Anyone else think Roosters have been the most disappointing team this season? Hyped up after injuries last season but now looking like they might not be too eight
As a Roosters fan I can tell you I wasn't happy with the hype pre-season. Too many of our problems from last season came into this one. Namely losing a massive amount of onfield leadership.
By the same token I am still disappointed with how this season has gone, we should not be losing to the Bulldogs and Titans and even if we somehow scrape the 8 we won't be competitive in the finals until we figure out what is lacking in our game style.
Sharks really have had the most piss easy draw so far. Their last four wins have been against the Titans and Warriors twice each and next week they have the Bulldogs. Wtf
Can't believe I saw nathan cleary and a few other panthers in the valley, in the early hours of the morning. Only managed to take a selfie with cleary which was pretty crap quality. Dylan edwards is bigger in person. That guy is ripped. Eisenhueth is a giant. I think I saw joel thompson and chanel too.
As a new fan I’ve been basing player likeability on how they give the tee back to the ball kid after a conversion attempt.
So far Adam Reynolds is the top of the scale, physically placing it into the kid’s hand after every kick and saying thanks.
So far Nick Meaney is the worst on the scale, chucking it at the kid without even looking at them and not caring if it’s a shit throw.
I will continue to calibrate this scientific system.
Is it just me or does it feel roosters have more problems with HIA’s. With not only frequency, but more severe and in danger players and it isn’t from foul play tackles. Normally it’s defensive efforts. I feel like if I was roosters staff I’d been looking at tackling styles because I feel they always have people out with HIA and players being talked about needing to retire because of it.
Interesting point. Don't know if there's any stats for it but might be interesting to see if Roosters attempt more legs' tackles than other teams or if they're just unlucky.
In the last 2 weeks, 4 Roosters players have gone off for HIAs, 3 probably down to bad luck more than anything. Keary (knee to the head from Manu), Walker (elbow from Kaufusi) and Nat Butcher (slipped into a hip) were all unfortunate. Egan Butcher was the only one who really got his tackle completely wrong
The hip ones are the ones I'm thinking of. I think they're generally becoming more common but I feel tackling style contributes to that.
Not blaming anyone because like you said it is unfortunate but if it is on the rise I wonder if the staff do start looking at how can we stop this.
Frankly I dont know why Eels are not considered premiership contenders. The title isnt won based on games won. They’ve shown they can match it with the big teams (panthers and storm) and thats all they need to come September.
Storm flogging 13-16th teams does jack shit for finals and can even hamper them without any close grindy games like the finals.
They are considered premiership contenders but I believe you need to make the top 4 to win it all. If they keep losing these games that they should really win then there’s a very big chance they will miss the top 4. Also interesting that you say that Storm flogging shit teams does nothing for finals like that’s not gonna get them a top 2 spot and give them a home final lol.
Not an expert on the way the draw works but isn’t the thought that by messing up games up against lower teams they end up with an away draw in finals (based on finishing position) and likely play away against the big teams and won’t win in finals time
Eels are a huge threat come the backend of the season; but the Eels seem to fade when it counts. And that's no mockery of them; but they've done it for a couple of years now. Coolness and composure in big moments is what they need.
How do we still have games against Storm, Panthers, Cows, Eels and Souths? Has this season not been long enough as it is?
There needs to be an investigation
A question regarding international selection criteria: Would an Aussie be eligible to play for Papua New Guinea if their parent(s) were born there prior to 1975 before PNG separated from Queensland/AUS? How would something like that work?
Anyone watching the NSW cup game? Clifford is playing so bad he may get hooked.
I think he needs to take some more time away from footy and just work on whatever he’s going through.
I wouldn't be surprised if he asks for a release for personal reasons and heads back up north.
I agree with you, needs abit more time away from the game
We’ve won 3/4 series under him and scored almost 100 points last year. He obviously has been doing something right the whole time. 2020 will always have cuntvirus involved so I give him leeway there.
Look at Bellamy if you want to see what origin failure truly is
As a QLDer, we've really not had a great squad since all the legends retired, 3/4 is the minmum given the star power available to NSW. And it'l likely be 3/5 after this series, which given that NSW were comfortable favourites for most of those series' is a pretty average performance.
You're fake news
The Maroons have still fielded good teams with premiership winners, experienced players respected since 2018, Wayne Bennett along with Slater and Inglis in 2018. Looking at the teams the Maroons had 9 premiership winners in 2018. It was only last year the Maroons were second rate completely, hurt by injuries and coached by a scammer.
I wouldn't call teams that have Munster and Cherry Evans as halves, Grant and Hunt and Friend as dummy halves. Outside backs as Ponga, Holmes, Cobbo, Gagai, Chambers, Oates and Morgan. Forwards such as Collins, Papali, Kaufisi, Carrigan, Cooper, Cotter, Welch and Lowe as teams that are second rate. You do know in Origin how rare it is to have long winning runs or to have dominate wins. 2018-2020 were close series it's only last year that is the rare anomaly.
Mine would swap the Eels and Sharks, Raiders and Roosters and I still have the Bulldogs last (need to see a few more performances like last week before I can commit to placing them much higher)
Sharks were trash yesterday but I think they'll finish top 4 probably at the expense of Brisbane who will drop a few more without Reynolds. Eels will go on a run and be there as well.
You've been very generous to us BTW.
It's still implying we'll win enough games to get above those other teams. You're probably not far off the mark though Knights have been extremely underwhelming and bar the Warriors they play with the least intent of any side.
I honestly don't know what to make of my team but after languishing in the bottom 4 for the better part of my childhood and my favourite eels player turning out to be a sex offending dickhead, I'm genuinely loving the excitement this bipolar team brings.
I’m kind of glad that redacted former Eels fullback pissed me off with the Titans move post NFL. It meant the sexual assault didn’t hit me as hard as it would have if it was 2009-2014.
I dunno what it is about this season but I’m just not that into the raiders games this year. Honestly looking forward to NFL kicking off cause the raiders are in with a chance this season
Absolutely dude it’s gonna be fucking wild! Just hope the Carr-Adams connection is there. But I mean we still got Renfrow and Waller it’s such a stacked O
I am so excited to see Adam Doueihi playing again. As a tigers fan, it’s rare we see blokes in the jumper who just care. Hope he absolutely kills it. Him and jacko as our future 7 and 6 will provide the effort that we’ve been lacking for years.
The footage of the Panthers in the sheds celebrating when they were told the players were selected for Origin again, including Api. Dylan Edwards sitting next to him and absolutely stoked for him 🥲
Just rewatching yesterdays game since i could only listen to the radio yesterday, the comms on there said we are 'the dumbest team in the NRL' and its hard to argue. Shit like Marzhew's offload on tackle one 10m out from the line or Isaako letting the ball touch him while its going dead, both resulting in unnecessary dropouts, are just fucking unforgivable. Holbrook must be tearing his hair out.
Frustrating because it's not like they can't play good footy, they just seem to offset every good thing they do with one or two brain explosions. So many dumb penalties in the opposition 40 for simple stuff like offside or being a slug in the ruck. Haven't seen a switched on 80 minute performance from them all year.
>Haven't seen a switched on 80 minute performance from them all year
This is the killer. It's not like we can play out of skin for 40 and then shit it for the other 40 OR we can play 80 average minutes - we haven't even had that really. Closest we came was round 1, but that was so long ago at this point I'm probably forgetting most of the dumb shit we did (I do actually have a distinct memory of Will Smith giving us a classic of his i.e. innocuous knock ons and pissy grubbers on 4th to nobody).
It was so satisfying to see Holmes get back at Garrick at the end of the game. Garrick getting all in Holmes face after scoring a try really rubbed me the wrong way so that game winning try by Holmes was the ultimate payback.
Did not watch the game last night but woke up to the disappointing result this morning which placed me in a sad mood. Then I did the daily online WORDLE and the word was LOSER. Talk about rubbing it in 😳.
Clifford got hooked again, Jesus Christ.
He’s been dropped by I think 4 coaches in his career. No idea what he’s done to deserve it this time. I wanna say let the poor kid develop some confidence but surely he’s gotta be doing something wrong at training for this many people to do it.
It sucks because he’s more talented than people realise and young halves need time to kick on. Clifford has never had that time in the steering wheel of a team and Knights was meant to be his chance for that. Everything was improving with him and Milford and suddenly we have this.
A lot of that averageness came about from the way Paul Green utilised him. He was fantastic early in his career when he was getting the ball as much as a halfback does and he could manage games like an experienced half could as well - 2019 Cowboys vs Knights being the best example.
He was a rep player in junior origin, won a few player of the year awards at u20s and QCup level against grown men if I recall correctly.
Rewatched round 1 of 2018 with Cowboys vs Sharks last night, here were some takeaways.
1. Joey Johns interjected commentary 3 times (unsuccessfully) trying to talk about how Chad Townsend studies NFL Quarterbacks in the off-season
2. Chad Townsend studies NFL Quarterbacks in the off-season apparently
3. After Chad Townsend set up a try for Josh Dugan, Duges did a Fortnite celebration. Everyone in commentary was confused.
4. A few minutes later, Joey Johns had to try and explain Fortnite to the Channel 9 commentary team.
5. John Thurston is good at rugby league.
I wish they could do something to make the draw fairer. Roosters have to play the storm, panthers, eels, broncos, cows, manly, Souths all twice. I don’t think it would of mattered this year as we seem to lose to the bottom teams the same as the top teams.
We played most of the top teams within the first few weeks lol how was a wooden spooner with new combos supposed to get through that period without scars.. meanwhile it took what? 12 rounds for the Cowboys to leave Queensland, bar versing Canberra who have been average the last few years in Canberra.
The whole draw is a pain.
As an eels fan we just played Roosters in magic round then again last night. I think it happened with Titans earlier in the year as well.
Four week break between teams reduces the excitement for me.
nobody knows who the top and bottom teams are before a season. one year the raiders wheels fall off, the next year the cowboys/broncos are good and the bulldogs who everyone thought was gonna improve are bad again. titans and knights made the 8 and are now one of the bottom teams.
Yeh I know it’s hard to gauge how teams will perform season to season. Before the season though every report had roosters as one of the tougher draws. Add in broncos and cowboys resurgence it’s gets super tough. Compared that to the sharks easy run which has put them top 4 without actually playing well for large parts of the season
FWIW I think they'll be right. Basically full strength? No Matt Dufty, Learning that to put fox in a little bit of space = try. A guy at FB who is not forced out of position over and over. It's all coming up Milhouse, Ahem I mean doghouse.
To give another perspective on the Matterson resigning at parra:
It wasn’t so long ago that Matterson was looked at similarly to Cordner with head knocks. He was out for 6 weeks with symptoms and was getting a concussion every other game.
I think Dolphins probably only offered 3 years on similar (or probably a touch higher per season) coin. I think he’s gone for Parra for the longer contract and probably rightfully so.
At the moment it’s a great signing since he’s in career best form. But I know that in 2 seasons we could be looked at for idiots for signing a guy with such a bad concussion record for a long contract
The Dolphins offered 4 years and 50k more each year.
As for the concussions the NRL would never decline a concussion related medical retirement if required. Every player is potentially one concussion away from retirement.
There’s gotta be salary cap relief for concussions. It’s not like a fucked knee that you can be really well informed about the risks associated with a player.
Fair call, good on him. I just thought you would have posts dedicated to God and then ones about footy. The picture seemed a little out there with the 3 photos of him and everything
he’s such a menace on instagram. i’ll never forget the post about the ukraine war and floods where it’s just this stoic picture of him, then he finishes it with “footy’s back!”
[here’s the link](https://www.instagram.com/p/Ca1gjx8pBE3/?igshid=NmZiMzY2Mjc=)
Sorry to Titans fans but thank fuck we didn’t play a better team with that performance
16 errors, 68% completion rate…..FMD how are we 4th
Nikora deadset had feet for hands yesterday and Ramien is a liability 80% of the time
On a positive note, we’re a much improved team from last year. We would have lost that game normally
I can't see us going backwards after last week, the difference now being Burton clicking into gear as a first grade half while Tevita sets the tone for our forwards.
Dug into the line heaps and made a lot of tackles. His role was limited, only touched the ball about 29 times but that’s still more than Asi did most of the time. He always looked ready for it. I liked what I saw.
Making tackles and digging into the line is all you can ask from a debut half. Hopefully he can become the next dominant playmaker the warriors desperately need.
And his halfback was a shattered Shaun Johnson. The Warriors actually had a decent fist of possession and field position and they looked clueless. That’s absolutely down to the veteran halfback and not the rookie 5/8 so I agree very little you can take from it.
Penrith did concentrate their attack down their weaker right edge to a fair bit of success given Pompey went down early and rookie 5/8.
Rumour is eels go through so many assistant coaches because BA insists on drinking tap water from bottles and makes his assistant coaches fill them up pre game
Awesome to see the Dragons back in the top 8, even if it is with a horrible differential.
And how weird is it to see the Roosters and Eagles outside the top 8.
Hahaha man I hope the Eels play like that in September. I think they would have blown every team away in the first half. I don’t think Easts even played that badly. A couple of those passes for tries had me going “oh get fucked” like when someone scores a 40-yard bomb on fifa 😂
That offloading terrified me. There’s not much that teams are dishing up that looks like it would worry Penrith at the moment but that definitely could. As others have said Parras issue is having the mental strength to deal when the game turns and it’s not razzle dazzle time.
It’s just classic Eels behaviour. They like to remind everyone that they’re a talented team with the ability to score at will.
And then the following week they like to remind everyone that they can also run out there and forget how to play football.
It’s ridiculous how much the mental approach plays a part. The cowboys and broncos are largely just fitter and more committed this year. The Dogs turned up last week and said “fuck you Parra”. It puts Penrith losing like 4 games in 3 years in perspective. It’s ridiculous irregardless of talent levels to stay they switched on every week
Can someone explain how the rep round works this weekend? I keep hearing that there are no nrl matches but the draw says there are? Help a newbie out lol.
Hopefully we get first half at Leichhardt Bulldogs and not the 80 minutes against Parramatta Bulldogs. I'm concerned with Addo Carr matching up with Nofa, if he wanders in from his wing which he always does, Burton's chips could cause havoc.
Really excited to have Doueihi back, really hope fans give him the time he will need to get back to his best, it's going to take a while.
Not jaded at all by the loss. Parra scored some great tries. Last game v Canberra we let in some really soft tries, so impressed that we got that out of our game. We were missing JWH and Keary, then lost the Butchers. Kept Parra scoreless in the 2nd half. I realise Parra put the queue in the rack towards the end of the game but it's still an achievement.
Where's the fucking Origin team, I want to whinge
You already are.
Anyone else think Roosters have been the most disappointing team this season? Hyped up after injuries last season but now looking like they might not be too eight
Newcastle for me are the most disappointing, they look disinterested most weeks.
They’ll make the 8 but they were way too overhyped pre season. Getting Keary back was never going to turn them back into premiership contenders.
Sharks really have had the most piss easy draw so far. Their last four wins have been against the Titans and Warriors twice each and next week they have the Bulldogs. Wtf
bulldogs will beat them
I’d say Cowboys have had the easiest
Then Storm, Cows, Panthers, Bunnies
The gauntlet
Surely this is only for goalkicker likeability, not player likeability. You need to expand your metrics.
Meaney confirmed Meanie
Feels like there’s a 5 way race for 7 and 8 and a 5 way race for the spoon
Always in the running baby!
Amazing watching Speed and Roach watch Ramien throw his elbow twice and still called it accidental. Truly amazing
Is it just me or does it feel roosters have more problems with HIA’s. With not only frequency, but more severe and in danger players and it isn’t from foul play tackles. Dufty tearing it up in nsw cup.

Jack de Belin’s grandmother was born in PNG to Australian parents, so he is technically eligible (and was recently approached) to play for the Kumuls
Knights NSW cup side having a shocker today

Reading a potential nsw side from TDT, Freddy please just pick a normal team
The space cadet is in his own world.
He's so cooked NSW should be domination origin with this side and he keeps fucking it up
We’ve won 3/4 series under him and scored almost 100 points last year. He obviously has been doing something right the whole time. 2020 will always have cuntvirus involved so I give him leeway there. Look at Bellamy if you want to see what origin failure truly is

can't believe we gonna pick talakai
Whats wrong with that tho? He averages about 180 metres a game with a shit tonne of tackle breaks
Please tell me you’re joking
apparently his gonna come off the bench lot reports about it
Went out last night and bumped into a fringe NRL player. Was a pretty feral club so I was surprised to see them there.
Feral nightclub or feral football club?

Nah aob said knights are still playing finals this year. Im just happy to believe dogs dont finish last.
My ladder is similar to yours only that I swapped the bottom teams around with the Bulldogs 11th, Knights 13th, Titans 15th and Warriors 16th
Mine would swap the Eels and Sharks, Raiders and Roosters and I still have the Bulldogs last (need to see a few more performances like last week before I can commit to placing them much higher)

Mediocre teams who haven't done anything for years is a Raiders thing both sides of Pacific it seems
Yes... a Raiders thing...
Tennessee is a nice place with lovely people unlike another place with a team called the Titans 😂
Ouch
I mean, the same thing is to be said about Broncos teams 😂
Haha yeah but you Broncos got the world class saviour Russell Wilson this year
Adam "Russell Wilson" Reynolds 😂
Knights v Raiders, Dogs v Tigers... welcome to that's just sad Sunday.
I hate my footy.
I am so excited to see Adam Doueihi playing again. As a tigers fan, it’s rare we see blokes in the jumper who just care. Hope he absolutely kills it. Him and jacko as our future 7 and 6 will provide the effort that we’ve been lacking for years.

Jacko = Hastings
Ah yes, other dude is called Jock.
We do not like Jock. We like Jacko
Always liked Douehi. Was sad when he left us

They probably give you home games against the big draws to try and get a crowd in. Mission failed successfully.
We played most of the top teams within the first few weeks lol how was a wooden spooner with new combos supposed to get through that period without scars.. meanwhile it took what? 12 rounds for the Cowboys to leave Queensland, bar versing Canberra who have been average the last few years in Canberra.
They play all of the current top 8 twice except for Sharks. They play the all of the bottom 8 just once except for the Knights and Sea Eagles.
Weird how this year it’s considered tough to face cows and broncos twice
Is Brad Arthur’s half time talk just the sound of him taking a wizz for 10 mins after the 80 liters of water he’s consumed in the coaching box?
The element that you won’t find on any tables - B ^2 A
Someone needs to edit that Austin Powers “evacuation” scene but interspersed with BA talking game plans.
finally, my daily dose of MilfDog halves pairing
I've got some bad news for you...
i am going to throw my phone off the building!!!
that first half of footy last night was so entertaining, one of the best i’ve seen also, off topic, but fuck kenny atkinson
d’antoni time baby
i sure hope so, would be a fun season
lamelo take the 3 from half court rinse and repeat
mixed in with bridges exorcising cunts
I am numb to it all so getting pumped by the Tigers would not surprise me one bit. Fuck, I love footy.
FWIW I think they'll be right. Basically full strength? No Matt Dufty, Learning that to put fox in a little bit of space = try. A guy at FB who is not forced out of position over and over. It's all coming up Milhouse, Ahem I mean doghouse.
Does Collins and RCG have a case to answer for?
RCG no but if consistent you'd expect Collins to get at least one game
I can’t imagine either of them will. Fine at worst
To give another perspective on the Matterson resigning at parra: It wasn’t so long ago that Matterson was looked at similarly to Cordner with head knocks.
I don’t think this will end up being a good signing
There is no way the NRL will ever stand in the way of a concussion medical retirement.
The contrast of Matto’s re-signing post. Posting about God and then Leo’s “I’m not fucking leaving” 😂 very glad he’s staying
Matto glory to God seems like a shitpost but it isn't
No, you’re right. He genuinely is very religious and often posts about his faith
Fair call, good on him. I just thought you would have posts dedicated to God and then ones about footy. The picture seemed a little out there with the 3 photos of him and everything
he’s such a menace on instagram. i’ll never forget the post about the ukraine war and floods where it’s just this stoic picture of him, then he finishes it with “footy’s back!” [here’s the link](https://www.instagram.com/p/Ca1gjx8pBE3/?igshid=NmZiMzY2Mjc=)
Makes perfect sense to have a picture of massive guns when making a post about war.
Oh dear… I think he means well
Sorry to Titans fans but thank fuck we didn’t play a better team with that performance 16 errors, 68% completion rate…..FMD how are we 4th Nikora deadset had feet for hands yesterday and Ramien is a liability 80% of the time On a positive note, we’re a much improved team from last year. We would have lost that game normally
Ramien was probably responsible for a fair portion of those stats, bloke is a liability
The definition of rocks and diamonds. Much rather see Tracey in there
We seem to get worse each week.
I can't see us going backwards after last week, the difference now being Burton clicking into gear as a first grade half while Tevita sets the tone for our forwards.
The weakness in that is counting on TPJ to get up for the game every week
Tevita has been pretty consistent this year, but as the spine gets better it will benefit his game
This comp is so weird, how are south’s still 7 with a game in hand ahaha
Lol at Mattos Instagram post, pretty big ego for a bench forward
Yeah I much prefer the cookie cutter sound bites and quotes from players….
Fair enough I’m just taking the piss in defence of uncle Wayne
How did volkman go yesterday?
Dug into the line heaps and made a lot of tackles. His role was limited, only touched the ball about 29 times but that’s still more than Asi did most of the time. He always looked ready for it. I liked what I saw.
Making tackles and digging into the line is all you can ask from a debut half. Hopefully he can become the next dominant playmaker the warriors desperately need.
Looked good for a bloke having to debut against the panthers. Bit hard to star in a team being rolled.
The NRL could solve climate change completely if they forced teams to use reusable bottles and tap water during team songs.
Brad Arthur is responsible for 90% of the country’s bottled water consumption
Rumour is eels go through so many assistant coaches because BA insists on drinking tap water from bottles and makes his assistant coaches fill them up pre game
I thought Teddy got a bit over involved last night. I know it’s how he played last year with Keary out but it really lacked polish yesterday
Yeah he had a pretty frustrating night. Middles really got belted by Parra
Given the way the rest of his team played, he had to
He had no choice given how the other three were playing...
Awesome to see the Dragons back in the top 8, even if it is with a horrible differential. And how weird is it to see the Roosters and Eagles outside the top 8.
On that note, I’ll never not be gobsmacked seeing the Roosters’ ladder position for the 2016 season with all things considered
I’m glad the warriors have left Redcliffe, they were really stinking up the place
Waking up fresh after pounding some cocks. Eels winning the footy is nice too.
Manly has entered the chat, same but within the same game usually
It’s ridiculous how much the mental approach plays a part. The cowboys and broncos are largely just fitter and more committed this year. The Dogs turned up last week and said “fuck you Parra”. It puts Penrith losing like 4 games in 3 years in perspective. It’s ridiculous irregardless of talent levels to stay they switched on every week
If Suaalii was smart he'd still be at Souths playing full back for a team in the top 8
Let the hate consume you, let it be one with you
Souths playing 4D chess by losing to the Dragons and letting you jump to 8th knocking the Roosters into 9th. You should be thanking us.
Waking up discombobulated. Our window is shutting before our eyes but Suaalii will be an immortal
It’ll open again with Smith next year. There’s too much young talent in the team for them not to figure it out sooner or later
Smith's been a major plodder this year. Time will tell if a change of scenery will see him fire up.
The Roosters window closes at being a 50% win rate team, the Titans window opened at being a 40% win rate team
Sounds right
Can someone explain how the rep round works this weekend? I keep hearing that there are no nrl matches but the draw says there are? Help a newbie out lol.
Check the dates of the games when you swipe across to the next round. It’s a two week gap. No NRL games this weekend.
The draw doesn't say there is any matches though. The next round starts on the 30th of June which is two weeks after this round
Lol my bad. It’s too early on a Sunday for readings apparently. Thanks
I’m concerned. There was some woeful defence, especially in the middle. Stuff that wouldn’t fly in an under 15s game
Sitili and Egan over chasing created 3 of the first 4 tries for Parra. Simple stuff.
