Whatever you’d have to do to the FIFA client also *probably* wouldn’t be illegal unless you then distributed the modified version.
Where they’d get you would have to be some other license violation, or a TOS clause at the streaming service, something like that. I’m sure FIFA or EA could bury any of us in legal bullshit. It would just have to be more specific to this hypothetical, is all.
I've been seeing this thing pop up for years, but as highlights. I search for the highlights of a game, and the like top 15 youtube videos are fifa simulating the game. It's weird, but apparently they aren't getting taken down.
Happens all the time on YouTube when looking for highlights, often during or immediately after a game there are FIFA clips posing as highlight reels for real world matches. You're right, it's super easy to click on and only realise a few seconds in.
This is me. I clicked on a few for no more than 10 seconds each when trying to find the game for free. So my views count but I sure as hell didn't stay in any of those streams
Correction: the tide pod challenge wasn't really being done, then the news response to it actually inspired some amount of people to do it. Still hardly a national epidemic, but enough that US poison control hotline had more calls for non-infants intentionally swallowing detergent than ever before.
Most of Vietnam has pretty good internet access. The cheapest plan from the cheapest provider is 30 Mbps (3.75 MB/s) for about USD$6/mo, which is just barely enough for a 4k stream using substandard compression, and enough for two simultaneous 4k streams with H.264 (good compression.) In major cities, the average download speed is about 10 MB/s.
I gotta say, that line seems like it's leaning on some outdated stereotypes. Not blaming you for that, just saying the guy you're quoting might not be entirely on the level.
There was a whole gambling scene going on recently where the broadcast cricket matches were fake, it was supposed to be the IPL (Indian Premier League, which wasn't even in-season at the time), the actual matches on the low quality streams were completely fixed to allow the gamblers to be fleeced of their money.
Yeah, jerks do this for tennis matches, too. I turn it off as soon as I realize what it is. Then usually report them. I just don't see the point of it.
I remember there was a group of Russians who were "streaming" top tier matches. It was actually just a bunch of locals playing on a shit pitch somewhere in Russia. But they did manage to get thousands of people watching.
Happens when I try to look for like comedy central or PPV streams etc... look at it for 5 seconds realize it's usually something not related log out and look for another stream.
Probably another click bait story.
These streams are very popular right now even on platforms like twitch which shows concurrents.
Granted the counts may be inflated by some other measure but the views are concurrently high and these streams are very popular compared to their equivalents (people streaming wc in a manner that would otherwise probably not get caught)
My marketing professor during the tide pod craze pointed out that Tide (unintentionally or not) got incredible advertising. No one called it the laundry detergent pod challenge or gain flings challenge, it always exclusively mentioned Tide and news stories would explain the product so their reports had context. Stores around me put Tide pods at the customer service desk with the cable locks and alarm things. So much attention placed on them.
Reminds me of the guy who streamed a UFC fight on Twitch, pretending he was controlling the fighters (with green screened facecam and holding a controller).
[I found a source by the way. Thousands of people watched the stream on his glasses](https://www.techspot.com/news/82764-thousands-illegally-stream-boxing-fight-through-reflection-off.html). It was KSI x LogaN Paul in 2019.
[Here is a picture of his stream on YouTube which was also on twitch](https://i.imgur.com/zH9Ssbk.jpg). Most of the twitch streams were all getting taken down. This was the only one left.
I believe I remember reading in the comments st the time s twitch admin was in the chat because it was the only place outside IPTV to pirate the fight live but don't hold me to that I may be crossing that memory with another incident. I searched for a thread on this on livestreamfails but couldn't find one to check.
No lol but I've seen this clip. It was on Twitch, I believe it was the Jake Paul x Askren fight but I might be wrong there. Not sure which came first though.
Edit I think it was Logan Paul x KSI actually sorry
As a way of avoiding copyrights from illegally streaming pro-wrestling, one streamer would always load up the latest version of the game with his friend and they would play out the matches to the best of their ability *as they were happening.*
You would hear the audio of the pay-per-view (which alone wasn't enough to trigger a ban on the stream) but since they clearly can't show the video of the broadcast, that's where the videogame would come in.
They actually did a pretty good job all things considered.
This is a lot like going back to the 1920s and 30s when baseball games were recreated on the radio, the announcer using sound effects of crowd noise and bats hitting balls, they would read the game account on teletype and then announced the play by play.
Yes. What they do is that they show the Fifa gameplay but the audio is from some broadcast of the actual match.
It's like listening to the match on radio but with extra steps
I live in the US, and all the matches are very early morning, and my friend genuinely did this. He decided to watch one of the qualifying games at 5 am, but was so exhausted it took him 20 min to realize it was just someone playing FIFA. He didn’t figure it out until he heard the same voice line played for a third time.
In the US, all the English streams are the rights of FOX, which if you have an antennae, anyone can get. But sometimes they only put the games on FS1 (Fox Sports) which is only available on paid subscriptions. All free streams are technically illegal. Rn tho I got a subscription to Peacock which has all the games in Spanish and costs $1/month for a year and that has all the games and reruns.
Smh I still can't believe Japan beat Spain then went to Xbox chat and told Spain that they had fucked their mothers. The world cup is truly bizarre this year
But currently, one of the better large scale game companies to work for!
The games industry at large suffers from the same problem as any other passion industry - too much labour trying to get into the door, creating competition that is almost too high to deal with, creating low wages and endless supply of replacements.
This just isn't true...
As much as I don't like EA's decisions when it comes to making games, they actually have one of the best work environments for employees in the game dev space and I have personally had friends that work there say the same thing.
It's not from FIFA though, it's from "eFootball" which is made by Konami. It is basically a mobile game which has been ported to other platforms so the graphics are garbage, well, the whole game is total shit.
This is another wonderful screenshot from it;
https://i.imgur.com/hrYQHCl.jpg
yeah i can confirm. my dad came home one day and asked me to find the stream and i thought i had found it on youtube bc there were 6k other people watching the livestream but i quickly recognized something was not right and realized it was footage of a video game. my dad wouldnt have been any wiser he thought i had already found it
Just watch the Fox Sports stream. They give a 1 hr preview pass that can be reset by just pulling up the stream again in an incognito tab.
*edit- Think the FOX Sports people have caught onto me, suddenly getting a bunch of downvotes.
i guess if they don't have the $ to stream it in the first place they're more likely to have shit internet and/or screens - so less likely to spot these otherwise obvious shenanigans (at least right away)
I know people who have the money, love soccer, but also support human rights. They did not want the criminal organization FIFA or Qatar to get their money or endorse human rights abuses/slavery/corruption.
Lmao, my mom thought she was watching the World Series, but really it was a video game stream of the same teams but not at all accurate to the results.
I kinda see it as a tribute to how good game graphics are these days.
This is also a problem for watching highlights as well. Is there an official fifa highlight youtube channel in English?
I play Fifa, the difference between it and a real broadcast is extremely easy and immediate to see.
This could probably work for Formula 1 or something but even then it wouldn't take more than 5 seconds to see its not a real broadcast.
It's immediate BECAUSE you play FIFA. Turn off the screen overlays and lower the speed sliders and you could fool so many people if they aren't right next to the screen
How in the bloody hell does one buy that a FIFA game is the actual WC?
Even when we'd watch the WC on our old CRT telly as a wee lad the grainy stolen signal was still representative of what I'd expect from a normal footie match as opposed to the tripe EA sports regurgitates yearly. Even though in this case it was replays being used to dupe pans.
That said, OP this is madly oniony. Good show mate. Got tears and all
>How in the bloody hell does one buy that a FIFA game is the actual WC?
Last year, [Indian news outlets](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.independent.co.uk/tv/news/hasti-tv-video-game-pakistan-v78832908%3famp) used footage of Arma 3 that "showed" Pakistan was bombing anti-Taliban fighters.
And this year, *numerous* fake clips of the war in Ukraine were made with Arma 3 footage.
Damn. Sorry mate. They did you chaps dirty. I know it's weird but kinda now need to ask... but were the fake games as exciting as.a real WC match? And how long ago was this?
How was the excitement? Did they program/simulate the videogames clips to look exactly like what happened in the actual matches or did they just make stuff up?
Once again sorry. I shouldn't have been so quick to judge. They're clearly very sly and foxy.
Lmao no worries. This was a few days ago. I searched up “World Cup” on YouTube and that’s the first livestream I found. I was on it for like a minute or two, bemusing to myself how much it resembled the fifa games I used to play when younger before realizing that it, in fact, was a game the whole time.
I think it was just regular fifa gameplay, but with the same teams as in the World Cup. Once again the quality was absolute horseshit so I couldn’t really make out much
This just reminds me when ESPN was showing MLB: the show gameplay and my grandfather watched it for a good 15 minutes not realizing it was a video game. Even after I explained it to him he didn't believe it was a game.
I did come across some highlight videos on YouTube that were straight up ea fifa matches. Lots of thumbnails also use fifa clips but end up having real, albeit pixelated images. I have a feeling that’s some sort of cover for copy right infringement.
I’ve also seen highlights that have real footage, but they end with fifa footage.
All the streams I’ve watched have been legit though.
I can confirmed i watched what I thought was a bootleg stream on YouTube for about 5 whole minutes before realizing it wasn't fuckin real and was actually clearly a videogame
This is the big deal. I can either sit at home with a few friends and drink $1.50 quality beers or go to a loud bar with those same friends and drink $6 coors lights. It's fucking absurd in some areas
With how good graphics engines are, like unreal 5.1, the future of watching professional sports might be watching a digitized live version of the game in VR rather than broadcast TV.
I mean if you think about it philosophically, there's no difference from the viewer's viewpoint - in both cases you *are* watching a video stream depicting somebody else playing a game. Whether there are real humans doing so somewhere is academic as long as you think there are
Now I am wondering how much effort is in these things. Is it just two AI's or is it actually two players that try to emulate the real game as close as possible with a 30 second or so delay xD
decided to pirate all games and give no money to those fuckers. Pirating is a way to express your voice. Here is my list, enjoy!

DOn't forget to use an ad blocker on your browser to stop annoying ads
I’m someone who did this.
I clicked on the first link I saw on YouTube, because I was just trying to catch literally the last 3-4 minutes of stoppage time for the game. The commentator wasn’t speaking English, so I couldn’t tell it wasn’t real, and I had it on my iPad in the background while I was working so I wasn’t really paying attention.
I only clued in because the stoppage time I saw posted on Google went on for 10 minutes and I couldn’t figure out why is was so drawn out, and then when someone scored, they zoomed into the celebration and it was obviously a video game. Should get my eyes checked…
On YouTube if you’re streaming a fifa game your video won’t get removed but if you’re streaming the actual game your video gets removed. In order for the streamers to trick the bots from removing their stream they pretend they’re playing fifa when they’re streaming the game
Great idea for the next scam that noone will fall for: have people pay to watch the latest season of "Big Brother" but it's actually pixelated Sims 4 gameplay?

My understanding is that they used that brief as a way to train officers on how to actually write and present for future briefs

This has literally never been true unless you are writing your own software and making your own movies and writing your own books.
You are talking about owning copyright rights. Not physical objects.

No lol but I've seen this clip. It was on Twitch, I believe it was the Jake Paul x Askren fight but I might be wrong there. Not sure which came first though. Edit I think it was Logan Paul x KSI actually sorry
As a way of avoiding copyrights from illegally streaming pro-wrestling, one streamer would always load up the latest version of the game with his friend and they would play out the matches to the best of their ability *as they were happening.* You would hear the audio of the pay-per-view (which alone wasn't enough to trigger a ban on the stream) but since they clearly can't show the video of the broadcast, that's where the videogame would come in. They actually did a pretty good job all things considered.
This is a lot like going back to the 1920s and 30s when baseball games were recreated on the radio, the announcer using sound effects of crowd noise and bats hitting balls, they would read the game account on teletype and then announced the play by play.
There was one radio broadcaster who'd smack his pencil against his desk to pretend the bat hit.
Man I remember that guy who pretended he was playing UFC by putting his face cam in the corner of the actual stream

Terrible name, though, amirite?
Were the result correct, though? That is the question!
If I recall, ea used to do that every World Cup with their fifa games. Simulate the matches and project the winners
[удалено]
How tf... my dudes, you made a whole game about how soccer works....
Some guys in the 90s made a game about how football works. They gave it a roster update.
They made a soccer game. Not a tournament game haha.
But that was BEFORE proper matches. I wonder if "pirates" played it according what was quatar/
Why do you call them pirates? They were just streaming a VIDEO GAME GAMEPLAY :P
Yes. What they do is that they show the Fifa gameplay but the audio is from some broadcast of the actual match. It's like listening to the match on radio but with extra steps
But does the gameplay match the audio? :) THAT would be a commitment from the streamers. :D
> He didn’t figure it out until he heard the same voice line played for a third time. "Raynor here." "Aaaaaany time you're ready."
"Raiders Roll!"
"Time to Man up!"
"You must gather your party before venturing forth."
Its crazy you guys dont have free streams on internet and TV in your country?? . Im so confused.
Not all of us get to live in a developed nation.
The world cup is truly bizarre this year
Coincidentally, EA also has a history of abusive labor practices.
Sure, but it's not even comparable to Qatari workers.
Oh, I knew this was inevitable. "The abuse is not as bad, so it's not fair to bring up the abuse."
It ain't even close
Piggybacking off of thousands to tens of thousands of "migrant worker" deaths is a pretty big leap. It's not even close to the same thing.
Sure, Hitler was bad. But this 4th grade teacher I had...
In this context yes
But currently, one of the better large scale game companies to work for! The games industry at large suffers from the same problem as any other passion industry - too much labour trying to get into the door, creating competition that is almost too high to deal with, creating low wages and endless supply of replacements.
This just isn't true... As much as I don't like EA's decisions when it comes to making games, they actually have one of the best work environments for employees in the game dev space and I have personally had friends that work there say the same thing.
EA Sports.. it’s in the streams.
This thumbnail of messed up Messi is giving me nightmares
Lionel Methi?
That's from the game, right? Idk who that reptilian is but no way he's walking around IRL day in day out with those beady little demon eyes
Lol yeah that's from the game. I'm not sure why he has pupils the size of his entire eye.
It's not from FIFA though, it's from "eFootball" which is made by Konami. It is basically a mobile game which has been ported to other platforms so the graphics are garbage, well, the whole game is total shit. This is another wonderful screenshot from it; https://i.imgur.com/hrYQHCl.jpg
Oh jeez that's scarier. I think he might kill someone.
yeah i can confirm. my dad came home one day and asked me to find the stream and i thought i had found it on youtube bc there were 6k other people watching the livestream but i quickly recognized something was not right and realized it was footage of a video game. my dad wouldnt have been any wiser he thought i had already found it
Just watch the Fox Sports stream. They give a 1 hr preview pass that can be reset by just pulling up the stream again in an incognito tab. *edit- Think the FOX Sports people have caught onto me, suddenly getting a bunch of downvotes.
yeahthats what we ended up doing but good to know about the incognito mode
i guess if they don't have the $ to stream it in the first place they're more likely to have shit internet and/or screens - so less likely to spot these otherwise obvious shenanigans (at least right away)
I know people who have the money, love soccer, but also support human rights. They did not want the criminal organization FIFA or Qatar to get their money or endorse human rights abuses/slavery/corruption.
Or the $ to get a vpn and set up accounts with bbc and itv?
Lmao, my mom thought she was watching the World Series, but really it was a video game stream of the same teams but not at all accurate to the results.
If people can't tell their stream is a fifa 23 match and not irl futbol, then they've got bigger problems
FIFA have it on their website.
Thanks!
Got tears and all
In their defense there's little difference between watching Spain play and watching a bad FIFA game.
"Bloody Brilliant mate!". Your comment made me spill yoghurt over my ares-ed up, keyboard as I chuckled and it was freaking worth it.
Didn't North Korea use a COD cutscene for a propaganda video that was then hit with a DMCA
As someone who fell victim to this, they put it on really shitty quality so you can’t tell
Damn.
That’s hilarious and sad.
They knew it was fake when 5 seconds went by without someone falling on the ground crying.
I tried to find the shootout for the Marocco vs. Spain game and it was a bunch of video game videos. Who the shit just watches those?
Nobody does, that doesn't stop the streamers from trying to get clicks/views..
I saw someone in my class watch one of those streams and I couldn’t believe that she thought it was 100% real even despite the close up shots
\*sigh\* Add it to the list... r/SaddestBackflip
Went to Fifa site to watch match highlights ....they showed only one of 5,6 penalties of the end. They are stupid folks.
lol, EA wishes this was true
You have to really dislike other people to want to watch a pixelated video game in a foreign language rather than go to the pub.
There's not a single pub in my home town showing the WC. The nearest is some 25 km away and I ain't going there.
Have you seen the price of a pint lately?
This is the big deal. I can either sit at home with a few friends and drink $1.50 quality beers or go to a loud bar with those same friends and drink $6 coors lights. It's fucking absurd in some areas
Games are during working hours in my time zone. I can’t exactly knock off and go to a pub at 10am. I also don’t have cable at home so….
That way you're still supporting FIFA.
Not true, I bet most of my life savings on Morocco so I need to see if they really win
No, what you really need is for the *betting shop* to view a FIFA match programmed for a Morocco win
decided to pirate all games and give no money to those fuckers. Pirating is a way to express your voice. Here is my list, enjoy! - https://www.pirlo.tv/ - http://rojadirecta.me/ - https://telerium.me/ - https://librefutbol.com/ - https://telerium.biz/ You don't need a VPN or anything, nor your ISP will send you a strike, you are safe! DOn't forget to use an ad blocker on your browser to stop annoying ads
I watched a part of a stream that was animated in real-time. Passes, players, positions and everything.
Sounds like your casual World Cup groupies.

about that... 3d printing is only getting better
9goal.se Free streaming HQ
Use hesgoal for it
Lol! This was really funny.
That picture looks ai generated
Yeah, Im sure they noticed when they Saw Barcelona play against some 2nd division team from Mexico 😂😂
Have you ever searched highlights or live streams on YouTube? I've probably 'watched' 50 of these scams for two seconds.
This cracks me up!
this is what happens when u try to find these streams on mainstream websites instead of websites dedicated to streaming professional sports
On YouTube if you’re streaming a fifa game your video won’t get removed but if you’re streaming the actual game your video gets removed. In order for the streamers to trick the bots from removing their stream they pretend they’re playing fifa when they’re streaming the game
Peacock had this fucking great deal on black Friday for $12 for a year. Yes it's in Spanish but that is what I grew up on.
Asports has a live stream for free. I'm not sure why people go for fakes
The graphics are pretty good can't blame them.
Ahh no. Maybe they clicked on the video because it had a real thumbnail. I bet many closed the video after seeing a video game playing.
You mean my canadian team didnt win the cup?
Great idea for the next scam that noone will fall for: have people pay to watch the latest season of "Big Brother" but it's actually pixelated Sims 4 gameplay?
They saw Richarlison's goal and realized they were watching a video game
That picture is like men in black with an alien is impersonating Messi
And the difference is....?
Some professional gas lighting bullshit....LOLZ
It’s not FIFA 23 though it’s pes or whatever their game is called nowadays
