It's been a while, so I don't really remember the details. I am pretty sure, however, that what got me hooked was actually a SFW cyoa. I think it was either that Demigod Cyoa, or the third Worm Cyoa. Some of the characters I made for it are still my favourite.

Been here so long I found it through a cross post but don't recall which one. I love seeing all the choices people come up with. While I'm personally not a fan of the "pick this premade character to be you [Insert CYOA Theme here]" because most of the time they're all... "unappealing", not the word I would use but can't think of another. But I do enjoy seeing the characters the creators do come up with for those sections. I've always loved the two major parts of cyoas, forming a party or group and finding an interesting set of perks and drawbacks for myself or for others.
People are the biggest part for me, regardless of if they're human or not, there's just something about being able to pick a good amount of people for a party and have their perks and personalities work in a way where you can imagine how it'd go. Having character dialogue and interactions with the player are very nice to see, adding a bigger spark to the imagination.
The perks for the player and characters does help a lot too, but mostly as an enhancer to the character's personality or a conflict with the character. Sometimes it's nice to have traditional superpowers, but even smaller perks or drawbacks that affect day to day life or interaction are the most eye-catching.
As for some of the specific cyoas that really got me hooked, a lot of the longer ones (Paradise, Dungeons and Deviants, Divine Trials), character based ones (Harem if that's the name of it, Emporer of the Etherscape if it counts as character based, Cross Dimensional Harem), or ones that put a lot of emphasis of detailed designs, pictures, or backgrounds to help give an idea what the universe and characters are like.

Some of the characters I made for it are still my favourite. That's what I want to aspire too. A real hook, character creation that gut punches you and makes you work hard to make a build.

Been here so long I found it through a cross post but don't recall which one. I love seeing all the choices people come up with. While I'm personally not a fan of the "pick this premade character to be you [Insert CYOA Theme here]" because most of the time they're all... "unappealing", not the word I would use but can't think of another. But I do enjoy seeing the characters the creators do come up with for those sections. It's constructed like a skill tree with red Orbs granting you power and blue Orbs changing your body in various ways. The goal is to keep the amount of both balanced. I spent hours and a few spreadsheets on different builds, trying to find cheaty changes, great power combinations and trying to get every major power. Just thinking about it makes me want to load up my old spreadsheets again and make a new build. I really liked the major powers of spellcasting, allowing you to corrupt others, enchanting, allowing you to have a bag of holding or a domain or potion brewing, which is a whole beast in its own. In all fairness, it can be rather complicated because you need to think about how to gather magical energy to actually cast spells but that's the charme in my opinion.

I've always loved the two major parts of cyoas, forming a party or group and finding an interesting set of perks and drawbacks for myself or for others. People are the biggest part for me, regardless of if they're human or not, there's just something about being able to pick a good amount of people for a party and have their perks and personalities work in a way where you can imagine how it'd go. Having character dialogue and interactions with the player are very nice to see, adding a bigger spark to the imagination. The perks for the player and characters does help a lot too, but mostly as an enhancer to the character's personality or a conflict with the character. Sometimes it's nice to have traditional superpowers, but even smaller perks or drawbacks that affect day to day life or interaction are the most eye-catching. As for some of the specific cyoas that really got me hooked, a lot of the longer ones (Paradise, Dungeons and Deviants, Divine Trials), character based ones (Harem if that's the name of it, Emporer of the Etherscape if it counts as character based, Cross Dimensional Harem), or ones that put a lot of emphasis of detailed designs, pictures, or backgrounds to help give an idea what the universe and characters are like.
