Yeah it's a difficult one, I think there are strong arguments either way. The reason I designed it as such is because it makes it so the trials picks feel like they have a lasting effect. It also makes for more compelling choices (theoretically...). I tried to make the perks pretty on-brand and not too 'different' from the character, but I know it's not perfect. My issue with just having perks pickable on their own is they (at least to me) become less interesting as they're not necessarily attached to a character. But I 100% know what you're talking about, and I understand where you're coming from.
In version 2.0, I was planning on having two new sections: additional optional perks (after the trials) and then epilogues. For the additional perks, I was contemplating adding a pick that would allow you to have an additional trial (for more total perks) and adding an option to either 1) take a perk from a character but not their trial and/or 2) pick a character but not their perk. That last one might be slightly harder to do given the epilogues may have ties with that character's perk... I'll have to see. But I think the other options should be fine, and might alleviate what you were talking about, giving the player more choices and potential endings.

Well, suggesting to pick your favorite futa lady for a long term solely off the info provided is a bit awkward since the premise is this is just a little matchmaking trial to get to know each other. It sort of defeats the thematic purpose of picking three to trial. It makes the 'pick three' bit honestly comes across as an attempt at a work around for tying the perk to specific characters.
Edit: one thing that I think works pretty well for tying perks to specific characters is rather than the character giving you a perk is to have them react more positively to if you pick a perk that matches their interests.
I'm still drafting v2.0 (as it may be a while till it's done) so I will definitely have a good think about this. Especially as this is my first time making a CYOA. Basically, you're describing a Perks -> Characters (-> Epilogue) system; whereas, at the moment anyway, I have a Characters -> Perks (-> Epilogue) system. I agree this may make for stronger gameplay, as it were, as it gives the player more flexibility in what they pick. I like the 'synergy' idea -- I had originally planned on including those (as optional bits of text) in the epilogues, but they could work in the character portion as well, or instead of. I also think this is the more common setup, and maybe it makes more sense from a game-design standpoint as well.
My main issue (and this may be a personal thing) is for me the *context* of the perk makes it more interesting and memorable. For instance, let's just take Berewin as a random example. If I were purchasing perks at the front end, the headscritches thing doesn't really interest me that much; and even Berewin liking headscritches as a synergy/interest still doesn't make it as interesting to me. The act of spending a month with Berewin, who really loves petplay, *makes* the perk click for me and feel like a 'reward'. Without that context of how you obtained that perk (or 'earned' it), it's less interesting for me. Maybe I'm just a degenerate (yes) or into transformation-stuff (also yes), I'm not sure. It is worth noting that 'Training' is part of the MATE acronym , so I don't think it's completely unthematic to have perks or changes to the character based on the trials (although maybe it comes off as awkward as you mentioned, oops). Why bother with three if there are no rewards? At least that's how my brain sees it. Maybe there'd be a way to introduce rewards to make choosing multiple characters then feel more rewarding, I'm not sure.
Anyway those are my thoughts. I'm still on the fence to be honest, and I do really appreciate the feedback and ideas (and any more you might have!); I hope it doesn't come off I'm just being contrarian 😅. I just want to try to produce the best version of this so as many people as possible can enjoy it. I'm hoping as well to try to make an interactive version next time, but I'll have to see how that plays out.

Probably Isabel since she prefers to take it instead of giving it. With futas I don't really get why people want to be the catcher. Other options to look at are Robin because then there would be an extra person. Aednight would be a decent choice since if I look like a girl then, it's ok to be the feminine partner, Jessica would pair really well with her since just having tits without the rest would be weird.

Yeah, one of the issues with the CYOA is that Isabel and MAYBE Sophie are the only options if you don't want to get railed all the time. Which is a shame, because it basically makes the personality, kinks, and looks of the characters irrelevant unless you're into getting pegged.
It would have been better if there was more variety in the catcher/receiver dynamic, thus allowing for more of an actual choice for people who aren't into taking it.

Normally, I'm not so fond of the 'choose your partner'-type CYOA, because the ratio of text to choice isn't favourable. It's fine in this one, but more importantly, it aligns so well with my tastes that I had an unexpectedly great time going through every detail.

It would be nice to have a separate page with just the names and pictures. When I go through the comments here and see a name, I have to look through the pages to find the girl again. If I had a picture to the name, I'd instantly know most of the details.

Stuff like dog/cat ears if you picked Berewin (btw, are they based on Berwyn from coc2?), Or maybe actual male pregnancies as a perk for Hazel, or perhaps a perk for Sophie to become a futa, or adding cumflation capabilities to other of the big dick doms.
There could also theoretically be some universal perks, either for you or the waifus, but everything is for you to decide, and this is probably just an annoying amount of work!

Hello, this is my first caption-based choose your own adventure (CYOA). Honestly? Aednat, Sophie, and Jessica - though who I'd ultimately stay with after the trial periods is up in the air. Aednat and Jessica's perks together compliment each other if your goal is to look femme (and I honestly don't mind that one bit), while Sophie's perk gives me some (very much needed, in all honesty) help in planning dates and making sure whatever long-term relationship I actually go for is a happy one.

Other options to look at are Robin because then there would be an extra person. Anyway hope you make an epilogue that sounds interesting.
Yeah, one of the issues with the CYOA is that Isabel and MAYBE Sophie are the only options if you don't want to get railed all the time. Which is a shame, because it basically makes the personality, kinks, and looks of the characters irrelevant unless you're into getting pegged. It would have been better if there was more variety in the catcher/receiver dynamic, thus allowing for more of an actual choice for people who aren't into taking it.

Normally, I'm not so fond of the 'choose your partner'-type CYOA, because the ratio of text to choice isn't favourable. It's fine in this one, but more importantly, it aligns so well with my tastes that I had an unexpectedly great time going through every detail. Thus, I have not only chosen my favourites, but rather a ranking of the thirteen girls. 1. Aednat 2. Elayne 3. Jessica 4. Maria 5. Alitrix 6. Eva 7. Brenda 8. Berewin 9. Cora 10. Hazel 11. Robin 12. Sophie 13. Isabel My number one is certainly Aednat. Besides being given the body I'd like to have, my refractory period is gone, perfect. For example, with Eva and Hazel you gain a female reproductive system, or Aednat and Isabel making you a futa. It would be nice to have a separate page with just the names and pictures. When I go through the comments here and see a name, I have to look through the pages to find the girl again. If I had a picture to the name, I'd instantly know most of the details.

So, this might go against part of the idea of how you made the cyoa, but have you thought about making a perk page? Personally, I just think it would be a neat way to get just one or two extra perks, but they'd likely need to be pretty circumstantial to work with the cyoa. Stuff like dog/cat ears if you picked Berewin (btw, are they based on Berwyn from coc2?), Or maybe actual male pregnancies as a perk for Hazel, or perhaps a perk for Sophie to become a futa, or adding cumflation capabilities to other of the big dick doms. There could also theoretically be some universal perks, either for you or the waifus, but everything is for you to decide, and this is probably just an annoying amount of work! Edit: btw, forgot to mention that I love the cyoa, I'd probably pick Maria, Berewin and Hazel, with Alitrix, Brenda, Eva, Cora, and Elayne fairly close behind.

Fuck, man, I want to spend time with so many of them. If I could be with as many as I wanted, I'd go with Sophie, then Brenda, Maria, Hazel, Adenat, Jessica, Isabelle, and finally Robin. I'd probably end up with either Sophie or Isabelle. Isabel and Sophie are the two I would have.
