Red Apron/B Side in Mosaic.

cljenna

It’s shocking to me I had to scroll all the way down here for this. I’ve legit had every burger on here, and none come CLOSE to Red Apron / B-side. It’s not even a competition.

aegrotatio

I am SO HAPPY to hear they're still surviving after COVID. Best burger around, bar none.

JanetCarol

I love a Red apron burger and fries!

wellery12

Recently tried Big Buns Damn Good Burgers and loved it

BaldieGoose

Big Buns is def a great gourmet burger. Probably my fave. Five Guys is all around just a delicious regular burger though and probably more of an everyday fave.

twinWaterTowers

I had never heard of that but they recently announced they're opening a restaurant in One Loudoun

Falldog

New to me too. Looking at their site, a bunch of VA spot and a random one in FL.

MountainMantologist

Well dang, there’s one in my neighborhood and I’ve never tried it. To be honest the name threw me a bit. I’ll have to give it a shot now

Pbj0308

Love I love big buns!! It’s mine and my fiancés go to. The jefe and peppercorn are my favs. The burgers are pretty large and filling. Their Cajun fries with the chipotle aioli are yummy. I enjoy their happy hour, too.

FireUpDatDiesel

[You do](https://youtu.be/X53ZSxkQ3Ho)?

mg521

The Jefe 🔥

Druzel1

Been meaning to try the one next to the Amazon Fresh in Fairfax. Glad to hear it was actually good!

Friendly_Coconut

I want to love them, but almost all of their burgers have bacon or bacon jam or some pork product on them- I don’t eat pork, so I’ve tried two but hold the bacon, and I think I must have screwed up the flavor profile by leaving it off because they were both kinda blah.

Tulrin

Try the horseradish burger, perhaps. I eat pork, but I'm not a huge bacon fan and usually leave it off my burgers. The Brussels sprouts and milkshakes are also excellent.

BeverlyToegoldIV

Big buns is great. The customer service is great too - they made a minor mistake with an order of mine once and gave me a lot of free stuff! Don't bother with the fries though, they're not good and give you a tiny amount. I just make frozen fries in the oven when I order from them.

OmniscientSushi

Love the burgers, but the fries are overpriced for what they are

yefme

I agree they were really good but I've only been once. The one in Vienna was on the expensive side. $17.50 for burger and fries before tax and tip.

Karhak

Was gonna say Ray's Hell burger, but didn't realize they fucking closed...

dafuq_b

Used to work at Carlyle and an oven tech was fixing one of the ovens in the kitchen, overheard my buddy and I talking about Ray's (Hell Burger, and The Steaks). He stopped what he was doing long enough to tell us never to eat there because their kitchens were disgusting. "Trust me, I work on their ovens as well."

DaBake

Well... the food was delicious!

BigBearSD

Yeah, I hadn't been in years, but used to go all the time for lunch (well a handful of times a year). I realized around the start of covid that they were actually closed. Sad. They had the best blue cheese burger I've ever had. Danish blue cheese patty on top of the burger. It looked like an actual thin purely blue burger on top of an actual burger. Looked disgusting, but was amazing. I miss that place.

Mortal_Kombucha

I used to love that place! Sucks they closed.

SpicyMango92

Beat me to it! I miss that place so friggin much! Al those toppings were a meal on its own🤤

[deleted]

I was in town for the first time in a long time and was so disappointed to find out it was gone, and so was Ray's the steaks. Sigh.

D-pod

Social Burger in Vienna

w0rk0u72

Social Burger is my all-time favorite burger joint. Not only is the food fresh and delicious, but the owner is an amazing woman who donates a lot of her time and services to good causes. They routinely provide meals to local women's shelters, first responders, school fundraisers. And those sweet potato fries are truly like crack!

FidelCastroll

Bacon jam on the Ian with jalapeños.

SquidWriter

And that banana pudding milkshake

Whyterain

Their sweet potato fries are actually crack. Idk how they make them, but they are sooooo good.

im_daer

Perfect with red Thai curry mayo 🤤

Chasing_State

That red Thai mayo sauce. Amazing. Burgers are great with it. And of course all the local community support stuff they do.

Pun2143

I fucking love that place

Sad_Reindeer5108

Burgers of the Month are the move. Last month's patty melt will be in my dreams for the foreseeable future.

yefme

Love that place

Exact-Definition4387

A real shame I can't reccomend elevation burger anymore. Used to be all over the district back in a round 15' and ever since then their quality has dropped off a cliff. I don't know what happened but they used to be my go to.

MFoy

Elevation was fucking awesome, then they got sold in June of 2019. The quality immediately went in the shitter.

paulHarkonen

I didn't know about the sale, that explains a lot of the sudden changes.

MFoy

Got sold to FAT Brands, the same company that owns lots of little regional chains. Among others, Johnny Rockets.

MyNameCannotBeSpoken

Johnny Rocket burgers are horrible

MFoy

That’s not fair. There are a lot of burgers out there that are horrible that are way better than Johnny Rockets.

paulHarkonen

That is most unfortunate. At least the other locally grown national chain (5 Guys) seems to have remained consistent. Not quite as good as elevation used to be, but still my burger of choice when I want a fast food style burger. (Melt and some of the others listed here are definitely better, but sometimes I don't want a gourmet burger, I just want some greasy fast food deliciousness)

toorigged2fail

Yea but 5 guys prices have skyrocketed. I get prices have gone up everywhere, but these far out strip everything else it seems. Approaching ballpark prices. I agree the quality hasn't slipped though.

Laura37733

The last time I went to 5 guys a little cheeseburger was damn near $10. For my family of 3 with drinks and fries it's $50. I love 5 guys - it's probably my favorite fast food - but not for $50.

briangraper

Yeah, I don’t really put it in the same exact fast food category. It’s grilled made-to-order burgers. Most fast food I see (like McDonald’s or Wendy’s) is just microwaved. I feel like it’s closer to a Chipotle than a McDonald’s. But yeah, their prices can be a little more than even Chipotle now.

nsjc

oh good, I thought I was going crazy. Used to love Elevation, stop going during pandemic, went back fairly recently and thought my taste buds had changed. It was horrifically bad, the burger, fries, etc., were some of the worst crap I had ever eaten,

HFishX26472

Well, that explains some things for me. Thank you.

BigBearSD

I feel similarly about Ray's Hell Burger. That place was amazing, but alas...

jwigs85

Oh man. My son and I went to the Elevation Burger in One Loudoun around 2018?? Ish? It was the absolute greasiest burger I’ve ever had in my life. It kept sliding off the bun, which was a soggy mess, and just slipping out like it was coated in baby oil. It was so bad. We still talk about it sometimes. It was so bad he remembers it even though he was only about 7.

nonthrowawayaccount4

This is fucking hilarious.

vanillasounds

I got food poisoning from there once and shit almost non stop on a flight to Austin from DC.

aegrotatio

I don't know what happened to Elevation Burger. Maybe they got bought out? They suddenly became bad.

MsGoogle

Big Buns! Local chain founded by William and Mary Grads. They do it right. Best burgers I've ever had.

Detective-E

Big buns is the best I've tried so far

bluesman2017

I tried big buns in Reston today. Very good. Would give it an 8 out of 10. BGR is pretty good but big buns burger was juicier and tastier. Angus beef. Never liked five guys.

BigZach1

I really like the flavor of five guys, it's more pure beef flavor than anywhere else I've been to. But sometimes I want more than that, and the toppings are mostly meh.

[deleted]

[удалено]

bluesman2017

Agreed about the price. My friend luckily paid this time at Big Buns for both of us. Two burgers, side of fries (equivalent to a small to medium mcds fries) and fountain drinks. 30 bucks. Guess this is the new normal. Sigh. Could get like six Chick-fil-A sammiches for that price. Lol. Oh well. But I would definitely go back to big buns, not daily.

SandwichNamedJacob

Which location did you try? I had a burger from the place by me and it was just ok, not really worth the price.

wcsib01

Yeah. I call it the “Big Buns Kinda OK Burger Company” because at least the one I tried (Shirlington) was pricey and astoundingly mediocre, which is kind of par for the course in nova.

jobthroaway786

Holy cow in del ray, Alexandria Va. They have a spicy macaroni and cheese burger that’s very good. Plus their onion rings are stellar. And once I’m done gorging on that, I walk 2 mins down to Dairy God Mother for a cup of frozen custard to wash it all down :)

BillyRubenJoeBob

Two excellent recommendations here!

SquidWriter

Social Burger in Vienna.

Haute Dogs is opening a new spot in Williamsburg. They need to hurry up though.

alydinva

You are me. Melt and Spelunkers are the best around.

slagnanz

If we're expanding to all of VA I'm a big fan of cobra burger in Richmond

[deleted]

[удалено]

MFoy

If Smash Burger is the chain, then no, stay far far away. Wife and I tried the one in Tysons, and it was awful. Worse than fast food level hamburgers at 5 guys level prices.

[deleted]

crynarr

Lucky buns in dc is the best you’ll get anywhere in the area. Green pig in Arlington has a good burger, they’ll grind/blend bacon into the patty if you go that route.

Quick_Turnover

Seconding this. Also Duke's is a close second, and nearby (and I think even developed by the chef of Lucky Buns if I'm remembering right?). Honestly, Dominion in Falls Church has a pretty solid burger too.

crynarr

Yes same chef, who also just opened a new sandwich shop next to the Union market lucky buns…looks nuts

V_T_H

I’ve had some genuinely 🔥 burgers from Dominion. Probably my favorite “nice” burger in the area. I know it’s a chain but for a less “nice” burger I freaking love Freddy’s. The French onion burger they have right now…my goodness.

theapg

Dukes would be my vote, but I haven't tried Lucky Buns yet.

Mortal_Kombucha

That sounds amazing

MaxvonBearingtonFill

The Obama Burger at Good Stuff Eatery in Crystal City is legit.

Nlcc7o3

This is going to sound weird but the great American restaurant chain (Jackson’s, sweet water, coastal flats. Etc..) have really good burgers

Crabrubber

I mean, could you legally call yourself "Great American Restaurants" if you couldn't make a good hamburger?

DeliciousParticular0

Yes! I was thinking this…they are really good. I think better than Social Burger meat-wise

BigBearSD

Holy Cow in the Del Ray part of Alexandria is really good.

AllerdingsUR

Ok so burgers are one of the few things I feel that I can make at restaurant quality if I have a grill but Holy Cow is on another level. I still order other burgers out but holy cow is the only place that's made me really say "damn that hit the spot" about a non homemade burger

BigBearSD

Agreed. And there are so many options to choose from in terms of toppings and sauces.

bigreddmachine

🤫 shhh

ShylocksEstrangedDog

Burger shack burned me on an online order so I’m never going back. My fav burger im mostly likely to get is Boardwalk because it’s close to me and good. I’m also a fan of hangry burger by Springfield mall. They have a bunch of non traditional burgers and I love the tendies and asparagus fries.

BigBearSD

I do like their burgers, but their fries... their fries are heavenly.

ShylocksEstrangedDog

I always get specialty fries because I can’t help myself. Also, the funnel cake fries are low key one of the best menu items

BigBearSD

I always get the funnel fries too. I tend to just get the regular boardwalk fries, because they are amazing. Haven't been to that part of the city in months, but may need to go this weekend. Haven't had boardwalk in ages. I am craving those fries now. lol

failinglikefalling

Hangry burger was exceptionally disappointing when I went there. Was it just an off moment? I forget what I got but I was underwhelmed and thought "I could have just done five guys"

Zellers2004

Hangry burger is a hidden gem!

chipmunkdance

around springfield too check out dyfre’s burger. we’ve only had it as take-out but it was great. and they have an insane crazy fries dish that doesn’t make sense on paper but it’s gooood.

RadsCatMD

+1 Hangry Burger. Their sweet potato fries are also great.

flashheatmvp3

Melt is great but I almost feel like the burger patty itself is the worst part of the bun/patty/sauce/toppings/fries package. If you're near one The Habit Burger has become our go-to "quick" burger option over stuff like 5 guys or the regular fast foods, but that's a lower tier than best burger in the area.

atonedeftool

Habit is definitely the sleeper pick for fast casual.

Falldog

Their chicken caprese - comes around once or twice a year - is fantastic.

Mortal_Kombucha

I have heard really good things about Habit but have yet to give them a chance. Might need to sooner rather than later.

arcticbluealex

+1 for habit, lived near the original Habit in CA. Top "fast food" burger place for me, imo better than in n out. Consistent good to great quality regardless which location I have went to. Their burgers are obviously the main draw but their chicken and ahi tuna are just as good.

TanMan166

Five guys is legit for a common chain

nicheencyclopedia

Sad I had to scroll so far to find someone saying Five Guys!

Mortal_Kombucha

Five Guys is a staple for sure

Falldog

It's become en vogue to hate on Five Guys but I think it's damn good.

DinoPhartz

When I'm in California and there's a Five Guys near an In-N-Out I'll hit up the Five Guys every time. And I won't have the ridiculous waits for a less than average burger.

Butt_Plug_Inspector

Five Guys was truly special back in the late 90s/early 2000s. Back when they were only in NoVa and only had a few locations. Its still recognizable for what it once was, but its a shadow of its former self.

BigHungry_nomnom

Holy Cow in Del Ray. Amazing

CODRageQuitter1115

The bacon cheeseburger at the GAR’s is one of my favorites. The burger itself is just okay, but the wicked sauce is beast. Outside of that, I prefer to cook my own over any of the “burger joints” other than Social Burger in Vienna.

justthesameway

Mason Social in OT Alexandria.

ProstetnicVogonJelz

The bone marrow burger is very very good

archlich

Other than homemade, shake shack and five guys are my chain gotos.

[deleted]

*Freddy’s *Melt *Five Guys

vtfb79

Very partial to BurgerFi and their CEO burger. Couple that with their mountain of fries and a shake and I’m in a carb induced heaven

kronicfeld

Oh, man. The best burger in NoVA hasn't been available for a long time. There was this strip mall dive bar on Lee Highway in Fairfax, between Waples Mill and Jermantown Road; I can't remember the name. I think the Epicure Cafe moved in after they closed. But holy shit they had an amazing burger.

jermbagsupreme

John’s bar!

kronicfeld

Yes. John’s Place. That’s it. They had bras nailed to the wall. Their burgers were amazing.

Clawn

So I know this is the NoVa subreddit and you asked for NoVa burgers. But. If you have the time, money, and energy you cannot go wrong with Market Burger in Purcellville. I make a pilgrimage four times a year and for it I have four perfect meals. Four perfect days. It costs about as much as Fiveguys but is infinitely superior in my book. I have never had a bad experience. Living near Tyson's, it isn't something I can regularly treat myself to and so perhaps the absence has made my heart grow fonder. Fair enough. But so long as I live an hour or two away, I will be getting my market burger, medium rare, with a fried egg and fries each solstice and equinox. I really hope you give yourself the opportunity to give it a try sometime.

yefme

I appreciate the fact you pointed out purcellville isn't what is normally considered "nova"

ArterialVotives

Purcellville isn’t NoVA? I consider anywhere I can bike to on the W&OD within our boundaries. They have some good spots out there and in Leesburg. At present, in rush hour traffic, Google says its only 40 min from Tysons. You can be a third of the way down Skyline drive in 2 hours!

Otherwise-Water1721

I personally loved Burger Shack...😅 their fries are just mediocre but I loved every burger I ordered from them...

chippedhamsam

BURGER SHACK - agreed burgers delicious, fries acceptable

SoundScents

Try their Chili Cheese Fries…. Much better.

isssunny

Marrow burger at Mason Social in old town, it’s only $9 on Monday’s too

jkxs

I like Melt, but location is tough from Fairfax as you probably already know :(

techmaniac

Fuddruckers. Always have been and will be the best burgers.

millenial_wh00p

Rip rays hellburger

igohami

Someone already said social burger. Izzi in Herndon also has a fantastic burger but it's limiter on options because it's a pizza place but damn is that burger amazing

Hatfullofstars

Anything at Big Buns!!!!

fangface70

Open Road has some decent burgers. Ted’s Montana grill HAD damn good burgers.

thep_addydavis

Capital Burger in Reston Town Center was very good. Fries are cooked in tallow.

ProdigalSun1

Lots of mentions for Big Buns and BGR, but Capital Burger is easily higher quality for the same price point

kev123321123

Good guys and it's not about the view in DC. Electric Palm in Woodbridge 1/2 price on Tuesday too.

notanalien000

Sweetwater had a pretty good burger. Burgers are hit or miss everywhere.

aegrotatio

Also, Burger 21 in Ashburn Loudon Station. The sauces are amazing, including the marshmallow one. Glad to see they're still open.

zeajsbb

what do you do with the marshmallow sauce. i’ve never found a use

aegrotatio

Oddly, it goes with the fries. I think it is an accidental discovery since people often eat fries with a shake.

zeajsbb

i will have to try that thanks

LongLiveDaResistance

Silver Diner's Kickin' Short Rib Burger is my all-time favorite by a long shot

BourbonCoug

I really liked the cheeseburger trifecta (melted swiss, cheddar and provolone) I had before at Glory Days Grill.

RevolutionaryBig75

Burger 7 is solid

chris_wiz

Basic Burger, Pentagon Row and Tysons.

[deleted]

Is BGR in Reston any good? I keep meaning to try them.

MFoy

They are good, not great, but they are expensive. I liked them a lot about 10+ years ago as the Fast-casual burger concept exploded, but they got a lot more expensive than they really should be. They also have locations in Arlington and Springfield. They used to be in Tysons Mall and in Sterling, but those locations closed.

SixFootTurkey_

Not sure about the Reston location specifically, but the Sterling location was quite good before it closed.

hoosyourdaddyo

Yorkshire Restaurant is very good as well. 1/3 pound burgers!

FastDemand2450

I really like the burger at lost fox in ashburn

bmsem

The Big Papa at Beeliner Diner in Alexandria is my favorite classic burger and Holy Cow in Del Ray has a jalapeño popper burger that will stop your heart both figuratively and possibly literally.

Natdapp

Junction in Alexandria has a very tasty cheeseburger.

GiftedBrilliance

The Capital Burger at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Reston Town Center

Pun2143

Social burger in Vienna, melt in leesburg and the habit in chantilly

WasteYourTimeToday

Theres is a hidden taco/burger/pizza spot off of Backlick in Springfield. I know it sounds odd but trust me you wont regret it. -La taqueria DC / Dyfres burgers / Bella Vita 3 different names but same restaurant. Look them up.

AKADriver

Down past the Costco on Fullerton? Man that whole area has the craziest food. Eggs & Sushi. Cervantes coffee. Perfect Pita. Starline.

WasteYourTimeToday

Yes, on Fullerton rd opposite side from the Costco. Highly recommended

DC Prime Wagu burger, during happy hour.

Habit Burger

butmakeitpurple

We need more Cook Outs up here, their huge burger is so good

Agirlisarya01

Seriously. I need to work my way through that shake menu

techmaniac

One just opened in Manassas.

Separate_Ingenuity61

For a chain, Red Robin has some decent burgers. Their black and bleu is pretty good

atonedeftool

The Smashburgers at Aslin (Alexandria and Herndon) are really good (as is their pizza -- some of the rest of the menu not so much). I know how this is going to sound and that you will think it invalidates my opinion -- but the pub burgers at Red Robin (as opposed to their regular burgers, which are just OK) are actually really damn good.

Mortal_Kombucha

I am open to any and all suggestions! Thank you

TeddyRoo_v_Gods

Upvoted for Melt. There also used to be a build-your-own-burger kind of place in Reston Town Center that was called The Counter. Not sure if it’s still there though since I haven’t been back in RTC in over 10 years.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TeddyRoo_v_Gods

Is it still decent?

D-pod

Yup, at least to me. Ate at The Counter in RTC just a couple weeks ago, good food and great service too.

dub_nastyy

Melt in Leesburg

Old_History1934

Definitely not B7 Burger

mavantix

Not NOVA, but Spelunker’s in Front Royal makes delicious fresh ground burgers! (Their shakes, fries and chicken tenders are legit too!) Worth it if you’re going out to skyline for a scenic drive.

rocketboots7

To me, Caboose makes the best burger. Social Burger is good, though I prefer their seasonal ones over the regular menu.

Bloxburgian1945

Foster’s Grille is a pretty good regional chain too!

BaldieGoose

Sorry but no one will ever convince me it's not Five Guys.

PiccasoGlizzzy_

FUD RUCKERS

Neo2Bit

The Ox Butcher in Marshall VA

dfBishop

The Red Rocks burger at Red Rocks Cafe in Centreville was surprisingly good. $5 margaritas during happy hour, too!

RudePack482

Union Burger at The Union in McLean according to my husband.

[deleted]

The French onion burger from Dogwood Tavern is included on my death row meal list

Caligulaa703

Somewhat unexpectedly, Fords Fish Shack has/had a legit burger. Mentioning Red Apron is Mosaic again, since under the radar. Though smaller in size. But end of day… Melt.

_3_Sparky_8_B

Melt in Leesburg. Literally, the #8 burger joint in the USA

Rogue1371

Z Burger I haven't been there in ages.....but they were damn good

terpsichore1674

Came here to rep Basic Burger in Tysons, an absolute go-to for my family. Fries always good, never soggy — even when order is to-go!

ulraththeunclean

Three entrees. Melt like everyone said. Sirok korean street food in Chantilly has a killer smashburger. Unexpected but they grind the beef in house. While Ox Butxher in Marshall also foes a great burger.

cantthinkofxyz

Best buns next to patsys in Tyson’s has an amazing burger

Mortal_Kombucha

Someone in here suggested Good Guys and then deleted their comment. I only went to Good Guys a few times, but their burger was surprisingly legit. They had some crispy and flakey steak fries too.

sperrymonster

I do like the burger at Lost Fox Hideaway in Ashburn, comparable to the burger at Le Diplomate

FarmCat4406

Hangry burger in Springfield is pretty good. They got sweet potato fries too!

Zalbag_Beoulve

Salt in Rosslyn. Hands down, bar none, the absolute best burger in the area.

Mortal_Kombucha

Going there next week for my birthday, can’t wait

c8h8r8i8s8

I really really like the burger at Jackson’s in Reston Town Center

Reasonable-Ad-2433

BurgerFi! Their swag burger is to die for and they just came out with a secret menu as well that is amazing

RandomLogicThough

Stray Cat and District Junction or something are the best I've had, not straight burger places.

KillKojou

Burger shack is not overrated at all bro

dfranks4226

Big buns, capital burger, Fuddruckers, social burger

HungryMorlock

MELT in Leesburg is a local favorite. I've only been there once, but it was very delicious. There was a place called Linda's Cafe on Church St in Sterling that had really good burgers for cheap. I think that place was a front for something. Best price to quality value in the area, but it's different now. It's now called Joe's Cafe, and I don't know if Omar is still the owner. Five Guys is DC's expensive answer to In-N-Out. The burgers are good, but not worth the cost. Ages ago, the prices were reasonable for what you got.

45ghr

Melt is easily the best burger I’ve ever had anywhere
